I'm here now
Also, you should go to fun land that is as well in New Hampshire in Nashua,Its basically like Fantasty Land here in Massachusetts in Seekonk
I miss the old machines in the arcade the most
#rubixube64light
That was actually a mini cart ride similar to the canobie 500. It was a kiddie rail kart ride
Fun fact about the caterpillar ride at Canobie:
The caterpillar ride used to be a very common ride in the US after it’s debut in the 1920s. However, there are only two remaining caterpillar rides in the US, including the one at Canobie.
Thanks for the info!
My mum's friend said teens used to make out on the Caterpillar ride.
You should REALLY do a history video in Storyland, Glen NH- That would be so cool! They have a book you can buy that has LOADS of the parks history!
I was thinking about it for a while but can’t quite figure out how I would do it. I don’t think there’s enough stuff to show for that one. It be mostly a slide show type of video. I do really want that book though, I sought in the gift shop and almost bought it
@Ben Laurence I have the book. Its actually loaded with a good amount of pretty intresting history! PS: SORRY FOR CORRECTING YOU ON SOMETHING OTHER THANK THE TRAIN!! 😬😂 here’s an online version of the book: books.google.com/books?id=MUrZh-CtW8IC&pg=PA102&lpg=PA102&dq=Sharyn+Ekberg&source=bl&ots=dwjBakTf6s&sig=ACfU3U3lOjZEcQ8jBDLAFpGHs4PHNuN_WQ&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiOpvWsj9HjAhVPtlkKHW2cAnkQ6AEwBXoECAkQAQ#v=onepage&q=Sharyn%20Ekberg&f=false
I worked summers at Canobie Lake Park 1963-1966. I remember when they bought & installed the Rubiks Cube light/speaker system.
The Wurlitzer Band Organ, Model 153 on the Merry-go-Round is the original organ on that ride I believe. A special band organ maintenance man would come from out of state yearly to check & replace payers as needed.
During my time working at Canobie I had the opportunity to go back stage at the Ballroom where I’d see old posters on the was of musical groups (1940s +) that had entertained there.
I had seen Herman’s Hermits & The Searchers play at the Ballroom. Other groups I remember that played there were The Loving Spoonful, The Who, & Gene Pitney, Sonny & Cher (I saw them walking through the park by the wooden structure roller coaster). These were all Friday night events with WBZ Radio personality Dave Maynard as program host.
I had also attended a high school prom at the Ballroom. The windows overlooking Canobie Lake offer a nice view of the Lake during evening events.
Wednesday nights was fireworks night.
Ok I'm sorry to spam, I just keep remembering things:
The corkscrew is actually an Arrow Dynamics corkscrew design, and there are only 10 left still in operation! We're lucky to have it!
Also, no one is allowed to actually SWIM at canobie lake. It's a reservoir! And the water you're drinking from the park is actually all directly from the lake!
Not spamming at all, I love comments like these 😃 I knew the water at CLP tasted funny haha
And now there’s 9 left because R.I.P. Canobie Corkscrew
You are correct at 7:24 and the train did loop around the way you mentioned.
Thanks! After poking around the station I figured it out. I haven’t been on the train in years!
I go there all the time! I just went again like last week and I saw that that fountain was under construction
Nice this place is awesome! I’m excited to see what they’re doing around the fountain area
Same!
Me too
The fountain was taken down and was replaced by a double decker carasel
The rocket ship was a simulator, and it was by untamed, they removed it for untamed and its back in their storage lot. It's In a restricted section, if anyone knows anyone who works there, ask then to take a few pictures back there
I got a convoy lake park ad on this video
Haha no way! Hopefully you didn’t skip so I can get my 3 cents in ad revenue 😂
@@BenLaurence oh. Sorry. I won't this time
oh my god a little piece of the 1964 world's fair at an amusement park i went to as a kid :0 that's amazing
Right!? Isn’t that cool
They have a new water park castaway island I love history loved the video ❤️
I love the videos
Thanks
10 place plus nice sunglasses Ben :D
10 place??? And thanks I wear them in every video 😂
Huge trip down memory lane, dude. I grew up going there. Whenever my dad would take me I felt like I was going to the best place on earth. I remember the swimming pool on the left when you'd first enter the park, I remember the Swamp ride heading towards Yankee Cannonball, think it was before the Calypso -is that still there? The Galaxy was my very first roller coaster, was really sad to see that one go. The Whip was somewhere up front. There was a roller skating rink down back by the theatre somewhere. It has changed so much...last time I was there the line cutting was absolutely obnoxious. But still remember the best times of my childhood there. Really wish someone had video footage of The Swamp, that was so cool. Cheers 🥃🥃
I grew up going to Canobie Lake Park. I’d love to go back again sometime. Would be great.
