This might just be the most boring kitchen I have ever seen! Everything is white, beige, and brown. Let’s see if we can infuse it will color, style, and personality for less than $300! Oh, and we have to do it in a rental friendly way, so we’ll be installing peel and stick backsplash tiles, peel and stick wallpaper, and other landlord approved changes. I hope you’ll let me know what you think!

I’m glad the cabinets were not painted. The wood tone is quite pleasing and gives this space some character. I am really tired of seeing white painted cabinets so much.
And gray everything.... 🫥
Give the wood a good cleaning and it will make a huge change without painting. I, too, am tired of the white/gray/beige that all designers seem to love. I love the big, bold wall paper used here. Not all of it is to my personal taste, but I do like the outcome very much.
Agreed -white & grey for the Pinterest sheep- so unimaginative and boring.
Those wood cabinets are beautiful . Hopefully the landlord is ok with having his kitchen hardware painted black. Again this house is his property and rentals and homes for sale are best kept neutral. These updates and colors won’t appeal to everyone.
When this couple buys their own home then they can decorate it the way they want.
Thank goodness I can escape from all of the bad news and watch Sherry bring light in!
I cannot stress enough how much I am obsessed with this channel!
Thank you! And, yes, so much bad news. I may have to stop watching the news.
My thought exactly!
The makeover turned out beyond wonderful.😊
What bad news? Everything is honkey dorey!
WOW, WOW, WOW!!!! Madison hit the jack pot having her own interior designer.❤❤❤
Oh, Maggie, you’re so sweet! 😊
Madison is talented as well. Great choice of pictures.
Sherry, the redo is stunning. Such a difference. Thanks for the decorating how-tos. Once a teacher always a teacher.
You are wonderful
Maggie, I’m new to your channel. You said you like traditional. I think I do too. It’s so cozy. I love how you put things together. Thank you for keeping things real.
I'm glad to find a decorating channel that shows regular (not expensive) homes with changes to make on a budget. Finally! Thank you.
That part! People with small budgets with lux spaces that aren't just glam or bedazzled to death. Her spaces are beautiful and inspired and easy to achieve for many people. 😊
I also watch a channel called Engineer your Space. She lives in a rental and is very creative.
Your labor; time planning, sourcing (aka shopping) and installation would triplethe cost of this project. Great Job.
How TOTALLY FORTUNATE for these kids to have a family member with such amazing taste and abilities ❤❤❤❤❤
our kids in their younger years wouldnt have thought that our helicoptering in their apartment would be so good, but different families have different dynamics..
They're also lucky the landlord allows all this
Wow, Sherry, what a difference! I bet your son and his girlfriend love it. How nice it is to have parents who help out. My husband and I have always done so with our sons.
Thank you! I’m sure your sons appreciate your help, too! 😃
Oh, Sherry! No one can top you! What a treat to go to RUclips and you have made-over a room AND it looks like this!!! You are the reigning Queen of Decordom!
Oh, Lydia, you are always too kind! 🥰
No one!! 😀
You are definitely the mother of the year for all you did for your son & his girlfriend!! Hope they realize how lucky they are to have you & your talents!! Gorgeous updo👏👏👏
The redo of their kitchen is absolutely adorable. It is so warm and cozy. I love it and I’m sure your son and his girl does too. Just another great job, as always 😊
Thank you so much, Joy!
Alot of landlords aren't allowing peel and stick tiles and wallpaper any more because they do still peel the paint off when removed. So what I did is staple foam board to the walls, sealed the seams, and placed my tiles and wallpaper on it. With this method, you could also use regular wallpaper, real cloth with wallpaper glue etc. This way when you move, it's super fast to remove, leaves no holes or damages at all. Staple markings are so tiny, when they repaint before new renters, the paint fills them in, plus, you can't even see the staple marks anyway. Just staple the 4 corners and 1 in the center. You'll thank me later when you have to move. Plus, your wall decor, colors etc is limitless with this method!
Awesome, what a great idea…thanks for sharing!!
I thank you for this idea. I'll be using this in the near future.
Yes! You can use foam board or a plastic sheet under those tiles. I use fabric on my walls quite often in place of wall paper. I use tiny brads to tack it in place. It creates a wallpaper look without the paste. Take it down, a tiny touch of spackle and zero damage to the wall paint.
