My favorite part of the video is when you pulled a microwave out of the trunk lol.
Excellent tip for the luggage, I would have never thought of that. Well done and thanks for sharing this with us
Recently bought a GL1500 and your videos have been invaluable. Today I did the gear change modification which is brilliant! Now all I need to do is sort out the wiring butchery. Thanks for the great videos and advice.
Great to hear mate, thank you for your kind feedback! Have fun with your new bike!
First of all, it was great hearing Penny’s mellifluous voice. And…You are something else, Brother! That microwave must be 12 volt I guess… pop me in a nice pasty please…. Quite a trick with lifting up the Goldwing’s skirts. 😎
Have a great week there… 🏍👍🏍
Thank you kindly Sir, it is the 12v model, we upgraded from the clockwork one when the main spring went... and the M-I-L didn't have a spare truss support I could fabricate a new one from! Have a great week, keep safe both (and PP says 'Thanks!', she's always keeping watch the background)... D&Px

I have carried out the rebuilding of my GL1100 rear disc calliper on a couple of occasions, much easier on the naked 1100 as there is plenty of access to the calliper itself. I used stainless steel pistons on the rebuild as I hoped they would fair better in our climate. I purchased them, and the assorted seals etc from a company based at Chesterfield called Powersports. They do a huge range of bike relating braking components, they also will undertake the refurbishment of old callipers if you don’t fancy doing the job yourself. On examining the new pistons it was obvious that the final diameters of them had been finished by precision grinding as opposed to just being a turned finish. Much better in my opinion. Strange thing is that when I went to their facility to pick up my kit I thought that recognised the Manger of the sales department. We starting speaking and it then dawned on me as he was the chap who purchased my Kawasaki Zephyr 1100 several years ago. The bike only had a few thousand miles on the clock and was in immaculate condition, it had never seen rain and was kept in my heated garage from new. He still has the bike, in fact it’s on display in the workshop there. To be honest I wish I had never sold it as I have never seen another Zephyr that was in such great condition. I obviously asked if I could buy it back off him, but he very politely said no! I think the Zephyrs are starting to be appreciated as modern classics, and they are becoming a bit sought after. Couple of things to add Del, I always use a brass haired wire brush when cleaning bike parts, I think it’s a bit kinder to the parts you are cleaning. My old Dad used to soak corroded fasteners with a bit a diesel for a day or to before trying to loosen them. He used to call it ‘poor-mans penetrating fluid’. Great content Del, love your work and passion for the old Goldwings. I will not make the mistake of selling my venerable old GL1100 as I did with the Zephyr. I think she is a keeper!
I totally agree Michael, Diesel or Kerosene work really well as a soaking penetrant, and yeah, keep the 1100, they're getting rare now and still more reliable than a Briggs and Stratton diesel ..!
Thanks for all the videos and your hard work..Cheers
My pleasure!
.....Spring in a minute, love that optimism and timescale
Comfy, I'm Glad The Seat Was Comfy and Liked When Penny Laughed 😅 Penny and You Del Stay Healthy and Ride Safely.
Hey Paul, it was comfy indeed, but i don;t think the grey goes with the black, so i won't fit it permanently..lol! have a great weekend too sir, and keep safe.
Well this will definitely help in changing my rear tire!
Brilliant Del, like the others the microwave was pure comedy gold
Thanks mate, just a bit of fun to lighten the mood at these difficult times.
I just love that phrase "very easy I will show you". Hope both of you are doing well. Let's call it stage 2 recovery,ha? Thanks a lot!
Our pleasure Boril, we're really glad you enjoyed it my friend.
Ok, Now I know to how to use the anti-seize. Thanks again.
Awesome gonna do this to my wing gotta clean and rebuild the rear caliper. Thanks a lot for your videos.
Most welcome Sir, good luck with it!
That is a great idea for getting to the rear wheel
That was such a treat seeing, thank you so much for making a video showing a easy way to access the brakes. Very helpful and made my day.
Glad it was helpful mate, thanks for your kind feedback.
You by far the best on youtube, your videos are great, full of information and camera shots are the best. Keep up the great work and thanks.
Thank you so much for your kind words of support, we're glad you enjoy the videos.
Nice video work overall! Loved the microwave in the truck...great humor! Cheers!