I need to go back soon! Great spot
Didnt know the spaceship was still on property, that's awesome! Couple things you could've included, the original stone entrance over by the Mexican restaurant over by the dance hall I believe( there is a plaque somewhere over there ) the carousel is one of the oldest park attractions.. built in 1903 and I believe brought to the park in 1906. Another quick tidbit about your (actually our fav ride )is policy pond was the original name of canobie before it was renamed , hence the name for the Policy Mining Co in the mine of lost souls and also the Policy Pond log flume.
Thanks for the info!! I was going to include the original entrance as a bonus fact but just decided not to. I mentioned something about the carousel in the previous Canobie Lake Park video. Huh I never put 2 and 2 together! Now seeing Policy everywhere makes sense lol
@@BenLaurence I actually learned something form yours with the light post and I saw that one later in the day actually, kind of came across one of yours from way back. Some of the history and facts I came across are mentioned here.
ruclips.net/video/S3MZKbRbq9I/видео.html
#RubikxCube64Light - I always wondered about those cool light posts at CLP - thanks for enlightening us to their history!
YES! Thanks for staying till the end. I always thought the one lone light was weird till I looked into it and found out the awesome history :)
my cousins grew up right near the park, back in the 80's. whenever we went up there in the summer, we'd walk through the woods behind the park, right up to the fence to watch the roller coaster. you could time when you'd see the coaster come down the hill based on the antique cars and when they went by. though i only ever actually went into the park once. great video. it's nice to see regional amusement parks keeping it up against the monsters like 6 flags, busch gardens, disney, universal, etc.
Thanks for the memories!! I rode the rocket ship when I was a kid!
That’s awesome! Seemed like a cool little experience
There used to be an old dark ride , The Swamp . They removed it in the mid 1980s.
That would have been awesome to see! I’ll have to look it up
Ben Laurence before that it was a walkthrough haunted house, the house of green gables
Where in the park was the Swamp located? It wasn't where the Mine was built in 1985? Or was it near Yankee Cannonball?
@@robkrasinski6217 The Swamp was a pretzel style dark ride. It was not near the mine. There was also a funhouse dark ride called , The house of seven gables. But that went out in the 70s. The swamp was located on the other side from the mine. In the older section of the park. The swamp closed due to age. The ride's floor was buckling among other problems.
Rob Krasinski the swamp was where the tin can carnival game is now, most of the space hasn’t got repurposed besides being just being storage, though
I remember going to Canobie Lake Park for my seventh birthday. I remember riding the old train around the park. I need to go back here since it’s been years because I wanna check out the new waterpark.
Hashtag 1964 World Fair light.
Nice!! Yeah I haven’t gotten to check out the water park yet but I definitely want to. Thanks for staying till the end 😃
Aww i want to go there To bad it's Abandoned.Btw Nice Vid Ben
It’s not abandoned, it’s a fully functioning amusement park lol
It's not abandoned dude. You totally missundsrstood
@@kaelanthefox6036 Ok?
@@BenLaurence Oh OOF
If you ride the Untamed when you're at the top of the hill, if you look straight across you can see a better view of the rocket
I was going to do that but you can’t see it that well and it goes too fast so I would get it on camera
@@BenLaurence yeah I know lol but it's still cool to see
JA'CRISPY ZUILL oh definitely 😃 I’m hoping to get close to it and film one day
It's nothing exciting ;). I see it all the time.
