Jack Stratton - drums, composer, mixing
Joey Dosik - masking tape piano
Woody Goss - wurlitzer
Cory Wong - guitar
Theo Katzman - guitar
Joe Dart - bass
Ryan Lerman - camera, engineer
Ahh, I love this iteration of vulf, jack on drums, theo and cory on guitars, and joey and woody on keys/piano, and God on bass. It just feels right.
Nathan B absolute facts
@@nathanb4424 Man if god was that funky id live in a church.
Absolutely perfect
The only way to make it even better it put Joey on sax and swap Theo and Jack. Theo's an amazing drummer.

no-one, NO-ONE, knows how to sit subtly and powerfully in a song like Woody Goss.
This comment is important
He is the silent assassin of the band
His touch is so light if you look closely you'll notice the keys blushing
For a while I didn't really like him for being so quiet and dispassionate. But damn, he always brings something important to a tune.
And he wrote Dean Town.
John Paul Jones
I just discovered Vulfpeck and I feel like I've been lost my whole life???? why are they so good???? like how????? insane
Welcome!
katy perry version of this is better
right there with you
@@carsonemery1846false
Seeing Cory get increasingly excited while watching Joe at 3:36 is the wholesome content I needed today.
Once again, just rockin the Education category. Lovin it.
is this not educational?
it is the odyssey after all
I think its so youtube wont limit it in ways they do other music videos in the music category
It's edutainment
@@heroblah6074 yeah, I think that too, but a few have music category.
Im a guy who studies classical literature, and is a fan of the vulf.
Today, I am happy.
me too
i just posted a comment before scrolling down, and i now realise that mine is essentially a reworded version of yours lol. i study classics so i can level with you on this one
There's four of us now.
on this day the funky humanists got their reward
what are some of your favorite mythic tales? I'm a writer with a great interest in mythology and literature
it's insane how much I think about this bassline
It's on another level!
It just randomly plays in my head!
Everyone is noticing how cool is the bass, but I must say the drums are sweet as well. I like that punchy warm sound.
Vulf compressor
Mixing is key my fren
Vulfpeck's attitude towards a drumset has always been "it's cold, let's put some blankets on it"
but nothing beats hero town for the vulfpeck drums
I read this as “punchy worm” and I was like huh I kind of know what that means somehow but then that wasn’t it at all lmao
These kinds of basslines never get old when played by competent musicians.
Opening interplay between the two guitars is phenomenal
I want someone to look at me the way Cory looks at anyone playing music with him.
Music is sex, what can I say?😂
Is anyone impressed with how well Joe’s sunglasses stay on his face?
Glasses are made of Funk itself, powered by stanky faces and bass fills.
He was born wearing them, comes as no surprise considering they are physically part of his face
Yeah I was a bout to say that, like, he superglued them to his face or something
glue
they are part of his face
2:06 perfect display of the opposite ends of the neck spectrum
the necktrum
I cannot unsee this.
lol
The real question is: Is Cory Wong's wrist made of the same material of Joe Dart's neck?
Yes. It's ear cartilage.
technically yes
This literally made me laugh out loud. You win best Vulfpeck comment. Thank you
Pure cartilage
not cartilage, precision engineered German rubber
joe dart makes me want to simultaneously quit bass and practice more the man's a beast
Joe Dart is such a bass player name too lmao
Right!
