Scotty... We currently have a manual 2000 wrangler tj that thing is a tank. However recently my wife is getting tired to the manual and would like to drive an automatic... what do you think of the JK and JL automatic transmissions
Scotty, I see alot of ads about this new top coat F11. It's supposed to be an alternative to washing your car or motorcycle all the time. Do you know anything about it? If so, what do you think about it? Useful or useless?
Your funny how many used ford work trucks from 1990 to now ? I will promise you will see more Chevy\gmc trucks. Ford has never really grasped reliability. Especially in the electrical department. There is a reason the ls based engine is wanted more than any other motor out there. Simple reliable tough. I don't remember seeing anybody wanting a 4.6 or 5.4 swap for their car or truck. I speak on this because of my grandfathers expedition that is in front of my house. Unable to start or move because of the shift linkage not letting it shift. Has 5 error codes and is now a 2 wheel drive because the transfer case is locked up. Don't let me start on my wife's 2015 escape..... So you can try to push that ford is doing a great job (probably because you have a mustang) but you can't fool me im a ford owner too... For the moment
On the other hand, it can screw up the sensor itself or the O-ring gasket, then you have improper amounts of air. Removing the Oring and waiting at least 15 minutes after spraying are necessary steps.
Question, would the MAF sensor cause the engine light to flash? I've had this weird thing when I need to accelerate up hill from a dead stop. It'll jerk a lot, then it'll smooth out once I'm at speed. Sometimes it'll just turn off or the light will stay on and stop flashing. Another thing that happened was the engine light would turn off after driving it. Then just sputters like "normal" almost like it's confused about something.
I have a K and N air filter. I changed my oil and cleaned the air filter. Sprayed the filter with the cleaner let sit for a half hour while changing the oil. Got done changing the oil then hit the air filter with water from my water hose. Put the air filter in front of a small fan to dry. Later oiled the filter with the K and N oil. Let sit over night to soak the oil up. Next morning wiped excess off. Then installed it back into the air box on my 20005 Taurus SE 3.0. The car ran flawless. But my gas mileage went down a bit so I went and got the MAF sensor cleaner took the sensor off and sprayed it down on both sides. Let dry for a hour. Now gas mileage is better than before. The trick is not to be in a hurry. Either with cleaning and oiling or cleaning the sensor. Use the right stuff and give it time to do what it's suppose to do. Thanks Scotty! My Taurus has 165,000 and going strong. Do my Maintenace my self with Scotty's advice. Shawn

I learned that trick over 50 years ago my dad told me when I was 10 working on cars. He a master mechanic for over 60 years. I hope Scotty makes it that far.
I got an old beater that I'm driving and the windshield washer fluid hose got a hole in it from rubbing against the edge for a long time. Scotty, sometimes the problem with fuel pumps is the fact that cheaper pumps have less pressure than the recommended. In my 87 Toyota Celica 4A-GE I had that issue for a long time until I removed the pressure regulator and the gasoline splashed on my face due to the rail was full of air and there were a lot of bubbles of air😅
ive worked at an auto part store for almost a decade. I like watching your videos and learning more information + what i have learned at work. thanks scotty
Scotty thanks for the advice re: MAF sensor cleaning. I have a Citroen Berlingo 1.9 diesel van that I could only start from cold with ‘Easy Start’ .I thought maybe glow plugs needed changing. Garage checked them. Tested ok. Engine slow cranking so I thought starter motor brushes. Nearly paid for recon starter motor but chose to clean MAF sensor with the advised cleaner. Boom! Boom! WORKING! Fires up immediately . Vans done 130,000 miles. Just prior to this I put injector cleaner in fuel tank and valve cleaner in air intake to clean up a bit. Thanks again. Great utubes

I cleaned mine, and installed a performance air filter. My car was sluggish for a few hours, and the next day it was accelerating like new, It is an old focus so I think the software went crazy as he said. If that happens to you, follow his advice and give it a day or two before you start taking stuff apart again.
Man, I have one of those Navdy GPS Heads Up Units. They went out of business last year. The device still kinda works as a GPS unit. But what many people don't know about it is that it has an engine trouble code reader as well as other diagnostic information baked into the software, that is if you upgraded to the latest software update. My car started idling weird and stalls at random times. This device pointed me directly to the Mass Air Flow sensor.
Joshua Peterson, if it freezes you can take it to a warm garage or shop, let it defrost and then remove the reservoir and drain it out, or syphon it out. If it’s not too full you could also mix the remaining fluid with winter rated fluid and if it’s not too cold out you might be ok.
Changed my valve cover today. Stressful stuff. I watched every video and read every instructiinstructional text I could find. Changed the plugs and oil as well. Giving the right stuff gasket maker 6 hours before I crank it. Do you ever get nervous as a pro about working on any vehicle at all?
