I agree. This blew me away. I almost never subscribe to any channel or even like videos but I had to for this one. She knocked it out of the park. That room is so sophisticated and beautiful. The lamps were gorgeous in the original green and a perfect match. At some point it would be nice to see the curtains upgraded. Drop cloths could work well in that space. Even back when me and my husband were on a tight budget I would always spring for custom curtains. I would go to a local fabric store and ask for recommendations.
This is what I call an exceptional video. First, her voice is so pleasing to listen to. Next, she explains every step without OVER-explaining (yay!) or dragging things out. The pace of the video is perfect. Finally, her design sense is spot on. The room looks cozy, stylish and peaceful and she was so thoughtful to ask Madison what her aesthetic is. I’m glad I came across this video and look forward to watching others from her channel. Well done!!
Not even considering that green is my favorite color....I love this room!!!! I even like the curtains....which I didn't think I would.....the artwork is fabulous too!!!! What a great job, Sherrie! You never let me down.....sure you don't want to adopt an almost 70 year old lady as another daughter....or something?! LOL!!!!
You truly are freaking amazing!! I love everything!! What a blessing you are to your family!! Not only because you are so incredibly talented but it's easy to see what a lovely and kind person you are! 💚🌱🍃
You prove, time & again, you don't need lots of money or even help (lol) in making over a room.Thank you for sharing your skills & love for improving spaces on a tight budget! Jenny
I can't even describe the emotions that I feel when I want your video because there are so many. I have struggled for 40 years just to keep my home I am a single mother of four children always working at least two jobs and going to school in the evening while taking care of a child strickened with a disease and being a caregiver for my elderly parents. After an injury at work and COVID hitting they would not take me back I have struggled to find work because of my age needless to say I cannot put any money into my home so to speak but watching your videos gives me hope that I can make my home something that would be enjoyable to be in for myself and my son who never really leaves. I have never really shopped retail and have always depended on salvation army goodwills local community thrift stores so I am so thankful that I found your channel like I said you are just a ray of hope to me thank you so much for this awesome video I am so grateful for you
I have putting out "wishes" on my local Buy Nothing Facebook special interest groups a,good course of free items, even paint! I have passed on items to others on the place. I like that community is helping comminity, both in giving and getting.
Wow. Sounds like you really have your head full! My heart goes out to you my fellow single mother! And being a caregiver is no joke. You are so important to us all and I for one really appreciate all that you do for all the people in your life. Thank you. You are Loved ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Your re-use recycle ideas are always so inspirational and refreshing. Kudos also to Spencer and Madeline for sidestepping the “want it all new and now” mentality. Hopefully over time they will realize that most older furniture is far better made than today’s trendy fare. At 75, most of my wood furniture was my parents! As public school teachers, thriftiness was a necessity and hand-me-downs were welcomed!
Thank you, Jane! As a young teacher, I was happy to take furniture others didn’t want. My husband and I had old school desks as end tables in the our living room for several years!
Of course another home run! Love how it all came together… you don’t even notice the wall color with all the beautiful additions to the room. And those lamps! Beautiful. Your son’s girlfriends hit the jackpot with you!!!!
The home makeover shows make me want to throw out everything I own every few years. What I have discovered is that you should furnish your home gradually and resist the urge to have everything completed in a month. Create Pinterest boards for your dream hone elements. Before you do anything, use a tape measure. How many times have I bought something in a thrift store or consignment shop and discover, too late, it is too big for my room? You cannot buy window treatments without measuring your windows. I gave a 930 square foot house built in 19t0. Visitors always compliment how relaxed and comfortable they feel with my eclectic furnishings mainly acquired at consignment stores and walls painted in soothing colors.
Great job! It’s really beautiful. It went from college rental to adult charm in 2 days. I know your son & his girlfriend are loving it. And those lamps….I’m so jealous! What a find!
goodness - what an improvement! Those green lamps are utterly stunning and the black dresser is a great fit. I hope your animal assistants got overtime pay!!
Wow! What a beautiful transformation! Your imagination paired with thriftiness just proves that it doesn’t take lots of money to turn a “ho-hum space” into a gorgeous and homey retreat! What a lucky son you have!😍
I loved trading spaces back in the day. You’d put many of them interior designers to shame. Your creativity and ability to transform thrifted items into something beautiful and timeless is inspiring. 😊
That room went from boring & bland to bright & beautiful! I love the peel & stick wallpaper. And those lamps are perfect! That landlord is getting designer makeovers-he should let you do what you want & be grateful.
I am a interior designer, and I think you did a beautiful job reusing and upcycling. People think if they rent, they can't make their space theirs. You proved them wrong. 😊 Great job
Elegant. You are so nice to do this for the young couple. If the landlord saw any of your videos he would surely give you full control. Love your designs!❤
The mostly green theme and the warm vintage look brought to my mind, 'Cents (thrifted items) and Sensibility (Practicality)'. You did a beautiful job with this makeover! :)
Your son and his girlfriend must be thrilled with this makeover. The accent wall behind the bed makes the room. It's a shame that the landlord wouldn't let you do anything to the closet doors. They distract from the gorgeous room you created. Job well done my friend. ❤
I really love the way this came out. It would’ve been super helpful for those of us that would like to copy this look if you would’ve specified the color green you used and where you got the wallpaper.❤
No one’s going to mention the adorable cat supervising your project? And the same kitty was peering through the window at the end. I wanted to reach out and pet the cute kitty! You have a lot of talent. 😻
What a great job! Love your attention to the details in Madison’s inspiration photos. The room is beautiful, clearly you are talented and clever. The respect and loving energy is what spoke loudest to me. You are all lucky to have each other.
