My dad's favourite player for Birmingham City. He watched him at St, Andrew's many times. I'm sure it would be a sad day for my dad if he was still alive. R.I.P Trevor Francis & John Hoban. ❤
Such a terrible loss of a true gentleman and wonderful footballer. I was lucky enough to see him live at his best. Deepest sympathy to his loved ones, friends, forest fans and bluenoses. RIP Trevor, from a Baggies fan ❤️
As a Villa fan from that era, I was obviously very aware of Trevor Francis, one of the best ever players for our fiercest local rivals. Respect and RIP.
as a villa fan I loved Francis and kept a scrapbook on him when I was a youngster. always felt if England had a manager with big enough balls Francis should've been playing for them as a sixteen year old. rip...walked on water.
Loved this guy. As a teenage Forest fan I was so excited when he signed for us and he didn't disappoint. A gentleman as well as one heck of a striker. RIP.
Villa Fan here, yes its part of my childhood gone today😢. Remember when he broke on the scene at Birmingham. precocious teenage talent scored some fantastic goals in an ordinary side. 1st Million pound player he repaid his fee with the European Cup winner. Really was a tremendous player people forget. Think at the Time Adidas had a Trevor Francis Tracksuit brand. He would be worth an awful lot to-day. One of the few Top English Players who played in Italy at the time when all the Best players in the world were there.
I remember as a kid seeing Francis keep Birmingham City in the old First Division with his goals and Bob Hatton's assists on MOTD every Saturday night. They were an amazing pair. RIP Trevor, a brilliant player.
Long-time Aston Villa fan but now not the time for partisan feelings... Trevor Francis, undoubtedly one of football's all-time greats. I had the great pleasure of a brief encounter with him at Glasgow Airport some thirty or so years ago.... mentioned that l was a Villa fan and he said, smilingly.. "Well we all have our crosses to bear..." Condolences to all those who loved him as a player and a man... such sad news.
Was one of my heroes growing up as a Rangers fan , I later found out he went to school with my uncle , will always have memories of him in that admiral rangers strip , R.I.P TREVOR 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Absolutely heartbroken - my hero when he was at Forest in my youth -1979 European goal was a stormer never forgot - condolences to all his family and friends he lit our lives up….
Sad. R.I.P. Sympathies to family and friends. Was Mcr. City's first £1m player. Was at his City debut at the Victoria Ground, Stoke City, in the top flight. Behind the goal where he scored some goals in the first half that helped Mcr. City win the game. A humble man but pure class on the pitch. A Rolls-Royce of a player. He stood out like a beacon at a young age at St. Andrews playing for Birmingham City. He will be missed. A giant in the game. 🙏😭⚽
My condolences to Trevor Francis’s dear family & friends. I remember when he first came to Sheffield Wednesday under Ron Atkinson & then became player manager. Some great fond & happy memories under his management & an amazing day/win at Wembley in the fa cup semi final against our small rivals! RIP & god bless your soul tricky Trevor 🦉🖤🦉
Sad day. I first remember he scored at 16 for Birmingham. Then that English record 1 million transfer. Superb run to head that Malmö goal. World cup 82, sampdoria transfer. RIP legend.
I saw him once live at Ashton Gate in Bristol as he was a Birmingham player just 18 yrs old. Absolutely brilliant player. In today's money at the same age would be around 100m easily.
Really sad to see. But come on 100M The guy made 50+ appearances for England and scored 12 times. Very pacy player with average first touch and reasonable goal scoring record
met TF when he first signed for Birmingham City,he was in digs at that time, and me and my dad went there to take photos for the blues match day mag.I was 14 at that time, and was absolutely in ore of him.A true blue was TF and a true legend of Birmingham City.
As a Sampdoria fan I am very sad for this lost. He was a noble man, aristocrat. He had an amazing technique. Some years ago he came under our steps to say goodbye to his fans. He was an amazing come back for us, for him, for his wife and son (who said that he never seen supporters like SAMPDORIA fans). Ciao TREVOR! Always in our hearts 💙🤍♥️🖤🤍💙
The most exciting striker I've ever seen. I was among the crowd at the City ground the night he made his comeback after a serious Achilles tendon injury. The main stand was full just to see him, we loved him at Forest. Truly gutted at today's news but the memories are there forever..
Sad news. I remember there was a lot of fuss about him when he was banging in goals left right and centre for Birmingham at age 16. Didn't see much of him then but saw plenty of him later when he played for England and moved to Forest. A great player. RIP.
That Blues team he played in had some great players, as a Villa fan they ruined a few of my weekends but how could you not like Trevor, he was such a nice bloke and an outstanding footballer. Condolences to his family.
I am a sheff wed fan , and as a kid I was playing up at school ... mu grandad had the idea to write to sheff wed and to see if Francis would write me a letter ... so a fews go by and there's a letter with the sheff wed badge on it ... I open it up and there he is is telling me how he'd never sign a player who didn't take school seriously... now as an adult I know that's probably rubbish , but that letter had such an impact on me .... he was a great man ... I know he lost his wife a year or 2 ago and that effected him massively... but I will never forget him ... he took us to 2 cup finals In the same year ... Great player great manager but an ever better bloke ... r.i.p
Birmingham city supporter here, the best to ever wear the famous royal blue shirt. I was born in the early 2000s so I never saw him play but he was still such an icon of the club. One of the best English players to do it.
Trevor Francis was before my time but I do know what a great player he was. Loved him on the Monday night Games too for Sky as co-commentator. RIP from Ireland.
Looked like he was welling up towards the end! Tbh it was so sad to hear & watch it, it made my tear up! Being a blues fan it’s so sad to see this what a legend both as a player & as I person!!
An eloquent and heartfelt tribute by the Sky journalist who clearly knew Trevor Francis a little. It is easy to forget sometimes that football journalists were fans first and had their heroes. Trevor had a great club career and also played 53 times for England which is often overlooked. I remember his classy finish vs Czechoslovakia in the 1982 World Cup. RIP Trevor. Never forgotten
R.I.P Trevor totally shocked to hear this sad,sad news a humble man total respect 👏🙏 also let's pray for Trevor's wife and family for strength at this sad time from a LEEDS UNITED supporter 🤝👏🙏 Utmost respect for a skillful player one of the best ✊
An iconic player ,saw all his career at Blues in the seventies, sadly most of his goals were not on film, but luckily being a home and away fan i saw most of them,-a sad day for all Bluenoses,-and other fans too,-RIP Trevor -KRO
Saw Trevor Francis play for Birmingham against my team Ipswich at my first ever football match in 1978. B'ham lost 5-2 but Francis scored both goals. Sad day for a great footballer. RIP Trevor Francis.
I’m a lifelong Spurs fan ..what an amazing player Trevor Francis was ..everyone no matter who you support was aware of his talent..a true Gentleman too RIP.

Not what I heard ? Heard he was a rather unpleasant person and up himself .
Trevor Francis you were a proper football player and we will never forget you...from a Rangers fan. ♥️
