He is not wrong about that spreading the gospel bit. I've been preaching the good word of Index and Railgun for quite sometime now. Especially about how fights always require people to use their brains and even the kid with the power that basically cancels other powers gets his ass kicked because his opponents rather neatly figure out ways around his ability or how best to exploit obvious weakness he has.

Ah, but you have to touch the object in order to interact with it. Guy tends to bend that rule quite a bit, but the times when he does, it's reasonable to say that he's abusing momentum (i.e. a hurricane is a bunch of circling wind, but if you concentrated one stream of air then you could create the same affect). So you'd still be vulnerable to dying in a whole host of other ways. Let me pontificate a few ways you may still die: Poison gas, (non-visible) radiation, suffocation (either vacuum or drowning), sniped from out of sight (you're not a Jedi), murdered in your sleep, speed of light weapons (i.e. all the lasers in the show), collateral damage from mass destruction weapons (i.e. you can save yourself from a nuclear explosion, but not from the lack of cold, breathable air that no longer exists due to that explosion), and a whole world of micro-organisms ranging from bacterial infections and viruses to exotic chemicals like enzymes and acids. I prefer the opposite, though almost equally over powered, choice of being able to infinitely absorb energy of all kinds. Can still die to most of the same stuff, but anything with energy to warm or bruise me would be immediately negated. Also, innate hovering due to absorbing gravitational acceleration!

Gigguk is UK born so probably didn't take on that much debt to get his degree, at least compared to the worst cases in the US. Especially when you consider that student loans over here are really more like a graduate tax than a regular loan, in that interest isn't really a thing, you only have to pay if it you earn above a certain amount, and it gets forgiven after like 30 years. He also got it before they tripled the tuition fees a few years ago.
1 Mol mikoto misaka (Railgun) Can be tired out for using too much electricity. And pichachu Can be badly damaged at pokemon tournaments. And i Think they are about as Powerful. Railgun shot a bomb out of the sky and Pichachu have filled entre stadiums with electricity so yea its an interesting battle of the Zappers
The Railgun and Accelerator “side story’s” are really what’s holding the Index anime together for any potential future. It’s not just the bad pacing, the Index anime at times butchers whole arcs, especially Index 3.
I’ve thought that The Index series hasn’t been bad. I honestly think it’s a little underrated. I think that accelerator was the worst season so far and Railgun has been the best series. But I don’t think that people underrate index. Idk if it’s because i haven’t read the LN or manga but I think it’s pretty good.

There is that scene, but I think he doesn't necessarily understand the whole mechanism of it. Like "why do I have to sing to get rid of what's essentially a computer virus?!" Just that he examined and studied how to do the ritual correctly as instructed.
Later in the novels Accelerator starts to understand how magic vectors work and is able to locate magic activity through feng-shui, but of course, being an Esper he cannot use magic or his blood vessels would explode. But he's no interested in magic.

I have never been so simultaneously excited about reading a series while also bored out of my mind. I don't know how it manages this but Index has literally everything I want from a series yet reading it is like a grim trudge. It's so good.
This is the only franchise where I was never intimidated by the sheer amount of content it has. I never expected the light novel to be this good. I finished the entire thing in about two and a half months, SS and parodies included.

I watched both the anime and read the manga (cause I'm a lowkey M) and then decided to go into the LNs. Same experience: it felt like hell but it was also hella rewarding seeing the thought processes behind EVERYTHING. It was glorious seeing how much detail and research was put into the work to make it grounded and believable yet entertaining af

What fascinates me about this world is how everything makes sense. No matter how you put it, everything stays in what would normally happen in the world: the actions follow a logical procedure and it is really well thought. The powers have their own limitations like Index or Accelerator and there is a huge analogy between science and magic powers. If there is something convenient in science like phones, there is something which serves the same function in the magic side, like the communication spells. Kazuma also has the story really well thought as concepts of magic return to define other spells making it feel like studying science; and the foreshadowing is in a whole other level. It might scare people to get into, specially further the anime since there are more than 70 LN, and that's why it has not been doing as good as it did 10 years before. However, it is very rewarding. Just as a reminder, it will be the series anniversary the April 10th, making Magical Index one of the few 20th year long series.
This was the second anime I ever watched. 7 years later, and it still remains one of my favorites despite how mediocre so many episodes were. I agree with you on practically every point, particularly the deep intricacies of the powers and Accelerator being the *best. character. ever.* I remember when I first watched it, it hooked me because, despite all the light ecchi stuff and the weird structure of the various arcs, it felt.. intelligent. The explanations of the magic and science worlds absolutely fascinated me, especially in the Touma/Accelerator fight, and even though the fandom was small and almost non-existent at the time, I was glad to be in it. Seeing that they ARE planning to continue the series with S3 and ACSA-which, I think I ruptured a spleen when I heard about it-I can genuinely say almost no other anime or show has held my excitement and hype this long, and I'm SINCERELY happy they didn't decide to drop it like a hot potato. TL;DR: TAMNI and ACSR were some of my first anime and I still love them to this day. And I agree with Gigguk on pretty much every point. Edit: *chokes on water* 281 likes?? Dear doodlebob!
Funnily enough, the show failed me the moment they started explaining the power of Accelerator: "He can manipulate the direction of vectors *such as heat, electricity...* " Those are energies. They're scalars not vectors goddamnit.
It’s actually much more and much less complicated than how he explained it... The way Gigguk explains it, and the direction the show takes with it, is based in physics and the natural sciences. But vectors and matrices are a mathematical concept first and foremost. Mathematically speaking, a vector is simply an ordered series of numbers. That’s it. We USE vectors to represent a lot of things, usually things with magnitude and direction, but vectors are simply a way to structure data. Which is why Accelerator’s ability makes ABSOLUTELY NO GODDAMNED SENSE. Pretty much ANYTHING can be represented as a vector, so having the ability to “manipulate vectors” is like having the ability to “change numbers.” It’s so broad-you could argue that he should be able to represent someone’s physical size as a vector and make someone tiny or gigantic, or someone’s age, or any number of things.

