This isn't some imitator of other singers . This is an ORIGINAL singer. This is REAL country music. This is a LEGEND. This is the one and only, the original, the legendary GEORGE JONES!
A lot of likes, hardly any replies. In fact all them less then a year, after a 12 year old comment. We ol timers funny like that. Just pray that you are okay if still here. If you in Heaven that is even better.
Did his voice crack? It's just another authentic live version to me. No dubbing, lip syncing, prerecording and all that other crap that these no talents of today depend on. George, we'll love you, forever.
My wife passed away in 2007, and I listen to this song and think of her and the good times we had and shed a tear. I've continued in life, but it is 1/2 empty without her.
My Dad loved George Jones so much I even went to George Jones concert just to get George Jones hat and his CDs for my dad every time I hear George Jones I think of my father he was in service for 32 years loved his family loved his country and loved George Jones and Johnny Cash
The greatest Country song ever written. Anyone who's loved someone they couldn't have for one reason or another has this song imprinted on their heart and it doesn't go away.

My mom left my dad in 1969 after just a few years of marriage. My dad never got over it, never stopped carrying the torch. This song brings me back to that tragic love. RIP, George Jone. RIP, Dad.
Obviously time has taken a toll on George just like all of us. His voice not as strong as it used to be but in a way even more emotional and poignant. God bless him. Simply the best.
This is my favorite version, missed notes and all, It was full of emotion, and at the end, the joy he had for the best of Nashville, showing up to honor him was genuine. Country wouldn't have survived without possum, and a few others back in the late 70's and early 80's to inspire the stars of today and up and coming stars in the future. Rest in Peace Possum.

This song reminds me of my great grandfather - from the day his wife, my great grandmother passed away, he grived for her and kept saying, " I want to go be with my Jenny" - finally, that day came - and from that day forth - my great grandfather stopped greving for his wife, my great grandmother. I have no doubt that she met him at heavens gates and they are together for all eternity in heaven togeather. My their souls rest in Eternal Peace with Almighty God.
My favourite singer of ANY genre! I've never had the privilege to see this amazing man in concert, and I never will! But in my eyes , he'll always be the greatest singer of all time! I bawled my eyes out for 2 days when he passed! That right there is the epitome of what country is all about!!! May you RIP sweet man! You'll be forever loved, remembered and greatly missed!!

This is one of the few country artists I'm glad to say I did see. At the 1984 World's Fair Liggett and Meyer's Amphitheater. During the show, the curtains would open on the back of the stage showing a panoramic view of the Mississippi River with the barges and steamboats passing. It was a shame they tore it down after the World's Fair. I remember him starting the show with none other than No Show Jones. Also saw Charlie Pride there. Both too awesome shows
My mom would sing it to me when I was growing up, but i love you mom even though you are in heaven.it brings back memories of her singing it to me sleep
WOW I love and Miss You OLD George Jones POSSUM...You are and were the very best...I shall never forget your concerts brother! RIP Sir, till we meet again! MRP
I'll never forget the moment I realized what this song meant. I had always heard it but never understood it until I was going through my Dad's cd collection when I was 12, just after Johnny Cash died. I could feel the emotion, the heartache, in it. It was the first time (and one of the only since then) that I felt a song rip my heart out.

I am sure many can relate to this song somewhere in their life, for me it was my Dad, he didn't listen to Country Music, but the song was his life about my mother, married 44 years at the time of his death, she left so many times, yet he took her back every time she showed up. It's bad to get old but what hurts me more is to see the Legends get old. But George is still out there doing his music and that's great. Allergies and age are taking there toll on his voice, but he ain't giving up. Great job George!!!
one of the best country songs ever written and performed. I can only imagine how many funeral homes over the years have played this song for a loved one that has passed. it also sold a lot of beer in a lot of Honky Tonks. just a great old cry in your beer song! rest in peace George❤
My daddy loved my mother so much but he was a alcoholic and she couldn’t live with him anymore. They divorced in 1978. He never remarried and never got over her. He died in 2017 and I played this song because I always felt it was the only song that was him.

I saw him at Nutty Jerrys in Beaumont TX right b4 he died. I was 37 years of age and cried right in the concert hall listening to possum . My old man always wanted us to go see him together. He passed on, and I took him in spirit that night. I was a 5 yr old kid again that night. Felt like 1979 in pops truck with 8 track playing George Jones
Hey I was there that night too man. I live in Nederland and George Jones was my grandfather's second cousin, who was from vidor Texas. I do love the possum as well. Small world

i grew up in the 80's listening to him with my dad and uncles while working our farm. I'm a marine now and still love me some george. Thank you brother, your an original
I remember when mom and dad scraped enough together to buy a stereo cabinet. The kind where the doors slid on top. Dad took me down to Ace hardware and he bought about 20 albums. One of those was George. Loved that music. Still do.
l agree with you, indeed George Jones is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style, he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days
Sadly, the only person who sung this song to me walked out the door on 12 Nov 2015 to never be heard of again! Guess that was the day he also stopped caring about a friendship too.
George was my favorite singer, because he was my dad’s favorite singer, i didn’t have much when i was a kid , i didn’t have friends, i didn’t have a bike, but what i did have was a daddy that loved me, and boy did i sure love him, and he would take me for a drive for hrs, and he would put on George Jones and id look out over the dash and we would sing and talk, and hed tell me how proud of me he was, man id give dam there anything for one more drive with my dad! But people talking about George ‘s voice cracking-- shhhttt id pay triple to set and listen to him read the dam phonebook!!!!! George Jones the greatest singer in country music RIP
@@Vickie-so5tn I’ve been to California before it’s a very beautiful place to stay!! I’m originally from Vienna Austria 🇦🇹 but living in San Diego California..have you been to San Diego California before?
I grew up listening to George in the 60's. I listened to him through the 70's and 80's in the military. I still listen to him. To me George Jones WAS country. I was honored to meet him a few times and he was always the gentleman. The world got a little sadder when the Possum passed away. Who's gonna fill their shoes...
Sirius Country Radio did a show earlier this year in which they played their list of the top 1000 country songs. Obviously it took a few days to play them all, but I look forward to hearing this at the very end. While this made it to the top 10 (maybe even top 5), I was INCENSED that it wasn’t #1 -which in my mind it will always be. NO ONE could sing like George Jones. His timing & phrasing was genius. Very glad to know he lived his last 13 years a sober man. He was a gift to the world. Long live this song AND the ol’ Possum! 🌹🙏🏻❤️✌🏻