Nathan Lyrakis Is what he’s doing really that tough or does he just have really good groove? Asking for real 😅
@@Dev1nci this one is actually not too technical (as far as Joe Dart lines). Not necessarily "easy".
Every time I need a pick me up, I go and listen to Dean Town. It's a lesson in being so goddamn rhythmically perfect, that your heart is a metronome.
this song is my daily dose for depression. I'm bassist and this always, whatever it happens, brought a smile on my face. This is art
Didn't know I needed a Greek classic/Funk classic mashup in my life
I now want to see a stage production of this
Greek?
@@peterjanjanin9883 Ulysses is the Roman name for Odysseus, a character of Greek creation. Source: Intergoogle
@@pectenmaximus231 so it's a Roman/Funk mashup....;)
@@peterjanjanin9883 Yes but all the other names listed in the video are the Greek variations, even Scilla is spelled with a K
2 guitars, 2 keyboards, still a minimalist feel. Love it.
Second drummer, anyone?
3:09 Joe can’t hold back the funk; bass groove heaven ensues.
If this doesn’t make you want to learn the bass, nothing will
what about that guitar tho ????? that sound is so sexy
Secretly hoping for them to make a song called Nothing now
yeahhh! recently got a bass for my birthday..joe dart was my main inspiration lol
I think you could probably say that about all of them. I would happily sit and watch Joe play all day.. but I would have to have a go too at some point!
Sylvie Bartusek that’s so rad!!!
Been waiting for this since the album came out
I am worried about the amount of happiness I reserve for the new Vulf releases.
What if they stop releasing?! What will come of me then?
Joshua Jarman I often ponder this as well... This is a symptom of superfandom
Maybe try mdma?
caprice.t exactly, I was just proposing something which would both qualitatively and quantitively fill the void of vulfpeck if they ever stopped releasing
Naw man I’ve already had a Vulfpeck-fueled LSD experience. Watch ‘The Beautiful Game Alonr w/ Drone’.
We are all going to die, and break up into pieces - facts. Not forgetting this may be the single most important thing we can do for a happy life - Vulfpeck music is available to us right now, and I have ears to hear it, time to listen, a body to move to it! What an amazing thing - truly a great joy. Life is good. I am not forgetting.
What an honor to share a room with these fellows the fact that they can be this comfortable infront of such a vast audience is incredible hats of to the boys
Musicianship forever!
By the comments I can tell I am so lucky to have discovered this group through this video
You still listening to them?
@@kennethcoval4970yes
Who knew Sparknotes could get so funky and so low volume???
Come on
Nathan Flood yah
Yuh
ITS LOW VOLUME
He knew
Never slammed the play button so quickly
"wait how is that new"
"it isn't new"
*clicks it anyway because it's greatness*
The mix on this is absolutely insane... the punchiness of these drums, the funkiness of the guitars, the different textures on that acoustic piano. He makes the guitars and pianos sound like completely different instruments throughout the course of this track. Mind blowing for real.
Yes, and on top of that the playing itself, the timing throughout impeccable, the playing from everyone is subtle and not overstated... Just sublime.
That last part when all the band comes together again has so much groove I want it to never end
Cory and Theo 1:09 just agreed they made the world a better place.
Comment of the day for me lol
Almost cried laughing when I saw it, I love Cory’s facial expressions
i am educated. thank you.