Vectors are how forces are described in a sense of word. Vectors consist of magnitude (scalers) and longitude /direction which is a general definition of forces (Magnitude with direction). He over-explained vectors a bit too much. I’m only 14 lol but I really like science and wanted a superhero who could have vectors as their powers.
It is so nice seeing that comments about Touma. I totally realized how much LN readers that were defending Touma were right after the reading LN. Anime adaptation ruined him. No, not even like that. THEY FUCKING RUINED HIS CHARACTER !!! Yeah, now it is more accurate.
13:35 That's only half right. Originally, he could do everything without the computer, even hacking computers by manually hacking the vectors sending signals. During one of the arcs, in which the small Misaka is introduced, he takes a bullet to the brain, which heavily damaged his computational ability, to the point that when the battery runs out, he becomes a jabbering lunatic. They manage to save him by using the "Misaka Network," just around ten thousand clones of Misaka linked telepathically, and they patched him into it, saving him. Due to that, the complexity of his manipulations have gone down, and he is limited to thirty minutes of using his powers per charge. Also, Touma's ability is easily the most complicated ability in the show. The ability to cancel all powers that make contact with his right hand, which in itself is one of the worst handicaps in the show, is a by-product of his ability existing, not the ability itself.
I'm still confused how the dragon works . Apparently it only appears when Touma's hand is cut off , right ? If anything , how powerful is it ? How much potential it has ? Does there any limits to that thing besides he needs to get his arm chopped to activate it ?
@@zapperil We still don't know exactly how it works, but It tanked a planet busting attack and ripped apart a near level 6 and has "grown" more since then. Later Touma tries to use while his hand is still attached, and it seems like he almost succeeds.
@@zapperil Well, Touma seems to three distinct powers that encompass the "Imagine Breaker." The first is its ability to erase anything abnormality. It is the weakest of his powers, but it appears to be able to erase high level angels, evident by the fact that Gabriel was afraid of it. The second power, a seven headed dragon, is so powerful that it made Fiamma of the right's Holy Right, an ability with the power of the original miracles stated in the bible(Miquel's ability to cast Lucifer out and Jesus's ability to heal the sick) look insignificant, and it can rival the power of the magic gods. These powers come directly from whatever is squatting within his hand. As Fiamma stated, these powers only exist in the right hand as long as the right hand is connected to Touma's right shoulder. The power is also sentient, reattaching itself whenever his arm is cut off, or growing a new arm and transferring to said new arm if reattachment is impossible. Apparently, Touma's right hand is a perfect vessel for said power. The final part of Touma's power is his own inherent power, which can overpower the dragon and contain it. Also, due to some discrepancies in power-scaling(Another similar but weaker power, world rejector, can defeat magic gods, but Touma's power was crushed by one magic god) has led Touma to suspect there is more then one entity within his right hand. Confused yet?
As a LN reader and huge fan of Kamachi's work I have to say it is bringing me sad to read all the comments about how Accelerator is a better character than Touma because how fucking interesting Touma really is in the novel (same for hamazura) I know guys you won't probably read the many books of index to see it, but y'all can give a try on the index manga which is better than the anime Shame on Nishikiori for making such an amazing novel series into an average anime
For anime only watcher, accel is easy become likeable char, because first he is edgy, op, villain that become antivillain, have psycho laughter but all of that deep down he is good person, in general his character more understable than touman. But yeah thats when you anime watch only, it different if you read ln.

What I like about index is that everything, no matter how small has an impact on future events. Like, there are near no lose threads or plot points. For instance, in the first arc, index in John Penn mode shoots a light beam which Kaori redirect upwards. Well some episodes later you start hearing how the weather report in the city used to be perfect (and now it isn’t), the in Railgun you discover a satellite called three diagram (which is a super computer) was destroyed. Well it was destroyed by index in the first episode which more or less unfolds a lot of the events in Railgun and ww3 (one of the reasons why academy city needs to raise funds. Or like index telling accelerator that his power resembles high amount of Telesma. Ffs this show is awesome!!!
I fully despised Accelerator, not because he was badly written, but because he was such a villain. But this latest round of Touma punching some sense into him gives me hope and I might even be able to forgive him. (I really do think he was brilliantly written.)

Before I couldn't really get into LNs because I preferred manga and anime. After this video I decided to read the LN for this and I don't regret it one bit. I should've read it sooner, I've been reading fan translations and thinking of saving up to get the official translations to support Kamachi Kazuma.
Just something about this franchise... Best boi: Accelerator Best girl: Misaka Mikoto And no, I don't ship them. It's just that they are amazing and their scenes compensate all the boring episodes, besides, we can see their character development and the use of their lvl5 abilities truly gets us amazed and hooked up for more. I was only able to go through the anime because of them. I don't regret it one bit.

I've got nothing against Othinus but I didn't feel a connection with her the way I felt with Mikoto or Accelerator, that had their stories and personality built up since the beginning (or at least not long after). Othinus appeared out of nowhere and became Touma's understander after killing him 10.000 times (won't talk about the other-girls-also-put-him-in-danger discussion, since I don't care much about romance), okay, we start liking her after but "divine blessing" and the "goddess" thing don't indicate who is the best character or things like this (at least for me). Of course, if we're talking about power it's a whole other discussion. And please understand I do like her. Edit: She may be a goddess, but it's still a girl and...Best girl is Misaka Mikoto 😆😅

My answer to it is that "ending up with the protagonist (Touma)" does not define a character to be the best. And yes, she ends up appearing in important situations and may even annoy everyone, but it's not like she knows the magnitude of what is happening and causes trouble on purpose, she's just inserted in some scenarios without an explanation for everything that is happening. From an observer's point of view her actions are quite reasonable given the circumstances. Let me share you guys the greatness of TouMAN, The one who purify god and slays demon, the right hand user, Imagine breaker, God of Pestilence, Kamijou (above god). TouMAN, the gender equality god: - If you are a villain, prepare, even Joker can be save if it's TouMAN. BE WOMAN, BE MAN, BE CHILDREN, BE THE OLD, BE PREGNANT, BE HOMO, you won't escape the punch if you're a villain that need their mind fixed with a punch in the face, TOUMAN, the chad of all chad, the gigachad before gigachad was even a thing, will come and say: "do you need to have a reason to save someone?" further escalated to "Hero? Villain? Stop kidding around! Can't you save someone if you're not standing at that spot?! In front of your eyes are people that don't wish to cry that are crying!". Nah, Fate is an incredibly easy to get into. All you need to do is have access to any site that hosts hentai manga and just search for Fate doujin. That's 90% of their appeal right there, without having to watch any shitty anime from 2006, or shitty spinoffs

