if they looked sweaty it was with good reason they’re filming in Florida and the air conditioning broke down. And yes they do as much as possible themselves. Layne arranged this one and Eli did a lot of the virtual backgrounds and lighting. They are simply amazing 🏴
I feel a little bad you watched Vahalla Calling before watching their My Mother Told Me video (it's 2 or 3 years old but, if you watch it, you'll understand why. Note: it was before J.None left voiceplay to serve in the army and before Cesar join in.)
Hot yes. The AC had broken down in the place they were filming in. That wasn't the only problem they had. J/None was flying in to do this and his plane was three hours late. But that's life in VoicePlay. You suck it up and get on with it. :) Yes they're independent. If you watch earlier videos y ou can see how much they've improved, how much more professional they have become, since gaining all the patrons they have now. And no it's said as Jeff, as you previously thought. Eli is pronounced as elly (short for Eliezer). Cesar has never looked so fierce. :)
Yes, Kathy (Geoff's wife) had to pick him up at the airport, so I suspect that the parts where he is on his own were filmed after the rest - then he had to rush back to Washington to go to a wedding!

Thanks for your reaction- I knew you would love Voice Play's cover of this song! I agree with the other comments about reacting to Voice Play's "My Mother Told Me" and "Hoist The Colors".
There is no denying that Voice Play adds their own spin to it, but this is a cover from Gavin Dunne (Aka 'Miracle Of Sound'), a composer, performer and one-man recording studio. He does a lot of video-game inspired songs as well as some based on Irish / Celtic folk lore. If you liked this you might check out one of his more recent uploads, 'Skal!' (in either acoustic or metal versions).
VoicePlay does nothing but covers (afaik) and they pull off whatever they do with amazing creativity and style! I never used to like covers till I discovered these guys (and some other aca groups)
Geoff hit a B0 3 times in this one. Voiceplay can do any genre, hard rock, metal, Disney, showtunes, comedy, tragedy. Literally, anything. There are a couple of reactors who try to analyze eveything in a Voiceplay video,. One goes an hour to an hour and a half, and acknowledges that he hasn't noticed everything. For this one, during the patron scroll, they were playing the karaoke track that they create for patrons. Since there was no melody playing, we could hear the backup vocals more clearly. Absolutely beautiful. For a change of pace, I'll recommend that you react to their Little Mermaid Medley (comedy) and I Can't Make You Love Me (tragedy). Really enjoying your reactions!!
You're talking about #davidkreacts, right? I know it'll probably be a while before he's able to get to this, but I think it may be one of his longest yeet, lol, and I'm here for it! I've learned a lot about music theory by watching him. ❤
Don't forget The Bass Gang! Yeah, the fan crossover is huge. They are all so talented that the main difference is which style of music one prefers, not the talent of the group! ❤
Oh yes, it was miserable hot as the AC had went out and the leather and furs made for a really sweaty day. But, the warriors of VoicePlay slayed it! In case you haven't seen it, this is Part 2, My Mother Told Me was Part 1. I'm really hoping there will be more parts to this! You'll love Eli in My Mother Told Me too. He found his inner berserker. Hope we see that reaction soon!!
I temember saying Eli was "tiny and terrifying" in My Mother Told Me. Even more so here, with a side of Geoff looking like Boromir's "one does not simply walk into..." Valhalla!
The makeup was created by Rick Underwood and Renette Feren, and, for four of the performers, recreates their looks from their first Viking cover, My Mother Told Me, with a few Easter eggs. The design on J. None's (baritone/rap) forehead and inside Eli Jacobson's (tenor) forearm is the Norse rune for music, tónlist, The runes inside Geoff Castellucci's (bass) forearm and on Cesar de la Rosa's (bari-tenor) face spell out VoicePlay. Some of the costume pieces were reused as well; for example Cesar is wearing the robe worn by Jose Rosario, Jr. in MMTM. Geoff holds a B0 subharmonic for about 15 seconds near the beginning, and near the end holds it again for about 12 seconds. He's liberally hitting A1, B1, and G1 chest notes, with F#1 and E subharmonics throw into the mix. On the opposite end of things, Eli is throwing around B4s like they're nothing and is sustaining B5 mix notes, especially near the end with Geoff's B0 sub. Crazy!!
I really enjoyed this one! We got something really cool from everyone in the group. From Geoffs lows to Eli's highs, J rapping, Cesars grit and those insane sounds Layne manages to make. Makes for a very entertaining video!
