BONUS VIDEO THIS WEEK!😍 If you want to update your home or your looking for a new home that might need some work, I hope this video gives you some easy and affordable ideas you can use!! Let me know below which one of these upgrades would you consider trying??
I'm grateful. The fact that the video went directly to the point rather than rambling on for thirty minutes like so many others is what I loved most about it. Keep up the excellent format.
Oh yes, you're so right! The rambling on...I used to love watching furniture upcycling videos (now I don't watch them anymore because I know what I'm doing 😅). My favourite RUclipsr would post usually 13-15 minutes tutorials, short, sweet and to the point, while others would talk and talk and blab and blab for 45 minutes and more, while showing us how to upcycle a small piece of furniture 😂 I hated this verbal diarrhea. Why do some folks love to hear themselves talk so much 🤔 😊
I once ripped up the rugs in an apartment. I was just a renter. I didn't even ask for permission from the owner. Underneath was real wood flooring and I was so happy I did it.
Bathroom mirror frame - paint the back of the wood frame black before mounting so you don't see the reflection of the raw wood in the mirror. Also, clear silicone caulk across the bottom against the mirror so water doesn't splash and leak behind the wood, which can discolor the wood or even cause it to mold. Otherwise, great tip. We did this in three bathroom remodels. For about $25, you can create a mirror that looks like it cost $100s.
Thank you so much for using pictures from normal sized homes! Many interior design channels have great tips but only use examples of luxury homes which makes it difficult to picture how their advice would look in my home
I am remodeling my home and you gave me a lot of good ideas. Thank you. What I liked most about the video is that you got right to the point and not 30 minutes of rambling like so many others. Keep your format, its great.
I actually used flat latex wall paint on the bricks around my fireplace 25 years ago, still looks fine and yes, we used the fireplace for wood fires. I removed old valances and heavy pinch pleated drapes- such a difference when replaced with simple IKEA curtains hung wide so the whole window was visible when the curtains were open. Sooo much more light in a room that needed it.
Mirrors in general are expensive, so if the builder's mirror is in good shape, I totally agree to frame the mirror. I did this in a downstairs powder room, and it really adds to the overall look of the bathroom. Plus, it is an inexpensive fix and keeps that unwanted builder's mirror from heading to the landfill site. Lots of great ideas in this video. Thanks, Kristen.
....Depending on where one lives, the " heavy draperies or curtains " are often necessary.... especially in area where it snows, and such . ... these help insulate the home and save on heating costs. I used cream coloured velvet ( but washable velvet ) drapes and it made a huge difference.

I love this video bc u show that we didn’t have to do a lot of work by remodeling our home by just doing simple things and make my home look expensive 😊
I'm a (more 'used-to-be') big DIYer, and Kristen did an absolutely fantastic, beautiful job on this small bathroom, ending with what looks like a much larger, .very high-end bath... and for her parents! An absolutely wonderful makeover! I only just discovered Kristen, completely by accident, and I'l certainly be watching for more videos by this very talented, young designer. GREAT JOB!!

This is treasure trove of valuable insights and inspiration. Your practical tips and resourceful ideas for revamping spaces without breaking the bank were a real eye-opener. Watching the transformation of a home on a budget was not only motivating but also gave me the confidence to embark on my own renovation journey. Thumbs up.👍
I stumbled upon this gem of a RUclips video that's perfect for anyone looking to spruce up their home without the hefty price tag. The suggestions are easy to implement and totally transformed my space. Now, my home feels updated and stylish without the headache of a full remodel.
I painted an old brick fireplace black about 20 years ago, and it looked so much better. Keeping my giant bathroom mirror, but think I might try the framing trick to zhuzh it up.
I appreciate you using images of houses with typical sizes. Many interior design programs offer excellent advise but only utilize pictures of luxurious homes, making it challenging to envision how their suggestions might look in my house.
I painted our pink tiled (can you imagine) fireplace surround black. It was a terrific one-step primer-built-in paint and made a world of difference. We painted the stair railing from a dated oak finish to white, but I think the railing needs to be black, similar to the look you gave your parents' staircase. Next project!
I painted my fireplace too! So happy with it. It had a shiny brown paint...awful. I primed, painted a dark gray (very dark) and white washed the bricks. It looks like stone now. I love it
Wood tones go AMAZING with a modern cottage core design. No need to white wash, have greens, whites and plants as decore and you can easily make it look whimsical and modern and bright
If you're on a tight budget and want to breathe new life into your dated home, this video is a gem. It's filled with creative and easy-to-follow suggestions that show how a little creativity and resourcefulness can make a world of difference in your living environment.
The tips are practical and budget-friendly, making it easy for anyone to give their home a fresh look. I never thought simple changes could make such a big difference - this video is a must-watch for anyone looking to update their home on a budget!
I love your video! Other RUclipsrs try to do the sane but it's all talk & time wasted. Others put in their husbands & then it becomes conversations within them & focus away from the audience. Some of us just don't have time to watch all that extra stuff. I love how you get right in there. Thank you.

