  • Abandoned McDonald's - New Philadelphia, OH. Today we check out this old McDonald's that closed years ago. You may recognize this location from watching That Nate Guy On RUclips doing a couple of videos from here years ago. In 2021, it still stands completely vacant.

    I miss McDonalds and Burger King back in the early 2000s when they were crazy colors and felt like fast food chains not futuristic unhappy chains

    • @christiangonzales7429
      @christiangonzales7429 3 года назад +5

      The modern shoebox architecture of every fast-food chain is the same, a grey box with windows. Back then, each building was unique and had character (such as the Spanish-Mission style Taco Bells and the red roof Pizza Huts).

    • @redstickham6394
      @redstickham6394 3 года назад +2

      @@christiangonzales7429 I agree. There's nothing distinctive about these restaurants anymore. In my area, Burger King seems to be going away slowly. There are two closed burger kings on my daily work commute. They are still in use, but haven't been changed much. One has housed a couple of different restaurants since closing; a po-boy restaurant and a seafood restaurant. Never ate at either so I can't comment. The other has since been the home of 2 used car lots! As for Pizza Hut, in my area, Pizza Huts have transformed from dine in place to carry out and delivery only now. Most of the red roof buildings are gone too. One of the red roof buildings was kept but painted completely white and now houses an Indian restaurant. Another has since housed a Cajun/Mexican fusion and a burger restaurant. It now houses a pawn shop! There are also still a few of the Spanish Mission Style Taco Bells around, also housing po-boy restaurants. Every place will soon look the same, and it's very unfortunate.

    • @christiangonzales7429
      @christiangonzales7429 3 года назад +1

      @@redstickham6394 I agree with you a million percent on all of this. The shoebox designs that almost all of these restaurants use is taking over, and they will be bland, characterless boxes. I looked up that Burger King that became Verizon and it looks identical to my neighborhood BK prior to its remodel, which is still open. The Spanish mission Taco Bells are even more rare than the red roof Pizza Huts; I can't find one still open anywhere near me. They've been converted to a plethora of different things; there is one active red-roof Pizza Hut near me but they painted the roof grey AND they replaced the trapezoid windows with full-sized square ones. Yum Brands obviously does not care about the brand's heritage!

They kept the New Philly Boulevard (4th Street) and the Dover interstate exit ones open. This one was hard to make a left out of there when traffic was busy. The front was a playland and the kitchen window with the tiles, they were like a pilot store for pizza a bunch of years ago and it had a sign about it in the window. You had the drive thru flow correct. Cheers!

    McDonald's often have a basement storage area, with freezers, dry goods storage, laundry, and sometimes offices or training rooms. The stairs shared with a conveyor belt is also common. What is VERY unusual is seeing the stairs and conveyor outside the building. I've never see that before. Usually that storage basement is supposed to be super secure because it's usually where the frozen meat is stored. And that's a huge theft target, believe it or not. So having direct outside access is insane. Yeah there's nothing like Sheetz MTO. I miss it. Haven't been to Sheetz in 6 years.

    I worked my first job at a McDonald's in the late 70s. This one looks more like the one where I first worked, but mine was attached to a strip center and didn't have a drive-thru.

    The front of that McDonald was definitely a "Playplace" with a ball pen and other play equipment.

    New Philly is my hometown. That McDonalds has been vacant for several years now....Pizza Hut across the street is out of business, too. Too bad you didnt know about the vacant former adult video/book store down the street !!

    I use to work there til they closed few years ago. The roof was falling in. The order screen was in the back right as it started to turn.

      my mother hated the foam mcdonald’s cups and would always ask for a plastic one because her car’s cup holders would sometimes tear the bottom off the foam cup when she went to take a drink from it

    There is a closed Burger King near where I live, three other restaurants have gone into the place since the BK closed and each of them failed, when it was a Burger King I ate there a lot because it was so close to where I lived and I knew then that its days were numbered because you could tell it was underperforming due to the lack of business. A few years ago the building went up for auction due to unpaid taxes and either nobody bid or the bids were not high enough and it still sits there empty and unused, does not even have a for sale sign on it.

    I absolutely hate the bistro style McDonald's buildings. They are tacky and boring looking and the food has seriously declined over the last 20 years.

    God I remember this location me my brother's would go there with our grandma and I drive past it every time and I think of the good memories there that location has been closed for 6 or 7 yeas so it's been awhile the reason for its closure is there is a McDonald's in Dover Ohio and there is a McDonald's down the road from that one one its on the street Boulevard so I see why this one closed because it was to close to another location the dover and the one in New Philadelphia are still open they are owned by the same person along with the closed one but very rare to see an old McDonald's like this especially a closed one
