Don’t you just love that smug smile just before Geoff bombs us with a ridiculously low note? I also REALLY love that drawn out B0 sub. There are a couple times when he floats up a bit, can’t decide whether it’s a wobble or intentional (seems more likely intentional towards the end because it harmonizes well). But controlling a super-low sub that long can’t be easy. And don’t you just love the added dimension when J sings with these guys? Something about his voice and his vibe-they just feel complete with him. And his presentation of that rap section-so good. Cesar-it seems to me he has a very different vocal timbre from song to song-and here from solo to solo. We’ve heard that sweet innocent breathy voice a lot of times, more of a wail in Wicked and the short cover of Crazy, but this is the first time we’ve heard that fierce, throaty, gritty (no better word) sound. And the acting-he usually presents a really mellow, gentle vibe, but here I could imagine him throwing down-and winning, just because he won’t hold back. Seems like he’s just always all in, every song, whatever they need. Eli-I’m less surprised this time that he’s a convincing, scary Viking and rock god, but still super impressed. Layne-OMG. He’s just slaying it this year. We’re getting to hear him sing more, he’s crushing the beat-boxing, and his arrangements!
With Cesar, especially, I just keep thinking back to Nothing Else Matters where for the majority of the song he sits so still in one position, barely moving......and then this. He definitely goes all in and compliments the mood of the song no matter what it is. ☺
@@katthor7311 I’ve wondered a few times whether he is holding back more than he would like. As if he’s dying to bust a move or something but can’t because it wouldn’t work in the overall production. I have no idea how old he is, but I get a sense of youthful exuberance. LOL.
@@lkayh I definitely agree about Cesar. He's a much better actor than most of Voiceplay's videos ask for. I loved his gritty (yet, at the end, eternally sassy) viking - comes to remind us not to typecast them 😅
Geoff hits a low note - Jen starts to giggle 😄 and immediately I'm thinking that Jen and The Charismatic Voice should do a joint reaction and analysis to a VoicePlay or Geoff Castellucci song - it would be one big giggle-feast ❤
I actually LOVE it when the Charasmatic Voice giggles. It's as though she got poked in the gut "Pillsbury Dough Boy Style." ❤❤❤❤ 6:22 That said....I'm always here for Jen's bass. ❤❤❤
Layne did the arrangement and Eli the amazing backgrounds. It was filmed, not green screen, but at a studio with immense (Full wall!) LED screens. Unfortunately, the guys were in leather and furs and the air-conditioning was not working.🥵 In My Mother Told Me Eli was a beserker. He obviously has recruited the whole group now. Even Cesar was scary. The makeup and a lot of the costuming is from MMTM. Among their tattoos are runes spelling out VoicePlay. I really like that J began staring out across the water and came in later like he was returning home to his family of VoicePlay. The music in the outro is the karaoke track. The percussion and background vocals could be a piece on its own because it’s so gorgeous.
The early part with J on his own may have been filmed later - apparently his flight from Washington to Orlando was 3 hours late, Kathy had to pick him up from the airport - then after this he had to fly back for a wedding!!
This one is just outstanding. I have to say that Layne sneaks stuff in. The weird noises and the fills, caught them all. But I have to remind myself EVERY TIME, that when J None goes crashing through that wooden door and creaks as it shuts behind him - that's Layne. And when I say every time, I have to have watched this 100 times since it came out on Patreon. All the costumes and "tattoos" are replicated from My Mother Told Me. Great reaction, Jen, as always!!
From one Jen to another ... you are one of my favourite analysers / reactors, and a wonderful artist in your own right. I rarely stop smiling when watching you. Your enthusiasm, knowledge and infectious reactions are a wonder to behold ... Great on any analysis, but add those to a Geoff or Voiceplay vid and that truly makes my day 😊 Thank you!!
I love the costuming, makeup that set this up. And then the intensity with great diction just starts the goosebumps! What a production with amazing voices-love these guys!!
