Hi Miranda, another fabulous video especially the day trip to Salts Mill. What a beautiful village. So peaceful makes me want to live there. The bookshop was beautiful and the stationary beautiful what to buy must be hard. The paintings on the wall are breathtaking and same with antiques. Flowers will look lovely in the vase. Hi Miranda, I'm having the most hectic week with very little time so I will rewatch this to take it all in properly, but the Ink Dark Moon poetry collection has appealed to me for some time because I am very interested in Japanese literature and these little poems are perfect for when I'm too tired or busy to read anything else - like now! I too appreciate their age. I noticed that Basho's Haiku is now a Little Clothbound Classic in a bookshop the other day. I also find The Pillow Book by Sei Shonagon really interesting to dip into. There are a lot of lists which I have used as titles to create my own and some of it is still surprisingly relevant and similar to our thoughts today.

Thank you Miranda and Donna for such a lovely video. I have ordered books from the Salts Mill bookshop before now and my husband is very familiar with Saltaire having worked nearby some years ago. We are both inspired by your video to make a visit on our way from Hornsea to Ambleside in October as we will need to break the journey - it will be very special to see the Hockney exhibition and especially as it looked so good in your video. 🍂🧡

Hi Miranda and Donna, thank you for a lovely surprise video. I have so enjoyed it this morning. We have a painting of Salts Mill in our dining room, a souvenir of holidays in Yorkshire when our children were much younger, but I have never been there myself. I know I would not have managed to come away from the bookshop without some purchases. And David Hockney conveys such joy and delight in his paintings, they seem to welcome you into the magic of nature, even the ones where it’s pouring with rain!! We passed through Normandy last week on our way to the Loire and stopped off early in the morning in a very pretty village called Beuvron sur Auge, sitting in the village square with coffee and treats from the boulangerie felt like being immersed in a Hockney painting!!

I appreciate how you show everything slowly so you feel like you are right there browsing at everything. I thoroughly enjoyed the David Hockney art exhibit. The timing was so perfect as I am reading his book “Spring cannot be cancelled”. He wrote it while he was in Normandy and it has a lot of his paintings in it.

I love the excursions that you and your mom take! Any time we want to attend an art exhibit here (San Francisco area), it is such a big deal. Parking alone will make you think twice (availability and cost)! Although, it is usually worth it - art is such a treat!!

What a beautifully preserved Victorian village, somewhere I've not visited in Yorkshire, I must remedy that soon. I do adore David Hockney's art, and that particular installation is so interesting. I’m from Ohio in the United States and near where I live there is a Presidential First Ladies museum. They were featuring Jackie Kennedy and I saw a book there that immediately made me think of you! It was a copy that her sister Lee Bouvier wrote called One Special Summer. What made me think of you was the illustrations..they are fabulous! If you ever run across a copy I highly recommend it!! I loved this extra bonus video! I really enjoyed seeing all the books you shared and you showing us around on your trip out together with Donna. I'm ashamed to say that I have been really surprised by how much there is to go and see in Yorkshire outside of the norm that you think of and I am thoroughly enjoying exploring with you! Miranda & Donna - you girls are so lucky to have towns with bookstores. Here in the US-Midwest we have few remaining. Even the large box book stores are disappearing as they want mail order - hate that.
I looked up your little Poole vase. I do not know this brand) from the 1920’s - I found a tiny vase for $500 USD. Is that a good price?
Also, thanks about that light recommendation and I’ve reached out to them. I’ve used several Ott lights and have donated them as they just did not provide enough light. I can’t wait to receive their catalog and find my new light.

That's very expensive for Poole pottery, at least over here! You can still find some in charity shops on lucky occasions, or plenty for under £50 ( as I did). Hope you enjoy having a look through the lights! xxx

Had it not been for your mention now, I'd wanted to read it seeing it on Sunday at main display at my large bookstore up the next hill and had already forgot it. Our US cover has the orange cover tones. Lovely great pottery find! As I passed our neighborhood ceramics shop Sunday there was a great Sale and I got a lovely cup and plate 1st time in!

Lovely video as usual. Thank you particularly for the heads up re: the Katherine Rundell book - I was going to pick up the beautiful Waterstones edition for my 8 year old this weekend but I will make sure to read it before I pass it on to him (which I'm sure won't be a chore :))
You're welcome! The ending and a death of an animal would have upset me a bit when I was 8; your son might be fine, but I think it's good to have a head's up with this one! It's a real page-turner though, so I'm sure he'll enjoy it (and you too!!) xxx
