@Richard Quinones I see rich Latin, Black and Asian elites all the time. Maybe this area has more white people I don't know I have never been there. America is as big as Europe. It is so vast you will find lots of Latin people here in North Carolina. In fact when I first moved here I was amazed at how well so many black people were doing. It's different wherever you go as far as demographics it seems that most of the people interviewed in that Village were white. It takes a lot to make it here in America is an expensive place to live. Most low-income immigrants don't realize this fact. Many families are moving in together. Even middle-income people. The cost of living in America is atrocious. In order to make it and do well you have to be able to speak English, have a skill and an ability to work for yourself or an education. @@valeriehancotte-galan4790 that’s not true. It has very little to do with “training”. Dogs bark if there is stimulation. Some will do it more than others. It’s not only the homeless that are concerned about housing. I live in a 55 and older community and at least keeps going up and up eating into our savings. Most of us would love to have a little bungalow with a group of people that can get along together grow food cook together and laugh. Good work Guy. @bina nocht You mean rent-to-own? Possible, but not really done in a lot of states. Same as a co-op. You don't see those, either. Not outside NY, anyway. Anything can be done for money, though. Technically, they can't have bias against you for your age. You'd have a perfect lawsuit.

I'm not shocked about their ability to govern themselves. I can see it, I wish there were more communities like yours. Please continue with doing a great job, I'm sure it feels rewarding for all involved. Awesome!
Who the heck thumbs down this brilliant and compassionate project. I don't understand people. This should be a model for the entire country. Well done.
It's pretty wonderful what you're doing. Housing should be a human right for anyone who wants it, somewhere safe to sleep shouldn't be denied to anyone.
This is absolutely necessary as a homeless child of most of my childhood with my mom and two sister this would have been a blessing and would have saved us alot of mental and physical abuse.
Children growing up unhoused is one of my biggest fears and worries. Children should not be made to have adult worries, where are we sleeping tonight, am I going to go to bed hungery, when can I have a bath, but most of all when does this go away? God bless you.
Gosh I'm soo sorry. I have three kids and can't imagine....very sad to hear. I think I've mentally blocked out the fact that kids can be homeless too...it's hard enough thinking about adults. This SHOULD NOT be happening ANYWHERE in the world!
What a heart warming idea! This is not a filty tentcamp, its hope and life, love and a new chance for them that needs it the most. I wish there were more of these. Investment in those around you is an investment in hope for humanity. We need more tiny villages.
That's what I'm hoping for also, to help the working homeless, rent out lots for tiny homes or campers. Have some type of common areas, gardening, live off the land thing
Writing this half way thru. EVERY CITY has land vacant acting as a place for shite to happen. EVERY CITY can use that land as a self governing community. Imagine the ripple effect .... imagine vacant land housing a community looking out for the community and its surroundings. No tents to be seen.
I love what they said about why should only rich people get to feel safe in a gated community. As a low income disabled human myself, I’ve been homeless a few times last year which was scary as all hell, I’m just lucky I had help and a place to rest my head safely. But I could easily have ended up permanently on the streets and never have a safe space to have my son. I’m now married and in a safe place with my three kids and wife. It’s crazy what two years of difference can bring.
I’m not a homeless person . But I am a single woman by myself and I’m too old to do more than one job. I would love to have my own little tiny house. I rent a room in a house but I have no access to cook and all my food is microwaved. It would be nice to have a little house to call My own. We need some of these tiny house villages where I live.
@@og-greenmachine8623 if the homeless people will sleep on the streets or under bridges for shelter, they won’t refuse a little shed that provides them with what they need to sleep a peaceful night.
you know what i think is really healthy about this aside from the self governance is that these people, many of whom are probably single or very alone in life, now have a community of other people they can relate to. that's actually something that people of much greater means in regular housing often lack. very nice community. i hope this catches on.
Yes if some didn't have family before, they do now! These communities make their own little families after a time. Build friendships & relationships. 💝
This is amazing. These people are amazing. If there were more of these "villages" around the state's I think the lives of so many people could be changed!
We have our first community like this in Edinburgh, Scotland now. The fact that there is access to fresh air and a garden is really important as well. Wonderful. 💖
I wish we had this in the City where I live, it would help so much!! 😔 seeing ppl sleeping under the bridge is heartbreaking...especially in the freezing cold. 😢
Bravo Eugene! So PROUD of all the WONDERFUL individuals supporting this vision to treat houseless individuals w/ DECENCY! As a former Oregonian, now living in another 'high homelessness' state, your efforts can be emulated everywhere! Seeing your Opportunity Village residents SMILES while living together harmoniously warms all hearts! Would suggest setting up a foundation to accept ideas, donations which could include labor like what Habitats for Humanity does. College students leaning about architecture & building could be woven in too. Betcha many would generously gift for this great cause to support their own community members! ♡♡♡
@@meman6964 I disagree the government should invest into these types of initiatives in every expensive city especially if it includes a trading sharing program.
