    I totally respect 1A Auto. I've saved thousands of dollars buying parts from them and watching the videos. Been able to do most repairs myself. The parts are reasonably priced and convenient. I really appreciate that they sell the water pump with the thermostat and housing built in. It makes things sooo much easier.

    Should clean them filthy pulleys before reinstalling serp belt. Could cause premature belt failure and or squeak. Would also flush old coolant out and change out factory spring clamps with regular radiator clamps. Otherwise, fine job.

    In addition! Wondering how much GM approved coolant you’ll need to replenish the system? I bought 2 GALLONS of concentrate and it took a little more than 1 gal. once I diluted it so in essence a little more than 2 gallons when mixed with half water!

  • @Nu_B_N-I_T_O_P_N
    @Nu_B_N-I_T_O_P_N 3 года назад +1

    [FYI] You will also need a 15mm socket to remove the tension pulley. What is not shown is the flushing system process and this installation came with the thermostat installed/included but if you have already changed the thermostat like I did... you will use the 10mm socket to remove/reinstall the thermostat housing on the new pump. I’ve been troubleshooting a overheating problem for a while and I hope that this is the resolution to my problem!

      Yes, you absolutely want to use loctite on the bolts so they don't loosen up due to vibrations. and some sort of automotive grease for the gaskets to keep them in place
      Edit -
      High temperature automotive grease

    • @PhinAI
      @PhinAI 3 года назад

      Petroleum degrades rubber. If you insist on using a grease on these gaskets, make it a high temp silicone-based grease. Not necessary. Clean your mating surfaces well, and apply your gaskets. Torque as presented in this video.

    • @ddtforu
      @ddtforu 2 года назад +1

      @@ls4.8frank The alternator and water pump are items that in a lot of cases have about the same lifespan and usually the additional effort/cost is minimal when already doing the water pump and have the belts off etc. Usually doing a WP around 100-150k, so by that time alternator is close and if you can replace it for under $200 and have peace of mind until 250k miles it makes sense. Same with the belt. If you don't plan on keeping the vehicle long then it might not make sense, but for a vehicle you plan on keeping it makes sense in a lot of cases.

    Great video but I did it myself and the engine over heated, so I took it to Goodyear and it cost my dad $536 to fix it. They told us that they're has to be some grease on the gaskets and some kind of tape on the screws so that it doesn't leak through the screws which isnt in the video. They said I did a great job with everything but I just missed some things. Also I put in a brand new thermastat and it didnt work

    • @upnorth5465
      @upnorth5465 4 года назад +9

      It overheated because you did not bleed the cooling system of all the air trapped inside. There is no thread sealant used on these water pumps on the 5.3 or the 6.0. You certainly don't want to use any type of grease on any part of this type of repair. That shop is feeding you a bunch of crap. This video is the same way as I have done dozens of these in my shop. Only difference is I don't mess with anything but OEM GM pumps on these LS engines or you will be doing it again in a year or so guaranteed.

      typically there is a weep hole on the pump that will allow coolant to drip out when the bearing shaft seal is going bad. I had heard that it is normal for some coolant to come out of that hole but in my experience it is an indication that the pump is going bad soon.
