    16:42 you can see clearly the smile in his eyes when he got the point of being a little bit low and being able to receive better instantly (after the Pro review), its like a Hinata Shoyo after getting his first good pass. As a setter i also give this tip(being low to react fast) to all receivers in my team and its been really usefull.

    These videos with Gage are incredible gems for transitioning into a bit more advanced play, where I've felt a lot of frustrating plateaus in my ability and the need to branch out & explore what I am really comfortable with... similarly with the content Dustin Watten has been putting out lately, I'm sure you've seen those too :)
    I especially like the smooth low-high philosophy you guys talked about. I rarely ever leave youtube comments but thank you SO MUCH for these videos! It wasn't so long ago that I learned how to put a basic platform together from your tutorials :)

    I play badminton. You should try the other version of the split step where you don't jump up. You drop down by widening your feet by a couple inches. I find that it's faster and more explosive.

    I went to Pac Rim facility to do lessons with the Donovan Constable, and he mentioned that Joe is a really great setter who happens to set similarly. Will there be another setter video with Joe? If so, can you talk about cushioning the ball or having “sticky hands” (like holding onto the ball for a small amount of time instead of only pushing outwards)?

    To me it looked like Coach Donny wasn’t moving OFF of the split step.
    I saw the split step, a tiny moment of being stationary, and then the push off the feet to go for the ball.
    Tough for Gage to hit the down ball and see if the timing of Coach Donny’s split step was there.

  • @greghetrick5804
    @greghetrick5804 6 месяцев назад +8

    Sorry, but I’m not understanding why Gage is always bending his platform after passing. I’ve always been coaching that you keep your arms extended and freeze platform for 2-3 secs after ball release

    • @kai_0220
      @kai_0220 2 месяца назад +1

      it depends if ur getting a free ball, or a hard ball...usually on hardball we just keep our arms firm and extended, While On free ball we are focusing on targetting our ball placement, so bending our platform makes it quite easier to pass, and additionally from experience, it stops from over recieving the ball....this is just my opinion as a libero aswell

  • @margykennedy463
    @margykennedy463 2 месяца назад

    Then, when you adjusted to the lower stance, it forced you to be slightly forward on your foot and you were much quicker and could get around the ball more consistently! Nice! And how astute of the libero to pick up on the stance and for you to make a change without being defensive about constructive help.

      I need clarification too 😂 I just told my girls at AAU that we do NOT want to give the other team a free ball with an overpass and that we would rather have the balls on our side off the net.

    • @bradmckavanagh7202
      @bradmckavanagh7202 6 месяцев назад +9

      ahh pro setters usually jump set and make contact higher than the net so makes sense why over would be easier for the setters they play with, don't apply this if your setters dont jump set or are under the net.

    Donnie, I see before your tip from pro, that you start flat foot, and your split step seemed to be heels instead of toes. The libero seemed to be slightly more on the balls of his feet rather than his arch or heel.