@@archeressbirthkeeping78 I disagree if the government doesn’t pay for things like this why pay them anything they should just be comprised of volunteers. If we pay them for things they should implement policies that make communities like this and Community First village easier to be approved. All they have to do is make the zoning allow for communities like this i.e. turn malls into affordable housing and flea markets.
@@KRYMauL Ah. That is where we disagree. The government is horrible at delegating Finances. I'm more a fan of "let the people keep the money so they can change their own communities instead of lining the pockets of rich politicians." :) Individuals are far kinder than the government.
We need this more than EVER with the upcoming housing crisis. Hoping that now even middle class people facing homelessness will be more compassionate and realize it can happen to anyone. Hope and prayers this plan will spread across the country quickly!😁❤
Another very inspirational Tiny House Community to keep people safe off of the streets. Looking forward to seeing more and more of these communities built to give people shelter until houselessness is no more. Thank you for sharing this.
This is so much better than just a big government housing apartment building. It’s good to give them a sense of having a home. I’m glad someone is there to oversee this and keep the community clean.
I loved Alice and what she did to her home, she really made it beautiful. This community is a great step in the right direction for those who are “un-housed.” Hope this spreads across the country, this really is a fantastic idea!!!! Thank you 🙏!!
That was great. I'd actually heard of Emerald Village before, my wife showed me the plans and said a Church was developing it, glad to see the project was constructed!
Actually it is the pastor of the church that started a non-profit to do this work. I have now been here at Emerald Village for 2 1/2 years. If you are in the Eugene area or are planning to visit, we would love to give you a tour. Go to squareonevillages.org and schedule a tour when covid-19 is no longer a threat. We would love to have you visit.💖💖💖
That is the money question right there. I ask you please, go online to squareonevillages.org Read their story, see what they had to go thru to make this a reality. Maybe it will inspire you to do this in your town. Best of luck to you.
Good question I just saw a video on a musician who funded over 100k towards building these houses but the government took them away because "they look bad, and are dangerous"lmao (not laughing at the situation I'm laughing at the governments shitty excuses)
Having a roof over your head no matter how small, that provides privacy and an address gives people sense of dignity and pride, and each other a sense of community. Who are we to judge those who have lost their homes for whatever circumstances they’ve had. This transitional opportunity is great. More power to the organizers. I hope all communities and countries adapt this concept.
You really don’t know what people go through until your in there shoes trust me I know . Sending prayers & blessings to homeless people everywhere keep you head up
Favorite Quote from the video: "A more humane society, that makes it possible for people to live more decently", with out enormous debt. Last part I added
@J Love So the answer is to live in a fucking dog house? You mean to tell me you can’t imagine a middle ground solution? We’re all communist now. Welcome to the new America
There are all kinds of ways. It is only possible with goals in mind, hard work and determination. The 2400 sq ft house, two car payments and living to work is not "the american dream" but financial bondage!
@@og-greenmachine8623 Why the hostility mr potty mouth? There are many kinds of tiny houses and they are certainly not dog houses! Learning to live debt free and without all the crap we have collecting dust in our homes is very desirable to more people than you could imagine. yes, helping people have dignity goes far, some are adoptees who were never adopted, others need meds and shelter, etc., the list goes on, but they all deserve safety, help, and someone to trust and believe in them, just love this idea it is humane and gives me hope for human kind to give a hand up to other humans.

I would love to be apart of helping somehow, donating or helping raise funds or other ways. I'm thinking about it now, I love the concept and the work behind it's all. I have been in very tough situations in my own life and know the hurt of having kn shelter, no family support facing rejection and being humiliated driven into bad conditions. So I'm looking to give back. A N G E L
They need to make everyone in LA who are making all the decisions sit down and be made to watch this...twice This is what should be happening everywhere
There are a lot of amazingly incredible people out there who offered to donate in supported this project. It's awsome to see our homeless housed giving them stability so they're able live in a safe environment and much more...
This seems to be a wonderful idea. And it should be implemented nation wide. Because my youngest 2 kids and I were homeless in 2019 and I truly would support these type of projects, because I met a lot of people who would truly appreciate something like this 😌
Everyone deserves their dignity. This is an opportunity for people to gain their self respect and heal in a safe place while they support others who are doing the same. We need this option for our people who have a need for this.