The microwave 😂😂😂
Awesome video, very informative and detailed. Thank you for sharing.
Most welcome.
I actually spat my tea when you pulled the microwave out of the back box! Genius!
Well i have to have somewhere to warm my pasties... price of food in cafes these days it's DIY catering now..!
MICROWAVE out of the Trunk..... Brilliant!!!! See I told you a little bit of humor in a video ALWAYS makes it better! It doesnt need to be every single video just every now and then. Fantastic. Delboy for the WIN! Delboy for Prime Minister! Even better Delboy for the next regen of The Doctor!
It was very funny moment
Thank you kindly Sir, we're glad you approve... more to come!
Thank you so much for yet again, another well put together video to simplify our lives when it comes to overwhelming tasks. You have my respect and admiration. Keep up the great work.
You are so welcome Sir, am glad you enjoy what we do!
I thought my Deauville was a pain in the rear when it came to stripping the plastic off... Great video as usual, and quite therapeutic watching someone else working. 🙂 I've just overhauled my brakes too, but I do wish I had a bike lift rather than having to bogger up my knees.
I just love your video's and the detail you describe. I just tried to get my muffler off to change rear end fluid and could not budge it even after soaking it in penetrating oil. I seen when you reinstalled your mufflers you only used a nut driver and only hand tighten it. After seeing that I better go loosen mine up. Thanks again for a very informative video.
brother I died laughing when you pulled out the microwave out of the trunk 😂😂😂 great job on the maintenance task ! cant wait for the next project reveal!!! stay safe guys cheers from new york !!!!! 🍺🍺🍺🍷🍷🍷🍷
Thank you brother, just having a bit of fun, and anyway how else would I warm up my lunch!! Have a great week and thank you for your awesome constant support, D&Px
I don't know what else that top box is used for?
You forgot the kitchen sink! 🤣 Classic. Great job guys.
Thanks buddy, I reckon I should get you to install me a skylight on it as I see you're pretty good at it!
Very good Mr Del, we enjoy your videos very much, always great
Glad to hear it Naresh, thank you!
Yes!! good reflex, coper greace..
I like the backend flippy flippy action.
A blanket and two mugs? Perfect for that night ride and bonfire date! You are the smooth operator! But the microwave might kill someone from all the extension cord needed.
Ah yes, us old romantics know how to roll brother.. a date under the stars with the bride is a joy all of it's own.. and of course there's no extension lead, that'd be silly.. it's a coal fired oven of course..!
We do know how to woo the ladies. A little coal dust and smoke in the face... now THAT'S a sure-fire way to their hearts!
@@DrRockter5150 Dammit we know how to spoil them..😂😂
Goldwing brake cleaning step #3 - “Remove microwave oven”.
For a second I was like “Wait, they come with a microwave??”
You got me.
Thanks buddy, just a bit of fun since I replaced the hay box with the new 1000w Zanussi pie warmer!
I nearly spilled my tea over the keyboard when you took that microwave from the topcase!
Günter from Nürnberg/Germany
Sorry Günter, should have posted a warning.. (Domestic appliances my appear at random in this video)..lol!
@@Moonfleet41 What still bothering me is that you forgot to put that microwave back to the topcase!
@@Moonfleet41 ;-) LOL
@@vvevvevvvv Sorry, i couldn't get it in while the washer dryer was running..!
I've heard of rotating the whole mess up like that before but never really understood the process until now. Beautiful job good sir. Cheers.
Most welcome mate...Glad it was helpful!
Rumor has it. That microwave actually plugs into the bike
Only on the 92 or before models since then they're now bluetooth!!
Nice trick! Wating for the new project... and summer!
You and me both mate !
Brilliant !
Now that was an Awesome trick. I don't own a Goldwing, but thanks for sharing! I've subscribed.
Welcome aboard David and thank you!
My son has a 1500 Goldwing. He does much the same thing to access the rear wheel but he does not remove the mufflers to get the wheel off. Instead, he disconnects the shock lowers and this allows the axle to go lower or higher than the mufflers so it can be removed easily. If you are working on a Valkyrie you pretty much have to remember this trick since the mufflers are one with the headers and requires them to be removed from the heads.
