I was operating Corkscrew that day you visited and I'm so glad I got to meet you, it made my 2019 lol! Thanks for visiting Taylor and I'm glad you had an overall good experience despite the crowds!!
Thanks for reviewing my home park! If they shuttled you in, that means it was RIDICULOUSLY more busy than usual. I used to work there, and they only have to shuttle people in 5-7 times a summer at most. Cannonball is my personal favorite but mine of lost souls, psychodrome and turkish twist are the biggest hidden gems in my opinion.
You hit the nail on the head about Canobie. The park is all about the charm. It's a beautiful and well-kept park. Yankee Cannonball used to be a lot better. The ride was retracked by GCI in 2015/2016. While the ride is smoother than ever, the retracking removed a lot of the ride's airtime. It was unfortunate. Canobie gets busy even on weekdays. It's not uncommon to find a 30-45 minute wait for the Yankee Cannonball even on weekdays. The ride used to be able to run two trains, but it is no longer allowed to after a collision in 2001. The ride used to have manual skid brakes and due to operator error, the brakes weren't deployed in time and the two trains bumped. The park has upgraded the ride's braking system to be automatic, but it's not sufficient to allow two train operations. I hear that would be the same cost as a new ride. While I would love that since it would double their star attraction's capacity, the park would rather invest in a new ride.
I hate but love retracks at the same time because it makes them smoother but it takes away from so much Airtime. Like Racer 75 back when it was Rebel Yell.
@@maxhagenauer24 The frustrating thing about this one is that it may have been deliberate. Yankee Cannonball was downgraded from a black diamond (max thrill) to blue square (moderate) after the retracking.
I work here, and It’s one of my favorite places on earth because of how well kept it is. The rides are definitely mediocre at best, but having the look and feel of this place is so unique and an experience of its own. Thanks for reviewing this place.
@@TylerPCoyne Jumping in here... I worked at Canobie 15 years ago(!!!), and I think the only new ride since then is Untamed, so out of all the others, my favorite is the Turkish Twist - both to ride and to operate.
Wow taylor talking about my home park? how weird lol, i live 15 minutes away and you nailed it, it’s not about the rides it’s about the atmosphere, my favorite time to go is during their halloween event, me and my friends will go and hang out there every year and it’s so fun, unfortunately they’re not doing it this year :(
Hey, my home park! That was a nice watch. It's definitely a park geared towards families but it's a blast. I'm not sure if they still do a late day pass, but when I was growing up they'd allow you to buy a pass for after 4 or 5 at a lower cost. Usually you could still hit all the major attractions on that.
I ski, so I spend a fair bit of the winter on chairlifts. If you are on a long flat span, particularly on a longer lift, when the emergency brake goes, you can get some serious negative Gs as the line tension adjusts. On Gadzoom at Snowbird we probably bounced 2m out if the blue once when it happened.
I grew up just outside Boston so I’ve spent a lot of days at Canobie, really more pleasant experiences than not. I hated going on busy days, so we would try going weekdays early if possible and staying until we were tired.
this is one of my home parks, and yeah, ive never seen it this crowded. also the halloween there is the best halloween event ive ever been to. its a charming little park
The highlight of every summer growing up was to go to this park. I remember all the kids being terrified of Yankee Cannonball like it was the tallest, scariest coaster in the world. Going on it was like a rite of passage. I remember my dad talking me into it and the whole time I screamed and was terrified. When we got off he was like “sorry I made you go - you don’t have to go again.” I was like “what are you talking about” and jumped right back in line. The birth of a coaster addict. 😎
4:29 Wow Xtreme Frisbee was open when you went... It’s been closed for the past five years and I heard they opened it for the 2019 season but when I went last year it was down. Consider yourself lucky lol
I literally just went for the first time last weekend. I’m a thrill junkie, but it was honestly still just a nice park. I actually really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was pretty beautiful.
Canobie was my home park growing up, so it’s always going to have a special place in my heart. I do think the Yankee Cannonball is an underrated classic woodie with great air time in the back, but I’ll admit to being a little biased since it was my first non-kiddie credit. My first *ever* credit was that kiddie dragon coaster, too. Always gonna love Canobie!
