"The guy playing the drums is the one that actually sings the song" : What I always have to say when I share the video, because I care about Theo Katzman getting his proper credit with my friends
Aha! Now we got you. This comment is waaay too positive to be real and raised a terrible suspicion. I talked to Cory and Joe about this and now we are seeing through this. You should be ashamed of yourself for setting yourself before the band. Masquerading as a Fan and anonymously praising yourself with fake Accounts just to get a Drum Solo and a more prominent Sound in the Mix is immoral, Theo! :( But it was a creative try at least.
This was the first Vulfpeck song I ever listened to. And it's still my favorite one. In an absolute arsenal of dozens of incredible songs, none can quite match this for me. Sounds like raw unfiltered joy.
@@michaelrizzo7169 First comment is about how this song is similar to the song I Want you back by Jackson 5. The second comment says that in the piano tutorial for Animal Spirits that the composer (Jack Stratton) made for it, Jack says that the keyboard part for Animal Spirits was inspired by the guitar part of I Want You Back. The word "Ostinato" is from music theory and basically means a sort of part that persistently repeats in a song ("riff" is a more modern word with similar meaning).
As silly as Jack is in this video, the reveal of the football field combined with the drop is such a genuinely good moment. It blew my mind the first time I watched this.
This song is simply beautiful. If I was struck blind tomorrow and left with the rest of my senses keep me sane, this song would be a large help. What a wonderful melody, just an orchestral display of talent from everyone involved. Bravo 👏
The title "高らかに歌うセオ" makes me feel lovely because it's actual meaning in Japanese is that "he holy glory confidently sings a song performed by Theo". --- Update: Sorry for giving a confusion to several people either my translation has 100% accuracy or not. Yes "高らかに" is an adverb, that means "with hight tone, loudly" something like that, which is just a simple monotonous translation with only using DeepL or so. You would never hear the phrase in a real life in Japan, just because it's pretty outdated one, no one uses it on a daily basis at least. When someone Japanese dares to use the phrase, I have to think deeply what the context is. Actually for me, it sounds very gorgeous, like watching a boys choir group singing in a very sacred place. (@BonDieu617 explained the detail more simply) Recap: just a free translation. Sooooooo long explain, kinda lame 😢
And here I was so sure it just meant “Theo singing loudly”, but 声が高い does indeed mean “having a high voice”. The video translation is pretty accurate I think. Edit: 高らかに does mean "loud, sonorous, ringing" though, so make of that what you will
I was feeling a little down this morning, and while I was getting ready for work, this song came on from my playlist. Of course, I instantly felt so much happier and found myself singing and dancing along! Thank you, Vulfpeck :D
Vulfpeck has so many songs that, when im listening to them, I say, "this is their best song". Then I hear another one and I'm like, "No, THIS is their best song". The cycle repeats again and again into infinity. Its a great problem to have, really.
Joe, I have been writing a lot of music lately thanks to you. I have never written funky music in the past but you have inspired me. There will be plenty more music to come thanks to your style. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. P.S. Animal spirits is fav song of all TIME!
You cats are just too good. So glad I discovered y'all. A great song... love the whole astrology schtick. I ran a band I called Capricorn, doing jazz, soul, funk, and all that. Named for the whole JB zodiac thang... always worried people might take it literally... but if the girls wanna take it, Iiterally or any other which way.. that's ok!
This is such a bop.
Next tutorial?
There's no better word for this song!
PLEASEEE do a tutorial on this
@@dylan7476 Vulfpeck did a lesson on their channel.
Is that you, Rob?
「高らかに歌うセオ」がじわじわくる笑

Jack Stratton - composer, piano, *trombone* , mixing, video
...Of course.
Nathan B welp, I wish I could make a band like vulfpeck, shame there's not too many amazing people around like this
you forgot dancing

same lmao
To follow up a year later, Theo's solo stuff rips absolute ass as well.

True! Also Christine Hucal who's not even in the video (she the one singing Backpocket)

Same bro same
It really does have a unique feel good vibe
walkers
Agreed
so true
The fact that Jack Stratton went to a park, set up his camera, and danced there alone cracks me up.
he just doesn't give a fuck, I love his personality
it's really easy to do when you're making money doing what you love!
I think the funniest part is that he went through all that work just to edit most of it out lol
Joe Dart is the Joe Dart of bass players
^^ truth
he can sound the best almost without being there
Joe Dart on the Fender Bass is the Joe Dart of the Fender Bass. Joe Dart.
I feel like he draws so much influence from Joe Dart.
Without Joe Dart... there would be no Joe Dart

You had me at "Theo sings in a high voice"
Was gonna say anytime theo sings high i'm guaranteed so fucking in
Damn straight, theos high voice is like Jackson but with much needed grit imho. It's so damn good anyway gaaaah

Yes! In the tutorial video he says the keyboard ostinato pattern is lifted from the guitar on "I Want You Back."
Nerds : )

No one feels a Jackson 5's "ABC" vibe on this?
So brilliant!
Right!
Absolutely. I think it's the scalar bass alternating between I and IV in the chorus
in the animal spirits piano tutorial jack gives, he says that the rhythm is inspired by Jackson 5's "want you back" :)
