C M I bought it with the 16-55mm kit lens from B&H photo. It also came with an SD card and a travel bag. This weekend I’m going to order the Sigma 16mm 1.4.

Looks like a very sweet camera! I see no reason to “upgrade” from the a6500. About IBIS, I do appreciate it because I use the Sigma 16mm which doesn’t have OSS. For slow handheld panning, it makes a huge difference. Great video as usual 👍

Dude! I know you and your channel are big-time famous and you probably won’t have time to read this, but I want to share a thought of support for you.
Your positivity is so refreshing amidst a sea of camera gear heads that take every opportunity to rip apart whatever is announced. I have the a6400 on order, and I am intent on taking it out there and evaluating it in terms of how fun it is to use to create the content that I am inspired to do. I’m taking some time off of the turmoil and opinions out there. For so long I have based my thoughts on other people’s experience. Sometimes I spend way too much time watching creators do their thing versus getting my butt out there and creating content myself. In fact, tomorrow I will be publishing a video on that very topic. Anyway, you are such a trustworthy person in giving us an honest evaluation. At the same time, you always do it with a smile and positivity.
The story that you interjected about your decision to buy the a 6500 was so inspiring and humbling to me. To think that only two short years ago you were making the most out of what you could afford. You kept laser-focused on following your passion and now sooo many people get knowledge and entertainment from your channel.
If you ever come to Austin, let’s get our freak on and do some street shooting.

I got a Sony A6400 two months ago and it's amazing.
Excellent video... I have an A6500 and like it pretty well. I want a second camera to use alongside the A6500 in a two camera/two lens setup. I think that for the price, that the A6400 would be a good choice - especially since many of my Sony lenses are for crop factor cameras... The size and weight is right for me also!

1. Time limit: can be easily "hacked".
2. Timelapse app: there is a free one, for the Sony cameras (google it).
S.A. I think most people know, but I don’t want that crap on my camera. I have it on my camera, but useless on a camera that overheats before a time-lapse or recording over 30 minutes can happen anyway.
First channel I turn to when buying new gear. Kudos for all the work you put in. Despite the rolling shutter problem you tipped the scale for me. Will buy the a6400 and a 10-18 mm OSS lens.
the overall reviews of this camera have been really good and I have to say you pushed it over the edge in terms of what I need your video covered all the bases and was informative so thank you for taking the time to share.
I think the image stabilization on a6500 is totally pointless. If you compare it with for example Olympus OM-D cameras it looks just like camera with out any stabilization so I would take new a6400 over that even with the same price as a6500.
It makes a huge difference when you are using a lens without OSS (like the Sigmas) and panning, or just holding the camera still.
I've been watching endless videos about what camera I should buy next. Those videos however have not given me any information that would help me choose one device from another. But now I found your video that pretty much answered all my questions and I will definitely buy the a6400. I also think that because of this review you just made I'm gonna save a lot of money as I do not have to go for those super expensive DSLR's out there. Thank you a lot and I really mean it.

Funny, I just ordered the a6500 a few days ago. But, after watching a few more videos, and seeing that the a6400 had a brighter screen, better battery life, and a flip up screen - I canceled my order and chose the a6400 instead. I should be getting it in a few days. I am every excited. Now...onto watching more a6400 videos!!

I have no experience with guns, but I doubt anyone would point a gun with such relaxed/bent arm as well as calmly getting away from your target sideways.

Also the A6400 features Bluetooth 4.2 so in theory that could possibly allow you to connect your wireless Bluetooth headphones to the camera to use as reference headphones so you don’t really need a headphone jack when you can do it wirelessly unless you actually need ultra high quality sound! It’s apparently also possible to connect the camera to a PC to stream the video directly from the camera to your PC so you could use the camera as a webcam for live streams though of course ideally you would want it connected to an external USB power source that’s directly connected to the grid and also mounted to a tripod if you were using it for live streams or videos on your PC! :)

Excellent comparison. I have the a6300 and the overheating improvement is a big sell for the a6400.
Still overheat? mine is fine no overheating issue.

Most of us just press the REC button for some seconds, or minutes - the MOST.
I walk and shoot and then mix images in a collage - make VIDEOS, not neverlasting Kindergarten footages of the whole children show.
Do not need that. No reason to complain, for me, I am still happy with my 6300 :).
The flip-up screen and touchscreen is no big sell either. I do not care that much, for that kind of stuff.

I assume same sensor or no? They both have same video specs or similar and 425 phase detect points. I'm not sure what is bought when buying sensors exactly. Both are going to be really good and if you have fuji lenses best stay there and if you have a bunch of sony lenses probably stay there. New to system, more factors to consider.
The issue I have with this camera is the flip screen. It has to be in the exact placement or it gets me upside down. Also I wish the arm extended more so It could rest higher above the camera because it time it’s difficult to see the entire screen.
HOW? How do you do this? I watched every youtuber's review on this camera and it didn't sound at all like a good deal. BUT YOU?! You make it sound like 6400 is indeed the best deal you can find for APS-C camera! Thank you for that! What an awesome review! I'll be looking on that upcoming a7000, but with this one right up there on my list!

This is the greatest review i have seen so far and i watched almost every 6400 vs 6500 video. I had a hard time choosing between the 6500 and 6400, but i think i will buy the 6400 as a hybrid shooter more focused on video. Thnx for your time.

In the UK the price is c.£700 for a6300 and c.£1k for a6400.

The flip monitor alone is worth it!! However, I'll wait another 1-2 years before upgrading.

I really love my A6400 and the only problem, it is not full frame. Videos and images look so sharp when we use sigma lenses
I filmed with my sony a6400 up to 2 hours without overheating , you just need to flip the screen up for a better ventilation and an external battery

The side by side ibis comparison shows sony's color science has improved. It looks much better to my eye. I have the a7 which is worse than both but you can tweak it in camera. Enjoyable video for some odd reason, accent perhaps?