In the 70's Boston area kids who liked coasters worked their way up: 1st was the Cannonball at Canobie Lake. 2nd was the coaster at Lincoln Park. 3rd was the big one, the Giant Coaster at Paragon Park.
I’m getting massive nostalgia. This used to be my home park. Totally forgot about this park. Sadly don’t remember the experience cuz I was pretty young at the time.
glad that the park i work at you enjoyed. The yankee cannonball can’t do two trains because of an accident in 2001. the offsite parking happens to employees too.
I love living like 30 minuts away from this place because when I go there I can get there early with my friends and no one will be there. the ride operators at bosten tea party let us re ride it about 7 times before people started coming. it was great.
My grandparents live 20 minutes from there. I went twice a year growing up. I think you nailed it. I no longer live anywhere near there but I plan on bringing my girlfriend there at least once. Tons of charm and so much sentimental value for me. Appreciate the content
Grew up around here definitely a place to go if you have little kids, being able to carry that stuff is extremely convenient. They're very helpful, once had a staff member hold something for me at the operating table because they'd seen them fall off a couple different passengers I really appreciated that and they literally handed it to me as I got off the ride!
Thanks for the review. I have been going there since I was 5. It is always well kept, clean, and a great experience. Not the place for extreme thrills. They do have a very rare operating Rotor ride! It's called the Turkish Twist.
For starters I love this park. I had been going here since I was a kid and yeah its not the most thrilling but if you go with people its a lot more fun. I have had the opportunity to work here and its an awesome place to work. Meet some really cool people and get paid to work with your friends is a huge perk. While it might not be the first place to visit on a thrill list, it definitely has a friendly and inviting atmosphere.
I've actually been to Canobie Lake Park since 6th grade. I went with the middle school chorus after a school choir competition. My favorite rides are Yankee Cannonball, Boston Tea Party, Xtreme Frisbee, Da Vinci's Dream, and Starblaster. The last time I went was Screemfest of 2017. I love the park so much, every year I always want to go there!
Seeing how this in my home state and closer to me than my home park I tend to go her quite a bit, mostly during their Halloween event which I don't think is happening this year due to covid-19
I also visited in late August 2019 and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately bf got sick and we had to leave so early but I wld definitely go again with other friends. It really has a lot of charm.
I grew up in Dracut Massachusetts, about 20 minutes South of Salem on the NH state line. The character of the park is always what brings me back, and for us locals there is the nostalgia factor. Overall it ranks pretty high even without the nostalgia. The rides they've added throughout the years are awesome, but the thing I like best about Canobie is that it doesn't pretend to be something it's not. It's an old school New England amusement park which has managed to survive throughout the years, and its proud of that heritage.
Grew up going here. While they may not have rides people cross the country to go on, the park has evolved, and expanded over the years. They haven't been afraid to cut out some of the dead wood, or expand sections. And yes, it's very well kept despite its age. Interesting fact: Canobie Lake Park actually started off as a trolley park. Certain sections of the park still have some of the old trolley tracks remaining.
Woo, home park! In case no one's said it yet, there's another reason why this park is as remarkable as it is: much like Alton Towers, city ordinance demands rides never break the treeline, but unlike Alton, the rides also can't go underground because of the lake! Whatever thrills this park's future holds will take place within ~70 feet, full-stop. Which begs the question among Northeastern enthusiasts as to what the next great coaster could even be... multi-launch, anyone?
I’m like 45 minutes away in mass I go there almost every year it is really plain after a while but it’s always fun for some reason you’ll always meet new people and have fun great place
Haven't been to Canobie in a long time but I've always had a great time. Whalom Park in Lunenburg, MA was my home park but Canobie has always been a ton of fun.
