I liked Walter’s character arc throughout the duration of Alpha Flight. It was fun!

Yeah, a really fascinating journey. He should be one of the most insightful characters in the Marvel Universe after the transformations he lived through.

@@jmstater Walter should never have been the doormat of the Marvel Universe. Anybody who can prevent a plane from taking off (and then tossing it aside like it was easy as pie) should not be taken lightly or as a joke.
ALPHA FLIGHT should be (can be?) a force to be reckoned with.

Alpha Flight were the red-headed stepchildren of Marvel comics, so they had no editorial protection from writers. Too many super strong characters, a more popular gamma-powered character (even though Sasquatch turned out not to be gamma-powered) in the Hulk, etc.
I kind of like, though, that Alpha never hit the heights of Avengers and X-Men - it was the special, secret clubhouse for its own little fandom, kind of like the Legion of Super-Heroes for D.C. The other books were for the Marvel normies.

Threatened with severe punishment if she didn't, Narya had to fulfill the duty entrusted to her by The Old Gods (# 23). And yet, Snowbird will not just leave Langkowski's soul to suffer whatever fate awaited, trapped with Tanaraq's spirit on the planet of the Beasts.
Putting together a team with a chance of succeeding in saving Walter is a smart move, and Snowbird and Talisman do it. Snowbird (evidently) knows she can't just march onto the Beasts' home turf---ALONE---and expect to prevail. That would have been foolish. Snowbird needs the rest of ALPHA FLIGHT to have any real hope of accomplishing the mission.
Because it turns out that SOMON is a liar and does ALPHA dirty. SOMON (evidently) knows Michael's flaw: self-assurance that tips to over-confidence. But Michael makes adjustments, thinks on his feet. Reformulates possibilities. And finds a way to succeed.
Saving Walter's soul comes at great cost, but it is the Hallmark of this new ALPHA FLIGHT that they succeeded. Aurora, whose powers have been altered, who may be WEAKER than before the experiment that changed her, is determined to save Walter. Judd is all-in, no questions asked. [Me, I'd be worrying about how to get back if something happens to Shaman...or Talisman...or both of them].
Heroes don't worry about stuff like that. Heroes trust their teammates. And rightly so.
    Enjoy it while it lasts.
Because friendship, bravery, and common sense won't mean anything very, very soon.
