You know the best part about all this wacky movement? A few moves actually have extra lil' animations/ effects, showing that they exist on purpose. Intentional content creation! HUZZAH!!!
The game's animations are all genuinely handled by the AI - it's one of this game's hallmark details. Also one of the reasons the animations can be so unsettling at times. But yeah, that'd be why they have special little animations - because the AI has to figure out a way to move the character like that.
@@CausticMedeim mate they're talking about the particle affects i believe, like when you do the turn and sparkles get out of it, you know?
@@insertanamehere8942 some things like the speed turn, that i think may have once been a unintended feature but as things progressed and folks found funky ways to move the dev accepted every find of movment and just made shure the game has movment paths for thoes of all skill with as sky the bridge area i forget were shows some jumps are ONLY made by double item throw boosting, thus it does mean the dev learned and made changes so theres some advanced skills like that the player needs to have learned by that point. im still barly on the ground floor with it all. as i got the game for the story and shinigans but god dam am i happy for the rest
I just got the game because it was on sale. I heard it was a far more advanced game than meets the eye, having advanced creatures and bizarre lore to the world.
*What I didn’t expect was that I’d be taking notes on how to just move around the game…*
Well, did you prepare a note for creature behavior?
You should see stuff about the creatures, it's what made me buy it.
I love how the harder a technique is, the more ridiculous it gets, with the last one letting you just skyrocket into the air from a standstill and convince your friends that you're using hax

13:03 this must be why it seems sometimes Slugcat can survive multi screen falls and other times randomly dies in places like the depths before ascension.
I never knew about this fall until yesterday, never died to fall damage but stupidly fell down the middle of the pit in the depths and splatted to make my first fall damage death minutes before beating the playthrough

just started playing this game and there is no way in hell that i would have know these moves are possible while looking for food, trying not to get eated, staying dry and trying to remember the way back to base. struggling at the moment but the game is growing on me
Oh yeah, most of it isn't necessary in basic gameplay. Once you get to the point where you're no longer actively fighting the game's movement, you can pull off some pretty crazy stuff!
I'm still trying to kill green lizards 😭 it feels like no matter how many spears and rocks i throw at them they only get a little tired and eat me a
@@cannibalman8175 do note that you can pull the spear back out of them and stab them again
@@insignificantduck313 I can reliably kill green lizards now, but sometimes I still die while trying to retrieve the spear. Is it possible to repeatedly stab them to death before they eat you?
@cannibalman8175 green lizards are harder because they're tankier than most lizards and are able to sometimes spin around while you stunlock them, so I'd recommend being careful around them. They're quite slow, so waiting a second to jump over them before taking the spear back out of them if they flip around is good. After ~3 spear hits they become quite weak
The movement and combat in this game have so much nuance, good stuff exposing more people to it!
This is an unbelievably well-crafted resource. Thank you and the community for all this intricate work. I'm speechless! The developers are geniuses, I'm convinced.
Man, the more I look into Rain World the more I want to play it. Good movement mechanics are one of the most underrated aspects of games and these look incredibly elegant. If only I had the skills or the time for this absolute beast of a game...
It's got a lot of depth to it, but it's also pretty accessible. Picked it up as someone with pretty low skill in platformers and am enjoying it thoroughly. Go for it, it's really good!
Old movement guide is now hidden to gain visibility on this one (the old contain lots of errors and some misinformations).

seems to be allot of momentem techs you can do with the gormond in particular since their slides are allot more slippery would like to see more techs on specific characters.
I love gourmand connoisseurs. Refined taste.
Have fun with all the characters btw !
@@fist_lorderino Could you record a full walkthrough of the game? With all of these advanced movements and tricks and maybe subtitles of your roleplaying comments it would be very interesting to watch.
Bear in mind that a front facing backflip can also be used to pin down a lizard, making it way more useful.
23:05 The vulture grub, oh my!
The most forbidden technique is the Singularit-egg Gravity Slingshot, but the Gamer can't even pull that off in the dating sim ending, so it's basically impossible.
(No part of this sentence is strictly untrue.)