Canobie is down the road and I ride my motorcycle past it all the time because it's just a nice ride. It is easily accessible from I-93 but the entrance itself and the park is just in a residential neighborhood. It almost pops up out of nowhere. The lake itself has no public launch except for kayaks, it is the drinking water reservoir for Salem, so you cannot swim (or even touch) the water. But the park does operate that tourist boat which is nice. Going there in fall adds the changing color of leaves and is my favorite time to visit. Being a local I have been to the park dozens of times over my lifetime. Brought many a date there when I was in high school. There is often live bands and entertainment as well. Of course going during the Covid crisis impacts what the park can offer. They also do a great Halloween attraction each year. It is one of the oldest parks in America and there are still bits of it preserved for posterity. If you go on the Ferris wheel there are pictures and historical notes going back over the last century. It very much feels like an old timey park. Lines can be a bit long but it's the only amusement park anywhere near there, so it gets crowded during peak times. Thanks for the review, I loved seeing a local attraction on RUclips.
This was the park of my childhood. I live closer to six flags new england now, which has bigger and better rides. The great thing about canobie is its a day trip for everyone north of Boston. It's even great for an evening. I've been meaning to get back there as I haven't been since they got untamed.
Old-school woodie fans are attracted to Canobie just for the Yankee Cannonball, which is a 1930s PTC classic in pretty good shape. I'm not sure I've ridden it since the retracking mentioned elsewhere. Untamed is a standard small Gerstlauer, but that's a good thing to be, and the theming is great. I love that first loop.
I lived in Salem around 10 years ago, in north salem by arlington pond, but don't live in the new england area anymore. I'm positive I had gone to Canobie several times many years ago before around 2010. I was fairly young at the time though.
@WhoButWBMarci Yeah, I think it was the first indoor coaster with inversions, since it has the same corkscrew design as many other Arrows manufactured in the '70s. Although even if it was still an indoor coaster, Canyon Blaster would have stolen it's thunder by now.
I’m so glad you didn’t pronounce it Ca-No-Bie Also they added a double decker carousel and they have always teased new things. They do have space for another roller coaster if they wanted but who knows (they tease it a lot but permits restrict them from being tall, untamed I believe reached the height limit) The one thing the park does though is adds something new every one to two years, the double decker carousel, water park slides, the different train route and ice jet are all less than 5 years old at the park and untamed I don’t think is 10 years old yet either. Corkscrew was repainted a couple years ago too If you go back up to New Hampshire, mention it because a lot of people would go up there to do a meet and greet. Also a useful tip, they are extremely good with rain policies and if it rains they’ll give u a ticket for another day (assuming most rides are closed and they have to close the park) One more thing, 2021 go to screemfest up there, it is extremely popular there and is definitely worth the trip. But if you want to go when it’s not packed, fridays in May or June, my fam and friends always go on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, it’s open 9am to 10pm. 9-3 it’s packed because of schools but after that it’s nothing. After 9 we were getting walk on’s with yankee cannonball so useful tip Hope you come back up to New England soon
Actually Canobie has Arrow Corkscrew #2!! The second modern day coaster to invert riders. The first one was at Knott’s Berry Farm but now up at Silverwood in Idaho.
I was looking at them on TikTok and I was freaking out about how pretty and how clean the park is compared to La Ronde which is where I worked last season.
I go once a year (every summer) and personally its my favorite.. because the only other amusement park is six flags.. i dont like six flags, but canobie is a place i love also for yhe landscape and just the way it looks, but that is probably bc canobie actually used to be a small botanical garden/ park with like 2 kiddie rides, also the staff are so kind and never really try to hurry you. Canobie is a really cool place to go especially if your a visual person!
this is my home park, and i just gotta give one protip if you plan on going; avoid the Canobie Corkscrew like the plague, and go on the log ride - it has no restraints and AMAZING airtime on that last drop into the water
Canobie is on my list of parks to visit, based on my armchair amusement park tourism. They have a few really old-school rides that are the last of their kind.
Hey, home park, neat. Stephen King wrote a book inspired by Canobie - Joyland. It's not really set in canobie, it's set in a coastal park, but Canobie was the inspiration. When I read it, it basically took place at Canobie.
