I took my 28mm & 50mm to photograph the last county show of the year. This is what happened.

    Sarah is turning these events into a full-fledged project. I love working on things like this rather than chasing images on the streets. While street photography can be rewarding, events naturally let a narrative unfold in ways that random moments on the street simply can’t.

      I wholeheartedly agree.. this was surprisingly good and interesting! I just wish the photos were a little bit more contrasty!! Hehe. I myself am NOT a fan of Street Photography. Glad to hear someone who pretty much is on the same page as I.

    Just absolutely love the channel and the photography as well as Sarah’s infectious personality which obviously helps to put her subjects at ease. Also love seeing the contrasting weather and scenery compared to my current abode in the Southern Hemisphere.

    I really like your style, Sarah. Great eye. I notice that the highlights are very well controlled (not blown out) in these images. Is it that this particular model doesn't have the tendency to blow them out (as do many other Leica M models), or that you adjust exposures (-1/2 or -1 stop or ...) to compensate? Am looking to buy a used M TypXXX or M10 (not decided on exact iteration yet) but the clipping of highlights is a real concern.

    • @WalkLikeAlice
      @WalkLikeAlice  3 месяца назад +1

      Jeff here. I do all of the editing for both of us. In my experience, the m240 holds highlights very well. With the m9 Monochrom which we both use, it only has centre weighted metering which when combined with the 28mm is pretty good in terms of exposure. Add in -1/3 stop compensation and we can hold highlights easily.

    I’ve heard a lot about Leica cameras but never used them. You’re using a digital camera, but it sounds like a film camera. Is that the usual Leica sound or a setting? Thanks.

    • @WalkLikeAlice
      @WalkLikeAlice  3 месяца назад +2

      It’s an old technology digital Leica so it sounds a bit like a film Leica with a motor winder. The modern ones don’t sound like this at all.

    Are you using a 28mm external viewfinder because the camera doesn’t have bright lines for 28mm? Wonderful photos btw, I recently subscribed and look forward to all your new videos.

    • @WalkLikeAlice
      @WalkLikeAlice  3 месяца назад +4

      Thank you. Our next video will go into the viewfinders, gear etc in more detail but basically it’s easier to use the 28 with a viewfnder on the digital cameras.

    • @tonywu5571

      Normally the 28mm lines are very far to the edges in the built-in viewfinder, even though the M9 already sports a 0.68x finder compared to the standard 0.72x on film Leica since M2 and digital since M10. One more thing is the external finder is usually much brighter than the built-in one, easier to see the whole composition at one glance. Focus on 28mm is not really critical for its inherent large DOF, and most of the time one can approximately know the focus by feeling the position of the tab.

  • @AndreaLeganza

    The Romsey Agricultural show fenced off the shire horses when they weren't in the show ring so you couldn't get anywhere near them, very disappointing. It's all fast action at these events with little or no time re composition.

    Wonderful! Beef is so crucial in our lives. Sadly, it seems your British government along with many European countries, are working to make events like this history.

    • @WalkLikeAlice
      @WalkLikeAlice  3 месяца назад

      I think there’s a lot of issues with farming at the moment. Brexit caused huge problems for farmers here. Supermarket’s driving prices down didn’t help either. I also think the appetite for beef isn’t as great as it once was. There has definitely been a drop in breeders attending shows like this over the past few years.