I got a lot of great ideas from you. I'm grateful. The best thing about the video, in my opinion, is that, unlike many others, you didn't waste thirty minutes droning on. Maintain your format; it works well.
You didn't mention the update I was waiting for - lighting. We need to sell my parents' single-story home, and the lighting was extremely dated. For only about $600, I re-did most of the lighting. It really brightened a lot of the rooms, and brought them 30 - 40 years forward in time. Realtor friends told us we would more than recover the cost of those upgrades on the sale.

Love all these tips! During Covid we ripped out our old stair carpet -which always looked dirty, we painted the stairs white with porch paint, then we put a really pretty runner on, and we painted the railing with Benjamin Moore cabinet paint in black. It’s looks incredible. It’s like the best makeover for a front entry and it wasn’t too expensive!
I stumbled upon this video and it's a goldmine for anyone looking to give their home a facelift without burning a hole in their pocket. The tips are super practical and easy to follow - I never thought simple changes could make such a big difference! The video breaks down budget-friendly ideas that make updating your home feel both achievable and exciting.
Kristen, this was such a helpful video. I am trying to update my home right now with little, cost-effective changes that make a huge impact, but my husband is a bit resistant to making changes that he can't do himself though he is very busy with work. I would love to see more videos like this. Many thanks, blessings.
A lifesaver for those of us who can't afford a full-blown renovation. The tips are practical, easy to follow, and won't break the bank - perfect for sprucing up my space without a major overhaul. I love how the video gives realistic and budget-friendly ideas to breathe new life into my home without going through the hassle of a big remodeling project.
Great tips! I realize that I’ve done most of these. During the pandemic, I pulled out the carpets in my bedrooms and stained the concrete slab and put area rugs over it to soften the space. I also ordered frames from Mirror Mate to frame out the large contractor grade bathroom mirrors.
We have the same and I have been hinting of framing ours but making it look like 2 mirrors with a shelf in between but that would be kinda bulky so I’ve been waffling about it. I have so many honey do ideas, I just need to get my husband on board with them, lol.

Just painted my fireplace black over the weekend. I was so nervous but I have to say it’s stunning. My husband was furious with me as I was doing it but he now can see how beautiful it is. I have a big picture that is bright that says “ you are my sunshine “ I printed off pictures of our kids and grandkids put them in black frames. It’s the perfect picture gallery. I wished I’d done it years ago.
I don’t think my jaw has dropped more times in one RUclips video because all of these ideas are SO GOOD and I kept having “how did I not think of that” moments.
Great advice all around! We removed our outdated, always-untidy stair carpet during COVID, painted the stairs white using porch paint, added a gorgeous runner, and painted the railing in black Benjamin Moore cabinet paint. It appears amazing. It was reasonably priced and resembled the ideal makeover for a front entryway!
I had oak cabinets in my kitchen that we paid a fortune to install. They were really looking dated so we had them professionally painted. Best decision we ever made. They look great, looks like a whole new kitchen❣️
I can’t bear the idea of painting over solid wood. Seems like such a waste. I was told by my realtor to update my solid maple cabinets before putting my house on the market. Couldn’t do it!
Hi Toinette - same here. Ours are maple, but I'm concerned after painting them they will chip easily? What is your experience, or recommendation for how you sealed them so they stay protected and looking fresh? Approx cost? Thanks!
I was concerned about that too that’s why I had them professionally done. I had too many cabinets to tackle this myself. It’s been a year now and they’ve help up great! Price is all based on number of drawers and doors. So it varies with every kitchen. Never have regretted it.
@@BunnyViva Haha I get it. Re-staining would be even more time consuming/expensive so I was considering paint. Of course, at the time, I selected the "upgraded" extra molding and detail, corbels, etc. which was waaay more expensive, and now they look waaay more dated. 😂
Been in my home for 12 years now, and I’m ready for these changes. I do have the huge solid wall mirror in my bathroom and have been wanting circle mirrors.