This theme park also has a historic ride. "Mine of Lost Souls". It's one of the few dark rides outside of Disney and the only dark ride in the New England area. Mine of Lost Souls and Psycodrome are my two favorite rides in the entire park.
@@CoasterStudios If you went during their Halloween event, then they unfortunately shut it down and use the area for one of their haunted attractions. This year it is one of the rides closed due to COVID. It's located near the log flume.

To add onto that fun fact about the Untamed supports: they're painted to look like white birch trees, which is the State Tree of New Hampshire.

yes and it was also bigger in texas
@WhoButWBMarci Yeah, I think it was the first indoor coaster with inversions, since it has the same corkscrew design as many other Arrows manufactured in the '70s. Although even if it was still an indoor coaster, Canyon Blaster would have stolen it's thunder by now.
Very nice review!
I’m so glad you didn’t pronounce it Ca-No-Bie
Also they added a double decker carousel and they have always teased new things. They do have space for another roller coaster if they wanted but who knows (they tease it a lot but permits restrict them from being tall, untamed I believe reached the height limit)
The one thing the park does though is adds something new every one to two years, the double decker carousel, water park slides, the different train route and ice jet are all less than 5 years old at the park and untamed I don’t think is 10 years old yet either. Corkscrew was repainted a couple years ago too
If you go back up to New Hampshire, mention it because a lot of people would go up there to do a meet and greet.
Also a useful tip, they are extremely good with rain policies and if it rains they’ll give u a ticket for another day (assuming most rides are closed and they have to close the park)
One more thing, 2021 go to screemfest up there, it is extremely popular there and is definitely worth the trip. But if you want to go when it’s not packed, fridays in May or June, my fam and friends always go on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, it’s open 9am to 10pm. 9-3 it’s packed because of schools but after that it’s nothing. After 9 we were getting walk on’s with yankee cannonball so useful tip
Hope you come back up to New England soon
Finally my home park
The Arrow corkscrew there used to be at the Old Chicago mall/indoor amusement park in Bolingbrook, IL
Actually Canobie has Arrow Corkscrew #2!! The second modern day coaster to invert riders. The first one was at Knott’s Berry Farm but now up at Silverwood in Idaho.
marjorie kalloch yes the second one was originally called the Chicago Loop at Old Chicago.
Now I know where Atari got there food stand inspirations from for RCT3!
Taylor You Have TO GO TO SCREEEMFEST NEXT YEAR AT CANOBIE I GO EVERY YEAR ITS AMAZING AND SO SCARY
And fun lol
Ahhh I’m going this June with my bestie to this park,
I go here a lot with it being one of my 2 home parks and I can agree with a lot of this.
this is my home park, and i just gotta give one protip if you plan on going; avoid the Canobie Corkscrew like the plague, and go on the log ride - it has no restraints and AMAZING airtime on that last drop into the water
been there many times I love it
The untamed is crazy but I love it I’ve been at this exact park
Canobie is on my list of parks to visit, based on my armchair amusement park tourism. They have a few really old-school rides that are the last of their kind.
Hey, home park, neat.
Stephen King wrote a book inspired by Canobie - Joyland.
It's not really set in canobie, it's set in a coastal park, but Canobie was the inspiration. When I read it, it basically took place at Canobie.
Oh, man, you're telling everyone about the single-rider line on Untamed! That's my secret!
This is my home park!
This theme park also has a historic ride. "Mine of Lost Souls". It's one of the few dark rides outside of Disney and the only dark ride in the New England area. Mine of Lost Souls and Psycodrome are my two favorite rides in the entire park.
I honestly had no idea that ride existed and would've ridden it had I known about it- where in the park was it? I definitely must've missed it somehow
@@CoasterStudios If you went during their Halloween event, then they unfortunately shut it down and use the area for one of their haunted attractions. This year it is one of the rides closed due to COVID. It's located near the log flume.
Definitely speaks Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 and 2
Going there in the days can’t remember the last time I went there befor COVID
Who else gets RCT1/2/3 vibes from the food stalls?
I get RCT3 vibes. IDK if that counts
