as for the set design, that was all designed and created by Eli (the bald rock tenor) in Unreal Engine. Every single background you see there, everything designed and created by Eli. He did an amazing job with it!

It was filmed in a volume studio, much like the one used for The Mandalorian. The LED screens are 155 ft long and 26 ft tall. The volume set allowed for camera tracking to match the moving background with the performances.

  • @akakscase

I personally thing this is probably their best work to date. Layne arranged the music, Eli did the sets and CG, Geoff called the USGS so they wouldn’t think Florida had earthquakes, and J.None wrote the rap.
As the videos have progressed Caesar has come more out of his shell and experimented more with his pitch and tenor. Eli was the lead singer in a Metallica Cover Band so I knew he could rock out, but OMG did he blow my mind with this one. Geoff never got above the 1 octave range and dropped as low as a C0 (his highest note was a F1#). To put that in perspective, most standard pianos end at a F0. J.None laid fire and brimstone all about. And Layne chased his drum set appetizer with a full synth (seriously, I know there is some post production, but he can also make most those noises himself… I just want to know HOW).

My Mother Told Me they did first, and the characters they established there returns now. Geoff manages 3 B0 in this, holding it 15 seconds first time.
Miracle of Sound gave them 10 alehorns out 10 for this cover. VP responded that the wishes he would send on the ale, the singing made them thirsty.
Trivia fact, the AC was broken in the studio, they were very hot in their furs.

Heck, they even had a separate category for insult rap - flyting, which dates back to 5th century. So, as surprising as it may sound, J's section fits the context of the song quite perfectly.

if they looked sweaty it was with good reason they’re filming in Florida and the air conditioning broke down. And yes they do as much as possible themselves. Layne arranged this one and Eli did a lot of the virtual backgrounds and lighting. They are simply amazing 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

  • @lkayh
    @lkayh Год назад +19

They were all legit sweating. The AC broke in the studio, and it was 100 degrees. That’s probably why they look so fierce, too.
It is Jeff. Geoffrey is just the old French version of Jeffrey.
All of us were blown away by Cesar in this-we hadn’t seen this side of him before. Or heard this color in his voice. I’ve suspected almost from the get-go that there was a lot more to him than we were getting to see. Now I really want him to set up a solo channel. Same with Eli (he could go rock god more often!) and if Layne wanted to do one where he played violin I’d be there for it. J. has his own channel-there’s a rendition of the national anthem on there (he’s in uniform, so singing for the Navy) that is one of the best I’ve heard.
That was a B0 subharmonic by Geoff. Usually within a day or two if you scroll thru the comments, RTSBass or someone else will have a list of the low notes. Geoff’s hit a B0 only once before, for Halo Theme. There are basses who can hit lower notes, but Geoff not only hits them, he sounds great. That’s hard to do that low.
You should hear the (sort of) prequel for this-My Mother Told Me. Also sort of in the same vein there’s Hoist the Colours from Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Dragonborn Comes from Skyrim, and Halo Theme…. Oh, and Carry On Wayward Son (more like Nothing Else Matters).
Loved your reaction! I was worried if you really liked Gavin and Peyton’s version you might be jarred by the way these guys changed it up, but I love both versions. Glad you do too!

Geoff hit a B0 3 times in this one. Voiceplay can do any genre, hard rock, metal, Disney, showtunes, comedy, tragedy. Literally, anything. There are a couple of reactors who try to analyze eveything in a Voiceplay video,. One goes an hour to an hour and a half, and acknowledges that he hasn't noticed everything. For this one, during the patron scroll, they were playing the karaoke track that they create for patrons. Since there was no melody playing, we could hear the backup vocals more clearly. Absolutely beautiful.

The makeup was created by Rick Underwood and Renette Feren, and, for four of the performers, recreates their looks from their first Viking cover, My Mother Told Me, with a few Easter eggs. The design on J. None's (baritone/rap) forehead and inside Eli Jacobson's (tenor) forearm is the Norse rune for music, tónlist, The runes inside Geoff Castellucci's (bass) forearm and on Cesar de la Rosa's (bari-tenor) face spell out VoicePlay. Some of the costume pieces were reused as well; for example Cesar is wearing the robe worn by Jose Rosario, Jr. in MMTM. Geoff holds a B0 subharmonic for about 15 seconds near the beginning, and near the end holds it again for about 12 seconds. He's liberally hitting A1, B1, and G1 chest notes, with F#1 and E subharmonics throw into the mix. On the opposite end of things, Eli is throwing around B4s like they're nothing and is sustaining B5 mix notes, especially near the end with Geoff's B0 sub. Crazy!!

That deep rumble that Geoff does in the background is a B0 in some places. To put into perspective how deep that is: You know a bass guitar, right? It normally has four strings. In order to get the low note that Geoff sings on that bass guitar, you have to use a FIVE string bass, and it's the lowest note on that lowest string.
    BELOW normal bass guitar notes.

J was a permanent member from 2017 to 2021 when the Navy recruited him to front one of their bands. I love that they have him returning home in this. He’s been away and now he’s coming back where he belongs.
Among their tattoos are runes spelling out VoicePlay. Cesar’s is on his face, Geoff has one on his forearm and there’s too much going on for me to figure out where everybody else has one. In My Mother Told Me Eli was a beserker. He obviously has recruited the whole group now. Even Cesar was scary. A lot of the costuming is from MMTM.
Layne did the arrangement and Eli the amazing backgrounds. It was filmed, not green screen, but at a studio with immense (Full wall!) led screens.

Yet warriors have to dig down to these same roots to go to war so it made me appreciate the complexity of it. Who would have thought that a black viking rapping would make any sense at all? But it works and it bridges a bit of our understanding of those "crazy" Vikings. J None wasn't on leave so his part was done from a distance and Eli (rhymes with jelly) incorporated his part into the video. They do not have a label because they want the control themselves. They do the arranging (Layne and Geoff split the duty, each do a video and next time the other does it), Layne and Tony (used to be VP baritone but wanted to get into production (can hear him in Phantom of the Opera)) own Pattycake Studios where much of VPs and Geoff's (Jeff) videos are done, camera work, costuming, staging, computer and greenscreen, makeup. They do it all, final mix is by Ed Boyer, extreme makeup, wigs, beard wrangling by Rick Underwood and Renee Feren. Geoff's wife Kathy is the production manager. I am so proud of their abilities - no other group comes close to VoicePlay. They may have great voices but they are owned by the labels.

J’s plane was three hours late, but he was on set with them and did film along with them in the same studio. My source: the behind the scenes video that has Kathy quietly fretting about him being late and shows J horsing around with the other guys.

You got the low note from Geoff (Jeff) right - F#1. What freaks me out about that is that F#1 is a vibration at just over 46 Hertz (cycles per second) - and the human hearing range (when young, and in good condition) only goes down to about 20 Hertz. As do most headphones - check your specs. And that's not even Geoff's lowest note! That man is a Viking war horn, all by himself!