1 ) I love how they have re-created their characters from "My Mother Told Me". 2 ) This is the second most intimidating Cesar has been, second to "Hoist the Colors" 3 ) I still say J None's voice has matured tremendously, with a lot more character and power than he had when he was a regular. His time apart has done him well.
I usually pick a favorite from each video but there was NO way to do that this time. Layne's killer arrangement and percussion, Cesar channeling his inner warrior, Eli the rock god and his amazing technical work on this video, J rapping his heart out, and Geoff the earthquake god with THREE B0s, the first one lasting 15 seconds! VoicePlay+Viking=EPIC! Even Miracle of Sound agrees--they reached out to VP and gave them a 10 out of 10 for their cover of this Assassin's Creed theme. I've been a fan a long time, but I still forget sometimes they're a cappella. Man, I love these guys!
I knew you were going to love this song and video!! They out do themselves every time! I cannot stop watching this, it is amazing!! That first B0 Geoff hits lasts for 15 seconds!! Then Eli has become the Asgardian god of rock, Layne is a beatboxing god, Cesar has become a Berserker, and J None has shown us the rap indeed belongs in acapella! Great reaction!
Awesome reaction as usual, Jen. And that was a very impressive B1 you executed to brilliantly at 6:23. I just love these videos, even though I have to put up with listening to the artists and listen to you natter on and on about what they're doing waiting for your brilliant and lovely low notes. 🤭🤭🤭. Seriously, though, you bring so much to my experience because you bring out things that I wouldn't see or hear. Love, love, love your reactions!
Really like your analysis, both vocals and rythmics. Like your non-verbal reactions of surprise on some of those runs too. You've got a beautiful artistic intellect, in addition to your charisma/presence. Also love the British accent. Keep up the good work, from a fan living near Montreal, Quebec.
It's the song Miracle of Sound made for the video game Assassin's Creed Valhalla. The J-None solo near the end was added by Voiceplay. Great reaction and analysis as always Jen 😊And it is a song about Vikings, hence the 'anger' in Cesar's voice and the high testosterone levels, lol.
Thank you young lady for a very entertaining yet knowledgeable reaction. You always bring joy to an older man's face 😊,again you have my sincerest thanks, blessings to you and your family

Jennifer! Well I knew I'd be late this time. Wow ... LOTS of chances for low note practice here! You did take the bait a couple of times I noticed. 😁 I feared for your mic a few times when you mimicked those fierce gestures. 😅 And I saw what you did there at 15:25, talking about the "bell effect" in the music and concurrently popping the little notification bell reminder on the screen. Nice touch! This one didn't disappoint. Great reaction and analysis as always Jennifer! 😊
I love that this group is perfectly at home in so many places. They fit just as well on Broadway as they do in a Viking fiord. Just amazing! Great analysis, Jen! ❤ I had a blast watching you experience this one!
Hey Jen, you referrenced some of the mouth placements of Geoff on his lowest notes on this song... specifically those side/cheek pulls. You'll catch this technique with Tim Foust too. Check out the similarity between their mouth placement when Tim sings the lowest verse on Folsom Prison Blues and Geoff's side smile.
I have been waiting to hear (and see because that is always delightful) your reaction on this one. Tbh I thought it would break you more 🤪 though the “marv… marve… splendidly” was just too precious. Your expression and “I wasn’t expecting this…” was awesome. I think no one was ready for J None to rap. I’m wondering if you’d classify some of Cesar’s notes as gritty; it does feel like it to me but I’m no expert. Definitely felt the berserker in him for this one. It feels like he really showed something different. Thank you again for your analysis. It’s always entertaining and educational to watch you. Have a lovely weekend.
This cover really gets your blood pumping. I ended wanting to work out or something. This would be great to have at a gym on repeat. I loved that they sped up the tempo, the original is a tad slower.
They’re truly wonderful at their craft and the amount of detail they go into not only with their vocals but the their costumes and backgrounds is absolutely amazing. How do they keep outdoing themselves?!!!