Did the Education tag get removed? I'm not seeing it anymore, it used to be on like every Vulf vid lol
Yes, you were.
that bass... it's the glue, it's the walls, it's the sky
Joe Dart's fretboard is proof that the funk is in the gunk
A clean fretboard is the workspace of an empty mind
Or something like that
@@riccardo1796 I like that definition.
The gunk definitely adds funk.
that gunk is proof pudding
James Jamerson always said the dirt keeps the funk
3:20 Theo guitar part right here is so freaking awesome. So subtle you hardly notice it, but it really give that part a great feel
Love their use of major and minor 7th chords !!!!! Bass player is mind blowing !
Probably my favourite off this album. Looking forward to hearing the vocals version in future.
iM3GTR don’t think those are the lyrics. Just a reference to Ulysses (Oddysseus) from the Oddyssey
I interrupted Fearless Flyers on Spotify for this.
So that's how they got in their studio!
errr...not all heroes have capes?
Joshua Jarmon : Nate Smith would like a word with you. In private.
@@russell_szabados as long as he counts out his cadence

This has to be my favorite Vulfpeck track right now
Now I'm always hearing Teenage dream when I play this, truly a great gift from Jack this year
Corey is the best. I love how happy he always looks while playing.
2:56 Cory's superpower: turns hand into cartilage
Cory have no superpower. He's a superpower.
Just straight rubber, the madman
That man is a beast of as ryhthm guitarist.
I imagine he uses light picks
I wonder how many picks he’s lost
In my mind and to my standards, this is the best song of all time. The song is defined by a killer bass line, great backing instrumentals, harmonious guitar, piano, drum, and bass syncopation , solos for all instruments. Overall, it's just a driving, killer track of craftsmen providing separate and supporting voices to a song that just slaps.
i’m a classics undergrad and love grooving it out with vulf and FF - one could say i’m a satisfied man after watching this piece of art. jack stratton, you are a rare and beautiful man.
Love the face that Cory makes everytime Joe starts his part
This is it, this is vulfpeck. A brand new album focusing on the basics like this track does would be incredible.
Awesome. I'm overwhelmed with the sudden urge to shorten my bass strap by 7 or 8 inches and to jar my neck back and forth without it looking painful. The entire time getting away with, Nay owning, a look of such extreme satisfaction that can only be the result of such a spam javelin of a bass line. Spanking work fellas. The evidence for disco's immortality stands before us.
Honestly, disco wishes it was this good when it was current
Read a Rolling Stone interview with Jay Kay, and he mentioned that he is listening to Vulfpeck.
Decided I would check them for myself.
I’m not too surprised he is! Jamiroquai is pretty funky stuff as well.
This collabo needs to happen ASAP!
Were you enlightened?
A funky concept album?!
These times we live in, are not so dark after all..
Deceptively simple, slamming grooves and never a boring moment ever with any of your tunes. I love what you do! Rock on.
Dude, listen to that snare. It has like, this warm crackling fuzzyness that lingers outward after each strike. Wonderful.
Theo doesn't get enough credit for his rhythm playing. Obviously Cory is the G but god damn Theo's pocket is tight
Tight pockets prevent stolen wallets
Theo makes this track. You just haven't thought to look.
I can put it in his pocket anymore :(
While Joe is a literal God on this, Theo is even better. The whole thing is sublime.
It’s Theo’s back pocket.
Just played this at full tempo on BASS for the first time, and man did that feel good. Only been playing a little more than 3 months so I super happy.
you must be a beast! i've been playing for almost 2 years and never had the guts to even try to learn any of Joe's bass lines!
damn you inspired me, imma go home and learn this until my fingers bleed !
You know you have no soul when you thumbs down this work of absolute genius.
I keep coming back to this. This has become a timeless piece for my life!!
Those smiles at the end of the song. They all have a lot to be very proud of. Got to be one of their best compositions, and there are so many awesome tunes to choose from, but this is up there.
Everytime I listen to this it lifts me up. Seeing Corys smile in the end is a pleasure ! period
My favourite track from the new album
@1:09 - That look between Cory & Theo of "Yup, this track kicks all sorts of ass".
Thanks fellas!
Thank you for existing ❤️
whoever engineered this recording is a freakin audio genius
look Joe Dart might be the master of cool but Woody Goss is the uncontested lord of CHILL
I've been waiting on this one to drop!!! YES VULF!
I love you guys, please never stop making music
I’m sure you’ve all read that classic comment. You know the one: “Today’s music is crap and all auto tuned.”
This here is a rebuttal video. Beauty is in the ear of the beholder when it comes to music. Every era of music has great stuff you have to look for it or let it find you.
Been watching this everyday for two weeks or something straight. Havent missed a day yet and I never will
We need an update - are you still groovin’ to this on the daily?
@@bethwatts2408 Pretty much! It's still my favorite song since it got released and I can't wait for the vocal version.
FACT: Cory’s wrist is entirely composed of Twizzlers.
this is supported by the recent study that found that twizzlers can perfectly synchronize with surrounding vibrations when left free to jiggle
Turn your bones into cartilage!
love how all the others look at Joe and smile as he knocks it out of the park, my bandmates do the same but for different reasons. :P
The only way I can put this is: I hecking love you.

The best musical interpretation of Homer since “Home at Last.”
"But he remains tied to the mast."

Super technical all round. Bravo
The joy here is like even if no one gave a shit about Vulfpeck they would still know they had a great thing here and keep doing it.
Just loving the big smiles these guys have on their faces.
The way Cory’s right hand bones can disappear never ceases to amaze me

It’s never too late!
How do you know that Joe Dart isn't you from an alternative timeline where you DID go back and tell yourself to learn bass, eh?
Haha that's crazy because that's exactly what I did at age 12 and now I have no friends
Just grab a bass and play.
The best time to start playing bass was when you were 12, but the second best time is right now.
