we disassembled the entire rear part of such a motorcycle, cooked a stretcher, they have a disease, the stretcher bursts from loads, so I had to sweat to expose everything for welding ...)))) hello to you dear man! forgive my English, I'm from Russia.
I wouldn’t limit this video to just Goldwings. Both Honda’s I’ve owned have been identical to this with the only difference being the furniture in getting to the headstock. Lovely video, going to help a lot of people!
Old Goldwings never die, they just fade away. Love my venerable old GL1100, especially the shaft drive.

Here I went spending money on a blind bearing/race puller for a job I may never do again, and then you just whip up a tool for the same job with ease. You win!
My girlfriend brought an old ninja 250r. The headstock bearings were fucked. Without your videos, I would never have attempted it. Thank, mate.

Yikes, I thought my CX500Turbo had a lot of stuff going on up there, but nope, nothing compared to this, lol. Brilliant change up to watch in your varied episode theme, as always. Did my heart good to actually see the bearings being greased the proper way, as I was taught over 40 years ago, awesome. Thank you!

Very thorough video Del. It reminded me of watching my wife take all day to prepare Thanksgiving dinner and then watching the kids make it disappear in 10 minutes. Good to see the use of a torque wrench too. I rode the autobahn a few years back, and at 265 KPH you start thinking about things like that. Stay well.

All-day really? it takes the human body 12 hours to turn a good rib-eye steak to crap my partner can do it in 20 minutes, I have labels on the microwave (crematorium) and oven (the alter).
No matter how hard she tries it turns out like leather. No joking I cook my own, and she leaves the kitchen like the aftermath of a war zone.
She was christened Zita by her dad, the patron saint of maids and servants, though to be fair I prefer she is called Zita and not Laurence (save you looking it up he is the patron saint of cooks and chefs).
Never have thought to own a Goldwing but now I am positive never will, great video my friend.

Even if I did get all the parts, screws,etc. The wheel would be 30 degrees of the handle bar! That’s so funny. I’ve made so many tools from old parts, wrenches! “Del” = genius at work.
And this is why I've finally gone back to naked bikes after years of plastic fights just to change a bulb ..

Just seen this I just don’t have that aptitude to do what you do, hence why I probably wont have a gold wing as my final bike. My biggest fear is buying the tools i don’t have and then getting stuck with the bike all in bits. I have followed you for a few years now you always make me smile and its all about your subscribers saving money and being safe. I would like a gold wing though. Stay safe.
Just because you can't fix and maintain a Gold Wing doesn't mean you can't own one Peter, there are plenty of good independent garages that could take care of it for you, after all, you don't have to be a builder to own a house right.?

Thanks Del, I'm grateful for the different way you removed the bottom race, with a drift in a vice, looks easier than recent videos, I have bearings sitting but have been putting them off because they looked hard but that looks much easier. The bikes been wandering for a while and difficult to be precise at low speeds. Anyway thanks for another new tip.
Most welcome Sir, just an alternative method, kind of adapted it from the way you would insert them with a press,... if I had a hydraulic press, then that would be he method... we never have enough equipment do we, but there's always a way! And sure thing, if a bike starts to wander about, it's usually a sign the bearings are getting tired! Good luck with it!

This easily could have been a 2 hour or longer video but you hit all the high points. I have a GL1500 that needs this done and actually, it's not as bad as I thought it might be so thanks much for that. Also, since the forks have to come off, I might as well do the seals while I'm at it. Thanks Delboy!
Sure thing mate, if you're not done this yourself, then the very best of luck with it, just take a little care with the indicator cancelling mechanism, it's a bit tricky if it all falls apart, and make sure the piece of harness inside the neck tube is healthy, and that the years of twisting action haven't fractured anything... good luck with it, hope it goes well for you!

