Geoff is the bass for VoicePlay, and everything they do is a cappella except for when Layne breaks out his violin occasionally. But all of Geoff’s individual work has instruments as far as I know.
The original version of this with Tennessee Ernie Ford was great, telling the story of coal miners stuck in a company town, in perpetual debt to the company, trapped. I now think this is the definitive version of this song. Hard to imagine anyone doing it better or with more style.
Another excellent reaction to my favorite bass singer! Geoff (pronounced Jeff) is such an incredible talent as well as his group, VoicePlay. Looking forward to more reactions from these talented artists!
F#1 is his lowest chest note and he is still chest connected (starting to get into head voice) up to B4 (unreal chest range), with his falsetto extending to A5. His total range using extended techniques is A0-A5.
You must listen to his newest - it's completely different than both of these. Till Then, a song from the Mills Brothers, 1944, sung by a man going off to war and leaving his love behind. It's gorgeous!

This one gets a lot of attention but one of my favourites is his Shenandoah. Just beautiful. and for a solo performance, without his "clones", High and Dry.
