Major major spoilers for vanilla and downpour!
Mods used: BeastMasterPupExtras, Slugcat's Wardrobe + Dress My Slugcat, Five Pebbles Pong, uhh a lot of other stuff but those are the main three.

@@Foxett25 i cant say that the rot is a organic part of the iterator,more like a parasite,if you get tapeworms no one would say that they are a part of your body
well they do breath constantly just like us(except each exhale carries so much moisture that it causes the funny rain), you can hear the howling sounds in the interior

And to think, the ancients never bothered to try to make cellular iterators
I mean, they're kind of cellular, right?
Not even like a sort of drone that the iterator could project through and control, with sensory components too so they could actually experience the world.
I mean there's really no reason they couldn't have been. Moon is still mostly aware and all there even wth just a handful of neuron flies and her puppet. The ancients were just kinda awful

Now this gives me ideas. What if you could play as an Iterator? You are phenomenally powerful, have unique abilities and attacks, and you won't starve. However, you have an extremely short period of time to operate in, as without your life support and "actual" body, your puppet would soon shut down. So you have to use every tool and trick at your disposal to blast through the game as fast as you can before you shut down for good.
Or you play as the Slugcat and you bring an Iterator with you, like Pebbles or Moon. They could destroy most things, even Leviathans and Guardians, but they will only live for so long before they die, so you have to go fast to bring them to the Void Sea so they can ascend with you.

I believe most of their abilities come from their control of the gravity engines, or some other component in the cans, however they *do* seem to have very durable bodies, able to deflect spears as seen with moon (though she clearly still experiences pain from it)
The best "example" of this would be the seeker mod, which isn't finished yet, but....
this is what iterators are doing while you are stuck in outskirts on your first playthrough
My personal headcannon for this is that someone managed to make long range wireless puppets, then went around convincing everybody to use them to hang around like this. So the two 5p puppets are being controlled by the same consciousness. Weird, but not a duplicate. Like VR or the "link" in james cameron's Avatar