It literally just - "each new anime adaptation is a different route, view it as if the other fates don't exist because it is a self contained story unto itself." End of Index Season 2. #First week of October - Document of Constantine Arc occurs. (Episodes 1 - 3 of index, Season 3) So there's no confusion; # - indicates within Index anime timeline. * - indicates within Railgun anime timeline. And now that Accelerator is getting his own anime next year, it very well may be a semi-prequel origin story just as Railgun was. We may see the Sisters Arc (Level 6 Shift Project) again, but from his perspective as the antagonist... It is one of the best story arcs in the series, but I'm personally hoping that they take his current condition and timeline in Index S3 and run from there - with references to Sisters Arc and origins in flashbacks only.
I honestly think getting into Raildex is harder. See, with Fate, you can just tell someone to read the VN. And while that's kind of a meme at this point, it IS the best way to get into the series. From there, people can watch Fate/Zero and pretty much anything else they want after. Index though, is a bit more tricky. Again, you can just tell someone to read the LN, but the LNs aren't nearly as straightforward as the Fate/Stay Night VN routes. You need to know what order to read the main series, when to read the side stories, when to read Railgun, etc. The problem with Raildex is that the author not only writes practically everything in it, but also references events from spin-offs in the main series and vice versa. You kinda have to read the companion stories to fully understand the main series. With Fate, you don't. Raildex is an interconnected world while Fate is an interconnected set of worlds. This makes it much easier to deal with, as separate continuities mostly exist within their own universes. Index, on the otherhand, loves to jump from storylines in one spin-off to another.
After reading the comments I feel really bad for Touma lmao. Welp since the anime removed like 90% of his inner thoughts It’s really hard for people to get into his character, but instead they only get a gist of him.
Even if that weren't the case, I hate the fact that he is and comes off as just another black haired MC that never backs down and blah blah blah. Railgun was the first time I got into this world and I don't think I will ever watch index due to touma alone. Railgun is an amazing series until touma shows up.
@@armsofzeus He sure was good natured but he wasn't such a generic mc in the novel. He reminds me of Araragi, in that he isn't as dense and pure as most stereotypical protagonist. He was more fleshed out is what I'm saying. He's also a lot more badass in the novel, and I learned that when he fought with the dummy Aureolus which wasn't in the anime or even the manga.
Kamachi Kazuma is one of the authors I admire the most. His speed in writing multiple novels are the best. His world building and connecting multiple events are good. It feels like he can write quality novels and pump out words nonstop. If there is one downside from him that I can think of, then that would be the slow pace of his novels.
I would argue that the pace of his story is the result of the narrative constantly changing. Though, IMO, I gotta say, Kazuma’s lack of confidence in his ability to write romance is his greatest weakness.

Hot damn, you nailed it! You actually nailed 95% of everything we have been trying to tell people! You even gotten the appeal of the Magic side when so many other people glossed over it! Only two things I would like to add, 1) Don't sell short the INDEX MANGA as well. In terms of all three media the manga for INDEX is by far what I think is the best paced of them. 2) Don't sell Touma short either, I realize these days LN protags are dime a dozen but there is something about him that stands out from the crowd too. Before My Hero Academia, Touma was my favorite embodiment of the themes of being a hero.
Could I then theoretically read the Manga instead of the LN for those first few arcs that G described in his speedrun of getting into it? (am legit interested in this but also have been assed around trying to get into others series before that I ended up hating and am looking for the shortest "try before you buy" sorta method) Cheers!
TitoSilvey in my opinion the manga is the best way to get into the series because it’s the most balanced of the pacing and because that’s also how I got into it. The manga goes all the way up to the start of the third season already (that’s how Long this series was gone) so there is no shortage of material. The manga does skip the 2nd and 4th arc but for the purpose of knowing whether this series is for you, they are not as important for now till like 12+ major arcs later
@@Chaos2Frozen I got by the anime but when I had more time (and then read too many LN volumes in too little time), but in general manga it's always the most efficient way to get a lot of story quickly. I don't know up until what arc the manga has but I guess the best would be to check in the LNs the ones you liked the most.
So basically: 1. Watch episodes 1-6 of Index S1 2. Watch episodes 1-14 of Railgun 3. Watch episodes 1-16 of Railgun S to get into it. Then, to actually finish it, 4. Finish Index S1 5. Finish Railgun 6. Finish Railgun S 7. Watch Accelerator 8. Finish Index S2 9. Watch Index S3 I'll do that right now! :3 EDIT: So Accelerator started this season and it seems to set off shortly after Railgun S in the story, so I sorted that in as 7. for the time being. (Oh yeah, I watched all of Raildex by now btw.)
Questionable on whether you want to watch index or read index, considering the LN is the most optimal experience, you aren't getting the index experience if you watch the anime.

I remember watching this video back in January of this year and while I didn't immediately start Toaru at that time, it put it on my radar and when I did decide to give it a go around April of this year I ended up falling in love with the series. I wasn't super into it at first when I started with the Index anime, but I absolutely loved the first season of Railgun and was surprised at how compelling the characters were. Since then I've watched all of the Railgun and Accelerator anime, caught up on all of the manga and just recently finished New Testament volume 14 of Index. New Testament 9 was miles ahead of the rest of Toaru and is easily one of my favorite books/pieces of storytelling media of all time, which is praise I don't give lightly. I probably would have never started the series if not for this video so I came back to leave a comment and a like and say thank you for this recommendation.

Your bias to Accelerator and the Science side is showing! But you did mention the appeal of the magic side so I'll give you a pass. I feel like the science side is naturally more appealing to people with an exposure to science, but anyone with familiarity with folklore, mythology, religion and occultism, the Magic side can be just as if not more compelling IMO. And I really, really feel like Touma gets a bad wrap, but a lot of that may just be due to how the anime fails in capturing his charm. But hey, I am so so happy that you gave this series a chance and gave it the shoutout it deserves! Major props. There's like, no Anitubers talking about this, so I'm super happy to see Toaru getting this treatment!
I agree so much! People don't find the magic side and its intricacies interesting are basically because they don't have exposure or knowledge about the myth behind it at all ! Thats why Im excited to see the GREMLIN arc adapted in the future as Norse myth are more accessible in our popular culture now especially so since many other shows and games already went through it.
Accelerator got his voice actor a prestigious award. Accelerator is also exactly how you write a great redemptive asshole character, *not* freakin' Bakugo from Hero Academia. They also have same VA.
Imagine breaker is nor specially great but it isnt bad either (If you want amazing powers just go to our boy Gunha), but what is under Imagine breaker is so neat and so hype that if it wasnt because both Misaka and Accel also got buffed up to hyper hype levels they would look boring in comparison (Even when Accel has been buffed 3 times and nerfed once, and even the buff Misaka got being the only one Misaka has ever got)

