I know all over the country parts of houses are saved and "repurposed". Doors, hardware, trim, even hardwood floors. It just seems a waste to demolish those houses and haul it off to the landfill. @Aimee Webber During the 7 year period? I'm not sure, It may be something they work out amongst themselves since all the small homes are payed off on donations and there is no mortgage. After the 7 years, they have no mortgage/rent and they just pay utilities.
You are so right. I'm supposed however that the left isn't screaming racist because she doesn't just give them the home. Instead they can have pride in what they accomplish then it's all up to them what a novel idea.
Aimee Webber I don’t know the answer to your question and what I say next is only speculation on how I would set it up. This is a pilot program and I imagine there was a screening process to make as sure as possible that those first 25 residents are the most likely candidates to fulfill the 7 year plan while still being “in need”. As the program grows and becomes more self sustaining it will be strong enough to take a few risks. The answers on whether or not this program is a success might not be known for a couple of 7 year “generations”
she has no personal agenda, just a burning desire in her heart to help others. it's incredible. i love that the money that residents pay for rent actually goes towards their futures. i can see how this is actually rehabilitative, and helps people to grow. it's not just some government run shelter that treats people like garbage. love to see it.

There's a few people that are trying to make small home's for the homeless in California but the RED TAPE the Goverment want the money and they don't want them to live in houses just stacked apartments building as huge as a block to house many like a small city in a building and every one can do there shopping on the bottom floor or have everything delivered to the building. This is just about THE most sensible idea I have ever seen on youtube ...just goes to show that if you cut out the corporate greed and the avaricious banks ..ordinary people on very low income can have a home and a decent one at that ! well done Detroits Rev Faith Fowler for such a basic but innovative idea ...respect from London UK .
A tiny house won't solve low employment, high crime, drug abuse, gang activity or the crumbling education system. It would take people getting an education, performing well in school (so the schools will be better funded, underperforming schools get budget cuts so the better performing schools have more funds. Why waste resources on dummies you know?) People bringing industry back in the area (at less than $15 minimum wage otherwise the companies WON'T come back). The locals leaving crime behind (that street life doesn't encourage businesses to enter a city. All the gangs of Detroit have done is make big business run away) and finally they'll have to get their people clean so they can pass a drug test to have a job then not have to resort to crime to get a meal which will lower the crime rate and encourage businesses to return. A tiny house can't do any of those things.

Talk to your parents or grandparents and they will tell you that back in their day, you could graduate from high school and make minimum wage and buy a house off of that and still have money to spare. Sadly, maybe gentrification is the only thing that will help. It's creeping up Gratiot as we speak. Downtown and midtown look great but the neighborhoods need help desperately.
My father was born and raised in Hamtramck. When I see what the street he grew up on looks like now on Google it’s so sad. Hope more people like this make the changes Detroit needs.
These houses are beautiful idea I'm happy to see them go to people who really want to turn themselves around. I hope that everyone here stays on this good path and don't go back to their old ways. Maintain the houses' beauty and live fulfilling, happy lives.
You're right! Visit the Eisenhower Library in Abilene KS, they have his old boyhood home preserved next door & it was like 900 sq ft & the parents raised 5 boys there, all close in age.
I can't agree with that. The city I live in has excellent records on housing and most of the houses built before 1950 are actually larger due to more available wood and land/cheaper prices adjusted for inflation.
Charles Coe I agree with you because in the early 1800-1900’s were very large grand homes and in the 1950’s builders began building smaller homes. But 800 sq ft homes weren’t the norm.
@@charlescoe226 those 1930s and 40s homes were generational ie grandparents-newborns and families for larger to work the land (cheap labor) more occupants than the average family size today
no,your information is from one isolated area and incredibly flawed.my home town which has tons of restored historic homes are mostly over 1500+ square feet.
@CarolinaGirl 1952 I live in British Columbia, Canada. It's the same situation here. As soon as you leave city limits, most homes are trailers. I think cities should allow people to have mobile homes outside of trailer parks, but most don't.
Just looking at these people you can see how their disposition is happy and they look healthier. When people have something that they can call their own, they become invested in it and work hard to keep it nicely maintained. Renting in low income areas is the opposite, since most renters aren't invested in where they live, thing don't stay nicely maintained. This tiny house community will probably never have a crime problem because the residents will do their best to keep bad stuff like that out of the neighborhood.
Italy tried a similar experiment with the "case popolari" these were apartments built by a city housing authority ranging in size from 600 to 1100 sq. ft. The houses had one to 3 bedrooms, usually 1 bathroom and some kind of all purpose living room. Low income people could apply for one of these residences, the authority would then assign them a house based on income and family size. Residents paid rent based on income and could modify the interiors as they pleased, they also paid a small fee for the cleaning and maintenance of common areas. Repairs for anything that broke inside the homes such as windows, bathrooms etc. were the responsibility of the residents. After paying rent for about 10 years residents could apply to purchase their homes at cost, usually about 10,000 to 20,000 euros. These neighborhoods often turned into crime zones .
The effort they put into the house will be proportional to the work they did to earn it. Give it to them for free, and in 12 months the house will be trashed and the people gone. They are always happy to get something for nothing. Their mouths run over with "I am so happy", "God bless you", and words. But comes time to maintain a home, they are sick, they are tired, have a sore back, or other excuses. When our community garden gave the poor at the food bank vegetables, they tallked happy talk. But no one ever hoed even one weed, never lifted one finger to help themselves. Their "thanks" only meant "give me some more". Sad but true ! ! !
This is my vision, ever since I saw these a few years ago in person when I was visiting family! In fact, this is what I'm studying in college right now. I want to honor my mom -- she was homeless on the Detroit streets for the majority of her life. But luckily my Guardian was able to get her off the streets about four years ago. Sadly, she passed away last year, November 14. RIP Momma

