- In this video we show you the only real fix for the leaky plastic oil pans on the 2nd Gen 3.5L Ecoboost Engines.
The Fix:
Part 1
• 2017-2018 Ford F-150 3...
Part 2
• 2017-2018 Ford F-150 3...
It's Ford excellence in engineering it allows oil to leak from the pan as you're driving and the wind helps disperse it evenly across the frame preventing it from rusting😅
British rustproofing
Imagine if it just came from the factory with an aluminum pan already
Now, that's just crazy talk! Why would they want to do something like that?
@@Crusty_Otter you’re right. Makes too much sense lol
only in the land of make believe 😂
The raptor engine does
@@maverick12916They'll fix this in a future revision, rest assured.😂
The ONLY real fix is the most expensive option...that Ford should have done in the first place. Really, who thinks a plastic oil pan is a good idea?
Learning from BMW engineers
Just cost effective for Ford. Same engine in multiple platforms. All manufacturers are making junk today.
Planned obsolescence claims another victim. They should all be sued out of existence!
Stop and think about the abject stupidity of what you just suggested.
Boy you got that right
Say No, to plastic engine parts.
Looks like trans is about to drop out.
no
apparently composite oil pans are popular on big rigs, and don't have this issue.
@@burgegerm7878idk- i see the new trucks with plastic leak much quicker than the old school metal ones. Not terrible but not nearly as good as old fashioned metal.
Why something like this not a mandatory recall is beyond comprehension. Manufacturers should be held accountable for producing trash!!
Whichever Ford engineers or management that approved "plastic oil pan" needs to be relieved of their jobs...
Garbage plastic parts. Reminds me of the thermostat housing on my Ranger 4.0l. Went through the stock one and two plastic replacements before I finally put an aluminum one on it. Haven't had a problem since.
Same engine on the Ford mustang had the same issue. Replaced it with a aluminum aftermarket version and didn't have anymore problems.
Plastic thermostat housing? WTF?
Same with plastic intake manifolds
Ford? Never again. All they care about is profit.
So nice Ford could make available a correct aluminum oil pan for the oem factory installed subpar plastic leakers. Now.. to go purchase one.
It's looking bad when Ford is using plastic oil pans while even penny pinching GM is using metal oil pans on their trucks. W. T. F.
Plastic oil pan. What are they thinking! SMH
It ain't just a Ford thing...all manfs. are doing it...even class 8 semis..
I cant believe Ford charges upwards of 90 grand for a new F150 and it comes with a plastic oil pan..
Oh!.. Metal oil pan!... No leaks...but I'll lose .010 miles per gallon gas mileage!.. 😂😂😂.... Not!... Just say no to plastic!!
😂😂😂...Pay a "million" dollars for a trk made out of Beer cans and Barbie dolls...😮😮😮😮!!!
So it’s 2024. Space rockets, internet, global social media, AI chat bot. And we can’t stick the one metal thingy to the other metal thingy without it leaking. Got it
I can't wait for the plastic cylinder heads!
There should be a recall on these since Ford knows this is a problem. Anyone know what the cost of this upgrade would be?
There is a tsb
@todds5956 and they will give you a new plastic lower pan
@@todds5956what's a tsb?
@@mddunlap03at what cost?
They will never do a recall for non-safety design failures.
Ok, plastic oil pan, impressive. What next plastic valve train?
We have a 20 and 21 Explorer ST with 3.0L TTGDI we went thru 2 plastic pans, 1 each I'm glad I bought extended warranties.
We have a 21 ST, I will have to keep an eye on it. This is why I bit the bullet and got the 8 yr 125k warranty
FordTechMakuloco is a super technician. Knows a lot.
I’m afraid to take off my shields now. If I see mine is leaking, I would 100% do this fix.
I'm thinking that the reason the shields are installed on the trucks is to mask this issue until the truck is out of the warranty.
@@markk3652 the engine diaper
Plastic? Who thought that was a good idea ffs.
👍

Had to replace our entire fleet
More poor ford engineering. Does it ever end?