Accelerator doesn't need to calculate everything that comes his way, since his reflective barrier is mostly passive, as explained by Kakine. Accelerator doesn't calculate everything in real time. He sets his vector reflection to avoid most of the harmful things that come his way, and allows everything else to come through. It's a whitelist, so he only needs to set the vectors that he wants to get through, meaning less calculations. So it doesn't really matter how fast you are, it's not going to get past as long as the passive barrier identifies the vectors coming at his way as harmful. (Or something like that, haven't read Index for a while now) It doesn't cover everything of course. If you could identify the specific vectors that Accelerator uses to defend himself, you could use that against him.
Let me tell you the way i see it: 'To aru'(and it's spinoffs) is the franchise that TRULY deserved the cult following that SAO has now or had a few years back. This franchise actually does give a whole lotta fck about continuity and sense in a story, and I appreciate it for that.
While I agree that SAO is garbage I don't think it's comparable. SAO stole the thunder of other MMO anime/manga/novels because it appealed to the lowest common denominator. If SAO was smarter it would never be this big.
Touma's upcoming moment in this current season of Railgun will lowkey be an advertisement for Index: New Testament. Also Railgun onlies will get to see a portion of Touma's true power.
@@SoulburgersSoll Yup, it's finally airing tomorrow. Have you seen the screenshot of Touma (teaser image from Episode 14) that the official twitter posted, he looks like a badass. I'll be honest, all the delays have just made me anticipate THAT moment more and have caused my hype to sky-rocket.
The thing that convinced me this was not ordinary fantasy harem garbage is when everyone had been taking "Index's brain will explode if she creates too many memories" at face value, then Kamijo is like "wait, that doesn't seem right." So he calls an actual neuroscientist who is all "lol no, that's ridiculous." Almost every other show expects you to accept their absurd premises, and Index is going to have theirs, too, but they're telling you here that it's going to do the work.
Also the harem aspect actually has an in-world explanation and is recognized as being absurd at multiple times in the franchise. The explanation is that the Imagine Breaker broke Touma's red string of fate, and it wards off blessings from God, so he has bad luck with girls, which is exactly what we see, as he gets girls attached to him easily, but can never hold a real relationship - which is what happens to other anime protagonists as well, but they don't have the Imagine breaker.

He is like the sun in Icarus, the closer you are the more you get burned, let's count the girls that made attempts to start a relationship, Ayu (suicide), Misaki (Touma's brain damage ruined all chances), Index (brain damage again), Itsuwa (got shoved back to London), Othinus (turned into a fairy), Misaka (went kind of crazy after AAA). Its hilarious, its not even about who have the best chemistry anymore, but whose ship Kamachi haven't sunk into the atlantic ocean, we may actually get an actual bachelor ending (if Kamachi doesn't kill Touma off at the end like he did with his other MCs).

@@darktigersharkmax4432 She went kind of crazy and had side effects for using magic (like Tsuchimikado) when using a scientific weapon created by Aleister to counter magic gods, which used his magical power to power the device. But in the last arc Mikoto is fine using it, she has Misaki as a backup to lessen the side effects.
I actually like Toma's Imagine Breaker, both in what it does and as a concept. In the world of Index, it's a power that can't be explained by magic or science, it's a power that others might undoubtably have, mysterious super powers that can't be explained by magic, which has it's place in lore and mythology. It also can't be explained by science, the superpowers of human physics and science. It's a power of imagination, it honestly reminds me of Bungo Stray Dogs' skills, the supernatural abilities that people can be born with and are unexplainable. It's a power that an ordinary person could have without knowing it. The other reason I like Toma's ability is because of reasons I like the abilities of the likes of Osamu Dazai, Shota Aizawa, and even Asta from Black Clover to an extent. Their abilities that make supernatural powers stop, it forces people to fight as an ordinary person, with kicks and punches and being really strong as a normal human. Make it so they have a fight scene that's all about hand to hand combat or have the opponent realize that they are nothing with their powers. Or another way to fight this nullification of abilities is to work around it's limitations to use their superpowers. Dazai's 'No Longer Human' skill only works on other skills and with physical contact, so you could just shoot him or be a more skilled fighter that him, though I feel Aizawa was the one who truly embodies and has had happen to him in the 'work around the limitations of his ability in this part. Aizawa's quirk manifests in his line of sight, so how did the villains work around his limitation? By waiting for him to blink, that's when he's vulnerable and you can use their quirks against him, or by using a superiorly physical being, the Nomu. The blinking and eyesight limitation was what the Momo and Todoroki used during the end of the year exam, when he has his eyes closed, they can use their quirks, and Aizawa's quirk also had a secondary and much less important limitation that was exploited in the form of "the effects after the use of a quirk are not negated", which is how Momo was able to use her creations even though Aizawa was using his quirk on them. All to say, I like abilities that negate abilities, I also like the characters that have these abilities. Edit:I just realized this a bit after commenting, but it also gives a chance to interact with people with powers that are uncontrollable or would just kill a person with a single touch, or both.
Imagine breaker is a reference point for reality. It eliminates the distortions in reality caused by the abnormal. It's also a lock to keep something within touma in check.
Touma is an amazing character and I love his ability Imagine Breaker. It's always great to see Touma using Imagine Breaker, espescially hearing the sound effect of Imagine Breaker gets me really hyped!
I really feel bad for Touma in the anime. You barely see what his character actually is in the anime. In the LN, I'm confident to say that Touma's character is on par with Accelerator, if not better.
Being as I have only started, after being put off by Index a year ago, but having binged all seasons of Railgun in a way I haven't binged in years, I am about to start Index, then Accelerator. You are about the seventh comment that claims the LN is really good, better than anime for Index. Not having yet seen Index, this is not a lot to go by. But, as someone who is planning to buy light novels like they are going out of fashion, you convinced me to spend a few paychecks on this little thing called Index. I thank you now, and I hope to return with another thanks in a year when I have binged all content of this new hobby of mine.

Also this made me remember of the arc where people traded bodies without realizing and Touma turns on the TV and finds out Kuroko (the aforementioned teleporting lesbian) is now Barack Obama (She literally goes "Yes! We! Can!"). That scene KILLED me.

Love the franchise. It was such a big thing 7 years ago. Nowadays most modern anime fans don't even know it anymore. However the light novels are much better. If you don't mind reading - just go and read them!
@@durakeno5575 from my own experience it's just that reading on phone sucks. I had the same issue with another light novel series I loved. I had them all on my phone and never got around to read it. Once they came out physically I had much less problems to get myself to read them. That's at least how it was for me. ^^

Yeah, Index got a bad adaptation over all, especially Touman, he was screwed to be a too generic shonen character in anime. Railgun in other hand has been treated well. New Testament Index should be good though, unless anime adaptation ruin it again. Personally waiting for "big bad" Corry to screw up "upside down man's" plans.
Railgun felt worse than index, Imo. It was so painfully obvious that the person who wrote railgun was written by a guy, to the point where most of the slice of life scenes were just... Ugh. Index, imo, is way better, focusing on what the guy knows.

