How to Play the Lizard in Dungeons & Dragons (Spider-Man Villain Build for D&D 5e)

- Today we have a build for Dr. Curt Conners, also known as the Lizard in Dungeons & Dragons. Turning into a monster is pretty useful against Spider-man, and it's pretty useful in D&D 5e as well!

Makes sense not to start with a lizardfolk as the character is a man that turns into a lizard-thing. Which means you could start with lizardfolk when using Mark Zuckerberg as he uses powers to look like a human-thing.

@@Americanbadashh Had no clue of his religion. Since the 90s there have been jokes that celebrities and government workers are just space lizards that control the world behind the scenes. Zuckerberg is a common target for that joke as there are clips of him not acting like a normal human would.

Can't believe that Tulok says the "Change Appearance" part of Alter Self is out of character, when it gives a non-resource version of becoming a lizard. One line of the "Change Appearance" section of Alter Self is "You can make yourself appear as a member of another race." Lizardfolk is a thing! (Also Kobold and Dragonborn, but you'll probably go Lizardfolk.)
I always love the jokes Tulok puts into these.

Yep! Being a father figure to Peter Parker is obviously a gateway to a life of crime. Or something similar.
I was expecting some artificer alchemist levels but druid does take care of that pretty well and I always like to see the rare barbarian caster multiclass.
MtG actually has a race of rhino-people called Rhox, so it’s not impossible we’d get a D&D conversion in the future.
Reflavor Loxodon race. It's what I would do. Trade out the trunk for say a gore/horn attack from the minotaur or satyr. And mostly you have the race.

Herpetology is Greek for ‘reptile studies’ but it traditionally also includes frogs and toads. Herpeto- as a stem is related to Latin serpens meaning snake, both of which ultimately mean ‘things that crawl’. That’s an actual herpetology fact as in a fact about herpetology
Earth elemental would technically be the most in-character option because you would just be a big rock lizard.
You know I wasn't expecting the lizard facts but I quite enjoyed the lizard facts.

Druidic as complicated science jargon is a great way to play it.
Actually think Rhino is a Goliath in a suit, so either a Totem Warrior Barbarian or that new Path of the Juggernaut with multiclass into Rune Knight Fighter or the UA Brute.
Definitely an armorer with Charger and some way of using Crusher. Dude's covered in a metal suit
I would make him a Mountain Dwarf Battlerager Barbarian/Armorer Artificer
This is more just live reacting for the algos than actual nitpicking but I'm so torn between "barbarian first feels more narratively accurate" and "druid first gives you more accurate saving throw proficiencies" but also who really cares. I'm barely into the video and already this is such a high tier build. You're so dang great 🦎🦎🦎🦎

The Komodo dragon is actually a venomous lizard.
When it bites its prey it chews the Venom into its bloodstream.
Along with the Gila monster and Mexican beaded lizard the Komodo dragon shares in spot as one of the three venomous lizards that can take down a human being!
There are a few other venomous lizards that were discovered however their venom is extremely mild not even being able to muster up the damage anywhere near an ant bite!

Makes for ta great villain build. Heck turning into an elemental even works if you re-flavor it as some kinda lizard.
Path of the Beast tail deals piercing damage, not bludgeoning, but I only know that because I was working on a beast barbarian build literally yesterday. Honestly, bludgeoning does make more sense.
But on the other hand, you can give your barbarian a thagomizer!

Funnily enough, there was a toyline called Marvel Shapeshifters where The Lizard gained the ability to transform into an alligator. So even taking it at face value, wild shaping into a normal crocodilian is technically fully in-character.
If Tulok ever did another of those stat builds like "getting high". Might I suggest "you & what army" a build that focuses on maximum (by numbers) pets/minions/allies build. Curious how broken that can become, if stacked right.
I was expecting to see some Artificer in this, but was genuinely surprised by the outcome and I love it.
My lizard brain made me like the video immediatly.

Omeprazole once a day fixes my acid reflux. I had to get it prescribed to get the 40 mg I needed, but man, it helps SO MUCH. Ask your doctor about it.

Counter build: Vooman Wizard with Hybrid Were-Crocodile form. Though granted, it's not gonna be AL approved and most DM's will likely want further restrictions because this can be heinous if unchecked.
(Hybrid Were form is a homebrew thing where the person can transform into a form that is BPS resistant to non-silvered weapons, for 1 x CON mod minutes, they also suffer from the Bloodlust Feature [under half health make Wisdom save or attack nearest creature,] as many times as CON mod per every 48 hours)
I have a request for a build please. Booker Dewitt from Bioshock Infinite. My guess would be Abjuration Wizard for the regenerating shield plus artillerist artificer for guns. Love the content as always. Keep it up!
While custom lineage makes sense, and I know that lizardfolk are basically Lizard as a lineage, i feel that a strong case can be made for a "mildly reskinned" Yuan-ti.

Have you considered making a Sunday show or for your patreon followers videos detailing which D&D race each character would be instead of human? I am sorry for the frustration you feel and do not mean this as a way to give into demand, so much as a thought experiment looking at a group of characters, (the Sunset gang of Kingdom Hearts, Team RWBY, etc), and then divining D&D races which thematically would fit the characters. Because you’ve done this with certain characters like Marluxia being a reborn, but I wondered if this could solve this problem since it seems consistent for you.

Reminds me of my pension for Brainy Brutes or Smart Muscle characters, Rhinox from Transformers, Panthro from Thundercats, and Winston from Overwatch in all of these cases Artificer is impeccable maybe throw in Knowledge Cleric for sage advice...and skills
Feels like wisdom should be lower and dexterity should be higher. I mean Connors decided to test lizard dna on himself! And the lizard is one of spider man’s most dexterous villains!

Hey tulok love your content I am currently trying to make Dr. Victor von Frankenstein in ghosts of saltmarsh the goal of the build is to create my personal flesh golem out of monster parts and find a way to gain eternal life. How would you pull this off?
One option for the starting race could be a shifter. Just needs some reflavoring since there is no lizard shifter 🤔
Wildhunt shifter is just "anything that stalks its prey," and Longtooth could easily be a lizard

alright based on the goals breakdown I'm predicting Druid, Artificer. and some flavor of Martial, probably monk but then again maybe not because we all know how teeeeerrrible monk is as a class
Before vid started: Alchemist Artificer / Beast Barbarian, take Eldritch Initiate Beast Speech, there just needs polish.

Custom lineage plus lizard Lycanthropy is the way to go for accuracy.
Dhampir druid is fun way. Dhampir is technically a vampire but there is no reason you could not re-flavour it as a carnivorous lizard man.
The way I'd go? Yuan-ti pure blood with lizard Lycanthropy. You get the human and lizard and the ability to talk to snakes and a plus to INT for artificer. Not very accurate but to hell with accuracy especially when it impedes fun!

Pre-vid prediction: I think we are actually getting a simic hybrid here, instead of lizardfolk, due to the scientific origins. Sage background, alchemist artificer/totem barbarian, perhaps? Very MAD, but possibly really neat?