Vikings did rap. They Battle Rapped. Also known as Flyting. Traced back to the old English word for "flitan" quarrel. A ritual in which many mythological figures took part in exchanging poetic insukts. Much the same way battle raps are done by rappers today. I looked it up on Google.
Awesome reaction to an awesome song and video. This is sequel to "My Mother Told Me" they did a couple years ago. They reprised their characters. This was filmed at Vü Studios in Orlando Florida. The air conditioner was broken. That's why they're sweating. They flew J None in from Washington to Orlando just for this video. If he couldn't make it they weren't going to do it. You did an awesome job on their names except Geoff is Jeff. Eli is a Rock Tenor. He played in several rock bands before joining Voiceplay.
Strange, I can feel your reactions to my bone lol. In other words, great reactions to a great song. If you like sea shanties, you must listen to Voiceplay's Hoist the Colours.
The bass in this group is Geoff Castilucci. He sings bass, but prefers to sing baritone because singing too low hurts him. He can do it, but he prefers singing baritone.
I think the rap works because it's like modern flyting. Viking poetry battles, right? This whole thing was just EPIC from start to finish & I loved watching your expressions as changes just slammed into you. Prost! ❤💜💙
J was a permanent member from 2017 to 2021 when the Navy recruited him to front one of their bands. I love that they have him returning home in this. He’s been away and now he’s coming back where he belongs. Among their tattoos are runes spelling out VoicePlay. Cesar’s is on his face, Geoff has one on his forearm and there’s too much going on for me to figure out where everybody else has one. In My Mother Told Me Eli was a beserker. He obviously has recruited the whole group now. Even Cesar was scary. A lot of the costuming is from MMTM. Layne did the arrangement and Eli the amazing backgrounds. It was filmed, not green screen, but at a studio with immense (Full wall!) led screens.
I'm so glad to see your interpretation on J's 'return'. I unfortunately saw it more as him dying and joining the others in the Mead Hall of Valhalla. Your interpretation is much less dire/dead. A relief!
I think it's in the breakdown sections, when there are no words being sung, I think Geoff is saying wowowow and a really low note almost like a vibrating subwoofer. I've had to listen a few times to try and figure what the shenanigans is going on.
You really need to checkout their cover of My Mother Told Me. Cesar wasn't a part of the group then but they had a guest, Jose Rosario Jr, and they used the same costumes and makeup
Cesar's wearing Jose's cloak from MMTM here. Leading theories so far are that he's either the son of Jose's late character seeking vengeance, or Jose bought that boat, decided pillaging just wasn't him, sold the boat to Cesar and threw in the cloak as a bonus, retired to a life of mead-making and now supplies them on their voyages.
@@DTA-Music My own theory is that Jose went down in glorious battle and the cloak was given to a kinsman of his who wears it in his honor as Jose feasts in Valhalla
it is pronounced like Jeff, even though it is spelled Geoff. But yeah, this definitely got my Northern raiding blood pumping! And I will say that I'm not normally one for rap, but the breakdown in this one hit all of the right notes for me. I look forward to you continuing to explore VoicePlay and Geoff's solo work. I'd almost recommend Sixteen Tons as a great intro point for him.
Oh Splendid darling!!! you did a wonderful job here!!! much love ♥ Um.. so i am not judging, but i doubt many of you realized... they are looking across a sea to the gates of tartarus... you cant be blamed if you havent toured tartarus >.> I do wonder how many ppl think the viking thing is a ploy and how many actually recognize that amulet you wear...
Thank you so much! And a lot have mentioned that I can't be a Viking as I am not scandinavian (little do they know I have Swedish ancestry) but not as much lately. Some people have noticed Mjolnir and have asked if I am into Asatru as well ;). And the answer is indeed: yes. Well spotted!
I think that the story is at first the vikings calling one of their own home to Valhalla, then they go to call more home. I CANNOT believe that fierce, gritty guy is the same guy as that sweet, innocent-looking elf in Dragonborn
@@VikingReacts Another Viking one is My Mother Told Me, but I think you've already done that one. If you like Geoff's deep voice, he does a song called the Headless Horseman that's ridiculous.