I still like Touma in the anime because his VA is really good and he gets a lot of funny lines, but he's a lot weaker than his original light novel version. One of his strongest traits is decisive thinking, and it elaborates on his thought processes to stop a bad guy or help a friend, whereas in the anime he'll just run at them and do a Terry Bogard Power Dunk
Abe Atsushi a goat for putting the work with Touma even if his characters gets butchered so bad in the anime (still my fav of all time). Really hope they do him justice in NT when (or if) it comes out :(

watching Railgun T right now. I like this franchise I know its kinda boring at first but it will became good later. And for the others who said that index anime is bad well yeah but if you read its Light Novel you will know that its have more to it and its really good. For anime I will said that Railgun>Index=Accelerator For Light Novel and Manga Index>Railgun>Accelerator And Misaka is my fav character
@@zapperil Well I like misaka more in Index:New Testament because they actually involve misaka to the plot and to the magic side unlike in Index:Old Testament her major role only is the Sisters Arc. I don't know if all the season is based around this since I watched only 3 episodes but I can't get myself to continue since it was so frustrating for me to watch.

Also, his excuses consist of: The hospital time for his various injuries, Stopping the CC contract from turning all roman catholics against Academy City, Stopping WWIII, stopping a terrorist organization from turning Hawaii into a super volcano and causing another war, stopping a war in between Academy City and the Kiharas vs the anti-Academy city sciences and said terrorist organization, stopping a magic god from obliterating the war(he kinda failed), and saving said magic god from a curse.

Just to clarify, the computer thingy that helps Accelerator make calculations was not something he needed at first, it's thanks to him getting brain damage in A Certain Circumstance of Plot (get it? eh). He was so overpowered the author had to nerf him.
To be fair, Kamachi gave him more buffs and power-ups than any protag in any of his series, let's count, black wings, white wings, Q-demon, that's 3 already. Touma have IB which kind of sucks, IT which is a sociopath (so Touma never could use it without killing someone with it). Hamazura who have "The luck of Plot and Macguffin". So, I think Accel got a pretty good deal.
Gigguk please read the light novel, I'm glad you have given the series a second chance but the anime is simply outclassed by the novel. It's why it's my favourite series for a reason.
Yeah I agree the most unique aspect of him is he check everyone reason to fight first (like how he talk to accel first checking if he is forced too or not) and of course he is quite a mysteries with his power and what he do in the past is unknown in the anime
He is the normal anime protagonist who struggles to save every girl that he comes across. What world elements he struggles against isn't something that makes him more or less interesting.

He is not wrong about that spreading the gospel bit. I've been preaching the good word of Index and Railgun for quite sometime now. Especially about how fights always require people to use their brains and even the kid with the power that basically cancels other powers gets his ass kicked because his opponents rather neatly figure out ways around his ability or how best to exploit obvious weakness he has.

Ah, but you have to touch the object in order to interact with it. Guy tends to bend that rule quite a bit, but the times when he does, it's reasonable to say that he's abusing momentum (i.e. a hurricane is a bunch of circling wind, but if you concentrated one stream of air then you could create the same affect). So you'd still be vulnerable to dying in a whole host of other ways.
Let me pontificate a few ways you may still die:
Poison gas, (non-visible) radiation, suffocation (either vacuum or drowning), sniped from out of sight (you're not a Jedi), murdered in your sleep, speed of light weapons (i.e. all the lasers in the show), collateral damage from mass destruction weapons (i.e. you can save yourself from a nuclear explosion, but not from the lack of cold, breathable air that no longer exists due to that explosion), and a whole world of micro-organisms ranging from bacterial infections and viruses to exotic chemicals like enzymes and acids.
I prefer the opposite, though almost equally over powered, choice of being able to infinitely absorb energy of all kinds. Can still die to most of the same stuff, but anything with energy to warm or bruise me would be immediately negated. Also, innate hovering due to absorbing gravitational acceleration!

Gigguk is UK born so probably didn't take on that much debt to get his degree, at least compared to the worst cases in the US. Especially when you consider that student loans over here are really more like a graduate tax than a regular loan, in that interest isn't really a thing, you only have to pay if it you earn above a certain amount, and it gets forgiven after like 30 years. He also got it before they tripled the tuition fees a few years ago.

The Railgun and Accelerator “side story’s” are really what’s holding the Index anime together for any potential future. It’s not just the bad pacing, the Index anime at times butchers whole arcs, especially Index 3.

I’ve thought that The Index series hasn’t been bad. I honestly think it’s a little underrated. I think that accelerator was the worst season so far and Railgun has been the best series. I have never been so simultaneously excited about reading a series while also bored out of my mind. I don't know how it manages this but Index has literally everything I want from a series yet reading it is like a grim trudge. It's so good.
This is the only franchise where I was never intimidated by the sheer amount of content it has. I never expected the light novel to be this good. I finished the entire thing in about two and a half months, SS and parodies included.

Same experience: it felt like hell but it was also hella rewarding seeing the thought processes behind EVERYTHING. It was glorious seeing how much detail and research was put into the work to make it grounded and believable yet entertaining af

What fascinates me about this world is how everything makes sense.
No matter how you put it, everything stays in what would normally happen in the world: the actions follow a logical procedure and it is really well thought. The powers have their own limitations like Index or Accelerator and there is a huge analogy between science and magic powers.
If there is something convenient in science like phones, there is something which serves the same function in the magic side, like the communication spells.
Kazuma also has the story really well thought as concepts of magic return to define other spells making it feel like studying science; and the foreshadowing is in a whole other level.
It might scare people to get into, specially further the anime since there are more than 70 LN, and that's why it has not been doing as good as it did 10 years before. However, it is very rewarding.
Just as a reminder, it will be the series anniversary the April 10th, making Magical Index one of the few 20th year long series.
This was the second anime I ever watched.
7 years later, and it still remains one of my favorites despite how mediocre so many episodes were. I agree with you on practically every point, particularly the deep intricacies of the powers and Accelerator being the *best. character. ever.* I remember when I first watched it, it hooked me because, despite all the light ecchi stuff and the weird structure of the various arcs, it felt.. intelligent. The explanations of the magic and science worlds absolutely fascinated me, especially in the Touma/Accelerator fight, and even though the fandom was small and almost non-existent at the time, I was glad to be in it.
Seeing that they ARE planning to continue the series with S3 and ACSA-which, I think I ruptured a spleen when I heard about it-I can genuinely say almost no other anime or show has held my excitement and hype this long, and I'm SINCERELY happy they didn't decide to drop it like a hot potato.
TL;DR: TAMNI and ACSR were some of my first anime and I still love them to this day. And I agree with Gigguk on pretty much every point.