@@gusmonster59 I use plastic on top of my floors before I lay down self stick tiles, linoleum, carpet or wood planks, then I use hot glue to seal the seams along the baseboard (easy to peel off without removing paint or causing damage, but I dont use it alomg the seams on the outside for carpet) so water or soil doesn't seep through. The foam board technique on walls I used for tiles, self stick faux 3d tiles and the faux brick, I even used cardboard stapled beneath the faux brick and shiplap, since what's beneath,is well hidden. I've used tiny Brad nails for paneling, as you suggested. Particularly for the chail rail length and below. There's so many ways to apply new wall treatments and flooring without damage.
What about just leaving the wallpaper on wall for the next people who will live there?
Really beautiful! You turned a builder's grade kitchen into an elegant, welcoming heart of the home! And...there's nothing like a durable wallpaper to improve a pony wall under a bar. You've outdone yourself; how blessed Spencer and Madison are to have you!!
Thank you so much, Charlene! You are so very kind! 😊
WOW! What a difference you made! I agree with your son, it looks so much more cozy. Absolutely stunning.
Thanks so much, Beverly! 😊
It looks so expensive. Honestly its so classy it looks like thousands have been spent. I love that a young couple have such elegant traditional taste
What an unbelievable transformation the landlord will love you! He will probably beg them to leave everything up when they decide to move out!
Oh, what a lovely compliment, Tatiana! 😊
Wow looks awesome.
I agree! Landlord may be sorry they didn’t do it with more permanent materials! 😂
It will be up to the tenants to remove ll and leave it as they found it. Unless the landlord wishes it to stay.
The landlord may want everything removed on leaving. If I owned the house I wouldn’t allow all those sticky tiles and wallpaper. I hope the chairs were your daughter’s, I’d also want the chairs as they were. Tassels on lampshades are old fashioned. However the place looks great and cosy.
The kitty is the REAL star of the video LOL! So ready and willing to help out and do stuff for you I have some very furry "supervisors" of my own.
Actually I really like the cabinets color. And with the green it looks amazing ❤
Yay! Thank you!
Ahh there’s the bird! It all came together beautifully. They are so lucky to have a DIY mother☺️
OF COURSE there are birds! 😂 🦆🦢🦜
I'd be so thankful for a kitchen in such good condition!
I know! That is a much better kitchen than I had at their age!
Oh my goodness Sherry! What a beautiful transformation! The bar stool cushions are so lovely. The wallpaper on the island is such a a great touch. Madison and Spencer are very blessed to have you. 🤗
It is so amazing how the black cabinet hardware really does bring all of the beautiful veining in the wood....from bland to POP!!! You have such an eye and imagination. Love this space.
Some things I love and other things are not my taste cause for me makes the room look visually busy...I love green peel stick tile and black faucet hardware and velvet seat cushions and the sweet cat! Love your creativity and frugalness. What a great mother and mother in law you are!
Very busy. Less is more.
WOW! That is impressive! You definitely have a God given talent! You used it to bring such joy to your family. What an uplifting act of kindness and love! Wonderful to see other family members also pitching in to help. Thank you for all the tips. Thinking of using the Print to Size app I discovered here. Love the altruism Please keep it up! May God Bless you!
I saw a Sherry Video. I said, What's going on?
Oh yes, it's MONDAY!
Hurray!
Oh, Rose, you are so sweet! 😊
What a lovely difference! How lucky they are to be able to use the creativity and skills of you and Madison's father. The landlord should be pleased.
You truly amaze me! Between your keen eye for design and your unlimited imagination. I truly believe that you are the best! ❤😊
Wow, thank you! You are always so so sweet, Cheryl! 🥰
It’s all so beautiful.
Just about the cutest and sweetest transformation I've seen in a long time Sherry. I know Madison played a big part in what she wanted, too. Very well done Spencer with velvet chairs...velvet is always so rich looking. What a beautiful home ❤
Everything turned out great! This was a nice revamp. Just an FYI, some people still use landlines and installing them is very expensive now. Cutting that line might cost them if/when moving out.
It looks beautiful what a difference that wallpaper made.
I know, right? I would actually like to paper that other large wall, too!
What a sweet family...this woman's expertise is vast, her taste sophistocated, but she did what few "professionals" take the care to do....she RESPECTED the wishes of the "clients". I've seen not a few homes wherein the designer inflicted THEIR vision on the space, almost effortlessly but subtly pressuring the client to adopt their preferences. The young woman's wishes were respected as well, and her father "came to the rescue" to buy pieces which were great value (yet add a luxurious effect). Many DESIGN TENETS are used in the space, again to GREAT effect. The designer ALSO took into account the BUDGET....not running over and ADDING to the expense. This is an incredibly generous GIFT of KNOWLEDGE and kindness.
