Hey, congrats on picking up volleyball. But considering your so new to the sport, you should really learn the basics first. Make sure your standing serve is at its best, and you can aim it, before you move on. Good luck
The reason I'm here: I want to start jump serving since I recently watched haikyuu, i've been playing vball for a few years and cant do this type of jump serve (I can only do a mediocre jump float, and a standing top spin)
You make the jumping and catching the ball at its highest point look so easy! It took me half an hour to even start catching the ball properly xD I don't train at a club, but just play for fun on a school playground. It must have looked pretty weird seeing a girl consistently throw up a ball and then jumping while failing to catch it. It did really help to hammer in the footwork and arm swing! After about 50 min, I started trying to hit the jump serve, but eventhough I began my first step when I threw up the ball, I kept being late, hitting the ball with my wrist and such. Do you have any more tips on timing the throw and jump?
Haha, thank you! I'll try the faster footwork, since I'm already tossing quite high (at least it feels pretty high). Also, I'm going to start playing at a club in August, thank you so much for spiking my interest in volleyball again!
I was practicing at a basketball court in a playground and I’ve spent a lot of time practicing just serves in general with no experience with volleyball. Lol.
try tossing the ball higher, maybe you are hitting the ball at the height of you re head so you are hitting the ball down, try hitting the ball with your arm extended, hope it helps

Hey Donny, thank you so much for all the content on your channel. It's clear you love the sport, and since I love the sport I love it. These videos make me feel like volleyball isn't a dead sport, that it's alive and has followers struggling and trying to improve. Cheers man!
i feel like whenever i serve, i’m hurting something because i’m doing something wrong . my neck and back kinda hurt but i don’t know what i need to fix.
Either what Angelica over me said OR you are "stomping" your foot onto the floor too strong. That can shake your body and produce back pain. Next time, try checking how your body feels the moment your "Jumping foot" hits the ground. If it feels uncomfortable, try getting a mor fluent movement into your run up and bend your knees a bit more, which should get some weight out of your back
Idk if you're trying to learn it rn or not, but you should learn it after about a year or two depending on how old you are and how developed your athletic ability is.

Have you improved yet? I really hope you did! I wanna make it to the school volleyball team to. Hello! I’ve been doing good with receives, passes and sets, but always bad with serves cuz I lack power. A normal float serve is not enough for me so I had to do underhand most of the time. But if I were to spike a serve, I needed to jump and it’s worked out 50-50. Right now I’m learning to do jump serve and I’ve always been doing high tosses with gives me no progress. Any tips of how I can practice on throwing low tosses so I can get it over and have good control?
Thanks Coach! I've used some of your tips in training my son. He's 12 playing on a U14 team and now has a pretty good top spin jump serve. Check him out! ruclips.net/video/IYuShjTkF0Y/видео.html
Hi Donny! Could you make a video on how to drive the ball downwards when spiking? I'm having so much trouble on this :( I'm not sure whether it's my body position relative to the ball, my swing timing, swing contact angle, my wrist snap...It always seems to go long out of the court. Thanks! (Much support from Vancouver!)
Main ideas 1. Toss the ball high enough and forward enough for you to hit it properly. 2. Bring arms down then jump as soon as you’re about to hit it. 3. Open up to the ball to drive more power into it
im left handed but throw with my right, which ive noticed forces me to start my approach with my left food, which kinda fucks up my left handed approach (for spiking), Im still new so maybe theres something im confusing or something or yeah... maybe im just overthinking it but I dunno.
first, oikawa from haikyuu!! bought me here. But my serves are really bad T-T. Looking forward to you being a part of a famous volleyball team then!
I totally can relate to your story, except i’m a guy and there was no guys volleyball for my school. So i’d just practice with the girls team for fun or just get guys from my football team to play with. But NOW I’m trying out for a club!
