- In this cozy reading vlog, I'm sharing some small pleasures of January: the first snowdrops, a homemade tonic and a delicious crumble, as well as a great read. Mum and I enjoy a little spontaneous celebration, and I take you round a local Yorkshire village.

RECIPE:
Apple, Mincemeat and Blood Orange Crumble Recipe:
Ingredients:
8oz plain flour
4oz soft brown sugar
3oz butter, cubed
grated zest from 1 blood orange
juice from 2 blood oranges
1lb apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1lb mincemeat
Preheat oven to 165 ° C. Arrange apple slices in a baking dish and cover with the blood orange juice. Spoon the mincemeat over the apples. Make the crumble topping by mixing together the flour and sugar in a large bowl. Then rub in the butter until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Add the grated blood orange zest and mix. Spoon the crumble topping over the fruit mixture, spreading it out with a fork. Bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes until golden brown and bubbling.

met a lovely friend I hadn’t seen for a couple of months while out for a dog walk

My husband laughed when I took home a poinsettia reduced to free after Christmas. I'm happy to say it is alive and well even after it's "season". I have been on a Vanderbeekers journey since the Dec. book club pick. They are just a fun family to follow! Thanks for the great read. I never would have picked up a children's book otherwise.

Thanks for the snowdrops-I have three feet of snow around me and only an old print of a snowdrop- with a background of two Victorian homes-one with a window that has someone peeking from behind a curtain- to look at. Bought it in antique store forty years ago and it is too charming to take down. But have not seen a real snowdrop in my parts until April. Enjoy witnessing the fun you and your Mom have together.

In my part of northeastern Pennsylvania in the US, we won't see them until perhaps late March, but more likely some time in April. Our winters are very long and quite cold. Hello Miranda and Donna. I so enjoyed this video. I have to say that you've inspired me to think about creating a cozy (cosy) home. I am somewhat of a minimalist, but I do think that there is room for me to add some small items and touches to my house. Also, one of my 2023 intentions (or goals) is to do a bit more cooking at home, especially staples such as hummus. It's so easy to make. I want to try a crumble. I need to sort out how to make it vegan, but I am sure that there are many recipes online.
I love these lifestyle videos. I know that these are quite a lot of work for you, but know that we appreciate a peak into the bookish lifestyle. The trip to the small town was a highlight for me!
I'm going to make scones this weekend now! I don't do extreme diet/resolutions in January. I believe everything in moderation, January is a cold month so nice comforting foods for me is a must.
I am really enjoying these new videos you are making. You and your lovely mum really helped me during lockdown, and it is very comforting to have both of you in my life again.

Hi, Miranda, thank you for sharing, I kind of had to ,interrupt' you to have a look for WINTERCOMBE at Amazon … it’s available for 0,99€ on my kindle, although I prefer paper books, but with Kindle I can immediately have a translation, if I don’t know an English word, which happens sometimes. I was intrigued, so I ordered it… and met SILENCE already. These books seem never been translated into German…which is a pity. I interrupted you a second time while you were baking, because I couldn’t believe you put mincemeat (which is minced MEAT for me) together with fruit and enjoy it as a cake😂, don’t worry: I found out, that it is minced dried fruit in alcohol… I’ve a dryer, so I’ve some dried fruit at the end of the winter and will let it be in orange juice a while before trying your recipe, which looks amazing. I learned a lot today…thank you, teacher. I also enjoy the lovely connection between you and your kind mom, so rare… and you even share your passion for reading and flowers and cosy hours! I’ve found the first snow drops in our garden, too. Now I’m waiting for winter aconites… Enough talking, WINTERCOMBE is a big one… especially in a foreign language. Love, Monika❣

Thank you for your book recommendation’Wintercombe’ as I’m fascinated by the Civil War and historical novels. I have visited Great Chalfield Manor and Norton St Philip many times as I lived just outside Bath where also the battle of Lansdown took place. Not only is the house really interesting but the gardens in the Spring and Summer are absolutely stunning!
Many British historical Dramas are filmed here so well worth a visit also there is a very old pub in Norton St Philip which is well worth a visit too.

I do a similar tonic with orange lemon ginger garlic and olive oil which is called a liver cleanse. It tastes ok and seems to ward off the usual cold and flu.
