    My 03 Regal was running fine. I have a K&N air filter which uses an oiled gauze filtration so I cleaned my maf sensor (88k) ever. Didn’t look too bad just a little dark. An overlooked part of a tune up that really does make a difference and is quite easy to perform.

    Awesome video dude, I love the reality and everyday situations a person may encounter that you captured in your videos. Never mind the negativity in some of the comments about starting your SUV, you don't need to hold the key in start for long, only for a second is sufficient enough to engage the starter motor to rotate the fly wheel and start your engine, continuous rotation of the starter motor on the fly wheel, will only burn out the starter. My question is, how long did you take, after you sprayed the mass air flow sensor, before you re-installed it, (how much time did you give it to fully dry before you re-installed it)?

    Pretty good video.... I have worked on many vehicles in my travel. Cleaning the Mass Air Flow sensor is easy Make sure you use the correct spray for that. Other sprays will leave a residue on the MAF sensors. Do NOT touch the sensors inside the MAF. Make sure it is dried before it's reinstalled. To test a Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) Start Car. Disconnect wire connector to MAF. If engine stops. MAF - is working. If engine run - MAF is BAD. Another part to check is the Idle Air Control Valve. (IAC valve). It sticks also. Another easy item to clean is the throttle body. Use the proper cleaner for that too. You vehicle will run much better...

    My 2005 Subaru Impreza, had a slight surging when cruising at 30 mph on a level road and the idle speed was a touch high and went up and down just a bit. I used about a third of a can of CRC and the car is running better than it has for years. The mass air flow meter elements didn't look dirty, but I guess they were coated with something because the difference after cleaning was amazing. That's the best 10 bucks I ever spent on my car.

    My '96 Town Car was starting to get sluggish. Found some other vids about cleaning the MAF sensor. I'm a guitar player so I always have a can of CRC QD Electronic Cleaner that many claim is the exact same stuff that's in the CRC MAF Cleaner. I cleaned the MAF and HOLY SHIT yes! SDSs look somewhat different between the two but in the end what really matters is that you spray some on something and it evaporates quickly leaving nothing behind. If you can get the MAF cleaner then get it. Otherwise, a quick drying residue free contact cleaner based on a mix of short chain hydrocarbons and isopropyl alcohol is good enough. Where i live, i can only get the latter and used it with no problem.

A couple injectors seemed to be weeping a bit so I cleaned them. Lower intake manifold was leaking. Did plugs just because. Cleaned MAF, throttle body, intake manifold, and supercharger as much as I could. After that it was doing the same thing, but it was starting now. Hooked up the scan tool and looked at the data from some sensors and with the engine off the MAF reading was jumping all over the place.

    I have religously repalced Air Filters when needed, but was unaware of the Need to clean this Vital Component. After watching this Vid and several others I now have a much better understanding of how the Air Intake and associated system operates.

    I clean my MAF every time I change my air filter. It’s especially important if you live in humid environments, as the elements oxidize (rust, in effect), and whatever slips through the filter gets baked on the heated wires and glazes them, throwing the readings off. Inaccurate air readings leads to poorer mileage.
    What your issue sounds like to me is crank/cam position sensor(s), and possibly the MAP sensor...those sensors give the engine timing and fuel delivery information too.
    (Got any vacuum leaks? Upper and lower intake manifold gaskets are infamous for developing them due to heat cycle aging...which is why they hammer on us for coolant system maintenance)

Been getting a slight misfire at cruising speed and have thrown a lot of parts at that already. I noticed on my MAF on the side module, 3 slits in the plastic that were full of grunge. After blasting with the cleaner, shiny metal parts are visible. I'll bet these are functional as well and cleaning out the slits should be part of the process? My 2001 tundra SR5 gained MPG after cleaning MAFS, but get this, I had a upper o2 sensor and transmission code pop up, trans code! What’s up with this, I was told the torque converter is incorporated into the emissions system, so I went on u tube and searched for a plan of attack, I found a lab guy, listened to him for 20 minutes and gathered this, it all starts at the air breather ( air filter ) and ends at the tail pipe, so I start at the air filter, it’s good, then I go to the MSFS, it is dirty, I clean the MAFS and two days later check engine light is off and no codes, what I gathered from the lab guy is the culprit is usually some part that is before the part that pulls up the code, 😎

    I would recommend that in addition to cleaning the air flow sensor, that you change the air filter, but you should also ensure that the inside of the air filter housing is free of debris. An air compressor will do a good job of clearing it. Also, inside most filter housings, there is a mesh screen or filter which needs to be cleaned out. The reason for all this is because the air that passes thru the air flow sensor must first pass thru the air filter, hence, its need for it to be replaced as needed.

I should have put something over that same honeycomb intake before I started cleaning the air box, or just made sure I had MAS cleaner on hand.