It’s actually much more and much less complicated than how he explained it...
The way Gigguk explains it, and the direction the show takes with it, is based in physics and the natural sciences. But vectors and matrices are a mathematical concept first and foremost. Mathematically speaking, a vector is simply an ordered series of numbers. That’s it. We USE vectors to represent a lot of things, usually things with magnitude and direction, but vectors are simply a way to structure data.
Which is why Accelerator’s ability makes ABSOLUTELY NO GODDAMNED SENSE. Pretty much ANYTHING can be represented as a vector, so having the ability to “manipulate vectors” is like having the ability to “change numbers.” It’s so broad-you could argue that he should be able to represent someone’s physical size as a vector and make someone tiny or gigantic, or someone’s age, or any number of things.

They manage to save him by using the "Misaka Network," just around ten thousand clones of Misaka linked telepathically, and they patched him into it, saving him. Due to that, the complexity of his manipulations have gone down, and he is limited to thirty minutes of using his powers per charge.
Also, Touma's ability is easily the most complicated ability in the show. The ability to cancel all powers that make contact with his right hand, which in itself is one of the worst handicaps in the show, is a by-product of his ability existing, not the ability itself.

@@zapperil We still don't know exactly how it works, but It tanked a planet busting attack and ripped apart a near level 6 and has "grown" more since then. Later Touma tries to use while his hand is still attached, and it seems like he almost succeeds.
@@zapperil Well, Touma seems to three distinct powers that encompass the "Imagine Breaker." The first is its ability to erase anything abnormality. It is the weakest of his powers, but it appears to be able to erase high level angels, evident by the fact that Gabriel was afraid of it. The second power, a seven headed dragon, is so powerful that it made Fiamma of the right's Holy Right, an ability with the power of the original miracles stated in the bible(Miquel's ability to cast Lucifer out and Jesus's ability to heal the sick) look insignificant, and it can rival the power of the magic gods. These powers come directly from whatever is squatting within his hand. As Fiamma stated, these powers only exist in the right hand as long as the right hand is connected to Touma's right shoulder. The power is also sentient, reattaching itself whenever his arm is cut off, or growing a new arm and transferring to said new arm if reattachment is impossible. Apparently, Touma's right hand is a perfect vessel for said power. The final part of Touma's power is his own inherent power, which can overpower the dragon and contain it. Also, due to some discrepancies in power-scaling(Another similar but weaker power, world rejector, can defeat magic gods, but Touma's power was crushed by one magic god) has led Touma to suspect there is more then one entity within his right hand.

What I like about index is that everything, no matter how small has an impact on future events. Like, there are near no lose threads or plot points. For instance, in the first arc, index in John Penn mode shoots a light beam which Kaori redirect upwards. Well some episodes later you start hearing how the weather report in the city used to be perfect (and now it isn’t), the in Railgun you discover a satellite called three diagram (which is a super computer) was destroyed. Well it was destroyed by index in the first episode which more or less unfolds a lot of the events in Railgun and ww3 (one of the reasons why academy city needs to raise funds. Or like index telling accelerator that his power resembles high amount of Telesma. Ffs this show is awesome!!!

I've got nothing against Othinus but I didn't feel a connection with her the way I felt with Mikoto or Accelerator, that had their stories and personality built up since the beginning (or at least not long after). Othinus appeared out of nowhere and became Touma's understander after killing him 10.000 times (won't talk about the other-girls-also-put-him-in-danger discussion, since I don't care much about romance), okay, we start liking her after but "divine blessing" and the "goddess" thing don't indicate who is the best character or things like this (at least for me). Of course, if we're talking about power it's a whole other discussion. And please understand I do like her.

My answer to it is that "ending up with the protagonist (Touma)" does not define a character to be the best. And yes, she ends up appearing in important situations and may even annoy everyone, but it's not like she knows the magnitude of what is happening and causes trouble on purpose, she's just inserted in some scenarios without an explanation for everything that is happening. From an observer's point of view her actions are quite reasonable given the circumstances. I can't say much about NT since I've practically just started reading the LN, but from what I've seen so far, I find most of the things she did somehow excusable

Touma is him, he's the MAN, the TouMAN. Let me share you guys the greatness of TouMAN, The one who purify god and slays demon, the right hand user, Imagine breaker, God of Pestilence, Kamijou (above god).
TouMAN, the gender equality god:
- If you are a villain, prepare, even Joker can be save if it's TouMAN. BE WOMAN, BE MAN, BE CHILDREN, BE THE OLD, BE PREGNANT, BE HOMO, you won't escape the punch if you're a villain that need their mind fixed with a punch in the face, TOUMAN, the chad of all chad, the gigachad before gigachad was even a thing, will come and say: "do you need to have a reason to save someone?" further escalated to "Hero? Villain? Stop kidding around! Can't you save someone if you're not standing at that spot?! In front of your eyes are people that don't wish to cry that are crying!". - "I'm just a normal high school boy you could find anywhere". A normal highschool boy who worries about a family member of him everyday, though struggling with life at times, complaining about his unfortunate, he never meant to complain his very life even once.
A gigachad with a mental of a gigachad:
- I'll take revenge? I can't do this no more? It's suffering? Reject all of that, the normal highschool boy himself will survives through an endless hell of death loop mix toturments and will safe the one who did that to him. A strong will to the point that he could endure all of that and end up broken, but saved with just a person that care about him, he just need to express his emotions and all that hell was left behind like it's nothing.
A gigachad with eggs priority.
-he need food, help this man, though he survived without a need of a help, what a chad.
A chad where in conversations, you don't talk about how ridiculously strong of a character this chad is in fiction, but how chad TouMAN is.
A chad that is original:
- As a chad, he's original, his power is originally uninteresting turned originally interesting and unique. His character is too well built to be replicated by anyone. His power, his characteristic and the way he's developed is the original, the unique, he's one true best of the best of all protagonists to ever exists, only rivalled by Accelerator the god himself and the other one that spoiler spoiler.
Over all, Kamijou TouMAN is the chad, the humble, the Gender Equality, the Self-called normal chad.

