How to Connect a DJI RC 2 Controller to an iPad Pro Over HDMI to act as a LARGE Second Screen

- In this video I'll show you a cheap and easy way to connect the new DJI RC 2 controller to an iPad Pro acting as a second large screen.
Use Cases:
This can be very useful if you yourself just want a larger preview of what your taking video or photos of, you may have a person with you who wants to see the action as well. Its all about choice.
8 times out of 10, I'd probably just throw the drone and controller in my bag, but sometimes I might want to make sure I'm getting a perfect shot. How you use it, is up to you, I'm just showing you how to do it.
This should also work with Android tablets, you just need to find an app that supports UVC video catpure on the Google Play Store and from I could see, there are lots available. One called USB Camera stood out and was often used with UVC video capture cables.

So I have a Manfrotto x190 tripod which has a mid point 3/4 mounting thread, so I needed

I used a "FOTOBETTER Aluminum iPad Holder for Tripod Mount, Universal Phone Tablet Clamp Tripod Adapter Bracket with Cold Shoe Mount 1/4" Screw and Acra Swiss"

But be aware, the HeiyRC rear adapter supplied as part of this lanyard, is for the original RC1 controller and DJI in their infinite wisdom changed the screw hole spacing between the RC1 and RC2 controllers, so I've drilled a small hole in the supplied rear HeiyRC adapter and it fits perfectly. This is one of the few rear RC adapters that provide a 1/4 thread, rather than just a hook. Perfect for tripod mounting the RC2 to a tripod.
HeiyRC do have a RC2 specific version that appears to fit both the RC1 and RC2, but as of writing, its only on available on AliExpress.

I was disappointed that my mini 4 pro won’t work with my rc pro as I have hdmi on it and could also have a wireless link to a tablet but this has just put a little smile on my face ! Thanks

This works with both Type C to Type C display and Type C to HDMI , I plugged a Type C to Type C into the RC 2 and to my monitor and it works , the same worked when I plugged a Type C to HDMI out , that worked too

Yeah its pretty cool, as long as you have that controller, you can connect to ANY extremal monitor, I connect mine Via USB C to an external portable monitor that also has usb C and it works great! :)

I just bought a DJI Drone Mini pkg and it came with the RC 2. So I can use a mini C / HDMI connector and hook the RC 2 directly to the HDTV TV HDMI input? I want to use it for roof and chimney inspection after storms come through.
Interesting. maybe not for my Mini 3 Pro though. Might be difficult to manage all that on location? Could be useful for your spotter to see what's going on if the cable is long enough. A very nice share!

Very cool - the bigger the screen the better while in flight. I live near a river and have horses and it's dang near impossible to see the animals or things on the river until you can view it on a nice computer screen. I guess at some point it becomes a bit cumbersome through. Good work.

Yeah it’s not for taking out in the field everytime, I usually throw things in a bag and go, but occasionally I do need this sort of setup, especially if other people are involved, the use cases are different and I get a lot of people won’t see any value. I used to fly my old Phantom 4 Pro all the time like this, and yes it took about 10 mins to setup with a tripod etc. again appreciate you stopping by to watch

Going from usb c to hdmi and then from hdmi to usb c with a different adapter seems a little moot.
If the manufacturers have it designed like that one needs to ask the question why…

Great idea! Also, instead of connecting into ipad, another option is to use so called filed monitor with 1200 nits britness, sun hoods, tripod mount and lut support. Or connect right into FPV googles with nice OLED screens and enjoy even better flight experience.

@@JV-fu8br Nothing will work with older RC, however if you have RC2 or RC pro with hdmi out, you could connect any google that support hdmi IN.
@@EdgarSnowSki I have used my Fatshark Dominator goggles for my Dji Inspire 1 by connecting a mini HDMI cable (hdmi mini on both ends) to controller and to the Fatshark it works perfect but on the RC2 theres no hdmi output how can i make this work?? The Fatsharks i believe are analog...?

I have to ask, what tri-pod are you using?
I have a 75 inch smart tv that I thought if I could put my controller on that screen I could see the final product on the screen I’m going to watch on. I see so much more detail of the forest floor on the big screen but I can’t see it in real time. I thought about attaching the RC to my iPad and then screen mirror my tv but I wonder if you could directly attach the tv. I have large windows in my family room that I can still maintain line of sight. Haha it’s cold out there. lol

This is a fantastic idea, and I will use it with my search and rescue team. I do need a little help to get it working if you have some time. Frankly, if anybody knows how I would greatly appreciate your assistance. I loaded the mentioned software. I have the pad pro 12 inch and I have the mini four pro. I ordered the w Ugreen cables off the Internet. I can’t seem to get a reaction at all on my iPad. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kent/Montana.

From what I've just read/researched it should work, you would use something like an app called "USB Capture" on the android device and then use the two cables I show in the video from the bottom of the RC2. (USB-C to HDMI and HDMI UVC Video Capture -> USB-C)

Hello, you don’t need to enable anything, the output is automatic on the Rc2. Sometimes the order you start or plug things in results in no signal, but usually unplugging the usbc and re plugging it in, your good to go

Yes it’s only acting as a monitor.

this is what I wanted to do, but whith a dji raveneye. Didn`t work. I bought a usb c to hdmi female adapter 4k 60hz in ali express. I tested it connecting it to a mobile phone with usb c, and it worked. but when i conect it to the rc2 usb c, dont get any signal.
I use a 10-inch Samsung Galaxy (Android) as my monitor for my DJI Air 2 works rather well. Just have to buy an adopter.
I have a Galaxy Tab S7+ and can confirm this setup works on it