We just purchased my 1970's childhood home. I didn't want to remove the original bathroom mirror so my husband framed it in. He used wood accents in the corners to cover the acrylic star mounts. He installed crown molding in every room and replaced the flat doors with beveled ones. We changed out all the light fixtures and sinks/faucets and replaced the entrance doors with leaded glass. He ripped out the bar in the kitchen to open it up. The Harvest Gold Formica amazingly showed no signs of wear but it had to go! We replaced it with an ivory toned quartz. I'm going to take your advice on the molding on the wall. That would look nice in my hall bathroom. Thank you for these good ideas!
We’re on the same page! I was changing out electrical plates (I went with black because it’s a dark gray room), wanting to paint hand-me-down furniture and counters, whitewashing our wood ceiling, and adding picture frame mounding. I like seeing how it turns out!

This video offered practical and affordable solutions for updating a home without the need for a major remodel. I appreciated the variety of tips presented, making it easy for anyone to find a suitable update for their space. The examples and demonstrations made the ideas accessible and inspiring.
I noticed when painting the wall plug covers in the video that the plug was also painted. I know from experience a painted wall plug will not pass inspection for a CO in some places. Just paint the cover and leave the plug unpainted or call your county building inspector and ask what is acceptable.
This is a gold mine of insightful information and motivation. Your creative suggestions and useful advice for updating areas without going over budget were truly eye-opening.
Some great tips as always.Over the Lockdown period in the UK.I painted my wood, chest of drawers and a small wooden table, white.I also painted my fabric sofa grey. Was so pleased with how all of them turned out.

When I get bored with my lamps I paint the base and even the shade too sometimes. I even painted a straw hat some years ago. I needed it to match my outfit for a wedding and turned out great!!!💙💙💙🏴🏴🏴
Wow! Thank you so much!! Im just desperately clicking around/ typing things to give me some direction and motivation for my home and you seriously helped me. So excellent thank you. I'm saving this video for when a certain somebody complains about the updates that I've been doing. Yes white wall plates. Agree the "ivory" plates look old.
Thanks for showing that tip about framing out the bathroom mirror- I have been wondering to myself if it’s something I could do with mine, it was great to actually see someone executing it! It looks so cute and will definitely be an economical fix till we gut that bathroom and spend the big bucks!

loved this vid, it presents a range of practical and cost-effective ideas to breathe new life into older homes, proving that a complete remodel isn't always necessary for a fresh and updated look.
I have considered doing several of these to update our house actually! The only one I hadn’t thought of was framing the bathroom mirrors, but I’m going to add that to my home update list now too! Thanks for another awesome and useful video, Kristen!
I’ve been thinking of framing our builder wall size mirror in our bathroom and making it look like two mirrors and building a “built in shelf” between.
I did this framing in our master bathroom, and OMG, what a huge difference. It's crazy how just this one tip changed the look dramatically. Now I share this tip with everyone, whether they solicit the info or not. 🎉

The first goal I made in our new 20 year old home was to begin to change All the matte brushed gold things (light fixtures, hinges, lever door knobs, pocket door hardware). It took about a year but not at all much money.

Dear Kristen, Sometimes the opinions of other Decorators are opposing to my own taste. But not YOU, I thought this particular video was so Great, and Amazing! You go girl!
Refinishing wood floors under carpet is NOT super affordable 😂. And as a DIY it’s probably one of the harder projects we’ve ever taken on and I’ve redone the plaster work on a coved ceiling by myself. It’s worth it, but it’s a big job to do it right.
I agree. I found it difficult to even cut the carpet to take it up. But refinishing wood floors is a labor-intensive, messy, tough job. It can be done; just know that it takes quite a bit of time and effort.

