Goodbye, Mr. Chips reminds me of the book (also a movie with Jennifer Jones) called Good Morning, Miss Dove, about a schoolteacher whose life, because of her long career, was much fuller than most realized.

Miranda, I always love ALL of your recommendations. Just my kind of list. Always unusual finds and not the expected: best sellery, most popular, current reads so often featured on many BookTube channels. I am not saying they should disappear. No. There are so many great reads that having a variety of suggestions, beyond recent/au current published books, means someone like me is sure to find another "must have" book to add on to the endless conveyor belt stack of reads in their possession. lol. I love *Coronation* 👑 The family is just delightful. I remember my genuine anger when the bad news arrives, and then my admiration at how they pluck up. It's a great story.

I love your vids. 'Goodbye Mr Chips' is a lovely book. It reminds me a bit of 'Its a Wonderful Life' in that the protagonists a reminded of how much they have given to the world and how they have influenced the people around them. A lesson for all of us. Thank you Miranda. Your channel always makes ne feel good. You are such a joyful person.

I hadn’t realised AJ Pearce had a new book out. That will be going on my TBR list as I loved Dear Mrs Bird and Yours Cheerfully. The Rossettis book is so beautiful. I love Pre-Raphaelite art. Enjoy your break and visit with your dad!

I've as yet to join the Comfort Book Club, but will be doing so in August with All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot, and will continue on from there as well as reading some of your past book club choices (Many of which I own, because of your recommendations LOL). Miranda, Just had a chance to catch up with this video today and it was just what I needed as I recuperate from a nasty cold. So glad you enjoyed both "Mrs. Porter Calling" (am eagerly waiting for it to arrive from Blackwells) and "Good bye Mr. Chips" (a favorite). I will now be on the lookout for "Coronation". Always love the real mixture of books you read and haul. They all sound so great. I need to get back to some Persephones. I seem to have a habit of collecting them and not getting to them which needs to train. Can’t wait for your thoughts on Blood Knots. Oooh I didn’t know there was a second flavour thesaurus, that’s one I need to get Chris.

I just finished reading “The Benevolent Society of Ill-Mannered Ladies” (2023) by Australian author, Alison Goodman. Twin “spinsters” in their forties in Regency England defy the limitations set upon them by society to venture forth in adventure.

The Rossettis book looks gorgeous! I'm intrigued by Greensleeves as I loved The Snowstorm - will try and keep an eye out for it if it's quite hard to get hold of 🙂 I've been reading a lot of Anita Brookner recently which is odd for summer since her books are quite gloomy but I think I might pick up a Miss Read soon for something light. My best friend and I read "You Should Have Known," which you recommended last time. We enjoyed it very much. We read a lot of mysteries. This is more of a psychological thriller.

I used to frequent Much Ado when it was located here in the states, along the north shore in Massachusetts. I remember how sad I was when they closed up shop and hopped across the pond. I’ve seen the movie Goodbye Mr. Chips. It’s the old black and white version from the 30’s. It is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. Have your tissues ready.

really enjoyed this! you might have watched it, but if not, I really recommend the film adaptation of ‘Goodbye Mr. Chips’ (film 1939). One of the script writers is our beloved R.C. Sherriff, so… 💕

Aah Goodbye Mr Chips is one of my favourites and the 1939 film starring Robert Donat is one of the very few films that make me cry. Sheer perfection. Have a wonderful June break.

I've just started Mrs Porter Calling. Light and cosy sound just perfect as I'm recovering from being a bit unwell and have a few busy weeks ahead. A perfect time to curl up with a heartwarming book revisiting well known characters.

Goodbye Mr Chips sounds perfect for September CBC, especially at the start of a new school year. I’m looking forward to it. I’m adding so many of these books to my wants list, including purchasing my own copy of The Blue Castle. I had borrowed the ebook from my library for the club read but I want to add a physical book to my collection. I usually prefer physical books to have, but the one exception is a book I read earlier this year, All the Beauty in the World by Patrick Bringley. He was a museum guard at the NY Met for several years and his story and recollections are so marvelous. I want the hard copy but also the ebook because the ebook I borrowed from the library had links at the back of the book to all of the art works he mentions. With a reread of the physical book and the ebook links ready to hand, I’ll enjoy the next read through even more than my first read of it. I hope you have a wonderful June and especially visit with your dad. You’ll be missed 💕

I would like to read some of the books you are sharing, but most summer is pretty full with the James Harriott book, cozy mystery selection , and finishing The Blue Castle. I'll circle back once those books are finished.
