    What do you all think of the A6400. I definitely have no idea why Sony chose to upgrade this camera first but that new AF system is WILD!!! I'm definitely stoked for those A9 & A7III/A7RIII firmware updates too
    Purchase the A6400 & our FAVORITE gear: geni.us/sonya6400

      So whats a better 4K vloging camera instead of the a6400?

      Canon EOS R with an APSC wide angle lens is an option. That's it at the moment but far from perfect. No one has really nailed the vlogging camera yet

      Unfortunately the Real Time tracking in video is not coming to the A7iii/a7Riii. They are only getting the updated eye-af and animal af

      @@RoccoRichardson The process of actually using HLG for high dynamic range from an 8bit camera like this isn't ideal given the process involved. I guess people are using HLG just like any other picture profile and from that standpoint it might be better than log but it's difficult to push colors. I haven't used it much though and am far from a colorist so feel free to seek better advice than mine on that :)
      I also have never been a fan of Slog2 on Sony's either because I find it's SOOO tough to get skin tones looking decent again + you usually need strong ND filters + it's only 8bit. I'd prefer to clip highlights a little earlier usually and use PP4 or a modified standard profile. The picture profile system is one of my least favorite parts of shooting video on Sony

    I will add:
    1) You can assign MOVIE start/stop to usual shutter button now (when dial in Movie mode), so this small "record" button on the corner is not the issue anymore
    2) Some say that lowest ISO in S-Log now is ISO500. That is good compared to A6300/6500.
    Very good cinematics - great cameraman work and very good edit. One of the best :)

    What is it about vbloging cameras !
    Most people I chat to who are into photography / videos want a more compact camera for traveling so IBIS, battery life, AF system, people and animal eye deck is a real game changer.
    We were told canon 6Dii was a grwat vbloging camera, then the M50, then A7iii etc, etc. So what about just normal photos and video which is what the vast majority of people will be using this camera for !

    - still very bad soft quality in fullhd, the same old battery, no IBIS - you can't use the best trio lens from sigma (16/1.4; 30/1.4; 56/1.4), low buffer, the same 3 years sensor from a6300/a6500...

    I think nobody's gonna buy a freaking GM 24-70 2.8 to put on a APS-C camera. RUclipsrs should stop providing this as a solution to the lack of Sony crop lenses. Instead, while at those meetings with the company, start pushing for APS-C specific glass. I mean you are there and have the ability to speak to Sony reps no? You guys go there and instead of doing the obvious you start pushing this silly idea: 'Oh start using your FF glass on a 900$ camera. No matter that the glass itself is twice the price of the camera - just go for it.'

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  5 лет назад +3

      Trust me, I think everyone there pushed Sony on glass. I completely agree with you and the APSC lens lineup sucks. It's the main reason I sometimes recommend people away from Sony and over to Canon/Fuji

    The A6300 has an unacceptable long shutter delay (nearly a half-second) when using a camera mounted external flash (Sony or other) in PSAM modes. The 6500 is better but still long (0.3 sec). Did you have a chance to try some on-camera flash photography and is the problem fixed (hopefully)? Thanks.

    I don't really care about IBIS in the sony a6400 (or lack thereof) .. the IBIS in the a6500 was pure trash anyway. if you compared vlogging with the 6300 and the 6500, the difference was so minimal that its not worth the price tag of the 6500.. so for the 6400 not having ibis, im okay with cause its saving 300 dollars

    • @WargodFilms
      @WargodFilms 5 лет назад +2

      I've had the 6500 and the ibis was not trash and can not speak for vloging because I don't Vlog but can understand why you would think that holding it with one hand that amount of time or just standing. Of course the shakes is going to show all thru out. But if you use two hands and filming the subject in front of you it gets the job done very well. Maybe you should try the go pro hero 7 or the dji osmo pocket. Both light wait solid quality to get those vlogs looking right without the weight of a camera.

    • @MarksTech
      @MarksTech 5 лет назад +1

      Wargod Films yeah for shooting subjects in front of you, the 6500 ibis was pretty good. But for vlogging, it was horrible :(

      you are right. we are saving $300 without ibis. I have A6300 & A6500, and I dont see a big difference when using prime lens. For photos may be, but for video you will still need a gimbal. Don't know why everyone making big deal about it.

      @@learningcameras I have one on order to replace my A6500 as a lightweight camera to use on my gimbal for long days of hiking. My needs are: shoot in 4K, have great autofocus, and have an external microphone. The A6500 was a disaster as you couldn't see the screen outdoors when shooting 4K. Like you, I have some big concerns about losing IBIS, so feel this is kind of a short term Sony compromise. I hope they get a new model out soon that has IBIS. I really like the work they have done on the object tracking, and am looking forward to upgrading my A9 to V5 firmware.

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  5 лет назад +1

      For sure it will be a massive upgrade from the a3000 so from that perspective it would be a great choice. Also, not sure what specific drawbacks you are thinking but I absolutely doubt another camera will not have those same drawbacks unless it costs significantly more. So unless you have a budget over $1200 for a body only, I would get the A6400

    Great overview team Watson. Just a technical point; You should consider balancing the background music with your speech to camera better-I had to keep turning the volume up and down in between. Anyway, this camera would not tempt me away from my Nikon DSLR gear right now, even though I like mirrorless and shoot both stills & video. I feel that it should have IBIS, a fully articulating screen, better touch functionality whereby you can use it for everything (i.e. shooting, menus & playback), and Sony needs to put out more lens choices for their APS-C line-up.

      Hey!     • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  5 лет назад +1

      If you shoot video, yes. If you only care about photos, the quality hasn't improved much but there is a vast improvement to autofocus if you find your a6000 struggles and some little tweaks here and there that would make it tempting

    • @0ooTheMAXXoo0
      @0ooTheMAXXoo0 5 лет назад

      The viewfinder on the A6000 is too low resolution IMO. That and the touchscreen and AF seem great additions. The body is quite a bit bigger in the A6400 (much thicker) but it is not nearly as heavy as the A6300 or the A6500.

    Your reviews are great! BUT this camera isn't really an upgrade from the A6300 if we take away the flip screen - I believe we'd agree on that to a certain extent. You know what's my true vlogging camera? The Sony RX100-V (because the of the in-built ND-filter). Also, while I appreciate the always-ON EyeAF, we can still map any custom keys for that.
    I'm willing to see what Sony's plans are to replace/upgrade the A6500 though. Until then, I'll stick to my A6500 for quite some time :)

    Sony just doesn't want to change the design to save money. They could fix the issues but it would mean a redesign. Like a flip out instead of a flip up, a larger battery, usbc, a better touch screen. All that stuff would mean redesigning the body and for some reason they just are cheaping out on that.

  • @jmc1979
    @jmc1979 5 лет назад

    I think this is really an A6300 upgrade; the body, button lay outs and texture on the dials resembles the A6300.

    It'll be an upgrade/downgrade from my A6500 I don't care if it doesn't have IBIS my lenses have OIS I don't mind too if the buffer is not as big...it'll be the B cam and that AF system and new updated Eye AF amazing. Too bad they won't have this tech updated for my A7R II.