Scotty... I TRULY think your one of the best...and I love how you make car knowledge enjoyable but memorable to learn.. THANKS!!.. Keep Reving Chief 💯👍🏿😀
I just bought coil packs and sparks plugs for my jetta 2.5. Money wasn't a issue, but I bought after market parts. My car went from only cylinder 1 misfiring too 1,3 and 5 lmao after some research I learned putting volkswagen parts was needed. So yes it's true some car you need to put original parts, doesn't matter the cost.
Scotty you are my favorite mechanic on youtube always the best info and to top it off you make the videos entertaining. Thank you don't stop making videos.
I followed this, cleaned my MAF and TB, Reset the computer, and I went from 12mpg to 17mpg. Car is a 2014 CX-9 city driven. Average speed is 19mph according to the computer.
Everything else is great advice... but @ 3:00 - "testing for a bad ground". I'd say that that testing for less than 0.5 voltage drop is not always a good indicator. The reason being is that the multimeter will only be pulling point stuff all of an amp. If the connected load normally pulls 5 amps, then there may be a lot more voltage drop in real world than when you tested a 0.1volts voltage drop as per your method. If possible, always test the suspected bad ground whilst the said component is running, or supposed to be running. Test between - terminal and grounding cable closet to component or on component itself.
this video is so timey, my 2010 explorer with the 4.0 v6 has been having jerking problems and weve replaced a bad coil pack, spark plugs and wires without any luck and i just cleaned the MAF and it hasnt done the jerking since, it did the first day but like ive seen and like you said it takes a few days for the comp to figure it all out i hope thats the problem cause if not there are some other serious issues
Happened on my ride too. It takes some time for the ECU to adjust the fuel trims to the suddenly higher airflow values given by a clean MAF sensing element. Perfectly normal when you don't disconnect the battery (haven't done that).
I'm seeing the quality of OEM branded parts doing downhill as well. I've gotten AC Delco parts made in China. Good tips on the windshield washer hose. My '04 Sierra has plastic hard line all the way to the nozzle and it got so brittle it would break if you looked at it wrong. I replaced the entire run with flexible bulk hose from an auto parts store.
GM is moving production to china and other countries for the tax benefits...Trumpty Dumpty's new tax plan gives companies a fifty percent discount for leaving the country so of course GM is leaving and now other companies are getting smart and leaving too
@@philtripe Right, because there was no outsourcing until Trump, and his proposed tariff on Chinese imports is such a great incentive to move production to China.
Most parts are made in China or other low-income countries, globalization I guess. I think the question here is which ones built their own dedicated factories over there and which ones are just placing orders in do-it-all factories? Would love to know that... Till then I'll keep trusting the brands I have good experience with eg. Bosch, Mahle, SKF, Valeo, MANN, Vaico, Hella, etc.
Although an AC Delco part may be made in China, usually it is up to OEM standards and not a rebranded knock off. One example are motor mounts for my 94 Astro. The quality of the work, the steel and rubber of OEM for $40 each, is FAR superior than the AutoZone mount for $10. I compared the two side by side and there was no comparison, so the OEM was well worth it, even though it too was made in China.
I am debating to pick up some mass airflow cleaner but my friend keeps telling me he has wd 40 specialist electrical contact cleaner that leaves no residue and he says it works just as good.
Dear Scotty, I have noticed you will flash the airborne moniker at the beginning of many videos. That might be interesting to feature something on this. Some of the guys who did this do not want to talk about it. Maybe you would prefer to pass on this but many of the farm boys that kept the tractor going also were great at tinkering with the equipment that would not do it's deal in the field. Maybe you were one of em. Thanks, Tony The Treeman from Fort Lauderdale.
I know you mention and like teasing about lesser mechanics, so here's one. I mentioned to a shop that I've cleaned my MAF sensor, and with MAF cleaner and in typical FUD (Fear Uncertainty and Doubt) response, tries to tell me that that can wear out the sensor, 'bring it in and we'll look at it'....uh...no...
That cutting hose trick,.. Funny I learned to do that after I broke a main vacuum hose connection. Now I cut off all hoses. That is 100$ advice alone. I'm telling ya.
Hey Scotty I have a Toyota echo I have replaced the throttle and it won't start but if I unplug the maf sensor the car starts but if I plug t in the engine stops what is the problem??
I changed the AC fan on my honda and wasn't getting cold air afterwards. Found out the wiring for the fan (Only red and black) were backwards and the fan was spinning backwards so the fan was sucking hot air from around my exhaust manifold right onto the ac condenser. I pulled the wires out of the fan plug and swapped them around and it worked. It was supposed to be an OEM fan that I got from autozone but the wires on the connector were backwards. I guess you always have to double check things when installing new parts on your car.
