    FYI, fueling the truck is an on duty function. You are not off duty when you fuel.

    • @TrucknOutTheBox
      @TrucknOutTheBox  2 года назад +3

      sometimes we gab something to eat when we fuel or take restroom breaks. so we go off duty. doesn't save much time but it all adds up. thank you tho bro

    • @texgarcia1958
      @texgarcia1958 2 года назад +5

      But you need to be on duty when. Fueling. If they look at a week and you never show on duty Fueling they will pop you for falsifying your log entries. They could take you oos.
      I usually pull up and fuel on duty. When I am done fueling I switch to off duty personal conveyance and move the truck into parking lot. Then I stay regular off duty and grab a bite to eat, take a shower, or whatever I need to do. I agree the time adds up. However, if they figure out you are fueling while off duty it can go backwards on you pretty quickly.

    This was very helpful. Regarding the ELD - Is it 11 hours per person? If I wanted to run my truck 11 hours during the day and lets say 5 hours at night with 2 (1 covering the day and 1 covering the night) different people is that ok? Does the ELD allow you to have multiple accounts or do we need to buy 2 ELDs? Hope that makes sense.

    Its 11 hours drive time,

  • @forwardthinkingtrucker
    @forwardthinkingtrucker 2 года назад +12

    The law is once you're on duty.... YOU'RE ON DUTY! Quit logging in and out. They'll shut you down. That is against the law. Only thing you should do is take yourself off of driving mode, but leaving yourself on duty. You guys need to get familiar with what the actual laws are before spreading this kinda information. So once you log in you have a non-stop 14 hour clock. Nothing stops that clock(NOTHING!) You're allowed to drive up to 10:59 during that 14:00 clock. So you basically get 3 hrs to load, unload, 15 minute Pre-Trip, 15 minute post-trip and fuel up per shift. Nothing more nothing less. The other time is what you're allowed to drive. But that running 14 hour clock once it starts CAN NOT BE STOPPED

    • @TrucknOutTheBox
      @TrucknOutTheBox  2 года назад +6

      our clock says 12 hours instead of the 14 you say? any idea why? also we never "log out" but we do take ourselves off driving mode whenever were not moving or whenever were not en route to the destination. please tell us more we accept all feedback especially from more experienced drivers, thank you a lot

    • @forwardthinkingtrucker
      @forwardthinkingtrucker 2 года назад +11

      @@TrucknOutTheBox you must have your profile under a single states laws. If you're going traveling across state lines then you immediately fall under the Federal Carrier laws which is a 14 hour work day with 11 hours of driving. And you must take a 30 minute break before the 8 hours of being logged in to be in complanice. If you have been in a single state for 7 consecutive days/been back to that state for 7 consecutive days after coming off the road then and only then can you run under that state's laws. I'm from Texas. Here we have a 15 hour work day with a 12 hour drive schedule, but I can't run under the Texas law until I have been back in the State for 7 straight days to run under that law. Until I reach those 7 days even though I'm back in the state I would still fall under the Federal laws of 14 hour days with 11 hours being allocated to driving

    • @forwardthinkingtrucker
      @forwardthinkingtrucker 2 года назад +5

      Change your guidelines to OTR. I know you have to log a certain state but once you leave out of that state even for only 1 mile then you're subject to the Federal Carrier laws. Also if you're using paper logs you have to ALWAYS log your time according to the state your company is based out of, and no matter what time zone you're in. If you mess this up while in a different time zone then you're not in complanice

I better know these laws and I do know them. I just don't want want anyone coming out here getting jammed up over small stuff. And trust logging out while being loaded/unloaded while get you shut down with the quickness. The right DOT Officer catch you slipping and they'll go all the way back through your logs and cite you for every infraction, and then add the hours up and put you out of service for that many hours. Always do a 15 min Pre-Trip and a 15 min Post-trip DAILY. Them small things will destroy you

      It's called short haul exemption. Basically you are exempt from a log book. So by association you are exempt from the E log as well. However, you still need a form of record keeping for your time. And there are a couple other rules you must follow to be in compliance.

      If you drive 6 hours, you have 5 hours left. If you go off Duty for 2-3 hours, you can use the split clock to complete the 5 hours after which you must be in sleeper mode for 8-7 hours, not moving at all to remove any violation if you go over the 14hr standard clock. NB: The bigger portion of the split has to be in sleeper and you cannot move the truck.
