The Caterpillar ride is a vintage flat ride engineered by the inventor Hyla F. Maynes of North Tonawanda, New York, who dubbed it the Caterpillar when it debuted in Coney Island, New York in 1925.
Brilliant! Thank you for this information although a big part of me prefers Carpetbaggers description of "a ride for people who don't like scenery" 🤣 it's such a delightful ride 💖
Man, I thought that was bs, but they literally just filmed in front of the canobie corkscrew (not featured) and nothing else. How bizarre. It appears that the marketing firm the company hired was Boston based. They must have simply looked up the most intimidating coaster in the area, with the best filming angle and decided to film there.
"What is a Psychodrome?" Everyone in northern New England grins evilly, knowing exactly what you're in for. Funtown in Saco, Maine, used to have the same ride, called the Stratosphere, except that one featured deafening heavy metal music and random terrifying images projected onto the inside of the dome, along with the flashing lights. (Chicken being beheaded, anyone?) Those rides are an experience, for sure.
I love that you are in NH & that you actually went to & featured Canobie Lake Park. I go to Canobie Lake Park at least once every summer. Soon they'll be transferring over to Halloween there too. It's called Screamfest as you saw & it's amazing. I could be wrong, but I think Labor Day weekend is actually the last weekend that Canobie Lake Park is open for the summer. I think once they close after this weekend, that's when they start to transfer over for Screamfest which actually opens just in a couple of weeks.
@@spookymummabaker9678 Oh awesome! Thank you for letting me know! That me & my husband's wedding anniversary! I think I know how we're going to spend our anniversary this year. Best part is we have relatives who live 5 minutes away from Canobie Lake, so we'll probably stay with them that night so we don't have to drive home to Boston once the park closes for the night.
This was my hometown amusement park. My class went there every year before the last day of school. You basically went on every ride that I was afraid of going on when I was a kind, sans the corkscrew. Thank you for this blast from the past!
Yay you’re up my way! I always went there every summer with my camp as a kid. It’s amazing how much it has expanded and changed in just the past few years! If they are doing it this year, you should go in October for the haunted house!
when i was a kid i would ride that mine like five times in a row but the shooting gallery used to scare the heck outta me. that buzzard on the tree hehe
That Dark Ride looks awesome (The Egyptian Tomb bit is quite random, but so cool), also the Caterpillar ride is rather distinct. Finally loved the reactions to Turkish Twist, Psycho Drome, Untamed, and Yankee Cannonball!!!
I went to Canobie many times as a child and I went on school trips there at the end of every year. After high school I worked there one summer in the Kiddie Land area as my first job . The Turkish Twist is one of my fave rides. Kids use to try and stand upside down or in cool poses but operators make you stand straight these days . if you stand on the bridge of the Boston Tea Party and get splashed you will be soaked for the rest of the day and on a hot day it’s a relief and you will dry quickly .There is slight scent of molasses piped in the Boston Tea Party area to reference The Great Molasses Flood . The Yankee Cannon Ball was my first big rollercoaster as a kid. I’m so glad to see this and relive childhood memories even thought I’m late . I’m gonna try to go again this summer !
I never laughed as hard at any of your videos as you on the Psycho Drome! 😄😄😄 That was awesome, Jacob! I'm a proud patreon supporter and you never disappoint! 💯😄👍🏼
I grew up in NH and have been to Canobie Lake many times. We always pronounced it Can-O-Bee. I live in NC now and was back in NH this summer and heard an ad on the radio and they pronounced it the same way you did in the intro. I was shocked to hear the way they said it on the radio but then thought ok maybe we have been saying it wrong all these years. Thanks for the great video bringing back to the days of my childhood. Cheers.
When I was a child we went to Belle Vue amusement park near Manchester England . They had a caterpillar ride and I was sick as a dog 😂😂. Oh and hello from northern England xx
The scrambler was always my favorite ride!!! Times in our country are so low right now so thank you for the much needed distraction. I feel a whole lot better 😁❤️😁❤️
Hey there Carpet bagger ! So i went to the mine of lost souls last week 08/31/21 and i went on youtube last week and searched to see if you came here and you didnt. Today i see that you just came over to my neck of the woods to ride my beloved mine of lost souls. its a great ride, i love how the bolders just scare the crap out of you and the ghosts are just pretty chill. Ive been a resident of MA and have been riding this dark ride my whole life. Thank you for coming to visit and documenting this WONDERUS occasion :] . This seriously has made my day. I think this may be the best ride in New England. thank you again
YES this is my childhood theme park! And love the trolley park lesson - I had no idea 😲 I love seeing pics when the park was new and everyone was wearing gowns and suits 🥺👏🏻
Thanks Jacob. When we used to live in Mass, my family would take me up their to Canobie Lake Park. In fact, I had my first date there with my late wife and her two boys. (I have one boy myself). Thanks again.