It’s TOO pretty to sleep in! I just really love how good everything works together, and I especially love the beautiful landscape prints! I looks fantastic! What an improvement!
What a beautiful re-do. Love when you able to repurpose things. There is so much more “weight” to old pieces. I’m sure they were thrilled with the result!
What a wonderful gesture to your son and Madison! I'm not a "modern" enthusiast, but the green wallpaper was purely inspired and what a great wainscoting idea! I live in an Over 55 apartment and I plan to ask the landlord if I can do that. The real kicker was the way you made 2 large, pretty pictures! I'm stealing that idea too. Thanks to you I'm a woman "...with a vision, on a mission "! Youre a genius!😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This looks absolutely amazing, just beautiful!! If that landlord was smart he would’ve given you carte blanche because you would’ve taken it up an even further notch with the doors and walls. If I had a rental home, I’d give you free rein to do anything you wanted! Lol 😂 What a find with the lamps!!
Sherry, I absolutely love this makeover, but I love all your room makeovers. Was just rewatching when you worked your magic on the total basement makeover for your son. You are one talented lady!
Our Dear Ms.Sherry, everyone needs extra storage space. Especially apartments, which i am assuming this is. Bed risers are super cheap. Just purchase one for each leg, (some beds have 5 legs) and place the legs into the risers. Instant 8 to 10 inches more storage space under the bed, and a higher bed looks good, too!! I have done this for every bed in every house i have lived in, and it is EXCELLENT! Often you can fit complete lidded tubs underneath (recommend clear for easy viewing) and/or gobs of stuff including Christmas decorations. If you want to cover the space underneath, get a couple of thrifted sheets cut to a depth to stop just above the floor and glue gun them along the bed's bottom frame in either a flat style or gather and glue gun them for a more 'cottagy' finish!
Yes, I actually doubled them so it's high enough for Rubbermaid roughneck storage bins. Lots of storage, even under a twin!. Just be sure to use a foam mattress that doesn't require a box spring unless you are very tall. 😂
I always like when there’s a room makeover, and the people who are going to be occupying the room come in and get to see it. I love to see their reaction and I think you should do this. You did a really great job.
You are so clever at reusing thrift store items. I love your idea of the peel & stick wallpaper. The whole room looks fabulous. They must be very happy with their new room.👍🏼👍🏼
I'm a brand new subscriber and I loved this video. You explained and showed everything you did so well. I appreciate that because it gives those of us that aren't decorators some encouragement that we too can do it! Love using all your alternative methods as well such as thrift store and reusable finds because that is great on the ole budget! Will be watching more for sure! Thank you!
What a beautiful sanctuary you created for them! The landlord was a fool not to let you do the closet doors, etc. If I were them, i would have welcomed the upgrade to the 1972 situation going on there!
I love it! You mentioned Trading Spaces, which I enjoyed, but this reminded me of the show Decorating Cents, which was one of my very favorites. Great job!
You have wrought a miracle! That is one amazing transformation! Everything looks so high-end. You could hang a mirror over the other night stand to balance the window, but you'd need another curtain. I'm in love with that wallpaper and moulding wall behind the bed. The whole flip is brilliant! Madison and Spencer are so lucky to have you.❤
First time I've been on your channel. My first question is, how long have you been an interior designer? And then, how long were you in school for interior design?😊 Plus, you're clearly gifted. Beautiful.
You are amazing! I like that you're not into cookie cutter do overs. I prefer your way than the perfection of others who have money to spare. I learn a lot watching your show! Thank you!
Your new interior design of the bedroom is beautiful! What a dramatic change. I wish you could redesign mine -- but I will just take inspiration from this and other room makeovers you have done. It was such a joy to watch your work unfold.
Absolutely stunning and without hiring a professional decorator. I myself have a know-how in makeovers and decorating. Your son is lucky to have you🙂 Bravo. Peace and Love ☮️❤️ from sunny 🌅 Greece 🏖️🇬🇷🇺🇲
Amazing Sherry! This room looks BETTER than the inspiration photos! BRAVO! Spencer and Madison are so lucky to have such a talented family home designer! I love this so much!
As a resident of Florida, preparing for hurricanes/power outages is a fact of life. I tend to accumulate things that don't need refrigeration, especially in summer. My habit is to store water in my deep freezer (in ziplock bags). This way I have ice, and when it melts I have water. I am trying to grow my own vegetables, mainly so I know what I am eating. I feel your pain. I am also concerned about the hatred that is so prevalent. I have a policy of not discussing politics, but it hurts to hear friends (?) call conservatives things that they KNOW I am not about. You are spot on in your views! Thanks for being brave!
Beautifully re-done. I love me a good “before-and-after” and when it’s not only well designed but pulled off on a budget with recycled/upcycled/re-used and thrifted items it’s even better!
I wouldn’t change a thing in this bedroom that you had done over. You did a beautiful job for not being able to paint a closet doors or bdroom door it’s amazing. I’m gonna have to get brave n try using the peel n stick wallpaper as yours looks so nice as a back drop for the bed. I can’t believe HGTV hasn’t hit you up yet in doing your makeovers. So much talent! ♥️♥️♥️😊👍👍👍👍🌟
This is truly one of the best home makeover videos I’ve seen out of the thousands that I’ve watched. First starters, I can so much identify with moving to your first apartment with practically nothing but a bed, Walmart sheets and bedspread and an old lamp scrounged from a curbside. The high end designers have budgets that sometimes include knocking down walls and buying Italian furniture that they have custom upholstered. Your step-by-step explanations, the products used and the prices were wonderful aids to inspire inexperienced DIYers. Thank you so much for this everyday realistic project.
Ive rented for years and was not permitted to paint walls. I loved installing wall to wall and floor to ceiling drapes and/or panels on focal walls in each room. It looked so regal, enchanting and warm! Also, another huge bonus was I could install and uninstall as leases expired and traveled nationwide for work!
Love this makeover! Your son and his girlfriend are lucky to have you.
Oh, thank you, Lisa! 😊