I'm so happy I found your channel! I feel like a lot of vocalist reactions don't go this in depth and I love how you pick the piece appart and analyze how well it all works together. I adore Voiceplay and am excited to nerd out with you ^^
I just love watching your expressions when you aare reacting to VP, Ptx & Home Free. Bcoz you provide such juicy commentary, I don't see how you could possibly be really enjoying the experience of the beauty & flow of these masterpieces! So i would hope that you play the song (at least) one more time when the camera is off! And THAT would be a pleasure to watch - like if i was literally a fly on the wall! Lol!
Amazing as always, my dear!!! I'm sure it's already well on your radar, but I have to let you know about Geoff Castellucci's "Man of Constant Sorrow" that dropped yesterday and cannot WAIT to see your analysis!!
I’ve always thought of Valhalla as the Vikings’ heaven but it’s much more intricate than that: “It is described as a majestic hall located in Asgard and presided over by the god Odin. Half of those who die in combat enter Valhalla, while the other half are chosen by the goddess Freyja to reside in Fólkvangr. The masses of those killed in combat (known as the Einherjar) along with various legendary Germanic heroes and kings, live in Valhalla until Ragnarök when they will march out of its many doors to fight in aid of Odin against the jötnar.” So the warriors are preparing for battle knowing they may be slain but offered rewards in the afterlife.
I'm not really a 'Viking fan', but with Voice Play I can't help but appreciate the vocal mastery of this one. There is so much variety and the excellent diction, etc...and rhythm! Loved your reactions as usual!!
I decided to watch all reactors to this song. The ones that know more about music stop most often, sometimes on each phrase. This is masterful. To me, Cesar was the star. One of his phrases sends chills down me every time I hear it. Geoff's long B0 at the beginning was insane.
I really love the line where he’s gritty and ends the line with plucks the strings of destiny. There’s just something about the way he sings destiny that gives me the shivers.
Something I noticed with Eli's high solo. He's maintaining the sound by really widening and focusing on vowel shapes. Enough diction to let us understand what he's saying but those vowels are his focus, nice and open and supported, letting those notes ring clear.
The guys are wearing the same face paint and similar if not the same clothing as in My Mother Told Me. Cesar wasn't in that video but he's wearing the same hooded cloak Jose Rosario had in the previous video. This one is more them preparing for battle, working themselves into berserker mode, especially Cesar and Eli.
I had been waiting for your reaction and was not disappointed. Thank you for, once again, making us pay attention to the intricacies of the arrangement and performance instead of staring at Geoff's sly smile the entire time 😅 is it me, or did he look at the camera pretty much the whole song? 😂
Thank you for another great reaction to Voice Play. Miracle Of Sound messaged Voice Play and said ( well done lads. Definitely one of the more creative covers I've heard. I rate it 10 raised alehorns out of 10 ). The air conditioner wasn't working in the studio they were recording in. They were sweating so much with those heavy costumes they were wearing. That is true dedication. I love Cesar cutting loose. Layne is the best ever. Geoff going subterranean. Eli the rock God. I usually love J. None but not the rap.
I would love to see you react to the original version by Miracle of Sound! He has a vast repertoire of original songs in all kinds of different styles and his stuff is very unique! I actually thought your attempts to make some of those beatboxing sounds were very good! I love the way VoicePlay and Pentatonix sing with their hands in a lot of their videos, if you know what I mean. The little gestures that mirror what they're doing vocally.
I couldn't pick a fav in this, every one of the shined in so many ways. I loved the original, loved Peyton Parish's cover and now love this. All three are on my play list!
All of them were incredible, but I especially loved 'fierce Cesar'! He doesn't get a chance to show his power that often. And even Layne managed to add some grit to his usually sweet, mellow tone during his solo! Eli's verse a couple octaves over everyone else just awed (someone said he was hitting an F5 on the last chord). And of course, Geoff ... well, he Geoffed. Nuff said.
