    It's funny how many terrifyingly unique sounds and feels you get to deal with on motorcycles, if you ride them long enough over many years under all conditions, lol. Much shared empathy for mucky, salty, wet winter weather riding, my friend!

    Buy a few gallons of salt away. Every time you come in from a ride. Hook the attachment to your hose and rinse it down. You don't have to hit the whole bike. But get your brakes and your tires each time. That will help them stay in balance. And it will not build up the salt and sand and corrosion. On your rims or tires and it will keep your brake system clean and working properly. I've been using it for years and I've never went through what you're going through. It's just a suggestion but you could save you a lot of extra work and worry

    I think we Aussies are getting soft. I live in Brisbane in sunny Queensland (most of the time) and I'm not sure I have it in me to do the kind of regular maintenance you need because of your environment. If it's raining here, I tend to leave the bike in the garage because the next day is generally fine and my bike won't get too dirty. So I take my hat off to you. Another great video by the way.

    9:00 I used to have some hex head (allen) bolts that were exposed to constant spray water which made them a nightmare to service. Someone had the idea to mix anti seize and RTV to fill the sockets, the plug came out easy and the hex socket was like the day it was made (FYI) . Enjoyed the video, cheers!

    Job well done Del. The shed wing sure is quirky and much safer after the brake service. The back brakes sound quite a mission.
    In Sweden they spread very fine gravel on roads and footpaths which is obviously very effective for grip in snow and ice. They probably recycle as much as possible in the spring cleanup. It reduces the amount of salt needed by a huge amount. Well in the southern regions at least. it definitely helps against corrosion. Have a great weekend both. 🥳👋🏻🇸🇪🇬🇧

      Wow, what a great idea, I so wish they did that in England, the salt levels on the road by late winter are outrageous, but it's usually washed away by rain then we have 6-7 months of clea roads (well by comparison anyway!)... have a good weekend, keep safe, D&Px

    aaaahhhhh...... Shadows and memories of a "DAMAGE" past! Stoked to see the rope and skulls. I also like the way you mounted your Guardian Bell on the front fender. • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  2 года назад +1

      Wow that's some memory! And yes, I still remember the old Damage Bandit... I know where it is, it's still with the guy I sold it to, but sadly he managed to destroy the engine with some clumsy wrenching, so it's off the road now... scrim is on the list brother, I don't get much free time these days, but when I do, I do a few more little bits of daft adornment!! And the hammer's a long story... it's been with me right from Damage, or even earlier I think, I had a Yamaha 1000 before that that we called 'Panic' and it was clipped to the frame, the hammer's called 'Floyd' and I guess being a musician you could work that out straight away! I've even painted 'Floyd' on the top of it and people older than me still ask why... no musical history some people!!

    Hi Del, since I moved over here to NZ I haven't had as much trouble with my brakes because they don't use rock salt hrre in the winter which used to cause really bad corrosion to my brakes in the UK.
    Anyway, a long time ago I was told to use a paste like metal polish to clean the pistons while they were extended making sure they were really clean and free from any marks, then just before fully retracting then apply a thin bead of rubber grease between the top edge of the piston and the 'o' ring in the caliper. This helps lubricate them and prolongs the life of the 'o' ring seals?
    Take care and ride safe mate best wishes to you both from NZ.😉

    Hey Del ... in the midst of winter here in Western Canada, but spring is just around the corner. Another very informative and entertaining video. One observation that i noticed. On the right side calliper you placed what looked like "copper caps" on the piston ends before installing the pads. On the left side it appears there were no "copper caps'" applied to the pistons. Did I imagine that or was there a reason??

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  2 года назад

      Hi Arthur, thank you so much for your engagement and keen observation, you're absolutely right, the two calipers are different... the easiest way to explain is that the left caliper is a slightly less powerful unit, more like the rear caliper, and it's actuate by the rear foot brake... the right caliper is operated by the hand brake and being more powerful it's fitted with those phenolic spacers to prevent brake squeal... they're simply not fitted in the left hand side! Thank you again for your kind support.

    Do you think it would be better to leave the covers off over winter? That way you could just rinse the calipers down. Idk how much difference it would make with UK winters. Geez a guy would wonder if those crazy front end brake cover things are a hinderance or helper (as you mentioned) if they weren't there (or it was a different style bike) a guy could take a couple mins (before dinner as you mentioned) to blast them off with hot water after each ride ; I would prefer to do that each night than take er all apart every 4 weeks (but thats just me)

    It's unreal how filthy callipers get in the winter, but after using the old toothbrush & soapy water technique from your previous videos my callipers are gleaming and shiny again.