I like that the makeover was affordable

He'll increase the rent 😅
😅He'll keep the design and increase the rent for the next tenant.
Yes! Thrift store store sheets and curtains can be a SECRET GOLDMINE of unique, quality, pre-shrunk, easily repurposed material. Good finds!
I think Madison is thanking her lucky stars for you! The room is cozy and inviting. Lovely!!

Your imagination is epic. Such a great job for little money. You should be a consultant. Love this makeover.

Wow, thank you! I loved that show, too! Sometimes the designers did crazy things and the homeowners were not happy! Remember, Hildie?😬
@CanterburyCottage You mean sand, straw, and self-portrait, Hildie? Nah, don't remember her at all 😅.
Love this transformation. What a great mum you are to have done this for your son and his girlfriend.
Truly a grown up room now. 🎉🎉
Yes, it looked like a bachelor’s bedroom before, didn’t it?
You made that room not only beautiful but also so calming ❤

Great save on the artificial tree…and great tip on putting the dresser pulls in the crockpot! Awesome redo!!! As always.

Thank you, Phyllis. Yes, I don’t understand why I could use peel and stick wallpaper on the walls but not the doors. It would have come off so easily!
Very sophisticated. Even the newly painted night stands are smiling.
Sherry, This room looks looks so-o-o much better, and I am sure they love their new room.
Beautiful makeover on a shoestring budget. Very innovative. Love the colours used.
Surely you did it from.... Drab to Delectable!!!
Thank you so much, Rebecca! 😊
You can tell that is a 50s-60s style home with the light fixture and those closet doors, a time period my dad built homes like that.
From dumpy into a work of art. I know they are thrilled and you should be very proud.

Our Dear Ms.Sherry, everyone needs extra storage space. Especially apartments, which i am assuming this is. Bed risers are super cheap. Oh, Michael, that is a fabulous idea!! I always wondered if those risers were sturdy. Love the idea of hot gluing a sheet on the bed frame!!!
I've done the same thing.. and now that I'm older it sure makes getting out of bed a lttle easier..lol

So beautiful. Love how you did this makeover. You show such great ideas. Thank you...
Brilliant makeover!!