😅 Typical Ford 🙄 yes all 3 are shitty now, but Man Ford really takes the cake lately. I'm no fan boy of either just calling out crap when i see it. It should be borderline illegal what this industry is doing to us as buyers and you as mechanics and techs. Parts supply is just crap now. Plus, then they want you to cut time on instill. Yes, nothing lates forever, but at 40 60 80 or even 100,000 dollar rides that are 3to5yrs old should not need a motor pulled for a 10cent seal or stupid a** plastic. That should not be inside of a motor anyway. 30k water pumps are exploding and 30k oil pumps are exploding timing chains snapping phasers falling😅 Lifters failing goes on and on. Ill say it again all 3 😁
Dude, that plastic looks like the plastic frame from my WPL C24 lmao. Must be exactly the same
Only real fix do not buy ford.
Same issue with alot of Audi's we work on. Need to upgrade to metal pan and get rid of plastic garbage
Yep, this is why I don't buy Ford's anymore. I grew up in a Ford family. Back in the day "built Ford tough" was true. Now they're cheaply built. You know how many w/p jobs I see for Ford Explorer's with the timing chain driven w/p. I wonder what drug addicts thought that was a good idea.
I just don't buy that ecoBoom garbage in the first place. Saves me all kinds of headache maintaining my F150.
I've been a diesel technician for 21 years and I don't understand why anyone would buy a Ford. They're nothing but problems.
and how much dies that POSh__t cost and you get a plastic pan? unbelievable
Ford, right? Seriously, I think Henry is totally pissed at what has happened to his company and products.
Bad Idea for a major power train component! Along with the plastic transmission pans too! Just Bad!
I didn’t know they were making oil pans from plastic. That’s too cheap!
Plastic oil pan?????
You know, if I was the manufacturer and my engineers come up with this idea.I think somebody might lose their job
R T V...I JUST DO NOT TRUST THAT...GASKET WITH GASKA-CINCH...ZERO LEAKS....
Plastic oil pans should be recalled. They're cheap for a reason and have no business being used on 45k+ vehicles.
Yeah, there’s no way in hell. I’ll be buying Any more new trucks if this is the quality that they put out
Why would you put plastic for a engine fan or an intake. Just problems
Ford had a better idea…. Yet again. How to engineer future problems for the dealerships.
Why they pit plastic ? Next thing is exaust manifoul of plastic too
The only way to truly fix this issue is to never buy anything with an EcoBoost.
This should be a factory recall for the price they charge for a new vehicle 😂
Good luck they did that with my truck had to take back three dang times auto company’s are a joke anymore
plastic? what the heck kind of OEM oil pan design is that...
Aluminium pan leaks too just ask GM
plastic engine parts should be completely ILLEGAL.Why the hell are all you people putting up with this and paying 80,000 for trash like Silverados?
Why is Ford in such bad shape these days? What has happened to their engineering departments?
They will keep doing until people stop buying this 💩
Does anybody have part numbers?
Can't any mfg take oil retention seriously? Speaking as a tech that has replaced HUNDREDS of Chrysler 'oil filter adaptors'...😅
what about the leaking turbo lines
Is a way for you to need an engine replacement soon😅
Can you tell me what years this affects and if Ford corrected the problem?
That is way too much sealant 😅😂
Ford out here making sure techs stay busy
The only real picture to destroy and put it in the yard😢
I think the real fix is to buy another brand
I curse the evil swine that came up with plastic oil pans in cars.
Fix is sell it and never buy one again.
Car companies just trying to cut cost
What about the 2.7L Ecoboost? Aluminum pan not available to my knowledge.
Nope but they have an updated plastic pan.
Glad I bought a Chevy Silverado 12 years ago with the cheap iron 4.3. No issues and it’s straightforward to fix.
My 2011 5.0 same thing
WTF……..plastic oil pans???
Ha ha ha ha. F O R D. Don’t people ever learn?