I haven't been to Canobie in forever. The Lost Souls is my favorite haunted house of all time. Good to know that the Turkish Twist is still there. I might have to take a trip out sometime this summer.
Hey that’s my states park! So awesome to have you in NH Carpet Bagger :)🤘🏻🌲 also the mine of lost souls is my all time favorite to go ride at the park ⛏💀
I recognized the caterpillar as soon as I saw the cover. Used to ride one at Idora Park in Youngstown, OH back in the day. The ride is best at night as the cover makes it pitch black inside. It's a make-out ride, once the cover is on, you go to fun town.
AAAAH CANOBIE!!! I’m sitting here this morning wearing my oversized hoodie from a field trip there years ago and watching this. It brings back memories I didn’t realize I still had. I’m glad you got to make it out there!
Jacob, in the Mine of Lost Souls, at the very end when the guy says “you thought you were safe, think again”, there used to be water that rushed down that trough to the right making you feel like it was going to pour on you
I miss some of the features of Canobie that don’t work/run anymore. I also remember right after Michael Jackson passed, they had a huge MJ statue at the front of the park. My whole family took photos posing with it that summer. So many good memories at this park.
Hey Carpetbagger!!! I grew up going there every summer. Loved that you went!!! It was fun seeing the park again. I haven't been for over 20 years...and it's good to see they have some of their very old rides. The Catapillar...the haunted house has changed. In the 80s they had black half moon shaped carts. And it was totally different. The psycho drone was one of my favorites and hasn't changed at all! I love that it's in the dark with the strobe lights! The ice some thing. The one u showed quicky before the last rollercoaster...that used to be called the MATAHORN We always used to go on that one first...they used to blast heavy metal on it back in the 80s and 90s. Also... GREAT JOB on filming the Rollercoasters. I put my phone closer to my face and palms on the sides of the phone to have more of a tunnel vision effect ... concentrated...and did that for both rollercoasters and it worked! I got a tickle in the belly feeling a little!!! The last Rollercoaster we always road Last a few times before we left the park when it was closing. That's another all time favorite!!! As always Thank You for taking us along on your adventures!!!!✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️💗💗💗💗💗💗
Sidenote = I am so excited to see you made it there! I'm sure you had heard of it before, but I kept dropping comments about it in your live streams. It's just a Charming old park that they have maintained pretty well over the years. So cool that you were in the 603. Sorry to have missed you. So glad you enjoyed it. Knew they had a dark ride you'd be interested in. It's my hometown Park too like many people have said here. Dig it!
I haven’t been to Canobie Lake Park since I was a child! I remember the Caterpillar well! Oh yes, Scrambler in the Dark! That was a favorite too! 😂 it may have had a different name, back then, but glad it’s still there! ❤
That's funny Jacob! I was just there at Canobie today. I took the boat ride, the Psychodrome, the train ride and the Cannonball rollercoaster. It was wonderful weather. I just happen to come across your video. I enjoyed it. I just wish the park didn't close so early at 7pm. I remember it open much later.
Hey Jacob that's 30 minutes away from me been going there my whole life. So happy that you finally made it wasn't it great! Much love from Lowell Massachusetts 😘
The Turkish Twist is just like a ride I used to ride at my hometown park World's of Fun, our version was called The Finishing Fling. I knew exactly what it was as soon as I seen it on your camera! Lol.
Being an ex fighter jock, I get my entertainment on roller coasters, by watching and listening to those around me. Sitting next to Jacob would make my day!
That park looks great. Six flags great America in Chicago had a version of the Turkish Twist called the Cajun Cliffhanger. It closed after people got injured when their feet got stuck between the wall and the floor.
I have grown up going to Canobie and I love the paintball game i’m not a rollercoaster person so the little games are my favorite and Castaway Island is amazing so cool seeing you up in my next of the woods!
My parents took me and my brother here when I was really little. I remember us calling it "Canopy Lake Park and Sale" because that's what my brother and I thought the commercial said.
Sigh... memories, my Childhood was spent Here 3 Summers... but dang had a chance to run into THE Carpetbagger n never even knew he was up near Massachusetts, oh well hope you enjoyed your visit Jaccob!!!
It's so rare anyone comes to NH I love when you're here! I went to Canobie once, it was very hot and a girl had heat stroke and fainted on my shoulder 😬 definitely a fun memory for it hahah
When I was a kid in the ‘60s, there was an amusement park near Wilkes Barre, PA called “San Souci” with a Caterpillar ride. The high school kids use to make out when the canopy was covering it.
I remember riding a caterpillar ride like that at the old Pavilion park at Myrtle Beach when I was a kid. Didn’t realize the canopy comes up and it freaked me out; also the canopy came up when you were going backwards
Dammit. I work there every summer and had no idea Mr. Bagger had ever been there. The park used to be decorated with cube lights from the 1964 World's Fair but there's only one left. I'd have loved to show off where it was.