Me: Oh, its a really in depth useful movement guide to one of my favorite games. Awesome!
My brain: NINJA SCUG
Learned to love rainworld movement because of your first vid now I’m ready for the second one
This was a good watch, I just cleared my first run and wanted to figure out the movement tech since I nvr could do a backflip consistently, also props for putting in all the animation examples, explanations, and frame data
Im on shoreline and finnaly getting close to making the wall jump on a consistent basis. Gotta thank your video for understanding the movement. It’s insane how happy I get for manadging to do smt so simple. I knew it would be hard (and it is) but Is hard to not fall in love with the game
Even without this online tutorial, I love the implication that because there’s no in-game tutorial on these techs, you’re expected to discover these things on your own either by experimenting or by accident. It feels like being a toddler who’s figuring out basic motor functions like running, climbing, picking things up and putting them back down.
Thanks for the guide! I finally learned to consistently whiplash, fruitscailing the wall, crawl turn fast fall, extended slide, directional throwing, fast pole climbing and turn momentum in just an hour!! (i already played the game alot, just not with technique practice)
I hope to learn pole hopping and turn storage next!
I'm always eager to see people learning movement
I wish you good luck for your next learning sessions !
Any creature below the gourmand gonna be praying when he does the Crawl turn fast fall
More than 1 year searching this video. Thank you so much
Always love to see Rain World getting love
I did a QCTJ and I felt like a god. I have about a 10% success rate.
i am losing my MIND several times i just had to pause, put my head in my hands, and go "what the fuck. what the Fuck". there is some WILD movement in this game
POV: You was furious about how you can't sprint untill you accidentaly did a backflip, and now you're here.
I’ve done pole backflips on accident so many times, and never got closer to understanding how I did it.
Thr last one literally just makes u fly
This entire thing is me just…
“Man, that looks easy!”
*tries it in-game*
“Why are we here? Just to suffer…”
Corpse flinging is basically a jump pad 💀
I'm not gonna sugarcoat it
(Rivulet + backflip corpse flinging)
I've been making macros for some of the tricks. The margin of error is so tiny just 10ms off between keypresses can break the macro, especially in EIHOP and Crawl Jump.
I like all the subtle details in rain world. Like they could've just added a meter that gets filled whem charging a leap, but instead they decided to show that slugcat is ready to leap by raising its back
Thank you for the guide! Started playing couple days ago. It was really help full!!
Get this man his Downpour!
Dude thank you so much I couldn't find any good video on rain world movement until this, it has helped so much!
I cannot wait to throw things upwards when downpour comes to console.
this helpful for everything below veteran because even though i have been playing for a few years my smooth walnut brain cant process this.

Before, I thought the games with Source Engine had the most complex movement mechanic in gaming, little did I know Rain World exists. Now I shall master it to be worthy of my username.
Wow, to think all this time I was a complete nooblet slug cat with no gamer skills. Now I can truly git gud
There you go :)
I was waiting for this
I am incredibly glad this exists. I caught on to much of rain world's movement tech on my own, and wanted to learn more advanced tricks that I knew must be out there because I saw others using them. Thank you for making this.
bro I combined some of these and my god, as im commenting this im sitting next to the lizard that i side flipped stuck a spear in its back as I flipped, took it out, mouth speared it, took it out, and wall jumped off a wall next to me, rolled under it, and i did a mini slide under it pushing the lizard up, and did another side flip and through the spear up into the lizards stomach as I was in the backflip animation, that felt so clean.
*can’t wait for rivialet and artificer move tech!*
You can also do a infanite spear climb if you enable grab spears from walls, and you press jump and grab at the same time, that's one I learned on my own,

This video is great for helping me understand all the times I've randomly super jumped to my death in this game XD

Very very good video. Cheers
What a chef's kiss of a video
Scugatatouille. Delicious.
This guide released at the PERFECT time for me.
I recently bought this game (alongside Downpour) and was originally planning to check out the old, now unlisted guide, and what do I see?
A new one is out, I am overjoyed, time for ninja.
8:42 based on what I've heard so far, that doesn't require the downpour dlc and rather just enabling extra throw directions in the rain world remix options on v1.9
though i imagine console doesn't have that either
Yes Remix is now avaible with the base game from what I've heard.
awww man, i was hoping to learn some neat trick with the wall pounce…. Still an insanely useful video though, thank you for all the work :)
Only thing i know is to slide into a random piece of rubble, get sent the opposite direction i wanna go and then die.
Too much I don't know about the move yet.
Still too soon, wall jumping deserve its on video tbh
TYSM IVE BEEN STUCK IN LTTM FOR SO LONG
Someday I'll learn the eihop and the qctj

