John, I'm still young enough where I have yet to experience such a profoundly strong love like that of which you shared with your dear late wife(may god rest her soul). But I wanted to tell you that I hope you are well through it all even as things are. You sound like quite the man and I gotta say we don't come out quite the way your generation does these days. Know that god and you relatives whoever they are love you everything in your heart and surely if I ever had the chance to meet and know you I'd come to love you myself. May peace be with you sir.
Doris Poggi. Wow you are straight on I just heard some famous song writers say that this song and GO REST HIGH ON THAT MOUNTAIN WERE MOST LIKELY THE 2 GREATEST SONGS OF ALL TIME. SMART LADY. PEACE !!!!!

When I was a teenager, I thought ‘old school’ twangy, corny country was about the least cool thing you could listen to. I’d grown up on deep roots delta blues, which isn’t that far…but country seemed so ‘hillbilly’. Always stating the obvious, dichotomous standards of being true and loyal vs infidelity and two-timing up one side and down the middle. Then the new wave of country came in, and it was somehow more “real” to me. When I heard all the new bloods saying over and over how George Jones was their favorite, or most inspirational, I started listening to his older stuff. Wow! Sometimes, a few years gives you a whole different perspective. This song, and George’s rendition, is pretty much untouchable. His voice lends itself completely to the wail of unrequited love. He had his demons, and his personality that often made things difficult in his private life. But stand the ol’ Possum on stage, and he delivered every time. Flawlessly.💕
I saw him In concert 21 years ago on his farewell to Canada tour, as fan since I was 5 it was truly epic to see him preform live. RIP George and thanks for the music and memories through the years.
Mr45Bullitt I heard a rumor that before this song came out that GEORGE JONES went to the late and great Mr.Johnny Cash and told him that he needed to borrow 1 MILLION DOLLARS and that Johnny never flinched and wrote him a check for the money never asked him what it was for NOTHING else was said and 2 weeks later this song came out and well we know the rest of the story I honestly believe that because I heard it from a very reliable source??? LET me know what you think !!!!!
I saw him at Billy Bob's twice ...the first time he was so drunk he was falling of his barstool saw about 5 years after that hands down one the greatest shows I've ever seen
This song reminds me of my moms 2nd marriage!...Was a major blow to my mental health ! The guy was a Gem still is,....there for I cry every time I hear this song!..very sad😥😊

The only man I believe truly loved me. We found each other in 70’s but you sent me away from the life you had then. We found each other again in the 90’s. It wasn’t meant to be still, because we were married to others . We forged a deep and abiding friendship that was just short of a love affair. You professed your love for me and showed it in a thousand ways. Through some of the hardest times in my life you were there. You dried my tears, held my hand and listened to my sorrows . I’m sorry I wasn’t there that day you slipped away in 2009. The day you finally stopped loving me. And I’m sorry I never told you that I loved you too. I attended your funeral a few days later for the final goodbye. I will always hold you in my heart and treasure the memories we shared over 30 plus years. Til we meet again.

Even though I'm a rocker from The Beatles to Zeppelin, I just became a real fan of George Jones

The greatest song of love and loss that has ever been sung. Thank you George, you are my hero...I've had loss, but nothhing that can compare to your emotion and understanding that we all feel...
He said, "I'll love you till I die"
She told him, "You'll forget in time"
As the years went slowly by
She still preyed upon his mind
He kept her picture on his wall
Went half crazy now and then
But he still loved her through it all
Hoping she'd come back again
Kept some letters by his bed
Dated 1962
He had underlined in red
Every single, I love you
I went to see him just today
Oh, but I didn't see no tears
All dressed up to go away
First time I'd seen him smile in years
He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today
You know, she came to see him one last time (ooh)
Ah, and we all wondered if she would (ooh)
And it kept runnin' through my mind (ooh)
"This time he's over her for good"
He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today
Performed by the best country singer.