Brilliant! Thank you for this information although a big part of me prefers Carpetbaggers description of "a ride for people who don't like scenery" 🤣 it's such a delightful ride 💖
Its also one of 2 left in operation
I know I have been on one of these as a kid. I think it would have been at Kennywood.

the young dudes being so enthusiastic about an old coaster was awesome. love to see it.
My hometown park! So glad you made it out there!
hello fellow NH resident
Well hello there! It's wicked cool that he came out to NH for Canobie Lake Park!
Amazing place!
One of my favorite animators and one of my favorite bloggers meld in one place!
Mine too usually go there for Screamfest
Cavalier "that wasn't that bad" after screaming in terror. Lol classic
I thought that was hilarious!
Totally Carpetbagger 🤣🤣
The fried dough and giant popcorn bucket looked straight out of Rollercoaster Tycoon 2
One of the game trailers for roller coaster tycoon was filmed here, fun fact
And the one with the shark reminded me of the game too.
The commercial for that game was filmed at Canobie Lake Park, that could be why.
Hey Jacob! Thanks for coming to visit my home! Was a pleasure meeting you! - the antique autos guy
That dark ride is like Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, and The Mummy combined!
and long before that there was a huge spider and a pirate ship

My Wife was epileptic, and it makes me happy when I see people actually putting flashing light warnings before videos.

I loved untamed
Same here! Haven't been to Canobie in like 9 years since they unveiled Untamed.
Finally in my neck of the woods!! I’ve asked for this video forever so glad you came!
Me too!!
"A ride for people who don't like scenery." Best line EVER!
Those kids on the roller coaster were hysterical...
couple of bros lol , made me laugh
when i was a kid i would ride that mine like five times in a row but the shooting gallery used to scare the heck outta me. that buzzard on the tree hehe
You are the creator of bucket list. Love the older parks. Great job again Jacob !
Thank you for going on all those terrifying rides for us!
I appreciate that he goes on rides that I wouldn’t be physically able to go on ( mobility issues).
The Turkish twist has been a right of passage for teenagers in New England for the past 40 years... It's no joke
The two guys on the coaster were great. This was a great video. Thanks for the fun.
That Dark Ride looks awesome (The Egyptian Tomb bit is quite random, but so cool), also the Caterpillar ride is rather distinct. Finally loved the reactions to Turkish Twist, Psycho Drome, Untamed, and Yankee Cannonball!!!
Love the two lads at the roller coaster. Just super silly and fun dudes.
Yeah, I hope they find the video of themselves 😊
So fun to see vlogs in all of my childhood parks recently - hope you're enjoying your time in the North!
Really enjoyed this Jacob. Canobie was our home park
i loved this ride! went on it multiple times in one day at the park! lol
I was just there with my daughter! Had a feeling you would be in the Northeast soon. Too bad we missed you. We love canobie.

Drome is a suffix, means “ running course “ is in Hippodrome. (Greek chariot and horse racing course)
Spent many hours here as a kid. Wonderful memories!
Went here a few years back with my girls, I’m a huge dark ride fan so that was my favorite ride, beautiful clean park

You make haunted houses and roller-coaster rides so much better to watch
So glad you could visit our local amusement park! Great wooden coaster!
this trip was vicious to you ride-wise haha, especially w the surprise/hidden carnival rides!
This is where my husband and I had our first date. I love this park.
What a cool beautiful park! Loved the dark ride!

Never been there but looks like a nice little park to have a fun day at. That carousel and swing ride were both beautiful.
The popcorn stand that looks like a tub of popcorn looks good and this video is amazing this one is in the bag the incredible carpet bagger.
Impressive rides here.... Especially Psycho Drome! Never found one like it before... Untamed was one wicked little coaster!
Welcome to NH!! I love Canobie and have been going there for 30 years!!
I just mentioned this park in your Santa's Village video! I'm so glad you paid Canobie a visit and enjoyed it Jacob!

Jacob’s Tombstone: “I don’t even know what a drome iiiiiiiiis. Oh Psycho Droooome!”
lol
I Google it and didn't find much
I love that dark ride! Been going to this park since I was a kid!
You took the words outta my mouth, so to speak!! I thought it looked like a washing machine too!!
The caterpillar is an old amusement ride found at the trolley parks years ago. I grew up riding one at Kennywood park.
That’s probably the best dark ride I’ve seen you do yet.
This was more fun than it should have been. Grew up going here and everything looks exactly the same. Loved this so much
Jacob with our favourite theme park history today! Love ya!
Those two guys on the roller coaster towards the end of the video were great lol
The Psycho Drome takes the Scrambler to the next level. One of my favorite rides, made in Jacksonville, IL about an hour away from me.
Wow, in New Hampshire. I went back in the very early 90's when I lived there. Cool place.
My home park ... good memories. I hope you do the Mt Washington Auto Road while you are up there.
This is one of my favorite parks. The ride that you called the chicken is actually a rooster. The Turkish twist is like a washing machine.