Nah, Fate is an incredibly easy to get into. All you need to do is have access to any site that hosts hentai manga and just search for Fate doujin. That's 90% of their appeal right there, without having to watch any shitty anime from 2006, or shitty spinoffs

LMAO Fate Seroes is rather simplistic. It literally just - "each new anime adaptation is a different route, view it as if the other fates don't exist because it is a self contained story unto itself."
Toaru Series - everything is connected and intertwined, and ALL current anime events take place within less than 6 months timeframe... e.g. - Railgun and Railgun S starts as a prequel to Index S1, then runs parallel to index S1 and finishes halfway through Index S2.
For reference, with no spoilers;
*May/June - Start of Railgun anime.
*June 17 - Mikoto meets Kamijou Touma for the first time.
#*July 20 - Touma meets Index. Start of Index anime.
#*August 30 - Silent party arc (STUDY). Railgun anime season 2 ends here.
#September 30 - The Academy City Invasion Arc occurs. End of Index Season 2.
#First week of October - Document of Constantine Arc occurs. (Episodes 1 - 3 of index, Season 3)
So there's no confusion;
# - indicates within Index anime timeline.
* - indicates within Railgun anime timeline.
And now that Accelerator is getting his own anime next year, it very well may be a semi-prequel origin story just as Railgun was. We may see the Sisters Arc (Level 6 Shift Project) again, but from his perspective as the antagonist... It is one of the best story arcs in the series, but I'm personally hoping that they take his current condition and timeline in Index S3 and run from there - with references to Sisters Arc and origins in flashbacks only.
I honestly think getting into Raildex is harder. See, with Fate, you can just tell someone to read the VN. And while that's kind of a meme at this point, it IS the best way to get into the series. From there, people can watch Fate/Zero and pretty much anything else they want after.
Index though, is a bit more tricky. Again, you can just tell someone to read the LN, but the LNs aren't nearly as straightforward as the Fate/Stay Night VN routes. You need to know what order to read the main series, when to read the side stories, when to read Railgun, etc. The problem with Raildex is that the author not only writes practically everything in it, but also references events from spin-offs in the main series and vice versa. You kinda have to read the companion stories to fully understand the main series. With Fate, you don't.
Raildex is an interconnected world while Fate is an interconnected set of worlds. This makes it much easier to deal with, as separate continuities mostly exist within their own universes. Index, on the otherhand, loves to jump from storylines in one spin-off to another.

Even if that weren't the case, I hate the fact that he is and comes off as just another black haired MC that never backs down and blah blah blah. Railgun was the first time I got into this world and I don't think I will ever watch index due to touma alone. Railgun is an amazing series until touma shows up.
@@armsofzeus He sure was good natured but he wasn't such a generic mc in the novel. He reminds me of Araragi, in that he isn't as dense and pure as most stereotypical protagonist. He was more fleshed out is what I'm saying. He's also a lot more badass in the novel, and I learned that when he fought with the dummy Aureolus which wasn't in the anime or even the manga.
Kamachi Kazuma is one of the authors I admire the most. His speed in writing multiple novels are the best. His world building and connecting multiple events are good. It feels like he can write quality novels and pump out words nonstop.
If there is one downside from him that I can think of, then that would be the slow pace of his novels.
I would argue that the pace of his story is the result of the narrative constantly changing. Though, IMO, I gotta say, Kazuma’s lack of confidence in his ability to write romance is his greatest weakness.

Hot damn, you nailed it! You actually nailed 95% of everything we have been trying to tell people! You even gotten the appeal of the Magic side when so many other people glossed over it!
Only two things I would like to add, 1) Don't sell short the INDEX MANGA as well. In terms of all three media the manga for INDEX is by far what I think is the best paced of them. 2) Don't sell Touma short either, I realize these days LN protags are dime a dozen but there is something about him that stands out from the crowd too. Before My Hero Academia, Touma was my favorite embodiment of the themes of being a hero.

TitoSilvey in my opinion the manga is the best way to get into the series because it’s the most balanced of the pacing and because that’s also how I got into it. The manga goes all the way up to the start of the third season already (that’s how Long this series was gone) so there is no shortage of material.
The manga does skip the 2nd and 4th arc but for the purpose of knowing whether this series is for you, they are not as important for now till like 12+ major arcs later
@@Chaos2Frozen I got by the anime but when I had more time (and then read too many LN volumes in too little time), but in general manga it's always the most efficient way to get a lot of story quickly. I don't know up until what arc the manga has but I guess the best would be to check in the LNs the ones you liked the most.
So basically:
1. Watch episodes 1-6 of Index S1
2. Watch episodes 1-14 of Railgun
3. Watch episodes 1-16 of Railgun S
to get into it. Then, to actually finish it,
4. Finish Index S1
5. Finish Railgun
6. Finish Railgun S
7. Watch Accelerator
8. Finish Index S2
9. Watch Index S3

I remember watching this video back in January of this year and while I didn't immediately start Toaru at that time, it put it on my radar and when I did decide to give it a go around April of this year I ended up falling in love with the series. I wasn't super into it at first when I started with the Index anime, but I absolutely loved the first season of Railgun and was surprised at how compelling the characters were. Since then I've watched all of the Railgun and Accelerator anime, caught up on all of the manga and just recently finished New Testament volume 14 of Index. New Testament 9 was miles ahead of the rest of Toaru and is easily one of my favorite books/pieces of storytelling media of all time, which is praise I don't give lightly. I probably would have never started the series if not for this video so I came back to leave a comment and a like and say thank you for this recommendation.

Your bias to Accelerator and the Science side is showing! But you did mention the appeal of the magic side so I'll give you a pass. I feel like the science side is naturally more appealing to people with an exposure to science, but anyone with familiarity with folklore, mythology, religion and occultism, the Magic side can be just as if not more compelling IMO. And I really, really feel like Touma gets a bad wrap, but a lot of that may just be due to how the anime fails in capturing his charm.
But hey, I am so so happy that you gave this series a chance and gave it the shoutout it deserves! Major props. There's like, no Anitubers talking about this, so I'm super happy to see Toaru getting this treatment!

Accelerator doesn't need to calculate everything that comes his way, since his reflective barrier is mostly passive, as explained by Kakine. Accelerator doesn't calculate everything in real time. He sets his vector reflection to avoid most of the harmful things that come his way, and allows everything else to come through. It's a whitelist, so he only needs to set the vectors that he wants to get through, meaning less calculations.
So it doesn't really matter how fast you are, it's not going to get past as long as the passive barrier identifies the vectors coming at his way as harmful. (Or something like that, haven't read Index for a while now)
It doesn't cover everything of course. If you could identify the specific vectors that Accelerator uses to defend himself, you could use that against him.

I was hoping that Gigguk do some justice for Touman....
The thing that convinced me this was not ordinary fantasy harem garbage is when everyone had been taking "Index's brain will explode if she creates too many memories" at face value, then Kamijo is like "wait, that doesn't seem right." So he calls an actual neuroscientist who is all "lol no, that's ridiculous." Almost every other show expects you to accept their absurd premises, and Index is going to have theirs, too, but they're telling you here that it's going to do the work.
Also the harem aspect actually has an in-world explanation and is recognized as being absurd at multiple times in the franchise. The explanation is that the Imagine Breaker broke Touma's red string of fate, and it wards off blessings from God, so he has bad luck with girls, which is exactly what we see, as he gets girls attached to him easily, but can never hold a real relationship - which is what happens to other anime protagonists as well, but they don't have the Imagine breaker.
@@usmansiddiqui1384Hilariously, girls that do like Touma are really aggressive in their approach, they just all happen to fail spectacularly. He is like the sun in Icarus, the closer you are the more you get burned, let's count the girls that made attempts to start a relationship, Ayu (suicide), Misaki (Touma's brain damage ruined all chances), Index (brain damage again), Itsuwa (got shoved back to London), Othinus (turned into a fairy), Misaka (went kind of crazy after AAA). Its hilarious, its not even about who have the best chemistry anymore, but whose ship Kamachi haven't sunk into the atlantic ocean, we may actually get an actual bachelor ending (if Kamachi doesn't kill Touma off at the end like he did with his other MCs).