Fuel pump Ford focus . my original pump caused it not to start when engine was hot . it was a complete pain . tried everything to find the fault every garage couldn't find the fault . eventually a retired mechanic said change it .it worked perfectly when changed for a cheap one for a year them it started to cut out just over a year old . Change it again for a Bosch pump it still going and working well . don't buy cheap discount parts .
Hey Scotty, l like the comparison when you compare the mass air flow sensor being very sensitive and you display a picture of a woman crying, lol! I love it.
What is the tool to use, or best way to get ignition wires un cipped? I have a Honda Accord with the ignition coils packs,, how would you take the electrical apart?
Hi scootty, I have seen all your videos I love them :) thank you Now I have a Ford falcon fg (australian car) this car vibrate when I stop in traffic lights, I have cleaned the sensor body throttle, and the problem is still :(
I had to clean my snowblower carburetor had nothing but mass airflow cleaner .well I use that instead , instead carburetor cleaner etc. it worked I had snowblower engine running within 15 minutes ,runs great “

I usually use cold weather washer fluid in the winter time, and I use just water and car wash soap mixed together in warm weather
Ladco77 AC Delco is just bad. I had an 84 skylark and that’s the parts my mechanic at the time had to keep replacing.

2:27 ONGO MAGIC!!
I've seen some people try to clean mass air flow with qtip or a flat screwdriver. This I don't recommend.
Then they find out the replacement cost of those little buggers when they brake them.
@@ureasmith3049 Usually a trip to the junk yard if your lucky.
@@AllGlitchdOut Yep. I was talking from experience. I got lucky years ago when I brake one. Found it cheap at junkyard.
That spray is also good for the stylus on your turn table... If you're into vinyl and have rare cartridge, etc.
If you clean the maf, clean the throttlebody too, some ecms need a manual reset so they can relearn
god tier editing
I am debating to pick up some mass airflow cleaner but my friend keeps telling me he has wd 40 specialist electrical contact cleaner that leaves no residue and he says it works just as good.
I use electric contact cleaner because I cant get maf cleaner here
04:53 I had that exact issue of mad magazine in i think 1972.. MAD mag is stopping in fall of 2016.... That is a keeper issue.
Your energy is amazing
Many cars have both MAF and MAP. I would suggest if your cleaning one, then clean both. Mass Air Cleaner works for both.
Lol, Emmanuel. That made me chuckle. I love those little jokes in your videos.
Scotty, your videos are so didactic and fun. Thanks!
Didactic !
Rev up your Chinese fuel pumps!
If you Rev them up to much they won't work:)
I did, then I had to buy a Bosch!
I did on my mororcycle. Worked fine but made a high pitch whine louder than the engine at idle hahah
If you use a Chinese fuel pump on a Chinese moped you are ok:)
lmaooo
Fuel pump can also be the return line hooked up to the tank wrong.
That cutting hose trick,.. Funny I learned to do that after I broke a main vacuum hose connection. Now I cut off all hoses. That is 100$ advice alone. I'm telling ya.
Recent oil change-Cleaned maf with CRC, still rough idle, p00f4 code
Maybe bank 2 cam position sensor, I think you had a typo but I’m thinking you had a misfire code
Thanks for all your help and advice. I enjoy listening and learning
Just got a notification for a video I watched 2 days ago. Thanks youtube!❤
Hey Scotty I have a Toyota echo I have replaced the throttle and it won't start but if I unplug the maf sensor the car starts but if I plug t in the engine stops what is the problem??
I would to know the answer to this as well.
Love the pics, makes the video so much better!
R.I.P. Scooty. Scooty videos will be viewed and used for years to come
Fuel pump Ford focus . my original pump caused it not to start when engine was hot . it was a complete pain . tried everything to find the fault every garage couldn't find the fault . eventually a retired mechanic said change it .it worked perfectly when changed for a cheap one for a year them it started to cut out just over a year old . Change it again for a Bosch pump it still going and working well . don't buy cheap discount parts .
5:25 Kashawn Gombs...and put a pic of someone who look like Sean Combs...nice one🤔😂😂😂😂😏
Scotty why is there raw fuel going into my exhaust system what causing this issue?? Help please thanks scotty love your repair videos your the master
Caddis from the late 70s to mid 80s my fav. Before that, not much. After that, nope, not at all.
Hi scootty, I have seen all your videos I love them :) thank you
Now I have a Ford falcon fg (australian car) this car vibrate when I stop in traffic lights, I have cleaned the sensor body throttle, and the problem is still :(
I had to clean my snowblower carburetor had nothing but mass airflow cleaner .well I use that instead , instead carburetor cleaner etc. it worked I had snowblower engine running within 15 minutes ,runs great “