😱 you take that back hahaha! I’d love to get out there and film the rocket sometime
Does anybody else remember the old Matterhorn flying bobs ride? Man, that thing was fun!
I'm happy I found your channel, I'm from NH so it's cool learning about things in my area that I don't already know the history behind! Thanks for sharing!
Awesome! I have a whole playlist of New Hampshire videos if you’re interested ruclips.net/p/PLuPKcuFoogeFs2QnsFmt-meK_LtPUxTlI
The rocketship is actually right next to where we keep all the supplies for screeemfest! There's tons of cargo boxes full of walls and fog machines
AWESOME! I bet there’s lots of cool stuff back there. I’d love to go check it out
I'm here
Great video; used to work at Canobie Lake Park in the late 80s to early 90s. What a great place for a teenager to work!
Thanks Keith! I bet it was so fun to work here!
Going there next Friday can’t wait to tell everyone meh know
Edge about Conor lake park from you
Nice! Definitely share the info with your friends!
Me As Well
No way me too
See ya guys there
I'LL probably be wearing a black tee shirt a black shorts with a Boston cap
I miss this so much
Same!
Love the canon or vids!!!
Been going there since at least 1980. Definitely a favorite memory from my childhood.
I love this park I’ve Been their it’s so much fun
YES love Canobie!!
Thank you for remembering my childhood
Absolutely 😃
Rubix cube 64 light
Thanks for staying till the end!!!
Ben Laurence thanks for making this awesome video
Been there 100's of times and never noticed or knew the history of the '64 light. Excited to go back and see it (if its still there 4 years after this video was posted). I've also ridden that spaceship many times, was my fav ride as a kid.
Happy to share the info 😃 wish I could have gone in the spaceship, i remember seeing it often as a kid but it was just used for display at that point
I work at Canobie Lake Park on the Grounds crew. I went by that spot several times practically evrey morning this summer while helping to get the park ready to open each day, and somehow I never noticed this light pole was even there, nevermind that it had a unique top. I will have to go take a look tomorrow!
Awesome! You guys do a fantastic job keeping up with the park!! Canobie Lake Park always looks so clean and pristine. You will never look at a simple light pole the same way ever again haha
@@BenLaurence I made sure to to walk by that spot today, and I almost couldn't believe that I had never noticed that light pole before XD
First also hi Ben.
Neat, enjoy the video
Ben Laurence I did!
Oh and I forgot #rubicscube64light :D
Nobody cares. And no you wernt. I was.
Cool Video!as usually, also don't forget about the canobie arcade Video! I'LL BE WAITING!
Thanks. That video will release tomorrow at 6pm. I’m working on it right now
@@BenLaurence YES! Can't wait!
It’s gonna be good
@@BenLaurence Hell Yeah!
My great grandfather's brick and mortar company layed out all the foundations at canobie
That’s awesome!!
Alot of the trash cans at Canobie came from the 1964 world's fair as well.
I totally forgot to include that in the video! Most of them are near the light pole too!! Hey that might mean will have to do five more secrets in the future
@@BenLaurence check out Canobiefan.net !
There was a "mouse" coaster over by where the frisbee ride is now, do you remember what it was called? It's bugging me now. LOL
Oh yeah I remember it but I couldn’t tell ya the name lol
When I was a kid, I believe it was called Galaxi
@@kfmcardle That rings a bell! Thanks!
yes the Galaxi....Mighty Mouse type coaster
It was called the Rockin' Rider. It operated from 1970-2004!
Yeah you got the train station route correct. I worked on the train summer 2007 and 2008. I loved it
Very cool video! Will have to check these things out next time I visit the park.
I just looked on Google Maps and you can see the rocket ship in the woods if you look closely!
Yep it sure is
I'm so happy they still have the old nickelodeons in the old train station 7:48 I remember going on the Space Shuttle ride and frankly it was pretty lame. If memory serves, there was a little round screen at the tip that had a video emulation of space travel. It also tilted about 45 degrees up to make it feel like you were about to take off lol Pretty cheesy, as was the Vertigo Theater, which was next to the Paratroopers ride (kind of near the Psychodrome) Didn't know about the 1964 World's Fair light! Very cool!
