    my wife and I visited UY many many times over the previous 20 years as Canadians who spent 14 years in New Zealand and returned to the Okanagan valley in 2007. Flash forward to 2012, and perhaps 1 cold winter too many, the property market peaked and we sold our house and acreage in Cherryville and August 5th, 2022 moved, shipped a container of memories and our 6 rescue cats boarded our private flight to Uruguay. We wanted a quiet private life on the empty beach we stood on in 2010 on one of our tiki tours that were 2 months or longer through all of the country. Department of Rocha 5 km East of La Pedrera is where we purchased a modern secluded beach house. Agree with your take on this country ticked all the boxes required for a quiet retirement. Health care is affordable by all US standards in Canada it was free so a cost was incurred but relative. The budget here is far higher than your lifestyle in MVD but our lifestyle is very different. Place and price in Uruguay for most budgets. From Punta Del Este and Jose Ignacio through to La Paloma prices are higher as they are resort towns, and most business owners open from December 1st through March then close up. Great choices for all foods and all tastes. We love it

    BTW, mutualistas are not the public system. Uy has a mixed care type of healthcare, public, mutualista, high end private. Mutualistas are comparable to a healthcare concierge system here. Uy is more expensive, but it's a welfare state, so your basic needs will be taken care of regardless of where you lived before, specifically reliable healthcare bc it's considered a human right. Uy has great preventative healthcare. There a few expats in Piriapolis, you should reach out to them.

    Good info.May I add Uruguay together with Sweden are the two countries that have the most readers per capita in the world, the enormous amount of bookstores in Montevideo, will attest to that. There is no illiteracy in Uruguay. Health care s well as Primary ,Secondary and Tertiary education ( University) are public services, that is, they are free. Of course you can opt for private if you like. All utilities, gas, energy, communications, water are public, not privatised ( in essence owned by all Uruguayans).

    Interesting. Uruguay is definitely NOT one of the South American countries that are generally mentioned when people in the US talk about immigrating to another country, so it's good to hear from your guest. She provides information and a perspective that is hard to find elsewhere on RUclips.
    But let me make sure I understand this correctly: from the moment you get your cedula (temporary residency visa) until the moment you get your permanent residency visa, you can't leave the country without express permission? And it can take 15-18 months to get your permanent residency visa? Whew! That's a long time to have to stay put!

    It's kind of odd to see someone saying that Uruguay is cheaper than Spain or Portugal, All I know is that Uruguay (same as Argentina or Paraguay) is expensive. The food is expensive and the bills are expensive too. The weather is far from good There are reasons why people are not flocking to Uruguay.