HES BACK THE RAINWORLD SENSEI
I’ve been playing this game for a little over 5 years and I learn new things constantly
So do I
Dude I have fallen in love with this dope ass game. This is the only guide video that I'll allow myself to watch. Exploring and figuring out what the hell things do is so rewarding
Tip for practising sideflip (on keyboard):
-Wait untilt he slugcat picks up speed (don't wait too long or too short)
-"Flick" from Down and Direction Key to the Backwards Key with as little time as possible. Don't release the keys and then press, slide off the keys, when they're down, right before pressing backwards with the thrid finger. You will hear a sound difference.
-Tap jump in a rythmic fashion with the back key. You're doing two movements and the Jump Key presses with the start of each movement.
Imagine you're doing a backflip the second you slide
whiplash and artificer have a cool interaction
Is it just that it forces you to go the same direction when you double jump like if you jump the opposite direction it does a boomeranging type of thing? I thought it was something cooler.
Yeah me too at first, but you know now I think about it...
This might combo with wallpouncing to make wall climb in a funny way.
@@aarepelaa1142 you cant expect too much from something so simple.
@@didntmeantokillemtwasaaccident well maybe it has some weird use. But Idk if it would be beneficial in any way.
oh wow!
i thought i was getting pretty good at moving but it seems like i barely reached adept stage.
if i can manage to learn some more advanced movements i will get around some annoying parts SO much easier!
thanks for the well explaining video! 👍
Thanks dude
You are legend
As someone who plays Ultrakill, this feels like the same process of learning the most batshit insane things you can do with the controls all over again
man this is epic
I never thought I could do these because I couldn't get the frames right. Yesterday I accidentally did a side flip during a martyr challenge (gotta get to Sky Islands through starve cycles) and since then I've started practicing again. So far my most advanced techniques are side flip, pole flip, extended slide, and pole hopping.
These devs must work for AAA company and improve physics for some major games. They deserve it.
Thanks, this helped me to stop some deaths that lizards were gonna bring on me
thank you
i like how i only got rainworld this christmas and i already knew how to side flip from my friend
Truly a good friend
That fast swimming has been super useful in getting past the creeper kelp things. Thank you lol
They're called Monster Kelp, and yeah, frick them. Accidentally lineaged one in Outskirts on my first playthrough and my life was hell. Spears are your best friend for bypassing them.
@@Stiathirs sure, bet when you're facing them in Shoreline and in the one area of the Shaded Citadel, the better option is to fast swim near the base of the kelp so that they can't grab you. Sometimes you're not always lucky finding multiple spears in one area to deal with multiple monster kelps, so it's more efficient to just dodge them.
@@FortressWolf97 Yeah, that's what I did. Always just have a spear just in case they grab you. Or just be Artificer and concussive blast them when they grab you.
Pole hop on switch makes me want to backflip into a red lizards mouth
How about the last one on switch, lol.
Can't watch much cause of spoilers, but I skipped through and saw some cool trick jumps! Great vid!
12:14 I think I’ve done this with two living lizards that were fighting eachother. I accidentally fell in the middle of them and then bounced up far enough to escape
one question, is a "frame" a displayed frame or a physics frame? i havent looked into physics frames a lot but as far as i know the game runs at 40 physics frames/s (correct me if im wrong)
i would also assume it means physics frames, because downpour added a vsync option (i think it didnt exist before, again, correct me if im wrong) and you dont want the physics to change with the fps right?
It's a timing, that's all.
My only adivce is to consider this :
Try to press these keys at the same time but with a twist : make sure one finger slightly higher than the other before pressing at the same time. Once you found the perfect finger positions, it's all about practice and muscle memory, like anything.
This is what I do for Eihops and it just works.
@@fist_lorderino i see, thanks for the advice :)
I like how expert has pole climbing on the list.
But to the fast pole climbing rivulet can't do it because it just yeets itself too fast to regrab, and instead just kinda fails to grip the pole.
Or i guess it can i guess i just suck at fast pole climbing specifically on rivulet somehow.
It is definitely a lot harder with rivu at the very least.
I gave up doing this as Rivulet and opted for pole wall climb (boosting on pole, then jumping from it to cancel end lag and wall jumping)
This tech is shown in the doc in the pole section.
Rain world movement is the mario 64 movement of indie games
imagine you see a cat on the ceiling that know how to slide throw
Turn storage is way easier than it may sound (specially if using slide to so so) and is very useful in doing "front flips". Item wall climbing is also mechanically easy to learn, though one may need practice to perfect it.
this is indeed new
Recently reviewed the old guide, the new one is not so cool looking but it's more useful!
Wow I'm impressed, I'm going to teach my slugcat parkour yay
So far the hardest move is chaining rolls but other than that I'm getting the hang of it, which is good because if my hopeless ass can successfully pull off these move it means you made a great tutorial
Yesterday I practised the first video for an hour...
Gonna use this guide I just bought the game yesterday on instant gaming.
I also buy games on instant gaming but I gotta say...
These indies developpers need money to make better games like this gem'
Wow, fantastic guide! Really well done!
But I think some of these I'd want macros