I’m glad they kept them as well. Yeah I’ll take the old school cheesy rides over the pre built cookie cutter stuff. Pretty cool that they have that worlds fair light :)
I still hope they can revive Toys r Us I’ve only been there 2 Times
Cause when I grow up I wanted to take my future children or child to that place but it’s no more sadly
I feel bad for the next Generation
😢
Hi this video is not related to Toys “R” Us but I hope you enjoy
Ben Laurence I know I just wanted to express how I felt about Toys r us closing that’s all
Also the video was great
You make great content
Night
And why this video
OvP_ Skully idk
Toys R Us went bankrupt and all their holding were sold off at auction.
First park and first roller coasters i ever went on. Still go back each year 35 years later.
Fun fact number two The rock structure that you showed in the beginning of the video used to be a Native American Indian style boat ride for kids. I remember riding it once as a little little kid. You got in these little Mini kayaks and they went around the water through the Little Rock tunnel.
They got rid of that?
@@BenLaurence That was it it was that rock structure you showed That was where the kitty kayak boat ride was
You mean the fountain I’m talking about right at the start? That is in fact a fountain not the kiddie canoe ride that is found on the complete opposite side of the park
I love this video and the six flags new England history video and the abandoned Franklin park zoo video in Boston.
Thank you so much for the secret I’m going later tomorrow and I will definitely be looking at the fountain and I will be looking for that special :D
Make sure to watch the entire video to understand the fountain ;) there’s also 4 other secrets/facts featured in this video
I've been in that rocket ship ride. It was a carnival flat ride. I remember a carnival had one when I was a little kid and I got to ride it. There were a four rows of small seats in it. The walls were carpet. There was a small rear projection movie screen in the front. The rocket tipped up at less then a 45 degree angle and would rotate side to side. It would have been cool if it could barrel roll and send us upside down, but it didn't. It just rocked back and forth. I recall the movie they showed in the front being a complete goofball comedy. They were trying to launch us to the moon, but the rocket went out of control and ended up flying through all kinds of crazy places, like down streets, and through people's houses and stuff while terrified people dodged out of the way. I remember specifically someone opening the front door to their house and us flying right in, up the stars, through the rooms, and out a window, causing chaos the whole way. They definitely went for "goofy comedy" with that rocket ride. I think that there are still operators running that ride too, but instead of using the movie projector and rear projection screen, they just hung a flat screen TV in front of the screen and the video it plays is probably on a computer in it on a hard drive or somethin.
I don’t know it sounds corny but kind of cool 🤣 I wish I got to ride it.. I always saw the display way back in the day and wondered what it was
Oh my gosh the rocket ship! I remember that as a kid. Man I think the last time I've been to canobie was in 2010. I hear the corkscrew got removed
Wow great video!
Some other cool facts:
(I’m 37, so timeframe would have been around mid-1990s)
1) The Swimming Pool, pretty much right at the entrance, a swimming pool was located, although I never could “see” the pool because it was taller then me… I would see the splashing water/piss.
2) The ride “the galaxy” was there which is now the frisbee ride… had the classic yellow lights you’d see at a fairground food cart.
I just went there it was soo much fun the roller coasters
Nice!
I was a carpenter at Canobie Lake Park from June 98 until 17 July 03 there has been a bunch of changes since then. Interesting changes! Ron Stillens
Nice!! Any cool stories?
love the lamp post!
Great video, must be a blast from the past for people who would remember those things. We used to vacation to Storyland, Six Gun City, Clarks, and Santas Village in NH quite often when i was a kid but i've never been to this place. Thanks for sharing! #rubixcube64light
Thanks man!! New Hampshire has some great parks. I miss Six Gun City a lot :( Thanks for staying till the end 😃
@@BenLaurence Six Gun City was my favorite as a kid! But it wasn't the same when I took my own kid there shortly before it switched..
Is that caterpillar ride with the green canvas covered top still there? ( also that is pretty cool about the pole from the '64 world's fair)
Yup its still here and operating daily!