I remember every year for labor day ( I think) my mom and I would go over to Kentucky and listen to him perform live!! This man and a few others made music and paved the way for the country singers today!!! There will never be any one who can fill his shoes BC there will never be another George jones!!!
This song breaks my heart my mom and dad divorced in 1961 and my dad never stopped loving my mom he kept her picture on his wall and looked forward to her visits. He never looked at another woman he died in 2007. And he did only stop loving my mom when he died
My son is 17 months old and he loves the older country music just like myself and I would have to say George is his all time favorite!! My son know good music when he hears it:)
This song reminds me of my daddy he loved my mama but they divorced when I was a small child but he passed away before she did, and this song reminds me of them, George Jones was the best and always well be.

This song ALWAYS breaks me down to my very knees ... bringing tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat ... it speaks to how much my father loved my mother. He left this earth in April 2010 ... and loved her deeply, to his very last breath. She still mourns him to this day. So do we all.

Angel Colon cause country is real
Reign authur listen to more of his music and u will be a country fan from this legend
He said "I'll love you till I die", she told him "You'll forget in time"
As the years went slowly by, she still preyed upon his mind
He kept her picture on his wall, went half-crazy now and then
He still loved her through it all, hoping she'd come back again
Kept some letters by his bed dated nineteen sixty-two
He had underlined in red every single "I love you"
I went to see him just today, oh but I didn't see no tears
All dressed up to go away, first time I'd seen him smile in years
He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today
You know, she came to see him one last time
Aww, 'n' we all wondered if she would
And it kept runnin' through my mind "this time he's over her for good"
He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today

No trucker hat no wife beater shirt no screaming strats. Just an artist nailing a great freeking song 😮😮😮
What a heart breaking song Thank You George Jones May You Rest In Heavenly Peace.
I am in tears tonight, listening to this version, it's so sad! I miss him already.... :(
I remember when mom and dad scraped enough together to buy a stereo cabinet. The kind where the doors slid on top. Dad took me down to Ace hardware and he bought about 20 albums. One of those was George. Loved that music. Still do.
True country music royalty right here!! You'll always be the best Mr. Jones. RIP
Over these many years I had forgotten how simple this piece was constructed. Yes as simple as life I suppose.

Sadly, the only person who sung this song to me walked out the door on 12 Nov 2015 to never be heard of again! Guess that was the day he also stopped caring about a friendship too.
Hey how are you doing?

This used to easily be counted as the best C&W song ever!
There will never be another George jones!
Love to hear him sing this song again. Saddly missed RIP and God bless
This song makes me cry every time I hear it my love for him is forever and will never forget him
Hey how are you doing?
Sirius Country Radio did a show earlier this year in which they played their list of the top 1000 country songs. Obviously it took a few days to play them all, but I look forward to hearing this at the very end. While this made it to the top 10 (maybe even top 5), I was INCENSED that it wasn’t #1 -which in my mind it will always be. NO ONE could sing like George Jones. His timing & phrasing was genius. Very glad to know he lived his last 13 years a sober man. He was a gift to the world. Long live this song AND the ol’ Possum! 🌹🙏🏻❤️✌🏻
l agree with you, indeed George Jones is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style, he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days
But all in all, this man is a legend and forever will be. There will never be another George Jones. RIP
There will never be another one like him....amazing..
a legend that will never be forgotten for his music miss you George
Hey how are you doing?
I think he did this song better as an old man so much feeling in his accumulated life came out through his voice in this song 👍
Hello how are you doing today?
I remember every year for labor day ( I think) my mom and I would go over to Kentucky and listen to him perform live!! This man and a few others made music and paved the way for the country singers today!!! There will never be any one who can fill his shoes BC there will never be another George jones!!!
Hello Kimberly, How are you doing?
One of the best country singers who ever lived.
He was earned his respect. I'd rather hear him like this, than to have never heard of him at all.
In my heart this will always be what country music is not what it is today 😭😭♥️♥️♥️♥️
Hello how are you doing?
This song breaks my heart my mom and dad divorced in 1961 and my dad never stopped loving my mom he kept her picture on his wall and looked forward to her visits. He never looked at another woman he died in 2007. And he did only stop loving my mom when he died
why does it have to be that way?
😢
My son is 17 months old and he loves the older country music just like myself and I would have to say George is his all time favorite!! My son know good music when he hears it:)

The greatest singer singing the greatest song.Loved George since 1957.
I was there in the audience (4:07 in the video)! It was wonderful to hear George sing and give him a copy of my CD for his Birthday!