We need to start a program like this in Albuquerque New Mexico are homeless problem is out of control and it’s really nice that you guys can make this work we need to get our city leaders behind us to build something like this
Keep up the great work you're doing - AWESOME! Not only for homelessness but would also be good for seniors on their own who can look after themselves who have low income. I personally would love to live in something like this than in an apartment building.
This made me cry (happy tears) because this is my dream come true to life! I have been dreaming of this whole concept for many years now where if I had the financial means I would do exactly what they are doing...have transitional housing to get people off the street and give them the resources to set them up for success so they can be employed (preferably self-employed) and homeowners themselves one day. I also like the idea of the community being self-governed. Now if we can take that concept and govern ourselves as a society.......
I have so much love and respect for those who give of themselves to help those who are homeless. Because these people need and deserve all the help they can get. It’s people like you that helps make our country such a great place to live. It’s been said so many times but it’s so true. You really are heroes because your enriching the lives of those less fortunate by giving them a chance to better themselves. God bless you all! ☺️💖🌹
My mom always told us that everyone is one paycheck away from being homeless.. and taught us that you treat the janitor with the same respect as thr CEO... always respect everyone... homeless or not.. we can all be there. I am about two weeks from losing my home and scared to death to be on the streets. I dont know what i am going to do. something like this would be a god send for me right now. God bless you all... we are all human.. regardless of issues or problems.. we all bleed the same... and we all deserve the basic human respect and dignity!! Thank you to all of those involved in this project.. you truly are a blessing!!
I completely understand what that woman who was fixing up her little house said. Her humble explanation of what its like to be one of "those people" made her so human. If everyone could "see" her like that, they'd realize that she and others are just as important as anyone else, regardless of circumstances.
You wouldn't believe how much of a difference it would make, in every community, having a tiny house. It could be so stressful living with the elements of the weather, crime, your health - physically and mentally. They all should get a medal - for surviving. So should I! I've been homeless, off & on for the last 28 yrs . I am going on 62 in March and am getting real tired.
I really hope you'll get support - and have the strength to receive it. I keep my fingers crossed for you to get one of those gem-houses - or house-gems. I turned 60 this year. Can't imagine living outside for "good". Hugs from Europe.
Opportunity Village is helping people and each one is very unique as is the people that live in them. This is America and no one should ever be homeless. Alice is a very talented seamstress and I'm surprised Alice isn't working part time sewing. Opportunity 💜💜💜💜💜💜
Yes i worked for City of Atlanta as a S.W.E.E.T. Officer. I saw so much that could be done throughout the city. I’d go to community meetings and would make suggestions was even hoping to get to Ms. Bottoms…they made sure to furlough me out😔 Sad
I adore Alice. What a shining soul on that woman. I havent genuinely hugged someone in years, but I just wanted to give her the biggest hug. I really hate that people like her have to feel that stigma of homelessness. Like homelessness isnt fucking bad enough, but to have to feel like people thought "oh you're one of THOSE". She seems like shes in a good place, and Im happy for everyone here to be a safe, warm space.
I just LOVE the portraits of the inhabitants in front of their houses! That could become a work of art! Expensive coffee-table books for the ones who can afford a coffee-table - and fund the project!😉 Plus they could show off their generosity to their friends.
Great idea! Thank God for whoever came up w/it! We should all pray for every single city to start building these, especially people w/the means to give & support places like this. I would definitely like to become involved when I'm more stable; I'm saving the info. Dear Lord, please put it on the hearts of those able to make this a widespread solution for the homeless & bring awareness to people across America in the precious name of Jesus. Amen!
Would be nice if every town or city had a parcel of land that contained a village of these small homes/living abodes. Altho, if I had the money, I'd make more abodes that were twice the size with a sleeping loft and hidden stairs or like a tiny home stairs. And built in closet and drawers/cabinets. If more of the wealthy (ex.: Hollywood stars. sports celebrities, extremely wealthy) individuals that are always griping about inequality, privileged, unprivialged, would put their money where there mouth is to help the underprivileged and homeless, the world would be a better place. I gave $80 per month for 18 yrs to the United Fund (to go local communities) to help others. After I had to get on disability, I only give to known individual causes several times a year. It does help others even if its only a few dollars.
Please go to Emerald Village Eugene on Facebook. I have been here 2 1/2 yrs now. These are permanent structures with electricity and plumbing. There are 22 tiny houses here.
