you are the reason actually i bought camera, a7, then a7c and the biggest reason i bought samyang 85mm f1.4, then sold it and took tamron 70-180 f2.8 vxd.. thanks man, great video!
I think 85mm allows you to photograph without being seen, but also having to be further away is noticeable in the photo, they are colder. In addition, most of them vertically so that the entire subject comes out. I was thinking of an 85mm to take a street photo without getting close to people, but after watching this video I don't think it's a good idea.
You are very right here. It has its pros and also cons. Just remember that 85mm on apsc camera like a6400 is more like 130mm, so the “actual” 85mm is not that bad, but I get your point. Perhaps a 30-35mm lens which would give roughly 50mm focal length would be a sweet spot without being in the subjects face but also not being too far to not “feel” their presence.
@@TomsJurjaks Oh! It's true, since you were with APSC, that 85 was actually a 130, which is shooting a little far. Maybe the 85 in full frame feels a little closer... I don't know

Hey Tom! Love your videos especially the camera settings videos. I’m planning on buying a f1.4 prime lens but I’m stuck between the 35 or 50mm. Any suggestions? Mostly used for street photography. On one hand the 35mm will be great for landscapes but I’m worried it may not give me the range wanted for taking pictures of people around the street. Would be great to receive some feedback!
Thanks buddy! I think you can definitely go with the 30 or 35mm considering you will use it on APSC camera? 35mm has the focal length equivalent of 50mm on Full Frame which is “zoomed in” enough. Its also a lot more versatile. And lastly, with 50mm you will often find yourself with a back against the wall cuz you can’t step back more but with 30 or 35 you can always take a step closer. And I say 30mm because I only recommend one lens in that range and that is Sigma 30mm f1.4

Hey Mich, always a pleasure to read your comments! The Sony's 85mm is I believe great price performance wise, Sigma and Viltrox has some good reviews too, but to be honest, I would instead opt for the Sigma 56mm f1.4 because of several reasons: - It is APSC lens; - Lot smaller and lighter; - It is optically better, sharper; - It has faster aperture; - It is cheaper - And most importantly, the 56mm focal length on your a6000 is going to be close to 85mm focal length which in my opinion is great for so many photography styles. That for sure is a great argument! I love using the 85mm because im so far from people. Its just that its a lens that is hard handle 😀 so i usually dont recommend it for apsc shooters
would this lens be good for sports photography; having a sharp and continuing focus on the subject? I am considering getting one for my Sony a6000, thanks
I have the same fear 😃 Thats why I use the 85mm on crop camera which gives quite long focal length, so I can be quite far from them. Most of the people don't even notice that I take pictures of them.
how to let your sony a6400 took one pic when you press the button and non multiple shots i always suffer from taking a many pictures at a single press ..
You are free to do it in public spaces, however you should be very respectful and not insist if someone does not feel comfortable when they see you taking pictures. If you go very close, I would ask for permission to take photos of them, again out of respect.
Is it kind of legal to take pictures of people without their consent 🤔? BTW, I also have a6400 and looking to get that 80mm 1.8 full frame lens. How's the sharpness and auto focus performance of the lense on APSC? Asked about sharpness since I cannot zoom your images you are showing here 🙂.
Yeah it is completely legal if you shoot in public places like on the street. It won't be legal taking pictures in someones house for example. And the sharpness of 85mm is great! Even on APSC.
@@TomsJurjaks Thanks man for clarifying both of my queries. I can imagine the creamy bookeh with 130mm effective focal length on APSC, as I already use 90mm (equivalent to 135mm but 2.8).
Totally understandable and tbh you are not the only one! There are so many people who prefer to see the actual raw colors of the city. Thats why I always try to put the before and after for both crowds to enjoy 😎
I am a registered pilot as well as my drone is registered so I must comply with all the rules@@tpvnVids the law states that I cant fly OVER the city or 50m near anything, so I found an abandoned piece of land opposite side of the city and only flew over the river which is not a residential building thus being fully compliant. But I have no idea how others do it when you clearly can see them being over the city, they must be violating the rules.
@@TomsJurjaks i appreciate you're replying to my answer. My drone and I are registered as well but as you mentioned there are still rules to follow. Seems like either you are willing to violate the rules or you must really find tiny spots where you can fly with the drones. Thx anyway and keep up posting quality content! 👌
I most certainly am not willing to violate any rules :) 99% of the times I fly in nature, very far from any human being@@tpvnVids the other 1% is in cases like this where I truly do my research :) GeoZones also help a lot keeping the right altitude and stay away from airports. Sometimes I have to fly (for work) to film or photograph large private residences. Then I get a permission from the owner (since its for them) and if its in the authorization zone, then I get a permit from the authorities, so all good here! But I am glad you are keeping an eye on the community and that you are being compliant yourself. Unfortunately there are way too many irresponsible folks out there that would fly over airports if it wasnt for the geo zones. Cheers buddy and have fun!