Eli was hitting an F#5 on the last chord (Considering the arrangement is in B minor). It's layered over his B4, so you actually hear two Eli's on the last chord 😄
Im fan of bass voices, and music in general, too And let me say your vlice and diction are lovely. I would pass a entire day listening you speaking. And your tone when singing are so pretty. I hope you upload a video of yours singing perhaps the other song of this kind, or even rock/metal song
I love your reactions and analysis stuff Jenn and I really enjoy your own singing , sorry i'm boring lol, ok not THAT sorry, everything has your wonderful personality shining , through and you can feel the love you have for what you do, don't ever change please!!
I love watching your Voiceplay reactions! You and my brother have the same responses to Geoff's voice 🤣 I highly recommend Miracle of Sound, the original artist for this song! "Show Your Style" and "A Dog's Life" are my two favourite songs of his :D
This actually made having a cold more enjoyable this weekend, because I was _almost_ able to sing along with Geoff's non-sub parts. I say "almost" because I could still only hit G1 rather than F#1, but that's lower than I can usually get with any accuracy or body to the sound. I'm trying to follow Tim's advice to focus on my higher end, but Geoff keeps sucking me in...
When you are thinking about the difference between Geoff’s chest voice and sub-harmonics look over at what Peter Barber’s reaction. He focuses a lot on Geoff every time. He says that the first F#1 is actually his chest voice, and one of his first in chest. 5:54
Are you going out later to slay a dragon? I always enjoy your videos Jenn. You are very entertaining. Here's an idea for a video somewhere down the road, "If Only" by Hiss, Alexinho, River and Colaps. It's a very cool performance by 4 beatboxers that go beyond what one might think. Do the official video. Even if you don't want to do a video on that, check it out on your own sometime, it's great. Have a great day and thanks for your efforts making these videos.
Oh hell... it is you again... ( I orbit the internet, so it is surprising that i find the same planet twice) ... Omg jenn.. i love your world darling!! ♥♥
Jen, love your channel, great breakdowns, 1 note: compression is your friend. You seem to be accidently overdriving your mic, give yourself some headroom, and use your eq, your audio will thank you, as will your audience. Keep up the great work! T
You described his voice as angry but seemed to be looking for another word. I think DRIVEN would be appropriate as the entire song is about heading to war. I like your reviewing, it’s not over cluttered, yet is quite inclusive. Thank you
Think of this as 'My Mother Told Me' 2.0....lol....Layne is wearing same outfit, Eli also, now he has his beard,.....J.None's facial tattoos are the same....it is said that all the Viking Runes on their faces and arms spell out VoicePlay.......like in golden hour video 'Stimmel Spiel'....name of the toy store, is German for "VoicePlay".......>^^

I'm not really a 'Viking fan', but with Voice Play I can't help but appreciate the vocal mastery of this one. There is so much variety and the excellent diction, etc...and rhythm! Loved your reactions as usual!!
Mind blowing! Vocal audio wizards!
can't wait for you to see geoff's new one it's awesome
I could not wait for you to hear Eli in this 🥵 so powerful!
Thanks! I really wanted to see what you thought about this one. SO many good moments!!
Wonderful video, love your reactions. Congratulations on 90,000 subscribers! Looking forward to 100K!
I've been waiting for your take in this one 😊
I decided to watch all reactors to this song. The ones that know more about music stop most often, sometimes on each phrase. This is masterful. To me, Cesar was the star. One of his phrases sends chills down me every time I hear it. Geoff's long B0 at the beginning was insane.
I really love the line where he’s gritty and ends the line with plucks the strings of destiny. There’s just something about the way he sings destiny that gives me the shivers.
@@janetdw That is the line I like the best. Shiver down my spine every time.
I just love when you give “stank face” as Geoff sings in his boots 😂. What a fun reaction!
Something I noticed with Eli's high solo. He's maintaining the sound by really widening and focusing on vowel shapes. Enough diction to let us understand what he's saying but those vowels are his focus, nice and open and supported, letting those notes ring clear.