Stop buying fords
F Ford and thier plastic parts 2
The only real fix is to swap it out with a Toyota
The real fix is to buy a chevy
Let me see… hot engine, hot engine oil and plastic oil pan. I’m not a engineer but I did sleep at a Howard Johnson’s last night
Only real fix is buy a Toyota
I told people not to buy those junk
Quality is job one 😂
Another leak-o-boost……
More plastic parts! 🤦
Piece of crap eco boost Ford
They do this on purpose
Everytime I hear folks say they like the gen 2 or gen 3 3.5L EcoBoost over the gen 1, I just say why??? Love my gen 1, no phaser issues, already has the aluminum pan... no issues with mine at 150K miles. I don't baby it either.
Is that a Ford pan? What about the bulletin that tells us to change the valve covers on some.
Yes it is a Ford pan and the valve cover issue relates to the 2.7L only.
I'm a true ford fan, but some of the stuff that they do is crazy 😂😂
It isn't crazy, it's a form of theft. They are squeezing their customers for more money. Deliberately designing their cars to be more and more disposable.
Certainly, Ford is not the only ones pulling this crap, but they sure are one of the worst.
I'm a Ford fan, too. But Man, some of this stuff is ridiculous! It's all about saving on production costs. I remember back in the 1980's a few makes and models started getting plastic radiators. Downsizing, lighter weight, cheaper quality construction and parts. And the beat goes on to this day--only worse.
I’m not a Ford fan and I’m glad I’m not
@BruceBiazzo-qp1rh The oil pump drive belt inside the pan (1.0-1.3) takes the cake. Shows they could care less.
Fords bite
Are you fucking kidding me, a plastic oil pan WTF? At least someone's making a metal replacement
Worse than that, my 2017 Fx4 "Off Road" has the same damned plastic oil pan - and it sits so low I still have to use ramps or jack stands just to change the oil. How is it any kind of "Off Road" package?
Too much sealant. And you are so right and always are
These were recalled and replaced. Will there be a another recall soon? Wtf?!
Really where?
Do they have aluminum oil pan replacements for the 2019-2024 Edge and Edge ST ?
My favorite part is when we’re doing a cdf or rebuild & on top the pan is pouring oil & they decline the pan 😂
Okay well add 6hrs to the labor when you finally “need” it 😂😂 like alright cool, extra $300 now, or an extra $1,000 later.
What years & models have the plastic pan ?
Thanks for helping us keep our Ford's maintained. ❤❤❤❤❤
This should be a recall item fixed by Ford! Don't let them get away with this terrible part that won't work on on their 3.5 ecoboost! Class Action will get the fix repaired!
Ford still laments the good Ole days, when simple engineering ingenuity accomplished their goals. A strike-pin just ahead of a gas tank placed as far back as possible - voila!
Such disdain for their customers, Republican Capitalism.
All this fuel ecnomy is b.s
Only so light you can make something before its, junk.
Drive f150s all my life but wont own that crap. After the warranty is over thats junk.
Want to give up my 2013 but the thoughts of this crap makes me sick.
The only real fix it to scrap it and make it into a toaster.
Toasters aren’t plastic.
Do they make an aluminum oil pan for a 2.7
Why can’t Ford get it right every since the 5.4 triton their trucks have been 💩
The real fix is to stop buying all of these desperately designed garbage vehicles from all these greedy manufacturers. Why are consumers settling for less? We have the power to eradicate most of these corner cutting designs if people would just stop buying the next shiny toy. Why are manufacturers enabled to have all the control?
I wont be buying a new ford anytime soon until quailty is figured out
U win some lose some. been and F150 guy long time, had the 5.0, bought it new, 80k miles started dying on me. I "patched the engine code up just enough." Took that bad boy to Ford dealer. Said its the prefect time to sale the 5.0 had it 3 years, 80k miles ill get the most on the trade in. :) played the game and walked away with a new truck no questions. Same payments.
What year 3.5v6 have these pans?... looking at.buying a edge
With a 3.5 non turbo...is it.the ecoboost engines only that have these plastic pans?