GL1500 wow that surprised me, a pleasant surprise tho. As you well know Honda engineers came up with an air filter and said lets build a bike around it and the GW was born. Ever since I sold the busa Ive been looking for a GL1500 that wont require heaps of work for cheaper club registration. But lately I have been sold on the 2018+ DCT GW. What an awesome machine but at that price its pretty prohibitive. Great vid as always, hopefully will increase your subscriptions to GW members and you make it look so do'able. Kudos to you and Penny for all the time you put in to make such a great vid, Im sure it will be appreciated by many. Cheers.
Why thank you so much Brother Volvi, that's very kind of you... it's hard to believe this bike is actually 28yrs old, and still such a rock solid barn of a work horse! The solidness of engineering in it is amazing, nothing flexes or moves, even the plastics are beefier and more solid than the average sportsbike... I pity the fool that pulls out on one of these in the high street, I reckon it'd be a very bad day for them! If you're looking for a Wing, the very first generation 1800's are getting affordable now, and more importantly, they're as easy to work on as these 1500s, it's when you get to the modern current bikes, is when you start needing computers and science degrees to diagnose faults... and thanks for noticing the work on the filming, PP puts a lot of time in behind the scenes that usually doesn't get noticed, so she appreciated your comment, have a good week, stay safe and well, D&Px

Goldwings. Wow a lot of stuff you have to take off in order to get the job done. Never liked all the plastic stuff covering up important areas of the bike. Makes it harder to get to. Other than that great video. Now I know what to do on those bikes. Thank you Del.

Goldwings are such a great bike tho. I totally understand your sentiment tho because that's what I used to think until I came into a GL 1500 for free (close relative that can't ride anymore) and it's the ONLY bike I ride anymore and I have a Honda Shadow and an old Kawasaki LTD I've owned for almost 30 years. They call these a lazy boy with wheels for a reason, ha!
@@rickdff62 I agree 100% the GL 1500 Honda Goldwing is the best bike ever made these people watch these videos they think oh my God what a nightmare!!! But what they don't realize is most of the stuff you don't have to fool with until it gets to 70 or 80 or a hundred thousand miles. For the most part you change the oil put new tires on them when they wear out and ride the hell out of them!!! Probably the most reliable bike ever made!!!

If I ever have a blind bearing race like that lower one, I get the mig welder out and run a weld all the way round it and when it cools down it shrinks and drops out on its own ✌️
You are right that is what I do, im a maintenance machinist and we do this all the time, actually if you just heat the race it might just fall out, so if you don't have a welder this might work also

Brilliant Video, I have a GL1500 as well, and do all the work on it myself, so this is one job I still have to do, have already done the timing belts, another straight fwd job, but as you say, anything to do with a gold wing is 4 hours taking the plastic off and an hour to do the job lol, looking forward to other videos you do on the wing 😃😃

Delboy's Garage yes mate done more miles on the Enfield than the Harley already this year , needs a few home comforts as they seat is like a scaffolding plank and just as hard, but there’s loads of add one s , take care

Delboy's Garage think some 6to 8 mm preloads inserts may be the first on the front forks , but in all fairness it’s priced good for what you get thanks again mate

great Del, another bike I'm not going to have, just because of all the plastic bits. Good point about the manuals, I also find the proper tools for the job help immensely, got the internal bearing pullers for my sportster wheel bearings, saved me loads of time, although I did have to modify one of the collets. I don't find Harleys therapeutic to work on. Keep up the good work mate.
Thanks Andy, Harleys are definitely a different kettle of fish when it comes to service and maintenance, and sometimes you do need a sense of humour at some of the daft engineering they seem to employ, but in some way, that's some of their charm cos there's nothing else like it on the market (probably for a reason lol), thanks for your kind words and really appreciate your support.

That job is made 10 x Harder with all that clobber to remove. What a pain in the backside Mate! I didn't think all those bolts would come out without a fight either did you?
Just imagine how much that would cost to all be done at a Main Dealer. The owner would need counselling for the shock. Even if they charged £50 an hr & was on it a day that is over £400 labour charge & they wouldn't do it any better than you!

Hi Ian, yes any internal task on a bike like this is a heavy labour cost, but its not complex, just long winded and time consuming. just patience and a methodical approach is all it takes.

Nah, once you get stuck in mate, you'd soon get it knocked out, half the issue is filming, makes it longer, if you started early morning, anyone could knock this out in a day!