Convince your city or town to amend their zoning laws to allow for homes of this type. Familiarize yourself with the land use laws of your community. Identify potential lots. Most of the tiny home communities in the US were built and managed by non-profits, since banks don't like to finance tiny homes (too risky for them). This may sound crazy, but can some of those abandoned houses be raised and the materials be reused to build these small homes?
That's a good one.
There are laws against using used materials for building new homes. It’s a good idea but keep in mind a lot of these old houses Material is basically unusable to how old and weathered they are
^ true, but I believe you can still repurpose old materials for cosmetic reasons. So they can at least save on things like siding and trim.
I know all over the country parts of houses are saved and "repurposed". Doors, hardware, trim, even hardwood floors. It just seems a waste to demolish those houses and haul it off to the landfill. I really have know idea how much salvageable material would be in those houses. I was just a thought.

Not so anymore. Really, very sad. Nobody can afford a house unless they get a loan, something no one who makes minimum wage will even qualify for.

For informational purposes. Most people lived in 8oo square feet homes until about the 1950's.

This is much better than mobile homes and what a blessing that she put her inheritance into good use. We need these communities in every city!
Wouldn't work if land is expensive
@@HunkMine That's what I'm thinking. In many cities, your house is only worth like %10 of the property value
SpaseGoast That’s a great explanation. Even the guy who sold drugs to his community is now protecting it. I love it.
This is as cute as furry babies 🤗

@@Jenura01 yes most English properties have rooms smaller than 15ft by 15ft
@@janeway4eva For real? And families live in them?
@@lucretiaanders695 yes they do and sometimes have 3 children sharing one room

Its good too see stuff like this begin to happen, a suggestion for them would be to introduce into the landscape natural gardening and start them in a direction of self reliance thru nature also. every little bit counts.
+eyeofasoul I totally agree!
Same here
its fake i live in detroit its not real
Morgan Cosgrove the first tiny house IS REAL!! It’s on Elmhurst just down the street from the Lodge Service Drive. The next phase of the project will be on Monterey, one block over from Elmhurst. Cass Community Social Services is right across the street from the first tiny home. Go take a look, it’s FOR REAL!!
Morgan Cosgrove it's real, you can Google maps the addresses in the video and see the whole community in the photos. There's at least a dozen homes
It's been a year, maybe go back and see what it looks like today.
ctwatcher worked on one today they are very nice
Apparently they still look good till date
@USA STRONG ummm no....how about a community of strong people who are trying to get a second chance in life. So far it's working.
Yup, still looks like Detroit.

