Transforming a Drab Bedroom in 48 Hours (on a Budget)! Rental Friendly DIYs!

- Think you don’t have the time or money to makeover a space in your home? Well, in today’s video, I’ll show you how you can completely transform a drab room all by yourself in one weekend! You don’t need an interior designer, carpenter, or a large budget to make drastic improvements in your space. Projects in today’s video include creating large diptych wall art, a hack for hanging large artwork, hanging peel and stick wallpaper and wood trim to create a headboard/focal wall, transforming old furniture and hardware, updating an outdated ceiling light with a thrift store basket (and a hack for creating space for a larger shade on your existing ceiling hardware), and adding fabrics and decor from the thrift store. Not only is this a budget rental friendly makeover, but it’s one that can be completed in less than 48 hours!

Your re-use recycle ideas are always so inspirational and refreshing. Kudos also to Spencer and Madeline for sidestepping the “want it all new and now” mentality. Hopefully over time they will realize that most older furniture is far better made than today’s trendy fare. At 75, most of my wood furniture was my parents! As public school teachers, thriftiness was a necessity and hand-me-downs were welcomed!

You can tell that is a 50s-60s style home with the light fixture and those closet doors, a time period my dad built homes like that.
Your son and his girlfriend must be thrilled with this makeover. The accent wall behind the bed makes the room. It's a shame that the landlord wouldn't let you do anything to the closet doors. They distract from the gorgeous room you created.

I can't even describe the emotions that I feel when I want your video because there are so many. I have struggled for 40 years just to keep my home I am a single mother of four children always working at least two jobs and going to school in the evening while taking care of a child strickened with a disease and being a caregiver for my elderly parents. After an injury at work and COVID hitting they would not take me back I have struggled to find work because of my age needless to say I cannot put any money into my home so to speak but watching your videos gives me hope that I can make my home something that would be enjoyable to be in for myself and my son who never really leaves. I have never really shopped retail and have always depended on salvation army goodwills local community thrift stores so I am so thankful that I found your channel like I said you are just a ray of hope to me thank you so much for this awesome video I am so grateful for you

Our Dear Ms.Sherry, everyone needs extra storage space. Especially apartments, which i am assuming this is. Bed risers are super cheap. Just purchase one for each leg, (some beds have 5 legs) and place the legs into the risers. Instant 8 to 10 inches more storage space under the bed, and a higher bed looks good, too!! I have done this for every bed in every house i have lived in, and it is EXCELLENT! Often you can fit complete lidded tubs underneath (recommend clear for easy viewing) and/or gobs of stuff including Christmas decorations. If you want to cover the space underneath, get a couple of thrifted sheets cut to a depth to stop just above the floor and glue gun them along the bed's bottom frame in either a flat style or gather and glue gun them for a more 'cottagy' finish!

I've done the same thing.. and now that I'm older it sure makes getting out of bed a lttle easier..lol

Yes, I actually doubled them so it's high enough for Rubbermaid roughneck storage bins. Lots of storage, even under a twin!. Just be sure to use a foam mattress that doesn't require a box spring unless you are very tall. 😂
I too have done this in my bedroom. I have six "drawers" under our king-size bed!
As a resident of Florida, preparing for hurricanes/power outages is a fact of life. I tend to accumulate things that don't need refrigeration, especially in summer. My habit is to store water in my deep freezer (in ziplock bags). This way I have ice, and when it melts I have water. I am trying to grow my own vegetables, mainly so I know what I am eating.
I feel your pain. I am also concerned about the hatred that is so prevalent. I have a policy of not discussing politics, but it hurts to hear friends (?) call conservatives things that they KNOW I am not about. You are spot on in your views! Thanks for being brave!
This looks absolutely amazing, just beautiful!! If that landlord was smart he would’ve given you carte blanche because you would’ve taken it up an even further notch with the doors and walls. Wow that came out great! When I am placing something sticky like you did the pictures I lay several yard sticks or boards across and just slide each one out when I get to it. I helped my Father in law glue laminate to a counter once and that's how he did it.

As a previous landlord, I understand the restrictions. However, I never had anyone with your talent ask to redo things. You did such a fantastic job with those restrictions. Lovely transformation. It is perhaps dated for young people today who prefer straight lines and simplicity, but it's great for older generations. I liked the wall art technique which can be used for any image.

Ive rented for years and was not permitted to paint walls. I loved installing wall to wall and floor to ceiling drapes and/or panels on focal walls in each room. It looked so regal, enchanting and warm! Also, another huge bonus was I could install and uninstall as leases expired and traveled nationwide for work!
It’s TOO pretty to sleep in! I just really love how good everything works together, and I especially love the beautiful landscape prints! I looks fantastic! What an improvement!

Wow, you did a fantastic job! It is so warm and cozy…not too feminine or too masculine 🙂 A tip for future projects: I have made drapes out of huge drop cloths. They are a nice neutral and with their imperfections actually have the look of raw silk! Plus, I love that I can have a very full drape without spending a fortune! I even covered a thrifted wingback chair in drop cloth. No one could believe it was such an inexpensive material, it looked like a million bucks! I am NOT saying anything bad about your room everything is perfect including the drapes ❤️ I’m only offering a suggestion if you ever need a huge piece of fabric on the cheap. Thanks for sharing.
