One easy way to do bolt check is to use a paint marker on the bolt flange and surface, so you can just visually see if the bolt have been rotating or not.
Great video as usual. I think you should put the wheels on and put the jeep on the ground with the track bar bolts loose and then torque to spec. If you do it in the air, you put a pre-load on the track bar bushings.
I always put the track bar in last, then just use the jeep steering to move the body in line with the axle works like a hawt damn. No extra effort. Great vid Matt
Love it! I have installed that kit for a buddy who was having brutal death wobble. Knocked it flat, super easy to install and combined with a JKS J-Kontrol kit the rig looks and rides very well.
Thanks for this. I only ordered the drag link & tie rod since we already have an adjustable track bar from rock Krawler. Didn’t realize I missed the stabilizer relocation bracket.
Mind blowing - real eye opener how steering components work. Great post!!! I added a 2-inch MOPAR lift and it needs the adjustable track bar... sad the kit does not come with it.
Thank you very much! I've been waiting for someone to publish a detail install video for the JL with these components! Don't listen to the trolls, you did a great video!
Great video Matt, I did mine using same procedure. Much to my surprise when I took it to get aligned the shop informed me I was pretty much dead on hardly any adjustment needed. Glad I took it though I've heard horror stories of when folks didnt.
Great job! Funny that you did this video the day after I broke my drag link connector end on the top of "Where Eagles Dare" and had to go to town for parts. We ended up getting the LJ down off the trail at 2 am.
The best way I found to do this is disassemble the old pieces and count the turns of the tie rod ends & turn the new ones in the same # of turns. But still get a alignment. Either way will get you to the alignment shop straighter than just eye balling it
thats not gonna work very well with this kit since its not factory replacement... could be a way different length or have a different thread pitch seeing as the diameter is larger
It really wont, not on Jeeps. You'll feel it out of alignment in 2 seconds you drive it veering left or right. Adjustments can be made simply by twisting it for this purpose. If you wheel, you do this after every trail. You can waste your money all you want or learn how to do it yourself. This isn't an IFS system. Its barebones old school straight axle for a reason. When you twist this Tie rod it adjusts on both ends anyway.
To line up the track bar bolts, you can also set the Jeep down on the wheels. Then you can have a buddy steer back and forth. The Jeep will float left or right over the axle until the track bar is bolted in. That is assuming you have the tie rods in place
that looks like a great kit. to bad you have to spend more money making a brand new jeep handle safely.

Every vehicle on the planet has flaws, some worse then others. No vehicle is manufactured perfect. If you love a type vehicle then you fix the flaws or live with em. Let's talk about the Toyota's that had the accelerator stick to the floor and killed several people. Maybe the Rolls Royce that had so much trouble with the electrical system that they left customers test driving them stranded on the road. Or the Cadillac Eldorado that's engine had so much power and the wheel lugs were under sized that it sheared the lugs off its front wheel drive and if you lived through it you got to watch your front wheels roll down the road as you shoot sparks skidding to a stop in the middle of the road. As I said "none are manufactured perfect"!
Great vid, and thanks for all the details. Did this help with wandering or is there something a little more simple that I can do assist. I bought the boss(wife) a new JL, and it sits on 35" tires, got alignment done. Now on the hwy it wants to go where it wants to go...so yea need a little guidance
To be clear you should do track bar first, tie rod second, and drag link last. Adjusting the tie rod will throw the drag link off, so you need to do the drag link last.
Thanks for this great video! I have a JL 2020 Unlimited Sport with no lift. Is a lift needed for these components to avoid the Steering Stabilizer relocation kit hitting any parts/frame? Did you encounter anything in the time before you lifted your car?
Saw a video where Jim from Dynatrac was saying they use a plastic liner on the drag link from the steering box. Doesn't take too much for that one spot to wear out just a bit to allow for that movement on the that bar.
Awesome looking components to replace that OEM junk. Considering this for my JLUR. Do yourself a favor and upgrade that OEM stabilizer, which is total junk.
Working at a Jeep shop and working in my driveway, I found disconnecting the sway bar links turning the steering full driver gives you tons of access to the pitman arm
You should invest in a “drill doctor”. They work really good for sharpening drill bits. And super easy to use. Everybody has a box of dill or broken bits. Drill doctor makes it easy to sharpen them. How’s THAT for a sales pitch? Hahahaha. I’ve used one a bunch and it works awesome
Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t you want to lower the Jeep and torque everything AFTER it’s on the ground and weights back on all the suspension components?
So I use the same brand of anti-seize, but I use the copper based one because it is also rated for high heat. Never know what you will be using it on, and better safe than sorry
How does this change the handling??? It makes everything stronger and better for a lift but how does it change the “squirrely” handling of the JL without changing the actual suspension geometry?
What did you end up setting the toe to since steersmarts recommends slightly toe out? Also, is it possible those ends can be over greased? Synergy says be careful not to over grease in their instructions is why I ask. Thanks...and great video.
Loved the video, but I went into convulsions when you didn't just undo the track bar to add the anti seize. It would have been 3 minutes more work. lol
@Rick Boyett : yes of course, and Matt did say he would be making upgrades to it , and now he's talking about cutting bits off and lifting it and fitting bigger wheels and tires 😀 it's all good, but by the time matt's finished his wife will be driving to work in Bigfoot 😂😂😂
Make sure you cycle the suspension and turn the wheels in both directions... i found that putting the steering stabilizer on top of the tierod does not fit and will pinch between the steering links ... Just food for though... seems like companies are selling relocation kits for the stabilizer because its cool, not because its functional.
How nice would it be for things not to be rusted together.....