Was wondering if you knew about the light poles! Some of the trash barrels were from the NY Worlds Fair as well. Not sure they are still there though.
Yeah I was going to mention the trash cans but I’m not sure which ones are left 🤔 cool they stuff lave some of the 64 fair history at the park
If anyone who is watching this in 2022, the area around the fountain ie the path was getting fixed.
As someone who currently works at canobie, the gift shops in the park were originally owned by separate people, and almost all the gift shops besides the one next to the Boston tea party are owned by the park.
You are right about the direction of the train, which went around the park
Great video
Thank you
The new station if I’m remembering correctly was always there as a second station. Shame they shortened it fir the water park nobody even goes to. I remember the train going through the line of the corkscrew and always thinking that was so cool
There are a few of the World"s Fair light posts still in use where I lived in Orange County NY. There were 4-6 in the Orange County Fairgrounds parking lot, and 2 in the now long defunct Lake Anne Country Club, unfortunately one got destroyed in a wind storm when a tree fell on it. Never knew there were other survivors out there.
:( that’s so sad. I believe there were more here at Canobie but this seems to be the lone survivor
@@BenLaurence I was talking to friend I grew up with, it turns out there were at least another dozen in use in the fairgrounds also.
Canobie arcade used to have crane games in big glass cube structures about 2 1/2 feet tall. The prizes were packs of cigarettes & zippo lighters. Even though I was a kid, I still wanted to try to win them. Never was allowed to play though. I know the cigs were still there in the mid 80's. I'm curious what year they finally phased them out.
i work here. never noticed that light lol. and i got lunch right there at the trellis all the time
Haha no way! That’s too funny
I was on the train when i was little. It drove all around the park
woah i never even knew they moved the train station i remember so clearly getting on the train there.
Yeah kind of weird that they moved it. The ride is so short now
@@BenLaurence Like you said at least they kept it. I know many an amusement park to sadly remove theirs.
Everyones talking of how they've gone there and im over here in a boring town 😂i do go to México tho theres alot of interesting things there anyways, nice vid ben.Keep it up! Btw yu should go to a trip to mexico for a vid that would be cool
Lol. Mexico would be a fun trip, I’ve never been. If you’d like to support future adventures consider joining our Patreon

Of course not 😂
It was just open
TheFakeSavage idk really? I haven’t seen it open in years haha
I know it broke down a few times when I was there it wasn’t ruining the best and it was packed
It’ll
THIS WAS VERY INTERESTING. I MISS OLD TRAIN GOING ROUND WATER IT WAS LAST GREAT YEAR 1998 WITH MY MOM. WHATMEMORY. SHE PASSED 7 YEARS AFTER
Let’s see not included were the paratrooper ride, the hall of mirrors, the rockin roller coaster, the swimming pool, there was another spinning ride where starblaster is, I believe the viewing theatre by where the casino is was removed as well
Let’s see where did it say I have to include EVERYTHING 😂
Ben Laurence just re living my childhood lol
GlaciatedProductions haha I hear ya! I’m just giving you crap
You should do more canobie lake videos
I think about that rocket ship ride from time to time (that's what brought me here). It was so bizarre cause they marketed it still as like a 'ride of the future' (I probably last went on it in like 1998) but the video was literally a 1920s silent film, like "A trip to the moon" or something very similar. What a funk old park...
I've been on that rocket ride. Tilted up with a movie inside. You sat in little metal seats
Sound pretty cool, love old school rides like that
@@BenLaurence it was air conditioned. Nice place to cool off.
#rubicscube64light wait I went on July 17th, if u went the same day...and I missed u, then UGH!!
YES THE HASHTAG 😂 thanks for staying till the end. Don’t worry I wasn’t there the 17th so you didn’t miss me lol. Maybe you’ll catch me there next time :)
Ben Laurence That would be awesome if I saw you
I have never been there I'm driving down to go with the family this weekend looks fun but I'm going to have to find the 64 World Fair light post
I'll let the michael jackson fan/kiddie park joke write itself...but i love canobie.