would this lens be good for sports photography; having a sharp and continuing focus on the subject? I am considering getting one for my Sony a6000, thanks
Yeah i think so! Given the price point and its capabilities should be very good
@@TomsJurjaks Awesome, thanks!
Really liked your video . How do you use your phone as a monitor what's the app name ?
Just made a video about it, check it here: ruclips.net/video/puNohhOU3Ss/видео.html
Like!!
🇮🇹
Is this lense better than tamron17-70?
I'm looking for a sony ax6000, I can't find it, do you know the right place? I live in Ireland and I can go anywhere in the world. Can you help?
Try your local online markets. Ive found many being sold on those platforms
Great video! Does anyone tell you something about photographing y them? That is always my fear
I have the same fear 😃 Thats why I use the 85mm on crop camera which gives quite long focal length, so I can be quite far from them. Most of the people don't even notice that I take pictures of them.
what is your focus mode or settings
Usually WIDE and Continuous AF
how to let your sony a6400 took one pic when you press the button and non multiple shots i always suffer from taking a many pictures at a single press ..
Switch your DRIVE MODE to SINGLE SHOOTING. Most likely yours now is set to CONTINUOUS SHOOTING
Where did you get the camera wrap?
camskns.com
can i ask which app are u using while connecting to camera?
It will be better for you to watch this video I made specifically to answer the question of setup:
ruclips.net/video/puNohhOU3Ss/видео.html
What’s the focus mode you used in the Video?
I typically use AF Continuous with Wide focus area, but sometimes I would narrow down the area to some specific area.
really love 85mm. I wish I have one. 😄
If you every consider buying one, then I can tell you its worth every $.
How does the rules work with street photography...when taking pics of people
You are free to do it in public spaces, however you should be very respectful and not insist if someone does not feel comfortable when they see you taking pictures. If you go very close, I would ask for permission to take photos of them, again out of respect.
@@TomsJurjaks Got it. Thanks!
Do you ever ask people if they want the photos? or show them?
Honestly, I liked the RAW image more than the edited one ..😅
I prefer punchy ambient colors.
Totally understandable and tbh you are not the only one! There are so many people who prefer to see the actual raw colors of the city. Thats why I always try to put the before and after for both crowds to enjoy 😎
@@TomsJurjaks appreciate it sir. I subbed.
Street photography really feels illegal
In the UK, it’s really scary. Especially if you are new to photography.
Not really it depends
Why? There are so many cameras recording or photographing you every day... One more doesn't matter. Especially if you're pretty in the picture.
@@alfredjamesdelgado2037especially if your city isn’t known for tourists, you’ll be targeted for sure
Feels like freedom
what is this awesome song name?
can u use 28 f2 fe? on a6xxx? i have a sony nex5n :D
Yeah, all the E-Mount lenses fit a6xxx and a5xxx series cameras
Do you have one for videos
Hi sir what metering mode are you using in this video
Hey buddy, MULTI
How do you get the camera feed on your phone? Sony app?
I just publishes a video about it, see here: ruclips.net/video/puNohhOU3Ss/видео.html
The intro video was shot on the A6400?
Sony A7IV and also some drone shots
@@TomsJurjaksalways wondering how you guys take those drone shots within city areas. Isn’t it illegal?