The hight toss is the Oikawa one if your wondering
I loved this! I am in team a in my volleyball team and I wanted to get better at jump serve so thank you
If you are here from haikyuu comment who’d you wanna be out of all the characters!
Mans really do be Oikawa tho
Nice, trying this out today..
Hello umm Elevate I've been trying to jump serve for 2 weeks and whenever I serve it always goes down what do I do? What am I doing wrong?
My friends all laughed at me when I tried T-T
Main ideas
1. Toss the ball high enough and forward enough for you to hit it properly.
2. Bring arms down then jump as soon as you’re about to hit it.
3. Open up to the ball to drive more power into it
Thank u
Been playing for 5 months thank you coach donny for helping me learn how to jump serve and jump float serve
Yamaguchi: *taking notes*
im left handed but throw with my right, which ive noticed forces me to start my approach with my left food, which kinda fucks up my left handed approach (for spiking), Im still new so maybe theres something im confusing or something or yeah... maybe im just overthinking it but I dunno.
I’m telling y’all, oikawa taught him
first, oikawa from haikyuu!! bought me here. But my serves are really bad T-T. Like I was the only one who have no idea how to serve properly, but thanks to your "how to serve a volleyball tutorial' videos, I have something to practice from now on! Thanks anyway and I admire your skills! Do you have any videos in receiving and blocking sir?
Do you need to have a high vertical to be able to pull off a jump serve with top spin?
i’m not so sure, but i think yeah bc it’s a jump serve and jumping increases the power
I have done spike serves but realize i put so much power into it i make it fly farther than the Volleyball court...
I feel that half of the people watching this finnished Haikyuu and started watch actual volleyball games and wanted to start playing it as well because I know there's a lot of you weebs out there who are crying because it's going to end and are trying to get over when we all know that will never happen.☺🙂😅😓😔😟🙁😢😭
Thanks for this video! ive been needing it to coach myself and my team! I really wish that you could coach us haha!
My volleyball center only has about 5 Feet of room so I have to do the floating serve
A jump float? (Sorry for being 3 years late)
I'm glad you teach people how to play! I wish I could get lessons in person! I can't wait to play soon! I will try these techniques.
Elevate Yourself If I'm a lefty, is it hard to jump serve? Because i am a left handed person
kind of a late answer. No man It's the same thing but every step is done with the other hand, foot :P
Jan Jaydee Quierrez ^
Hippity hoppity it's sejoh property
Oikawa will now take over
Hehehe his favourite food is milkbread
What if you don’t have a good run up. In the gyms I play there’s extremely little space to run up for a jump serve. How do I make up for that?
I'm really glad that I've found this channel and love watching it. It helped me a lot to improve my skills (and is still helping) even after 3 years of Volleyball practise/playing ...and your English is easy to understand for me ^^
Thanks from Germany
@@ElevateYourselfOfficial lol speaking of him he just performed the new worlds fastest spike
Oikawas jump serve is so damn cool so i decide to watch coach donny
You made me realize what I’ve been doing wrong for years!! Thank you so much! I wish I found this video sooner!!
I did 5 good jumpserves like 6 hours ago i had to get the timing right or my serve will just either fall through my serve or it just misses completely
I TOO CAME BECAUSE OF HAIKYUU
I'm very hurt my wrist
2 reasons why i‘m here
-haikyuuuuu
-and i want to be the best in my sport class 😬
Oikawa's Serve Brought me here..
I copied your jump serve and it works pretty well for me. it also helped me time my spikes better. so thank you very much
Thank you now I can jump serve better but I can't hit it lower sadly.
You should make a video on reading the opposing hitter.
+ElevateYourselfNow Yes, reading in defense. I guess, from a libero's perspective. A lot of your content relates to front row players. I think it would be great to put out content for DS's. It gives variety.
I wish I can get a coach like u
Anyone else get this after watching Nuji Nishida wreck Canada's team?
On my opinion, low serve toss is better
Its like the serve of Kageyama in Haikyuu
