After waiting for what seemed like hours, I came off of it both terrified and mesmerized, then got right back in line to do it again. Though Canobie is my home park, the only time I actually rode the Corkscrew was about ten years ago, and it was because, with Untamed going up, I figured they were going to rip it out pretty soon! It's stuck around longer than I expected. I didn't actually bash my head but I remember coming off of it feeling kind of unsteady.
After Untamed started running, I never saw any reason to ride the Corkscrew if I could just go on Untamed instead. Until recently Untamed had a single-rider line so it was always effectively a walk-on for me.
I remember that when they were repainting the Corkscrew to the current color scheme, there was a period when it was running with half of it painted yellow and black, and the other half in blue/green/white. It was the most hideous roller coaster I've ever seen.

Silverwood in Idaho still owns and operates the original Corkscrew that was installed at Knott's Berry Farm (which has an ACE plaque at the ride entrance showing its history as the first modern ride with an inversion.) Taking a look at RCDB it looks like even if this one closes there are still 8 other Corkscrews still operating, plus five more Looping Corkscrews (similar layout plus a vertical loop after the lift hill). All but a handful of the operating ones have been relocated at least once, and most reside in small parks.

It would be cool to see if they could expand the water park into Corkscrews plot but left just enough room to have a gravity group family wooden coaster snake along the perimeter in an out-and-back style layout. @mr.bloggie5614 3 года назад +2

Yep, they are most likely going to remove it sometime in the future. I work at the park and people mainly say they are going to replace it with a waterpark expansion at some point. I heard, because Arrow Dynamics went out of business years ago, that parts are incredibly hard to find and it needs something (I forgot what) to reopen to the public. There still might be some hope because at the very start of the park’s operating season, there seemed to be work being done to the track’s transition into the first corkscrew that looked like welding. In my opinion, I think that the coaster’s days are definitely limited and I don’t see it operating for more than next year’s season.

    • @CanobieCoaster

I wish Canobie was like many years back. Salem is so worried about the tree line. I remember for the first 3 seasons when star blaster" opened and shooting beams of light over the place. to someone almost getting ejected from the Skater, the ride it replaced was safer. the Yankee Cannon Ball keeps getting worse over the years, old wooden coaster can use some TLC for sure, the planet coaster clone of that is very good. I had no issues with Corkscrew. Untamed I knew it was going to draw many to it. to many inversions and not enough wind. Would be nice to have the Haunted House back in place of the Ice Jet. :) Canobie has changed so much since my first stop as I can remember back in '77, Theme Parks always tear down and put-up new rides. I still recall 100-degree days in that rocket ship. and the pool that got replaced with the big wheel. oh yeah, the Galaxy coaster that got replaced with the Frisbee, sure the Galaxy was an Italian manufactured ride, there is still some out there in operation today. Access to the park has been an issue since the pandemic started, not sure if I will have a chance to revisit it again.

Similar to other commenters, this was also my first inverted coaster. It was a rough ride in the 90s, I rode it once in the 00’s and said never again. Those 4 out of 10 points for the initial drop (back row was best) don’t make up for getting your head bashed for the remainder of the ride. I rode similar coasters over the years and Canobie Corkscrew was by far the worst. I understand the water park needs space, but I hope the planners can think three dimensionally. A new coaster could easily ride high over a water park expansion.

While another water park expansion might happen, it’s not going to benefit people going to the park as much as the previous expansion. If they get 3-5 new slides let’s say for the new water park, then they’re going to have the full right to charge a separate admission price for the water park or a combo pass like funtown has. Or what they’re going to do is just raise the price of the regular ticket to around $50 a person. The only return on investment they get from the water park is if they charge people to use it separately or it gives them a reason to increase prices.
I would much rather see the water park expand towards tall timber splash versus corkscrew. Where tall timber splash is, there’s nothing that draws people to that side of the park except for the pirate ship and log flume. So putting a new roller coaster over there would be in a bad spot. Especially since that area is closed off anyways during scream fest so there’s no real benefit.