J None wasn't on leave so his part was done from a distance and Eli (rhymes with jelly) incorporated his part into the video. They do not have a label because they want the control themselves. They do the arranging (Layne and Geoff split the duty, each do a video and next time the other does it), Layne and Tony (used to be VP baritone but wanted to get into production (can hear him in Phantom of the Opera)) own Pattycake Studios where much of VPs and Geoff's (Jeff) videos are done, camera work, costuming, staging, computer and greenscreen, makeup. They do it all, final mix is by Ed Boyer, extreme makeup, wigs, beard wrangling by Rick Underwood and Renee Feren. Geoff's wife Kathy is the production manager. I am so proud of their abilities - no other group comes close to VoicePlay. They may have great voices but they are owned by the labels.
I don’t know who told you J was remote, but stop listening to them. 😉 J’s plane was three hours late, but he was on set with them and did film along with them in the same studio. My source: the behind the scenes video that has Kathy quietly fretting about him being late and shows J horsing around with the other guys. As far as I know, Alexa and the Stairwell Siren (I’m blanking on her name - the lady who sang “Ding Dong” with them) are the only two that have worked remotely any time recently.
You actually did really well on remembering the names for only the second song of theirs you’ve watched. I hope you find other songs of theirs that you’ll enjoy. Great fun watching your reaction. I’m off to watch more of your videos since this is the first I’ve found you.
This is now the second song I've ever heard by this band (the first being your other reaction) and I don't know this particular song, but that whole thing was just mind blowing. I can't get over that guy that goes low (dirty Fabio this time😍), like I just want him to come read books to me, his voice is magnificent. So this song is now immediately going on my workout/running playlist cause it's badass and I guess I'm going to have to dive down this rabbit hole.....
Pressure wave! Perfect description. I thought of it almost like the shockwave after a jet breaks the sound barrier. And yes...definite Floki vibes! He was my favorite!
You got the low note from Geoff (Jeff) right - F#1. What freaks me out about that is that F#1 is a vibration at just over 46 Hertz (cycles per second) - and the human hearing range (when young, and in good condition) only goes down to about 20 Hertz. As do most headphones - check your specs. And that's not even Geoff's lowest note! That man is a Viking war horn, all by himself!

I've been a major fan of VoicePlay for a few years, but when this song hit a couple days ago, I had to get this track. I immediately hit their Patreon site and signed up. Now I have most of their more recent stuff and will continue to support them for a good while. There are a few others that might fit the Viking theme, but I would not pass up the other things that they have done. If you like the MegaBass, then I have to recommend the Oogy Boogy Song. Not Viking, but really good.
I was so looking forward to your reaction to this song. You did not disappoint. I agree with the fierce attitude and appearance of each one, but, most especially, Cesar. He gives off Berserker vibes. Then there was your response to Geoff's first really low note, epic!!
That deep rumble that Geoff does in the background is a B0 in some places. To put into perspective how deep that is: You know a bass guitar, right? It normally has four strings. In order to get the low note that Geoff sings on that bass guitar, you have to use a FIVE string bass, and it's the lowest note on that lowest string. BELOW normal bass guitar notes.
Sooooo….what do you think of their stylistic range? And you haven’t even started. Showtunes, movie soundtracks, country, Disney, pop, k-pop, they’ve done it all. And they own it all. It doesn’t matter what kind of music it started as or who did it. Once VoicePlay does it, it’s a VoicePlay song.
Oogie Boogie is one of my favs of theirs, and it's an amazing song if you want to hear the range Geoff has. His solo stuff is also incredible, he has a taken on Sound Of Silence that's nice and 16 Tons is one of my favs!
I had never seen this or the original before but gosh dang it's good! And that face you made when Geoff did that low bit in the beginning was friggan awesome!! I probably had the same expression! You should check out the 'Oogie Boogie' song from them, it's pretty cool and Geoff goes I think even lower than in this one! Edit: You mentioned a screen shake when the bass dropped like that and it reminded me of PTX so I went to look - you haven't seen Popspring 2016 or Somebody I Used To Know so may I recommend those, PTX does the same thing in those that I think you'd like!
I'm go out on a limb and make a left-field recommendation: Teresa Carpio singing "Vincent" (originally by Don McLean), preferably the version from episode 3 of The Singer 2017. It's definitely not in your usually reaction genre, but as someone who clearly enjoys excellent emotional performances by talented musicians, i really think you would love Teresa's cover of "Vincent". I originally found her via her great cover of "Imagine." --crosses fingers--- P.S. the cover of "Flowers" by Leo Moracchioli is one of the best things I would never have found otherwise. Thank you for sharing it!