Cool, what a budget-friendly but also easy to implement ideas. This insightful guide is a must-watch for anyone looking to refresh their home without spending much.
Love your videos! I want to paint my out dated granite counter tops and back splash. Not sure I’m brave enough just yet. Need to change the ivory switch plates and frame out the bathroom mirrors. Thank you for all your inspiration! 💕
If granite is natural it is not outdated., there are ways to go about updating a kitchen while giving a new life to granite by just working on the surrounding stuff.
@@vaderladyl Right on, Sister. Would never paint granite. Now, my Formica? Heck yes! I ask myself "Who picked this color?" (Sort of a muted rose color with tiny gray flecks.) I answer myself "You did!! But why?" SMH I did, however put wood-framed mirrors in both bathrooms, 30 years ago, lol! SO ahead of the times, right?
Another thing I’m seeing that dates my house (I’ve been here almost 15 years and it’s the longest I’ve ever lived in a home) is doorknobs! OMG…they get worn down and so the finish wears away unevenly. I totally agree about switch plates. Paint and wallpaper, as well as new plumbing fixtures make a huge difference with very little money & are the easiest DIY things to do, unless you do a lot of wallpaper in a room with lots of angles like a kitchen and attached breakfast room. Then you’d want some help. Thanks for your great ideas!
You are amazing and inspired me to do so many things in our home! I basically did the staircase upgrade with the gel stain and it looks so stunning. I just framed a builder grade mirror. Mirror itself is in excellent shape, just need a bit of modern touch. Oh yeah and you inspired me to take down old medicine cabinets...I only have to get to doing it, though :) Thanks for all the inspiration!!! I seriously think about adding frame to the walls. Any ideas for a living room update? Ours is pretty good, but I feel like I want something new...I might just move the curtain rods up towards the ceiling and get new curtains. That might do it. ANy suggestions for living room/family room upgrades are welcome!!!

OMG cant believe I did everything except changing wood color for my kitchen. All the tips are really useful that my friends are impressed! Now I will think about the wood color after this video ❤😊
I like the look of wall molding but it seems like it would just become a new dust-collecting surface, no? I don’t dust my walls now and don’t intend to start 😅
This was a great way to show different ideas to refresh and update a home. I'm looking for a home, and I do look at the entire layout and finishes of the homes.
1:19 Hi Kristen. Great ideas! One thing you did not mention in this video (maybe it is in another video) Is painting the metal covers over the AC/heater vents. When I bought the house it had been freshly painted except for those dirty white covers against beige walls. Ugghh. I can hardly wait to try the moulding on the doors. Thanks for the ideas!

I am thinking about white washing my fireplace and hearth. It is dated for sure and makes the room feel dark.

Thank you
I LOVE that you get right to the point without taking 15 minutes on the intro. THANK YOU!
Thank you so much for using pictures from normal sized homes! Many interior design channels have great tips but only use examples of luxury homes which makes it difficult to picture how their advice would look in my home
These are fantastic! Cant stand built ins but the redo looks amazing! And is there anything worse than vertical blinds! Girl, you're on fire!!❤
I am remodeling my home and you gave me a lot of good ideas. Thank you. What I liked most about the video is that you got right to the point and not 30 minutes of rambling like so many others. Keep your format, its great.
Yes I too like that she gets right down to business. We’re all short on time and don’t really need to hear about their personal lives.
Yes I agree 😉👍
The molding on the doors… fabulous idea!
WHAT???? Molding to flat panel doors, Brilliant!!!!!
They are also great to keep the sun and the heat out in the hot, summer days here in the South.

GREAT JOB!!
I've been painting my cabinets and we even painted and epoxied our bathroom countertops.
I'm not usually one for painting over original details, but I DO love me a painted white brick fireplace! 😊 Thanks for sharing this!

I painted dark paneling on 1 wall in the family room the same light color as the walls. Really refreshed a 70s decor house we bought.

Mine, too! In addition, he is not fond of changes... apparently, I will have to take the initiative, make the changes and they will grow on him!
Super wonderful ideas
My daughter just bought a very old home and we have been blown away with these wonderful smart tips 🙌🙌🌻
I cannot express the joy that comes over me when I see the notification that Kristen has posted!
you are incredible!!
Just found her channel yesterday and I'm hooked.
Yes!!!
Omg me too i used all her tips in flipping my first condo im almost finished and i filmed the whole thing i cant wait to tag her
Yes. She's a delight. She has the perfect personality and warmth.
Mirror Mate. I'm going to check that out as well.
How do you stain concrete?
We have the same and I have been hinting of framing ours but making it look like 2 mirrors with a shelf in between but that would be kinda bulky so I’ve been waffling about it. I have so many honey do ideas, I just need to get my husband on board with them, lol.

