Ustaad is a title given to the Teacher if the person is from a Muslim Background... And when the teacher is a Hindu... Then we call them Pandits.
Pandit means "Master", teacher means Guru. It's like having a masters degree in the days of yore.
@@lordmorklen5166 it all depends on the context... We consider our Gurus /teachers to be Masters of their crafts .... thats why we call them PANDITS or USTAADS.. which are essentially the same word... Pandit is Hindi/Sanskrit... Ustaad is Urdu

A better way to explain it I think is to tell them to say it like a Spanish word. It's said "kaalé" (काळे), "kaalay" is a slightly different sound. Since they live in LA they probably know basic Spanish.

lol it's funny how they say it like kale the cabbage 😂 No one explained to them before, they just didn't know. It's harder for English speakers. Even a Spanish speaker would instinctively say it the right way, but for English speakers such a word is instinctively said "kail".

'Kaaley' with the 'l' in Marathi pronunciation not existing in English. It means black unless it has one more meaning.

Actually the spelling is not conducive for the correct pronunciation. Bhide -- actually should be pronunced Bheeday another surname mispronounced.

I would suggest you to take interview of Mahesh kale, include kaushiki who can ask Mahesh questions about difficulties and technicalities of indian classical music.

Mahesh Kale is a teacher, he lives in San Fransisco Bay Area. Generally he has a tight schedule, he travels back and forth from India to the US for his concerts and other commitments, but never skips teaching his students.
Secondly, Korbin spoke so much about music today than Rick which usually is vice versa. I like that :)

This composition is based on Raaga AHIR BHAIRAV of Indian classical music. This is a early morning raag. If u listen to this raag between 8am to 10am ur day goes very well. Try to hear different versions of AHIR BHAIRAV. U will definitely enjoy it.

Its African percussion instrument djembe ( pronounced as Jembe), he did not choose what his father Ustad Allah Rakha and brother Ustaad Zaakir Hussain i.e Tabla. He chose and mastered another percussion instrument and is now highly recognised and revered.

Both the instruments played in this video were not Indian. One was Saxophone played by Shamrajji a veteran of Indian bollywood SAXOPHONE & another was African Jembe. The person playing Jembe was Ustad Zakir Husain’s brother Taufic Kureshi. He has devoted himself to Jembe.
Mahesh Kaale was singing a famous film cinema song based on Rag Ahir Bhairav. Yes the Raga is usually sung to Praise lord Shiva & hence you feel the devotion and the cry in Mahesh’ heart wrenching sound.

This is a paaramparik Bandish in raag Ahir Bhairav. The raag is exceptionally beautiful. IMHO, one of the best renditions of this raag is by Pt Bhimsen Joshi and Pta Kishori Amonkar. 🙏

What a goosebump performance. Would confess I didnt saw or was not aware of this performance and these legends and thts very disappointing. And Thanks to OSR because of them I have been exposed to so many talents in last 1 year which otherwise I wouldnt have noticed. Ustad Taufiq ji is Ustad Zakir Hussain's real brother. The person on Soprano (almost same like Saxophone) is a legend in himself and has performed with R.D. Burman and his name is Shamraj! I am lucky to have seen them performing live!!!

Ustad-pandit etc are titles earned my musicians and singers after they master any instrument or singing etc. I think there are exams so that you are awarded those titles
The percussion instrument is called Jembe, It's an African instrument. Other one looks a mix of saxophone and clarinet.