I have to drop the mufflers off (or at least unbolt them) as they're connected to the underside of the boxes.. but thanks for the tips on the Valkyrie, a friend has one and it'll be helpful !
Hey Del and Penny, great video and great tip with the baggage in the back. I thoroughly enjoyed the de-microwaving of the top trunk, by the way. Thanks as ever and looking forward to Friday's video with much anticipation.
Glad you enjoyed it mate, just a bit of fun and really looking forward to the new project reveal!
Brilliant
Great tip on lifting the back box up. I half expected to see a bit of astroturf and a picket fence come out of it too.
Next time mate! The astroturf was away at the laundry... and the picket fence had been borrowed by the knights that say 'Ni'
Back to showroom condition. Great job, Del.
Absolutely, as long as the showroom is run by the Munsters lol Thank you for your kind and generous help Sir, always good to hear from you, hope life is good.
Sehr gut 👍
Geez!! I could have done that on my Goldwing!!! Only extra step I have to take my trailer hitch off… another issue… my garage is 8-9 feet high ceiling so hava do it outside.. great video!!! I don’t need worry bout rear brakes for while as it was done while back!! Thank you for sharing!!! 👍
Glad you enjoyed it, and yes, an easy trick that saves so much time.! in real time that job (when not filming it) takes me under an hour done and finished.. but i bet the Honda dealer doesn't quote that..lol!
@@Moonfleet41 … they certainly don’t tell anyone but grab much moola they can… btw…. I looked in my garage, I suspect can be done, put steel tube across the garage door rails where brackets are. ( could work) …
Where’s the generator for microwave?? Wink!! Lol…… OR…. Is it solar power?? ( you sure have lots comments on this!!)
😂silly sod. I do love a good shortcut tip though and as for the picnic rug, maybe it’s a Dorset thing, but I always have my stove and kettle on board. A ride out with my better half usually involves tea! ( and of course cake), 😊... I’ve reached that age.
Ha ha, i too have reached that age too Sir, i have the stove and two-cup-kettle, and all day trips out involve a brew stop for sure.
@@Moonfleet41 Awesome! :)
After watching the first part (front brakes) I went to wheel my 800 Tiger out of the garage and found the brakes binding really badly. Coincidence or what, anyway due to watching that last video I had all three calipers off and cleaned and back on in no time. Nice one Del....
Most welcome Sir, that's what it's for, sharing a few tips so we can all help keep each other safe.. have a good weekend mate and take care.
Excellent idea! I'm going to try it on a Goldwing tire change tomorrow. It looks like it sure beats taking half of the bike apart to remove the rear wheel.
It is a lot less work.. it can be a bit tricky lining up the holes when you drop it back down..but way easier than a rear end strip... Have fun!
Mad Max Honda Goldwing - Niccceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Nice video Del & Penny. Job well done mate and I love the trick to get to the rear wheel, looking forward to the next one and the new project . Penny and you have a great and safe week. Cheers
Glad you enjoyed it mate, and always great to hear from you! Really excited about the new project and raring to get stuck in! Take care, ride safe, D&Px
OK I like how you keep the side battery cover from yeeting itself into a ditch.
Nice video... won me over...
Question, do you have to remove the bolts in the saddle bags or just loosen them? Seems like they would be very difficult to put them back in.
I just disassebled everything for no reason. Nice.
I have never seen the trunk and bags tip up method before. Interesting !
Glad it was helpful!
Ye loved the microwave. Must b the very old moddle that had kitchen sink
Yes, you are right, but only a small hand sink, lol!
Dont think even Matt could argue with that.
My buddy has a gl1100 . 4 pot boxer. Totally naked stock . Not even the half fairing model ..
It's incredible how they evolved over time . Especially when you look at TMF's space ship ..
Great vid Del and good to learn the tricks for access .
Peace and love to you and Pp 👍🏻☮❤
Sure is buddy, Andy's bike is like the Starship Enterprise compared to my Noah & Nelly Skylark !
@@Moonfleet41 All aboard the skylark!
😀
That thing makes my Road king look like a toddlers toy in comparison. Like a two wheeled freight train:p
Ha ha, yeah, that's a pretty accurate analogy, It's not as heavy as it looks though, only 10kg heavier than my Street Glide, and carries that weight a lot lower too, so once it's moving, there's almost no weight at all.