Fun fact the lowest he went in this song was a B0 you can hear it in the beginning beneath the me that is sung
That was the note he called the base undertone

I feel a little bad you watched Vahalla Calling before watching their My Mother Told Me video (it's 2 or 3 years old but, if you watch it, you'll understand why. Note: it was before J.None left voiceplay to serve in the army and before Cesar join in.)
Fun fact - the U.S. Navy actually recruited him for his singing abilities! ❤
I Did listen to this song for hours on repeat!
They also did a cover of "My Mother Told Me" from the Vikings show. This cover was supposed to be a sequel to "My Mother Told Me".
@@raycardy4843 the wedding was in Florida, and it was HIS wedding --he filmed this the day before his own wedding; talk about a full schedule!
@@loritempleman2951 Actually - no! J.None and D'Mone married before he went into the Navy, but they didn't get to celebrate it until Feb 26th this year - there is a video on Huldra Draco's channel..!
@@raycardy4843 I should have been clearer--they were married legally before, but came back for a full-on wedding celebration. There are pictures on insta.
His name is Geoff, but it's pronounced Jeff, so you are fine.
Eli is pronounced like jelly (without the J).
Glad you like it, your react was really enternaining.
1:40 "I wanted to go back" *promptly gets distracted by the next amazing set of lines
Always :p
They do their own make-up, production, set or backdrop, everything. They are amazing and they sound fabulous doing it! FIRE!!!!
Thanks for your reaction- I knew you would love Voice Play's cover of this song! I agree with the other comments about reacting to Voice Play's "My Mother Told Me" and "Hoist The Colors".
The look on your face when Geoff opened his mouth was priceless 😅
Most of us Pentaholics also enjoy Voiceplay and Home Free (Home Fry does a bit country). All acapella groups.
Don't forget The Bass Gang! Yeah, the fan crossover is huge. They are all so talented that the main difference is which style of music one prefers, not the talent of the group! ❤
Geoff’s sustained B0 is mind blowing.
The long note that Geoff sings at the beginning just as J. None starts is a subharmonic B0 that he holds for 15 secs and even slides up and back down!
His inner berserker 😂 omg so true
Before Geoff starts his solo (which he stays in the 1st and 2nd octaves) hes droning out a B0. The last note on the piano
Vikings don't rap they chant.
@@marshayoung9387They also flyte, so it works.
@@marshayoung9387 I bet you're fun at parties 😉
In viking culture there was a thing called flyting - a kind of rap battles. In assassin's Creed - the game - there are some flyting scenes too.
Prost! ❤💜💙
Commenting mostly for the algorithm but I am convinced that Layne was built by Yamaha Sound at some point in the late 80's.
And with some of the effects he comes up with, one of the designers was smoking something good! Lol Layne is amazing! 💙💜❤
Don’t you just love it when a song fades out at the end like that?
A relief!
I am so happy that you reacted to this! Everyone else has already given you great info, so I'll just applaud and say I enjoyed it tremendously!
♥
I think it's in the breakdown sections, when there are no words being sung, I think Geoff is saying wowowow and a really low note almost like a vibrating subwoofer. I've had to listen a few times to try and figure what the shenanigans is going on.
Geoff went into a B0 this song . ........ Holy freaking goodness
Love the harmonies. I’m finding groups I never would have listened to. Thanks for that.😊

Others have probably written this, but this is a sequel to My Mother Told Me. You should check that out.
Voiceplays newest cover is out. Seven Nation Army. Superb!
Their version of Nothing Else Matters is amazing. Hope you go through their eclectic catalogue.
eclectic is putting it mildly! These guys do *everything* and incredibly well!
Terrific reaction, so glad you did this one. It's still said Jeff not Geoff. Caesar is a true actor. He can do things with his voice, see Halo Theme.
Oh Splendid darling!!! you did a wonderful job here!!! much love ♥ Um.. so i am not judging, but i doubt many of you realized... they are looking across a sea to the gates of tartarus... you cant be blamed if you havent toured tartarus >.>
I do wonder how many ppl think the viking thing is a ploy and how many actually recognize that amulet you wear...
I haven't see that video yet but I will soon pick that I guess ;). Those are themes that will always speak to me!
J’s plane was three hours late, but he was on set with them and did film along with them in the same studio.
@@Gael4ce J did some distance filming for the...November set of minis? Pretty sure it was November. But that's the only other time recently.