I followed your video tutorial to restain and paint my own oak staircase and WOW - what a difference. Took me a little longer than you :) but SUCH an upgrade and so affordable!

@@Toinette2883 thanks so much for your quick answer and the info. Good to know. I appreciate it!
@@BunnyViva Haha I get it. Re-staining would be even more time consuming/expensive so I was considering paint. Of course, at the time, I selected the "upgraded" extra molding and detail, corbels, etc. which was waaay more expensive, and now they look waaay more dated. 😂
you are so practical. I've been following you for months and I've changed my bathroom, bedroom, daughter's room within budget. than you
Been in my home for 12 years now, and I’m ready for these changes. I do have the huge solid wall mirror in my bathroom and have been wanting circle mirrors.

I was amazed by the transformation possibilities shared in this video. The DIY solutions offered here, such as painting techniques, reimagining furniture, and smart lighting choices, prove that a complete remodel isn't always necessary to make your home look fresh and modern.
We're always on the lookout for new ideas to inspire our customers, and this video definitely delivers! The tips for mixing patterns and incorporating textures are spot-on.

Picture framed molding, OMG I'm gonna have to call out of work tommorow I need to redecorate.
I love the idea of buying the pre-made molding. I didn’t know they did that. I’ve got a couple doors. I’m going to do that too. Thanks for all of your tips and keep up the great work. Love you girl.
It really can change doors and rooms to luxurious. I then painted the doors and trim around ceiling white.

As someone who’s soon going to be buying a home. This is a really helpful video to get a vision of some outdated homes I might come across.
You're such an extremely pleasant young lady. It's a pleasure to hear you speak and describe the process. Thank you.

I needed it to match my outfit for a wedding and turned out great!!!💙💙💙🏴🏴🏴
I paint power cords so they blend into the wall color! 😂
What type of paint do you use on the shade?
Great way to minimize expenses and waste too.
Wow! Thank you so much!! Im just desperately clicking around/ typing things to give me some direction and motivation for my home and you seriously helped me. Thanks for the realistic, difference making options! I love that you take the time out to put pictures (for us visual learners) and explanations on HOW. ❤

I framed mine and it looks good, but it is still too big. Thinking of putting two pieces of trim down the middle so it looks like two mirrors.

loved this vid, it presents a range of practical and cost-effective ideas to breathe new life into older homes, proving that a complete remodel isn't always necessary for a fresh and updated look.
I have considered doing several of these to update our house actually! The only one I hadn’t thought of was framing the bathroom mirrors, but I’m going to add that to my home update list now too! Thanks for another awesome and useful video, Kristen!
Check online. There are several companies that do this and ship you the pieces.

Dear Kristen,
Sometimes the opinions of other Decorators are opposing to my own taste.
Agreed, but a lot of the other elements such as switching out mirrors were definitely more affordable and less time-intensive.
It actually is if you know how to do it!
Totally agree! Some people don't know what they're talking about.
Thanks for the tips. Otherwise I would have listened to her and remove the carpet by myself.
Painting yes just finish the kitchen and it makes a great difference ❤ thanks
Just absolutely love these update ideas you have

Fantastic video. However, from an Electrician.... Please don't paint over your wall plugs, light switches etc. You'll regret it later :)
Why would you regret it later?

I was thrilled to discover this video. it's full of practical advice for giving your home a much-needed facelift.
Dear Kristen, could you please leave the link for the artwork you have in a gallery wall behind you. it looks gorgeous. thanks in advance!😊
Hello Melita, how are you doing?
Cool, what a budget-friendly but also easy to implement ideas. This insightful guide is a must-watch for anyone looking to refresh their home without spending much.
Love your videos! I want to paint my out dated granite counter tops and back splash. Not sure I’m brave enough just yet. Need to change the ivory switch plates and frame out the bathroom mirrors. Thank you for all your inspiration! 💕
Maybe try it out on a little sample piece to see how you’ll like it before you dive right in!
If granite is natural it is not outdated., there are ways to go about updating a kitchen while giving a new life to granite by just working on the surrounding stuff.
Recent articles I’ve read say darker worktops are back in for 2023.
