      I agree… any thoughts on the piston arrows?

    • @donsrestorations
      @donsrestorations 3 года назад +2

      @@MyChannel-d2e Definitely towards the exhaust. When you align the rings on the piston, the meeting ends are never aligned on the arrow side, otherwise you would get blow-by. There is some really good youtube/google info about this you can research. A manual for the engine would be best but if you follow industry standard practices you will prolly be ok.

    • @MyChannel-d2e
      @MyChannel-d2e  3 года назад

      Yes I need to find a manual somewhere!! I know on two strokes it is VERY important to not have the rings line up with the arrow at the exhaust or intake but it probably doesn’t matter as much with a four stroke cause it doesn’t have the ports in the cyl like a two stroke but I’m still gonna do it like u said for good practice unless the manual states otherwise. Thank u so much for your great advise!!

    I wouldn't leave the rings uninspected. Time for a good shop manual and careful inspection. Might want to be sure those aren't aluminum cylinders before going hog wild on honing them? On many they use a silicone hardening process on the aluminum and it is only a few thousands thick. Once you go through it it is toast as the rings will eat up the unhardened aluminum in a heartbeat.

    • @douglasthompson2740
      @douglasthompson2740 Год назад

      @Wes Harris I never found it to be cost effective and most did not design enough meat in the walls to allow boring out enough for sleeves. Plus where I am you add the cost of shipping (most shops doing this are set up for it as it isn't designed for it. Issues of heat transfer, etc.) and it didn't make sense. Some makes and models lend themselves to it but it isn't cheap.

    arrows point to the front of the engine on a lot of engines but get a manual, cause you gonna need it to check tolerances as you go deeper into it. honda's are more expensive to work on but are good engines and you will be ahead to stay with stock installation unless you find the bottom end trashed. frankenstein predator will add delay to the project unless honda parts can't be found locally. manual first, then u can make an informed decision.

    Bought a 2009 Mod 4430 at auction and it was apparently abused beyond description. Do you know of any source of buying used engine parts like a cover plate for the CVT filter housing? That's today's challenge. I've spent all my time this past year just finding parts;

    • @MyChannel-d2e
      @MyChannel-d2e  2 года назад

      Awesome man!! Go on google and u can find parts through messicks there were a dealer for them, however parts are really expensive, does yours have the same Honda engine as mine? If so u can find parts for it on eBay. A lot of the parts like bearings you can look on the numbers on the bearing or seal and find ones that fit that way. When ya'll started working on this machine it seemed that every bolt was either cross threaded or an American nut was screwed on a metric bolt. Seems like every one. As ya'll move along it seems to go from bad to worse. The character who worked on this machine was a total idiot. Be nice to find out who he is in your local area so as to try to straighten out more "fixes" than just this machine. Seems like a young guy without any preparation into the adult world. Probably someone who doesn't have older brothers or a father even. My older brothers taught me a lot and by 9 or ten I could show my father how to fix stuff. He seemed to be an adequate carpenter but as for mechanics, well.