😭😭
Did the psychodrome ever play fire on high by ELO?
The “canobie gifts” thing Infront of the dance hall is to all the vendors that pay the owner of the park to sell merchandise ~ a coni is employee
I live right next to there it’s crazy to me people can’t bike there and it’s so crazy for them to go there
Of course you can’t ride a bike there 😅
#rubicscube64light Wealways used to go to this park to meet up with relatives
Thanks so much for staying till the end 😃
If you go to the Mexican restaurant near the sky ride you can see part of the original entrance to the park from 1902
That place has the best nachos lol. I don’t know it was right there. I thought it was a little further 🤔
Ya I don’t talk about the old glass mirror maze when I was a kid and got a bloody nose inside it lol
Lol
Anyone remember the pool that use to be near the ferris wheel
I don’t think I remember that one 🤔
Was my favorite thing there when I was little.
Walk in the main gate and it was right to the left
Ray Florent EXACTLY!!! Im only 22 an i remember
I do, and never understood why an amusement park had one when you could just go to the one in your town-I wanted to ride the rides, not swim lol...but yeah, I remember it
There was a moon orbiter ride. It had red and blue cars and they orbited a moon, I think where Starblaster is now... then there was that rocket ship that raised upward as you sat and they played a dumb movie and that was where the Bear coaster is now. Paratroopers were where Skater is now. I only know rides from 1993 and onward that were replaced. Before that I think they had the scrambler, but not sure where it was...They had the Galaxy Coaster...I think that's part of the water park now. They also got rid of the Corkscrew. Glass maze is gone too! Pool is gone.
Duuude the glass maze was awesome! Rumor has it, they have the whole maze stashed in one of the buildings in the back of the park
#rubixcube64light pretty cool! I do not think I had ever been to this looks pretty cool!
YES! Thanks for staying till the end
Was it was the train station or the baby roller coaster?
I remember the rocket. I remember being too chicken shit to go in it and ride the ride.
I remember back in 2010 they had a swimming pool inside the entrance of the park
I think I remember that space ship when I was a kid. #rubixcube64 thanks for sharing. Pretty interesting. Going here today
Thank you for staying till the end :) hope you had fun at Canobie Lake!!!
They are making a double decker carou
Yes I mentioned it in my vlog from Canobie Lake Park ruclips.net/video/SgavM4v1SL8/видео.html
"USA Missle" was what the rocket ship ride was called IIRC (that's what we always called it at least).
Objectively terrible ride, especially the state it was in in the late 90s/early 2000s-the video they showed was nearly incomprehensible, garbled sound, washed out cheesy old visuals, and I remember it getting cut off halfway through like the ride timing was set too short/off from synching with the video.
My friend and I used to love going on it just to riff on it and make fun of it. I distinctly remember one time the teenager who was working the ride just putting his head down in utter defeat and boredom while the ride was running, which we found extra hilarious. Great times.
Haha some of those little shitty rides are the best!! And then it just adds to the experience “hey let’s go in this to just make fun of it” 🤣 totally something my friends and I would do too!!
They use to have the Komsomo-Jet cars in the backwoods but they either sold them off or people went into the woods and took them. By the way, my first visit to CLP was in 1969!
Awesome! I bet there are a lot of cool things hidden in the woods at Canobie Lake Park
Michael and Elvis only come once or twice a year, and there's actually a bunch of groupies in their 70's who follow the preformers around where they tour
Yeah I remember when they were there all the time. Lol that’s too funny
Is equinox still there?
Nope, they removed it in 2014 due to technical issues with the ride, the spot is now occupied by Ice Jet, our flying bobs ride
I remember when it had a swimming pool
i have been living and going to this park my whole life and the only time i seen the inside of the dance hall was like 1980's when i snuck in as a preteen never knew they opened it up agian granted i havent been since they opened up untamed and even than i think they where still blding it lol
The train used to go around the whole parek
Not the entire park ;)
#rubixcube64worldsfair
Also I did watch when it came out
The video
Thank you 😃
The 2 story carousel is called the Venetian Carousel
Cool