Man what a faf and thats the workaround! Del seriously most 'wing owners just remove the rear caliper in winter and refit in summer. Much easier mate 😉
Dammit, why didn't i think of that..lol!
poor poor goldie, del maybe an idea ,install a tube over tha rear brake so you can rinse it daily with a seringe /spraybottle whatever.
fill it preferbely with luke soapie water, get off the most of the salt. macgyver some . i already have a name for it.
dbr , short for, dels brake rinser.
make room for the money that comes in me think its plenty dont forget me wrechbro.
As always.....great entertainment. Microwave in the topcase🙈
Looking forward to the next project.
Warm regards to you and penny☮
Thank you! You too!
hmmm ya got me thinking 🤔
This video was great! So I can do this procedure to remove rear tire?
Hi Del, how about a full clutch replacement for the 1500 goldwing, friction plates and discs, now the would make a fantastic viewing video, regards Cliff Matthews
I was just waiting for the kitchen sink to pop out from some ware.
Thanks mate, gotta have somewhere to warm me pasties!

Hello and thank you for this video. Is it really necessary to remove the exhausts to be able to lift the cases this way?
I need to access the flasher relay for the flashing lights in order to replace it. It is located below the top box, at the level of the fender.
Thought you were going to pull out the kitchen sink from that back box. !! Lol. Good content on cleaning the brakes though mate. 😎👍
Thanks Nick.. had no room for the sink once i got the fridge freezer in..lol Glad you enjoyed the video mate, thanks for your feedback.
Great videos chap. I am totally grateful that my CB500X is easier to work on than that! Subscribed.
Thanks for the sub and welcome aboard Peter!
At least it didn't have the kitchen sink in there aye and those end cans they look more like the Dartford tunnel 😂

Thanks Marc, they are some big pipes them aren't they?! ... but all in proportion... and the truck flaps on the end stop the badgers climbing in overnight! Keep safe Sir, god bless and stay in touch, D&Px
@@Moonfleet41 ha ha ha talking of badgers I just got myself a rather nice prosumer camcorder and amazingly it has a night vision function.
So no sly moves from foxes ether 😂
Hi Del. Do you need to adjust the torque settings for bolts when you add anti-seize compound or loctite to, or is it fine to use the standard torque values?
On 30 year old fasteners, i never use the full tourque value anyway, metal fatigues, threads get stretched and damaged over years of doing up and undoing... so learn the factory manual value, then adjust down acordingly, experience will guide you to knowing what works, stays done up and doesn't strip threads..!
bro your content is GOLD (as in i subscribe to goldwingdocs and I have never seen this trick before) every video i watch on your channel i learn more than i asked to in the first place
Thank you kindly Sir, Goldwingdocs is a fantastic website, I've used it myself for tips and tricks when I need them! If you're on there, feel free to embed this video in a post, it'd be an honour to share it with their community...
Microwave oven 🤔 Honda think of everything 😜
Pretty much! Although the washer/dryer is an aftermarket model....
I laughed hard when you took the microwave out of the topbox.
As I said …. SERIOUSLY?? where’s the generator?? Lol
So did i mate, i forgot i'd left it in there..!
Do you just loosen all 4 bolts, or do you remove the 2 bolts in the panniers and loosen the top 2 bolts under the seat?
You can just loosen the pannier bolts as they're on a 'fork' mount, rather than a hole, but it can help with re-installing the fork if you take them out.
now thats a neat wee trick del never saw that before m8 nice job yet again you know how i like these vids atb m8 iain
Thnaks Iain. Glad you enjoyed it buddy.
Top job Del and not to tricky the way it was explained. The shed wing should appear in the next bond movie. All the bells and whistles. I'm sure it probably doubles up as a hovercraft. Have a good week both....Teamwork! 🥳👋🏻🇸🇪🇬🇧

Nice job as always
Nick Australia
Thanks Nick, just a bit of fun mate, getting ready for the 'wasteland'! The Lord Humungus would be proud...
What is it about your winter that fouls the brake like that. The service of my 2002 and 2018 GL1800 is all done on center stand with me lying on floor; or unbolting caliper and working on bench.
Road Salt !