But in the last arc Mikoto is fine using it, she has Misaki as a backup to lessen the side effects.

I actually like Toma's Imagine Breaker, both in what it does and as a concept. In the world of Index, it's a power that can't be explained by magic or science, it's a power that others might undoubtably have, mysterious super powers that can't be explained by magic, which has it's place in lore and mythology. It also can't be explained by science, the superpowers of human physics and science. It's a power of imagination, it honestly reminds me of Bungo Stray Dogs' skills, the supernatural abilities that people can be born with and are unexplainable. It's a power that an ordinary person could have without knowing it.
The other reason I like Toma's ability is because of reasons I like the abilities of the likes of Osamu Dazai, Shota Aizawa, and even Asta from Black Clover to an extent. Their abilities that make supernatural powers stop, it forces people to fight as an ordinary person, with kicks and punches and being really strong as a normal human. Make it so they have a fight scene that's all about hand to hand combat or have the opponent realize that they are nothing with their powers. Or another way to fight this nullification of abilities is to work around it's limitations to use their superpowers. Dazai's 'No Longer Human' skill only works on other skills and with physical contact, so you could just shoot him or be a more skilled fighter that him, though I feel Aizawa was the one who truly embodies and has had happen to him in the 'work around the limitations of his ability in this part.
Aizawa's quirk manifests in his line of sight, so how did the villains work around his limitation? By waiting for him to blink, that's when he's vulnerable and you can use their quirks against him, or by using a superiorly physical being, the Nomu. The blinking and eyesight limitation was what the Momo and Todoroki used during the end of the year exam, when he has his eyes closed, they can use their quirks, and Aizawa's quirk also had a secondary and much less important limitation that was exploited in the form of "the effects after the use of a quirk are not negated", which is how Momo was able to use her creations even though Aizawa was using his quirk on them.
All to say, I like abilities that negate abilities, I also like the characters that have these abilities.
Edit:I just realized this a bit after commenting, but it also gives a chance to interact with people with powers that are uncontrollable or would just kill a person with a single touch, or both.

Imagine breaker is a reference point for reality. It eliminates the distortions in reality caused by the abnormal. It's also a lock to keep something within touma in check.
Touma is an amazing character and I love his ability Imagine Breaker. It's always great to see Touma using Imagine Breaker, espescially hearing the sound effect of Imagine Breaker gets me really hyped!
I really feel bad for Touma in the anime. You barely see what his character actually is in the anime. In the LN, I'm confident to say that Touma's character is on par with Accelerator, if not better.

Being as I have only started, after being put off by Index a year ago, but having binged all seasons of Railgun in a way I haven't binged in years, I am about to start Index, then Accelerator.
You are about the seventh comment that claims the LN is really good, better than anime for Index. Not having yet seen Index, this is not a lot to go by. But, as someone who is planning to buy light novels like they are going out of fashion, you convinced me to spend a few paychecks on this little thing called Index.

Yeah, Index got a bad adaptation over all, especially Touman, he was screwed to be a too generic shonen character in anime. Railgun in other hand has been treated well.
New Testament Index should be good though, unless anime adaptation ruin it again. Personally waiting for "big bad" Corry to screw up "upside down man's" plans.
Railgun felt worse than index, Imo. It was so painfully obvious that the person who wrote railgun was written by a guy, to the point where most of the slice of life scenes were just... Ugh. Index, imo, is way better, focusing on what the guy knows.
@@raawesome3851 i think the problem with a lot of the slice of slice scenes is that they are filler so they feel kinda off from the rest.

I still like Touma in the anime because his VA is really good and he gets a lot of funny lines, but he's a lot weaker than his original light novel version. One of his strongest traits is decisive thinking, and it elaborates on his thought processes to stop a bad guy or help a friend, whereas in the anime he'll just run at them and do a Terry Bogard Power Dunk
I'm on ep 6, right now, so far, your light novel description of Touma also can be applied to Anime Touma, I don't know whether it changes later on.

Abe Atsushi a goat for putting the work with Touma even if his characters gets butchered so bad in the anime (still my fav of all time). Really hope they do him justice in NT when (or if) it comes out :(

watching Railgun T right now. I like this franchise I know its kinda boring at first but it will became good later. And for the others who said that index anime is bad well yeah but if you read its Light Novel you will know that its have more to it and its really good.
For anime I will said that Railgun>Index=Accelerator
For Light Novel and Manga

@@zapperil Well I like misaka more in Index:New Testament because they actually involve misaka to the plot and to the magic side unlike in Index:Old Testament her major role only is the Sisters Arc. I am now waiting for the new chapter of LN "Index:Genesis" and hoping that they give again Misaka more involvement to this Third Chapter.

@@zapperil Because I HATE the school sport championship context so much. One of the most irritating context I can think of, especially presented as it is in Railgun T. I don't know if all the season is based around this since I watched only 3 episodes but I can't get myself to continue since it was so frustrating for me to watch.

Just to clarify, the computer thingy that helps Accelerator make calculations was not something he needed at first, it's thanks to him getting brain damage in A Certain Circumstance of Plot (get it? eh). He was so overpowered the author had to nerf him.
But only after he became a good guy. Well, kind of.
well. he deserved it.
To be fair, Kamachi gave him more buffs and power-ups than any protag in any of his series, let's count, black wings, white wings, Q-demon, that's 3 already. Touma have IB which kind of sucks, IT which is a sociopath (so Touma never could use it without killing someone with it). Hamazura who have "The luck of Plot and Macguffin".
So, I think Accel got a pretty good deal.

Gigguk please read the light novel, I'm glad you have given the series a second chance but the anime is simply outclassed by the novel. It's why it's my favourite series for a reason.

Touma isn't boring. Touma is everyman who struggles against the excesses of science and religion (magic).
Yeah I agree the most unique aspect of him is he check everyone reason to fight first (like how he talk to accel first checking if he is forced too or not) and of course he is quite a mysteries with his power and what he do in the past is unknown in the anime
Just wait for Index New Testament And you Will see what happens to Touma XD
He is the normal anime protagonist who struggles to save every girl that he comes across. What world elements he struggles against isn't something that makes him more or less interesting.