Anyone can guess. I'm not sure what these are for but they will hit first so I'm cutting them off. WHAT? Your front pumpkin will hit next so I'll cut that off as well. People are trusting you to give proper and truthful information and you make money for putting on these videos so know what your talking about!
After you installed the drag link and tie rod and the steering stabilizer along with the track bar have you had a problem with steering wheel, meaning when im at the stop and i hit the gass the steering wheel kicks hard to the left amd when i take the foot of the gas it comes back to the right place but the car goes to the right automatically... i have everything alligne to the correct measurements and this just is killing me whats wrong with this steering, could i bend the pitman arm when i was trying to take out the old drag link? Some advice or issue fix? Thanks
Something isn't right with yours... no I didn't have that issue. I doubt you bent the pitman arm, that thing is beefy. Maybe something is wrong with the stabilizer?
@@bleepinjeep thats what i thought amd i bought a different one from fox but it atill doesnt do a good job, now i bought the one from teraflex but i nedd to customize the bracket because i har it with stock bracket and it worked perfectly before i upgraded the tie rod i just hope once i change the bracket and re tread it this wont happen again thanks for yhe suggerlstion :)

LOVE anti-seize as makes taking apart easier, HATE anti-seize as it gets EVERYWHERE!
Nice to see you making repair/upgrade videos instead of product reviews great looking product

I love the Steer Smarts products. I wheel the snot out of my JLUR and the steering is like it was when it was stock.

Hey - Great idea with the ratchet strap to align things - easier than using a 4' bar while trying to get the bolt in with short Irish guy arms :)
Great job, best explanation of what the parts do. Loved the napkin drawing!

Mr Panhard would be proud
Why did choice steer smart over synergy or apex or any?
Very interested to see if this fixes the sloppy steering.
Are those knuckles aluminum? If so, can you say wallowed out?
After installing this new steersmart draglink, can you still move it up and down?
How do I know how far to adjust the track bar if I'm installing a 2.5 in lift?
Thanks!
Makes me wonder if tie rod roll is causing some sloppy steering feeling...
Can I ask why you removed this when you installed the new lift?
Good job 👍 but I thought this was you're wife's car? 😂😂
Doesn’t every GOOD husband want their wife’s Jeep to NOT steer like crap?
@Rick Boyett : yes of course, and Matt did say he would be making upgrades to it , and now he's talking about cutting bits off and lifting it and fitting bigger wheels and tires 😀 it's all good, but by the time matt's finished his wife will be driving to work in Bigfoot 😂😂😂
When you swap the axles from Sport to Rubicon how do you go about setting the length of tie rod?
If you swapped the axles then you use the Rubicon length, it's a specific purchase. Specifically, the DANA 44 Wide length.
Make sure you cycle the suspension and turn the wheels in both directions... i found that putting the steering stabilizer on top of the tierod does not fit and will pinch between the steering links ... This is specific to JL at full bump, full lock left and full lock right with no bump stop spacers...
I just did a 2 inch mopar lift kit with front and rear rock crawler adjustable trackbar. Do i need alignment or no?
I would.....it is well worth it for the investment you made in the tires & lift. Just my opinion
So what was the measurement you got for the tie rod?
So what fixes a pull to the rt after lift? Track bar?
I did the same to my JL 3 months ago
Waiting to see how bad the track bar mount welds are......
Where is the update on if this fixed the crappy steering? Please!
New steering video coming soon...
Can that fit on JK as well

Nice video.
Can you provide a link for good quality punches? I have anti seize, so I don't need the link but others may need it.
weird that crown nuts are not being used on tie rod ends..
Castle nuts
How do I adjust the track bar if you lift the Jeep
Make it longer
Just mount the swampers,,, you know you want too.
What grease did you use for the greasing through the zerk fittings?
Wd40 grease
Beefy upgrade dude!
Get someone to turn the steering wheel a little bit. The Jeep will line it up. Just leave the axle side till the end
Great video! BTW on my new channel I talk about how to buy used tires the right way.
Can you leave a link for the anti seize on amazon?