This is an incredibly well thought out program! I'm amazed at how many different moving parts there are. It's so comprehensive, and makes everyone feel good! I've never heard of anything like this, but it's pure genius! God bless you, Dear Lady!
I want one! I live in San Diego and about 85 percent of my check goes to rent.
Yeah, I'm from SD too. When I was little, I legitimately thought that a million dollars was a reasonable price for a house. Needless to say, the first time I watched House Hunters, I was very confused.
If u like cold hard winter's out there in mid west.
Wouldn’t mind cold weather
I feel ya, It happen to me too
Move out of Cali; it's a death and debt trap.
This is amazing. More communities need this program.
Finally! Housing anyone can afford. The market has failed to correct, the reverend has addressed a market failure
wrong. Gov just got in the Way
So touching to see people could be so completely selfless and help others in need
From the start, Ryan was very helpful and is continuing to be helpful about his ruclips.net/user/postUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 Plans . Also, they have answered all the questions I have asked & I got outstanding support from his My Shed Plans full package.
These homes are lovely and should be going up in all countries!
This is such a beautiful concept and outreach. They may be tiny homes in reality but they are mansions in spirit. There is nothing more gratifying than being able to say, this is my house, I paid for this. I own it.
I attend a church that helps feed the homeless and we have been talking about doing something similar. How can we get in touch with her and find out how she got started?
This is just not for the homeless. It's for everyone Who does not want a mortgage and be debt free no credits. I love this. I want to buy a tiny house with no mortgages.
@@Pennyk900 i would do that even if i did have a mortgage the mortgage would b so low (bc so little land& materials were used) id b able 2 pay it off in under 10 yrs

Thank you for giving second chances and opportunities to the people for the people and the community. This is a wonderful program you have unselfishly created and each house is beautiful. 💚❤️💜
This lady is a God sent earth angel 🥰 I love everything about these stories and Faiths vision. Thanks for sharing this video. This is such an inspiration. God Bless
I have always wanted to do something for the homeless that we have here in the USA! Thank you for the ideas that WORK full circle!
Love it! I wish each state have a community like that! Why you need a big house for? This is enough! Love what they have done for low income and second chance! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Every human being is entitled to a home. Yes, I said entitled. It is possible if we just looked out for one another no matter what your status
Indeed 😠
You got to EARN it. No one is entitled to anything other than the opportunity to achieve something for themselves.
It was that entitlement mentality that led to the housing market crash.
@@TheRealNormanBates gtfoh. Every animal on this earth gets a home for free. We as humans have to work harder than any other species for EVERYTHING. We all deserve a home and no man should be homeless no matter what. Point blank period. Love and compassion for all shouldn't be something that only a few people have in their hearts and only a few people act upon. This world is fried and people like you that share your opinion are the same people who make life even harder than it already is and love to close doors on people and opportunities for them.
Hingle McCringleberry when you become an adult and understand how money, bills and reality works, get back to me.
Until then, if you want to guarantee everyone a home, fine... _you pay for it_
I am not going to be a slave to your morality.

Nothing is free. It may not cost a bird money to build a nest, but it takes hard work. The difference between humans and birds though is the concept of private property, or the idea that a person can own their property without the threat of it being taken away by someone else, which is something a small bird would have to live in fear of. If you really want to live somewhere without paying money, go to a homeless shelter and live off of the hard work and donations of others. But if you are capable of earning a living, you should work to provide for yourself.
I'm from Detroit. This used to be a dangerous area that my sister had to walk through to get to school. This is awesome. I hope to see it when I go back in a few weeks to visit Detroit. I saw them constructing something in that area the last visit. Now I know what it is.
This is absolutely GENIUS!! I LOVE this idea and this should be implemented EVERYWHERE!!!
It's a great idea. Even with minimum wage work, you can live well, and that's what every working person wants; to simply live well. I hope to see some updates to this story. How is this tiny community holding up?
Thexomen pastorhas to create a job network next (Christian Jobs network) .
Good women
She is a beautiful person. I hope people find ways to get tiny houses to live in. I brought my first house in 2017 at 33 years old. God bless her.
That was over 2 years ago and I have to wonder what the houses look like now.
Please do a follow up.
I live about 8 blocks from the area. Several homes have been build since then. They look fine.
@Jack
They're not for sale. The units are part of a non-profit organization project. I think there's 26 of them.
You have to fill out a form etc., be homeless/very low income and they will rent one to you...but...you have to live there 7 years to actually BUY the unit. Lots of hoops to go through...
They are ghetto.

@@jackiepollard3843 That's why the rich hire maids, you can't deny the reality that being poor is not only a condition but a mindset, most poor people are messy and don't value property or common areas. How do I know this? I grew up extremely poor, below the poverty line. This is how others around me were, including my own parent and me since it's all I knew. It wasn't until I married and got out of there did I learn the value of things.

I think tiny homes are the future.u buy a 30,000 dollar home. When the banks done with u it's over a 100,000 .and u spend the rest of ur life jus paying rent to the bank and u die never truly owning a home.