Hi Jennifer hope you are having an great and awesome weekend ❤
Awesome reaction as always Jen.
Amazing! Thank you, Jen! 🤗
VP has gotten so good!!! Appreciate you Jen!!! Be Safe
I had been waiting for your reaction and was not disappointed. Thank you for, once again, making us pay attention to the intricacies of the arrangement and performance instead of staring at Geoff's sly smile the entire time 😅 is it me, or did he look at the camera pretty much the whole song? 😂
love the Lavander nails kiddo, glad to have found you, awesome content.
Voice play reaction - check
Jen tongue tied - yup!
So, when do we get to see Viking Jen?
8:40 That gremlin laugh😂
Yes, that G0 goes for about 15 seconds *maniacal giggle*
Its already at 91.8 K!!! YAY!!!
😁😁
The absolutely most common uttering from any reactors I've seen to this: 'I wasn't expecting this!' as JNone starts rapping. No exception here, Jen 😄
Snarl is the word you are seeking. Valhalla Calling me.
100K is just around the corner which Should Be ONE MILLION ##$$$&&#.
B0 held for 15 seconds :D
I think he hops up to an E1 briefly at the "verdant plains" line
I would love to see you react to the original version by Miracle of Sound! He has a vast repertoire of original songs in all kinds of different styles and his stuff is very unique!
I actually thought your attempts to make some of those beatboxing sounds were very good!
I love the way VoicePlay and Pentatonix sing with their hands in a lot of their videos, if you know what I mean. The little gestures that mirror what they're doing vocally.
I couldn't pick a fav in this, every one of the shined in so many ways. I loved the original, loved Peyton Parish's cover and now love this. All three are on my play list!
Yes. Love Miracle of Sound. Gavin does some really great music. Been listening to his stuff since his 2nd album came out.
It's layered over his B4, so you actually hear two Eli's on the last chord 😄
i hear´d that at the first time. If u can sing acapella like this, wow it´s incredeblle ! soo cool :)
Im fan of bass voices, and music in general, too
And let me say your vlice and diction are lovely. I would pass a entire day listening you speaking. And your tone when singing are so pretty. I hope you upload a video of yours singing perhaps the other song of this kind, or even rock/metal song
Voice play have reprised their characters from “My Mother Told Me” touch of class!!
You and my brother have the same responses to Geoff's voice 🤣
I highly recommend Miracle of Sound, the original artist for this song! "Show Your Style" and "A Dog's Life" are my two favourite songs of his :D
They are amazing, I can’t lie
this song and oogy boogy are both FULL SEND performances
Please please analyze Geoff’s cover of “man of constant sorrow”
Till Valhalla now the path has been cleared
Jen, love your channel, great breakdowns, 1 note: compression is your friend. You seem to be accidently overdriving your mic, give yourself some headroom, and use your eq, your audio will thank you, as will your audience. Keep up the great work!
T
You must do a reaction to Geoff's newest solo cover.. Man Of Constant Sorrow. We get 5 Geoff's with this one.
He sustained that B0 subharmonic for 15 secs
Omg you got to react to the miracles sound while calling featuring Eric Holloway you will be blown away
Hey, Ms. Glatzhofer or may I refer to you as Jennifer or Jen for short? I am in awe of your expertise in criticizing groups and specific vocalists in particular. Combined with Ms. Zharoff from Charismatic Voice it is a full meal for me!❤️🦬♊
I think Jennifer can be a good beatboxer, she makes different sounds so good and so clear. :-)
When I tell you I literally fell out of my chair the first time I experienced this video. WHAT DO YOU MEAN GEOFF HELD A B0 SUB FOR FIFTEEN SECONDS!?!?!? HOW? WHAT ARE YOU? HOW DOES ONE OBTAIN THIS POWER?
Low voice, subharmonics and a lot of preparation
I always enjoy your reactions. If you don't get tongue tied or stumble over your words at least once, were you even paying attention?! Lol. Miracle of Sound rated this cover as 10 raised alehorns out of 10. I definitely agree!
