Happy Thursday everyone! I hope you're having a good week, and that you enjoy this latest cosy vlog. I was definitely inspired by the quote I include in this video with our kitchen adventures: ‘The making of marmalade is one of the
    happy, the exhilarating experiences which
prevent January in the kitchen from being frankly
dull.’ - Marjorie Hessell Tiltman, from 'Cottage Pie'

Donna and Miranda, I enjoyed your sharing of your Commonplace books. So cozy to see you both sitting at your kitchen table, writing in your beautiful books with the fire blazing in the background. I could almost smell the marmalade. Since January 2020 I have been keeping what I called my "Bits and Pieces Journal" where I write down quotes, insights, lists of books I have read and movies I have watched. My favorite little section is "Characters in novels that I admire or feel an affinity with" (not always the main character). It wasn't until watching an earlier video of yours that I realized it was in fact a Commonplace book. I love the practice and it has certainly enriched my life For 2023, I have added "Little Daily Delights" - those small moments in life that bring me joy. Yesterday it was receiving the dress I ordered online for my niece's wedding and discovering it was beautiful and fit to perfection. Today it is watching this lovely video. Thank you!!💕

Dear Miranda, what a wonderful treat this vlog has been. I was so happy and joyful in its anticipation. And when I saw it was 47 minutes long I was so glad. I really love when I see you and your mother interacting you have very kind and friendly personalities. Your friends are very lucky people to have you! I tried the Brusselsprouts salad recipe you shared last week and it tasted delicious. Thank you for that.
I especially liked the beautiful pictures of the frosty countryside. What a heavenly place you live at.
On a sidenote, I just wanted to let you know that yesterday I finally received my books from manderley press which I bought with the gift card I won on your instagram. There had been some trouble with the German postal service. They were so beautifully wrapped, I started right away with 'The Armourer's House'and I love it already.
Thank you so much again for everything! I think I've never found someone as inspiring as you in my life so far and I'm already 51. You show us the beauty of life in all you do and recommend. I think this is so helpful and soothing especially in these somewhat harder times. Thank you for your work I wish you tons of new followers, that's what you deserve! Have a lovely weekend with your mom! Inga

When I was a teenager, I lived and worked for a family at their summer home. There were three of us, ages 15 -17, and we were in charge of cooking and shopping and upkeep. None of us had any real cooking experience. The Joy of Cooking became our Bible. When a neighbor dropped off a bag of beetroots, to the Bible we went. It was my first experience peeling them. Purple from head to toe, I vowed it would be my last. The next time the dreaded roots appeared in the kitchen, I tucked them safely away at the bottom of the garbage bin and snuck to the store for the canned “variety.” Our employer declared it was the best borscht she ever had. I’m sure she would love your marmalade, too! 💜🧡 And the gin. 🥃

I love the idea of a commonplace book, how sweet! I have moved to a list-making app for all of my day book and journaling needs, but everything is sorted by either quote, recipe, journal and not just a jumble by time, which I feel seems a more romantic and nostalgic way to organize! I think I will have to start a new document for this now and record the months as they go and keep these things chronologically, it will be so enlightening when I look back and I suppose I can still separate things into their separate buckets as well! Also, the marmalade looks heavenly!

What an absolute game-changer the ready prepared oranges are 🍊 Very clever. I shall be hanging up my chopping board next January. Stunning frosty images. I used to be a little perturbed I was a January birthday, but I think you've changed my mind. Beautiful frosty mornings, oranges and woodsmoke. What's not to love? xx

Really enjoyed seeing the snowdrops poking up in what is otherwise a rather bleak landscape. Living on the other side of the world & in a different hemisphere,
seeing classic English scenes is wonderful as they are the backdrop of most of my reading !

Miranda what a joy this has been. I use canned pre-prepared marmalade by Lakeland, it is wonderful and I can be sure it sets! I too keep snippets of prose and poetry, helpful sayings, recipes, planting ideas for the garden, places to visit, music I have enjoyed etc sometimes in books and often on pretty notelets which I can pop straight into a rather beautiful box on one of my bookshelves. I started this myself as a way to keep a physical contact with my daughter when I am no longer here. I hope she can feel that I have still things to tell her and be close to her. Thank you for all you share with us.

Another lovely and incredibly cozy video, Miranda! It was such a delight getting to "visit" with you and your dear mom. Watching you make that marmalade reminded me of one thing...Paddington Bear and his extra marmalade sandwich tucked under his hat. ;) What fun! And your commonplace books are just beautiful. I've kept one for nearly five years now and it is quite interesting to look back on and see what spoke to me at different times. It is very much like looking back at old diaries. Thank you for sharing such beauty and inspiration through your videos! Happy weekend to you...keep cozy! ♥

How gorgeous was that priory. I need to go to lots of stately homes and castles this year. I love marmalade. I recently had a marmalade spree in Fortnums, a real treat on toast. I’m now awaiting Donna’s line of candles to come out, starting with Seville orange and woodsmoke.

Another perfect video, thank you. I like the sound of the marmalade - I remember my mum using the very same Ma Made cans when I was small - and my husband likes the sound of the Seville orange gin! I don't drink alcohol but I still might make some for him. Mount Grace Priory looks a lovely place to visit, the ruined part is especially photogenic. I'm adding Wild Places to my ever growing list. MARPLE arrived today, and also Nightwalking, obviously both are your recommendations and I'm really looking forward to both of them. However, I've just started on The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches (very much enjoying it so far) so the former two will have to wait a few days.

I couldn't resist...I bought Wintercombe, I am half way through it and I am absolutely loving it! I read the Christmas scene one cold evening, buried under my blankets and with the dancing flames of a few candles in the background, it was magical! Thank you to you and your mum for such lovely, articulate and inspiring vlogs, it is a pleasure to listen to you both. France is often mentioned in your videos, I wonder what part of it you are familiar with (I was born in Grasse - I know we share a common interest in Fragonard!- and grew up in Toulon). The commonplace books are very interesting because this is how I've approached journaling as I keep appointments and such digitally. The quotes are a very nice touch as so often I find my words aren't adequate and someone else has articulated my thoughts and feelings more eloquently. I will definitely be trying to make the marmalade and I very much enjoyed the whole video