Fascinating! I totally geek out over little tricks like that bodywork swiveling thing. I always thought my '82 CX500Turbo had a similarly neat feature, where the whole front section below the windscreen pivoted forward like a mini Jaguar E-Type bonnet, and was held in place with two braided steel cables. The microwave killed me hahahaha
Ha ha, i had a CX 650 turbo many years ago, what a great bike and so well put together.. can't deny Honda quality aye.. Glad you enjoyed te video buddy.
Entertainments you say ? I nearly pee'd I pants when I saw you remove the microwave, PMSL. Nuther good'n from "The Man". Keep up the fantastic and defo entertaining work my friend :)
Thanks so much Tony, glad you enjoyed it.. just a bit of fun and light relief.
Thats a genius hack.
So glad I got the Burgman instead of the Goldwing. Good Grief!
Seems easy but getting the subframe to align for the bolts to fit back in is a very hard job.
I replaced the hex head bolts with allen bolts. Made it a lot easier.
Love of work just to clean brakes
Tell me about it
The first thing that crossed my mind was training to do this kind of work without a proper stand...
👍
One more question. I bought a 95 with no seat, so I just ordered one. I will need the seat bolts. Does the end of the bolt need to be tapered? Or could I just get a standard stainless steel button head bolt?
Not sure if it's the same, but the seat bolts on mine are a long allen bolt, about 4" and they fit through the pillion handles!
Hey bro do you have the SE model?....I have a 1991 GL1500A and I'm wondering will the rear end lift up like yours did?.
I had to take the saddlebags off etc. just to get the wheel toff to get the tire changed, it was a lot of work.
Great job I might add......you sure know a lot about maintenance and repairs for the Goldwing.
Thanks again girl and stay safe. 😁👍
Yes mate, it should be the same.. take the seat off, and below where the pillion sits you'll see the two subframe bolts....loosen those so it can swivel forward.... then inside the boxes towards the front you should see two rubber grommets, pop them out and there should be the bolts under there to loosen... the subframe slots over those bolts like a "Y" rather then the bolts going through a hole... so just loosen them and lift the whole tail up.. You obviously need to drop the pipes off, but it should be the same procedure mate..!
That would make a good backbone for a bobber. Hmm
I thought exactly the same thing myself....too much to do with everything else at the moment, but stored in the head for later for sure !
Howdy, I am 68 years old. I have been riding bikes since I was 10 years old. Purchased my first Harley in 1975. Have always done my own maintenance. Just purchased my first Goldwing, a 1996. The throttle is kind of slow and sticky to return to idle. Normally I would lube the cables but this thing has cruise control!!??. Can you do a video on lubing the throttle cables on a Goldwing?
Thankx for the trick !!! why did you remove the right side exhaust ?
You have to remove both silencers as they hang on the underside of the boxes, you can't lift the boxes up and forward with them attached!
Dell... How the hell do you get the crash bar lined up with the hole in the frame once you put it all back together again? I have been fighting with it for a whole day... litterally 8 hours. (you know... the bolt you have to put into the hole inside the saddlebag on either side... and under the airhose on the right side... HOW the hell do you get it?
Hi buddy... those rear subframe lugs aren't a "hole", they're a "slot".. Watch at 3:44 you don't see me remove the bolts... just back them out maybe two full turns and the frame lifts back and up.. then the slots drop back down round the bolt shanks and you re-tighten them... if you've taken them all the way out, they try putting them in the frame a few threads first to get them started, then the rear subframe should slot back over the shanks.. it is tricky to line them up still.. but they provide slots on the subframe rather then holes to make it easier..!!!! hope that's clear..watch the link to the video again at 3:44..!
@@Moonfleet41 Dang it... I should have removed them.. I may have to completely disassemble for this time... uhhhhhgg. Thanks brother for the info, as always you are the best!
@@Moonfleet41 Hey Dell!!! I did it! I got it back together without complete disassemble. You are right, they are hard to line up. Man oh man, but I figured it out, I had to have my buddy wiggle thing while I worked the bolt through the three pathways... Thank you again my friend!!
.@@ACoustaDC ha ha, well done buddy, sounds like you had a mini adventure.. Always welcome, happy to help if i can..!
Well, I'm unlucky, when I lift the whole block of suitcases like you show, the fender also lifts, and I don't have access to the flasher relays.
