    It's great you bring this subject up for the JL JT folks. I can vouch for the products, I am currently running full Synergy steering components with the sector shaft on my JK unlimited that has a 3.5 inch lift with 35inch tires. Great install video for an obvious Jeep steering issue. Jeep is in denial about the whole thing, "can't fix a problem if there isn't one" I just installed the Synergy Front Track Bar/Sector Shaft Brace on my 2019 Jeep JLU. First impressions are, the steering is very stable driving down the highway with a gusting crosswind and there is no need to constantly correct steering from bumps in the road.

    After having my trackbar bushings wear out and getting approved for them to replace under warranty, i’m gonna be looking at the brace and a synergy track bar. It shouldn’t be so trivial to keep a jeep straight. I’ve driven super duty’s, and cummins that have great steering so having a solid axle isn’t an excuse for a jeep.

    I put one on and it helped a little bit. The real issue is that crappy aluminum steering box. I pushed them and got it exchanged for the steel steering box. Wow what a difference. The term “Jeep Sway” is exactly what goes on with the Jeep Gladiator. You have to constantly steer the Jeep, just to keep it in its lane. I talked with the service writer with the dealer, about the TSB’s or recalls with my 2020 Jeep Gladiator. The service writer had me bring the vehicle in, to ensure that it’s a factory problem. Not a fourwheeling problem that damaged my steering. I brought the Gladiator in the day after Thanksgiving for the Jeep Dealer to diagnose. THE SERVICE WRITER AT THE DEALER, SAID THAT THEY ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO ORDER A STEERING GEAR BOX EVERY 7 DAYS ! I’m 8th in line at the Jeep Dealer, to get a steering gear box ordered. After the wait, I’ll be in to get my new steering gear box.

    • @Exodus4x4

      @@Exodus4x4This is true, but these gears are designed to mesh with no backlash. I have very recently worked specifically on the tooth profile for ball-screw steering systems, and in design we definitely expect this to be close to a lash free transmission. As long as you understand what you’re adjusting, this is certainly safe to adjust so long as you leave a little bit of steering play. If you take the pitman arm off, you can adjust the screw in until you feel a noticeable bump in resistance on center, and back it off about a quarter turn. This is a pretty good starting point for when we run performance tests. For damage to occur, you would have to have significant resistance in the gear. This would put excess strain on the ball screw system which is likely to fail much before the gear teeth.

    Great video. My stock JlU has excessive play in the steering wheel. When parked and engine running, I can move the wheel several inches without the tires moving. How would that be attributed to the frame flexing when the vehicle isn’t even in motion? I think this could help with the wandering issue but not the excessive play in the steering wheel issue.

    • @Exodus4x4
      @Exodus4x4  4 года назад +1

      The excessive play is probably due to the frame flex. I would try this out.

    • @InAbsentia00
      @InAbsentia00 4 года назад

      John Yanopolous I’m 99% sure my issue has to do with the steering box or electronic assist. When driving, I can turn the wheel left and right a couple inches and the Jeep will continue driving straight at all speeds. I had someone moving the wheel while I checked under the hood. The intermediate shaft response was spot on. The response on the other side of the steering box was not. The pitman arm showed no movement for the first couple inches of steering wheel input. I will do a test and see if the steering box has movement on the frame while the wheel is turned to rule that out.

  •  4 года назад

    Don't know if I'm wrong or not but it seems to me it puts a drag on the steering box shaft keeping the steering from being so sensitive. That's what you hydraulic assist did as well. It added more resistance to the steering thus less wandering. Am I right or completely wrong?

    • @Exodus4x4
      @Exodus4x4  4 года назад

      The track bar brace stiffens the frame supporting the gearbox, which seems to be the issue. Too much flex in the frame. Yes adding hydro-assist stiffens the steering because the ram doesn’t allow the steering to “wander”.

    I put a 3" FabTech lift, 295/60/20s and upgraded the shocks and steering stabilizer on my wife's Jeep and there is still a lot of play in the steering. I'm getting ready to upgrade the control arms, track bar and panhard bar. It sounds like this part would be beneficial as well to help stiffen up the suspension. Is this something you would recommend for a 2020 Wrangler JL 4 door with this lift and tire combination?

    So just to clarify; the slop in the steering that I've been hearing about was due to some sort of flex in the frame in the area of front steering components? Nearly all of the online car channels that have a vested interest In hyping the new jeep products have stated that this slop in the steering wheel was designed for reasons they described as compensating for off road terrain driving or something like that. This must all be marketing BS then.
    Do you know if this new component itself will begin to wear loose and then gradually allow that steering wheel slop to come back? Also: does installing this component require a wheel alignment after installation? (for us do it yourselfers)

      Actually, the bronze bushing and special nut that pair with the sector shaft could eventually wear out, just like any other bushing or bearing. Especially if you don't keep it clean and well greased. There are no seals or dust boots. I have this setup in a box and will be installing in place of my Rusty's track bar brace. One thing I noted while inspecting the parts (I'm a machinist & fabricator) is that there is more play in the bushing/nut set than I expected, I'd say about .0005"--pretty good for this application.

    SteerSmarts JK trackbar reinforcement bracket grinds on the coil constantly, a waste of time and money, just installed on my 2016 JKU, and its sitting due to direct contact with the coil, until I get it off. Still have stock coil buckets and seat, running 4" lift. Curious if the Synergy reinforcement bracket does the same. They probably work great on rigs with coil overs, but thats not in the description or fine print of the part.