Great reaction, I'm delighted that you enjoyed this song so much! I look forward to your next voicePlay (or solo Geoff) discovery!
You actually did really well on remembering the names for only the second song of theirs you’ve watched. I hope you find other songs of theirs that you’ll enjoy.
Great fun watching your reaction. I’m off to watch more of your videos since this is the first I’ve found you.
Me, too.
So glad your video showed up in my recommidations. I loved your channel and videos and thought you were gone :(
(you were but you know what i mean).
so i stopped subscribing because it clutters my feed otherwise but im so happy you are back. youre one of the reactors that are authentic, real, have good quality, feedback, opinion. I just love your stuff.
the names are eli, nicht ily and jeff not geoff ^^ spokenwise
their yoiceplay stuff is unmatched. every song is a fraeaking banger. geoff solo work is fantastic too. insane qulity produktion, insane vocals, a wide spektrum of genres... hes crazy :D
subbed again! thanks for coming back
This is goooood
Think I just finally heard someone who can rival Eric in Bass!! Love it!!!!
The Bass Singer's name is Geoff Castelucci. he does solo bass covers as well
Found you by this song. Loved your enthusiasm! Must recommend their Dragonborne Comes!
Sir, it was around 40 degrees Celsius and the AC had stopped working hours before. Remember, this is Orlando Florida. HOT humid, and this guys working their asses off for us.
Elmar from Germany
They did an amazing job if you take that into consideration.
Mein lieber Freund Ich wümsche Ihnen alles Gute, bleiben Sie gesund. Ihr Schwabe Elmar
Lived in Norway when I was younger and it gave the same feeling as the long ship museum and looking at the fjords, very epic. Loved it! Den Norse Vikinger.
Except for J None's switch with Jose Rosario Jr., the costumes are the same as My Mother Told Me. Looks like the making of a Viking Series. I hope they consider doing Led Zeppelins Immigrant Song next. Great reaction!
lol Geoff made a Viking giggle!
How do you not here that! The sound is incredible!
I KNEW you'd like this one 😁.
Happy you appreciated it.🙂
These guys seem to be able to raise the bar every single time... And it began seeming impossible mong ago, but here they are blowing us away 😅.
Loved your reaction to this one. 🙂
See you next time.
Skål!
Geoff (Bass) is a beatboxer teacher too , plus has his own channel for more just bass songs
Oh... I need to check that out! I actually mentioned that he should teach in a video I recorded today! I noticed he used his false vocal cords to achieve a low note and that sparked this comment! Seems he was way ahead of me :P
ive done my share of research and yes, that deep voice is indeed real.. holy fucking shit man.
This is soooooo awesome! I love it.
Welcome aboard! They got me at a concert a few years back. 🙂
I was so looking forward to your reaction to this song. You did not disappoint. I agree with the fierce attitude and appearance of each one, but, most especially, Cesar. He gives off Berserker vibes. Then there was your response to Geoff's first really low note, epic!!
They're definitely Hot! Oh wait.... you meant temperature hot... yeah, that as well, lol! ❤💜💙
B0 held for 15 sec. Amaźing
I also think they were really hot~ oh you meant the temperature 😳
If you haven't already check out their version of My Mother Told Me, which was released before this one. You reactions are SO good I love them!😊❤
I DO listen to this for hours on repeat! Really!
Can't blame you to be honest...
Knew you would love this ❤, great reaction xx
The recommendation of their version of my mother told me that also showed up is also epic viking song
Hail Viking! Thank you for the great reaction. Happy New Year to you and all of yours 🥂🐷🍀😎🤘❤
Try their cover of Dragonborn Comes from the Skyrim game..
Oogie Boogie is one of my favs of theirs, and it's an amazing song if you want to hear the range Geoff has. His solo stuff is also incredible, he has a taken on Sound Of Silence that's nice and 16 Tons is one of my favs!
Great reaction. You are great to watch
RESPECT BOYS!!
SICK TRANSPORTATION
This is my first time watching one of your reactions, but just to help a bit, the bass singer is Geoff (pronnounced Jeff) ;)
Tips for yet another version of Valhalla Calling. Search for: Valhalla Calling | Bass Singers Cover ft. Big Letter 🎵🎶🎶
I originally found her via her great cover of "Imagine." --crosses fingers---
P.S. the cover of "Flowers" by Leo Moracchioli is one of the best things I would never have found otherwise. Thank you for sharing it!