    Did this with 1998 Montero with V6 3.0 engine. Also had the idle air control replaced and cleaned the throttle body. Added fuel system cleaner to fuel tank. Oh, replaced O2,sensors. They were really bad. All in all, all running well.

    Yeah, I've cleaned the MAF sensors with my Dodge Caravans over the years and it keeps them running like a top. Mind you, I don't wait until they won't start before I clean them. Once I feel the idle revving a bit too low and the engine start to hiccup, that's when I clean it out. I also do the same with the throttle body. Most people don't realize how badly gunked up the throttle bodies get and how much of an impact a dirty throttle body will have on your car. Especially with these modern "fuel efficient" cars, the throttle bodies tend to get dirty really badly and really fast and most people are totally oblivious to it. Also, replace your PCV and air filter once in a while!

    The CRC Mass Airflow Sensor cleaner does, in fact, work. Moreover, if you’re using an oiled gauze air filter, like a K&M, these tend to coat the fine sensor wires in a film of oil over time; setting off the check engine light; thus requiring cleaning.
    It is important NOT to touch these wires, at all. Not with a Q-Tip - not with anything. Thanks for the good videos!

      Having a clean MAF always helps. As well as having all other systems clean to.
      Yes, the K&N piece of sh_t mess more MAF's then most realize.
      The only good thing a K&n filter did for me, was to lower the price of a car I bought. :-)
      The moron boy racer trow a K&N in there, when the problems arise. He sold the car I got it with a "nice discount" because of the problems. Drove home, upon arrival send the K&N to where it belong (trash can) clean it all. New decent air filter and I had a much cheaper car, running like new. LOL :-)
      Alcohol and q tips make a perfect way to clean the MAF. If you know what you're doing. No press, no push, no pull. Just gently wipe the surfaces and voilá just as new. ;-)
      Cheers

    I'm From across the Pond. And yes a MAF sensor can cause this problem and worse. I have a 2002 Vauxhall Omega 2.2 Automatic Petrol, and back in May 2018 I was traveling 62 miles to friends, when the revs went up to 5,000 and came back down with a bump, this put the Engine management light on and gearbox cog light on. Which in turn put the car into limp mode, with the limp mode light on. Stayed with friends for the evening then left for home, well the same problem happened several times in the way home. I stopped a few times switch the car off removed the key put it back in and the car started again eventually I got home. A friend fitted his fault code scan tool to my car and it showed 5 different faults with the MAF sensor top of the list. he said The MAF fault has caused all the others clean that and see how it goes. Well like magic it started and was is running fine. He said clean your Air Filter while your at it, because muck is coming from there to the MAF sensor, it was very dusty. My car is running as it should. So always go for the simple repairs first and use a scan tool. MAF sensors can affect so many other sensors. Oh and lastly a good running engine shouldn't need excessive cranking.

    Also on some you can uncliip the cover where all the electronics are and if you get the appropriate cleaner for electronics you can spray and use a tooth brush to clean. After I cleaned the electronic side of things my check engine light went off and now starts and runs like new, 2002 Pajero i0.

    Never heard of a vehicle not starting because of air flow sensor being dusty, yours looked pretty clean to begin with, mine was filthy only ran a little weird but started fine, think you have other problems, do you work for crc?

  • @ryans413
    @ryans413 4 года назад +1

    Well my MAF was making my car act up high revving at idle stalling lack of power after reading up on a lot of information cause so many things can cause your vehicle to stall all the symptoms I was having led me to the MAF. So I took it out looked at it and it looked perfectly fine used some of the MAF cleaner wasn’t too dirty but I guess these sensors are really sensitive. Got it all back together and now it works fine before in the scan data it wasn’t reading right now it is so I guess it was just dirty I do t know but the cleaner seemed to work for now.

    But! Here I am a little over a week later and the same issue is happening. I watched your video where you replaced the sensor completely and it still didn't work. So now I'm wondering which way to go now. I'll be looking to see what you come up with. Thanks for your help.

Incidentally I didn't even use mass air flow cleaner on it I use I use w d 40 with a soft brush and cotton. Worked g. Great. Video thanks

      @get lost The reactivity to plastic is about the same, however the volume dispersion from the nozzle is a concern for delicate wire, but if you are not too aggressive and you are in a jam, , like I have been numerous times, brake cleaner will do. Very few suppliers stock MAFC where I am,, ☘️

    A local shop wanted to replace the MAF sensor, and catalytic converter in my 2004 f150 for $1044. I ran seafoam through my vacuum system, and cleaned my MAF sensor. Wow! No codes, and no check engine light! Less than $20, problem solved!

  • @lvhomesales
    @lvhomesales 4 года назад

    I have to do it every year as I get a check engine light for the same code on the MAS and I have to renew my reg. Sometimes I have to go the junkyard to get an original Ford MAS as the dealer wants a boatload of money for it. Then after that, I just clean it yearly with the cleaner. The check engine goes away long enough to pass inspection on a 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid.