    • @jadedelarge
      @jadedelarge 11 дней назад

      I find it extremely odd as well. I was born in Uruguay (Pocitos, Montevideo) and I have been living in Canada for the last 40+ years. If you are a single person or a couple and planning to rent, you must have a minimum income of US$3000/3500 and then you will be comfortable and I recommend moving to Uruguay. Then you can enjoy all that Uruguay has to offer. You can live in a nice, safe place, you can travel, have fun, eat out, and pay all your utility bills and grocery bills without fainting at the tilt.
      I am writing this to let people know that Uruguay is not a cheap place to live permanently if you have a low income in retirement. You will have to dig deep into your savings and investments every single month to be able to have a good life in Uruguay. This is something I am not comfortable with. I like to keep my safety net.
      I am retired senior on a low income due to the kind of job I did for all my working life here, but I do have savings and investments. I chose a low paying job that made me very happy and I don't regret it. My dream was (and still is) to retire in Uruguay. I have family and good friends there and Uruguay has a very strong hold on my heart. The truth is that I don't think I could have the same good quality of life I have here. I am frugal, I rent a very nice and safe apartment and I have a 13 year good old car. I am very active at the senior's activities centers and going to the gym regularly.
      In Uruguay, with a decent, nice place to rent and its utilities, plus phone, Internet, cable/Netflix, gym membership, health care and transportation, (all I have here) I would not have much money left to pay for healthy food, let alone grass fed beef. Food is incredible expensive in Uruguay. My family and friends tell me so. I know it's true every time I visit. Going to the supermarket or anywhere else with US$100 doesn't go far at all, even less with my Canadian dollars.
      The summers are too hot and the winters are extremely cold (due to the high humidity) and renting an apartment in a nice area with heating and air conditioning it isn't cheap. Yes, less expensive than here nowadays, but that is not my point. US$250?? (I saw another video from Ramona) no way. Maybe a room in somebody's home.
      I love Uruguay and I strongly believe that it is a beautiful place to live and enjoy, as long as you have the high income to do it. Some of the numbers I see here are not the reality. Even though show tickets, taxis, buses and eating out is not as expensive as here, all of those things add up at the end of the month. More if you add art classes like I do here.
      I know I can still go to Uruguay for the rest of my days with the income I have here and be with family and friends, but I would be struggling there, and as I'm getting older, that's something I don't want to do. It scares me. Here, in Canada, I feel safe. I would love to go to another country to be able to do a lot more things and live a better life with my income, but Uruguay it's not the place. And, unfortunately, no other country, but my own, would give me the peace, safety and happiness that Uruguay would.
      Having a bicycle sounds idyllic, I tried it, but Uruguay has a lot of unleashed and untrained dogs that love to chase you on the streets and try to bite your legs. Very scary and off putting. The more you pay on rent, the less dangerous your life will be.
      Things after the pandemic are not the same in Uruguay, as the same is happening in the rest of the world. Montevideo (capital) has a lot of immigrants now from other Latino American countries, and begging, homelessness, crime and scams are rampant.
      I will also post this under the video, that way seniors in my situation don't miss what I have to say. It would be very disheartening and crashing for someone to pack their belongings and think that they are moving to a place like Bali or Thailand where the cost of life it is, indeed, very affordable for low monthly income individuals.
      Uruguay is a beautiful country and I love it, it's progressive, liberal, cosmopolitan, the food and wine are amazing, it's endless "Costa de Oro" is breathtaking, the people are friendly, but it is VERY expensive.
      The title is so misleading. Even though show tickets, taxis, eaten out, tango and art classes might be less expensive than here, things add up at the end of the month.

    Well, Uruguay is awesome but so is Spain 🇪🇸 .. I've been in both and I've lived 8 years in spain.. the advantage in spain is for EU citizens that you don't need much to live in spain.. the medical treatments are free of costs ,even if you are unemployed. .. CAP ( Centro asistencia primaria) , the weather is awesome, food fantastic.. etc

      Argentina is in a financial crisis (again) on the verge on voting in a right wing "disruptor" a la Trump to "dollarize" the economy. If you want to exploit the dollar's strength in Argentina, now is the time...

    • @pelipequi1493
      @pelipequi1493 11 месяцев назад +2

      Right now is higher because of Argentina's economic issues, but it changes through time depending on exchange rate and value of their currency.

    • @clintfalk
      @clintfalk 9 месяцев назад +2

      Uruguay is 3 times as expensive as Buenos Aires, and even more than than the smaller cities of Argentina. I was in Montevideo two weeks okay and now I am traveling in Argentina. Huge difference in costs. Montevideo is not for the budget minded. And there are no second tier cities of any size in Uruguay.

    • @thegreengagardener
      @thegreengagardener 6 месяцев назад +2

      Argentina is definitely less expensive, but their economy and currency are a hot mess. Political instability adds to the conundrum, especially with the recently elected "Trump Lite" president. I chose Uruguay over Argentina because of it's political and economic stability, and the ease of obtaining residency.

    Overall, show I enjoyed it, just like your other videos. I didn't like the in your face pushing the LGBTQ agenda. If one chooses not to be with GOD, it's their choice. People choose where they want to be after we die. Just like my comments, it didn't need to be in this video. You didn't have much choice into regards to her comments except cutting it out. Overall, watching other videos on this location, I'm still interested in visiting. Sorry, I've offended some with my comments. I was offended by her comments. So angry face back at the ones that will put on my comments. Anyway, you're not allowed to do that because it's hate. For me, I dislike that people don't choose to have a relationship with God, which is their choice. You can always change your mind even though you have been fixed before and now are broken. That's one reason we seek God to be fixed and have that relationship. Good day.

    We are here in Uruguay right now and we wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. When walking on the horrible sidewalks which need A LOT of care no one looks up to say hi because you’re to busy dodging the pot holes and dog poop which is everywhere. Food is terrible and people are not friendly.

      YES! The dog poop is horrible. That is not a problem here in Buenos Aires. It is not even a problem in Brazil, which can be really nasty. Yet. Brazilians do clean up after their pets.
      However, the people are very nice and I never ate a bad meal there, though it is not as good as the food in Argentina, which is a fraction of the price.