I just want to let you know that you truly know how to make a house- a home ❤ what a blessing and good example you are to your children and their significant others.! I hope they realize how blessed they are to have you in their lives ❤
Wow, thank you! You are so very sweet!🥰
This kitchen turned out to be absolutely stunning! You are so very talented in your vision and your family is so very fortunate to have you as their very own personal designer!! The fact that you do these makeovers on such a slim budget proves to all of us that expensive does not necessarily have to be the only option. Thank you so much for teaching us how to live more frugally, reuse, redesign and end up with the most beautiful makeovers that are easy on the wallet!!
Sherry, you are a wonder. Beautiful transformation.
Thank you so much, Barbara!
This makeover is phenomenal!! I, too, currently rent and you’ve given me some really great inspiration. Thank you for sharing
How beautiful! These spaces are so much warmer, and more pleasing with the contrast of the various elements. My favorites are the green backsplash tiles, as well as the beautiful William Morris-esq wall paper and the cross hatch wallpaper on the breakfast bar and shelves. The large mirror on the focal wall is really pretty, and I'll bet it gives the room a sense of more depth. Actually, there is nothing I don't like about this room! Lucky Madison and Spencer!
I love wallpaper. It makes a beautiful statement wall.
They are blessed to have you. 🌿
So nice of you to say!
I can't tell you how much I appreciate your channel. I have four kids in college and have a limited budget for decorating. Your talents have allowed me to create a home I absolutely love, even more than if I had unlimited funds as I feel invested in its creation. I love your can-do attitude, your creativity and your attention to detail. The best channel in youtube land for sure.
You always have great ideas. Not a wallpaper fan but that pattern made the room! Great job as always.
Thanks so much! We weren’t allowed to paint the walls either, but the landlord was okay with peel and stick wallpaper. Love this pattern!
Beautiful! I wish I could find such wonderful thrift store items. My 2 Goodwill stores don't have anything even close!
This kitchen looks much more lovely and elegant with the updates. The paper on the lower peninsula is a far better improvement over the plain wooden space.
They are very lucky to have you Sherri! Always a pleasure.
It is absolutely beautiful, Sherry! Their cat was completely enthralled with watching you work, LOL, so cute!
Thank you so much! Yes, he was right in the mix the whole time. There was a lot of video footage of him that I had to edit out, too!
Wow just WOW. Sherry girl - you hit it out of the park every time!
Oh, thank you, Maritza!😊
The kitchen looks amazing. You are a wall paper expert !! Well done!!
Thank you so much 😊
Sherry...Great job!! Oh my goodness your family is lucky to have you.
Good afternoon, Sherry! Thus looks like a fun installment! Thank you for sharing. Happy Easter! 🐇🪻🌷
Good afternoon, Bobbie! Happy Easter to you! It’s been raining here ALL DAY-hope you’re not getting snow!
Wow. I just love that wallpaper. The whole space is elegant and classy.
Gorgeous!
Thank you, Connie! 😊
I truly love the way you added so much warmth!
And the wood doesn’t “hit you in the face” it just belongs there nicely! Great job!
The landlord must be thrilled to have his bland interiors livened up. GORGEOUS
Sherry you are so creative. You are doing a great job in your son’s rental.
Stunning!
Thank you, Raquel! 😊
Bravo! Well done. Your feline helper was awesome too.
This was such a dramatic change. I agree with Madison about the area with the mirror and wallpapered wall. The curtains, velvet cushions, and centered light all add to an updated, but vintage look. It looks sophisticated, but cozy. BTW: I believe the cat was clearing stating that the faucet had dripped on his head for the last time! He’s mad! And he’s not gonna’ take it anymore!
Thank you so much! The cat was the star of the show, wasn’t he?! I couldn’t decide if he wanted the faucet on or off!
Stunning!
😊
❤
Fabulous job on the barstools. The kids are super blessed to have your financially savvy lessons and support.
This young couple is very lucky to have expert design and installation advice as well as a free electrician. Love their kitty 😍The backsplash looks beautiful, love the color, and the wallpaper is gorgeous!
The kitchen turned out so well. You habe an amazing eye for details and thrifted such beautiful decor. I would look at my kitchen every day as a reflection of how lucky I am to have a mother in law who loves me so much. That just shines through everything and is the best part.
They have a clean and functional space but it was too bland to feel like home. Now it's warm, inviting and layered. Fabulous! Love the mirror on the wallpaper!
Talk about photo bombing ,what a darling kitty. You did a awesome beautiful job . The tile and the knobs made the biggest difference until the wallpaper. Omg it was magnificent and you are becoming a pro at installing it. Great save on the corner….. Just amazing as usual Sherry. Ty
Yes, I laughed at the fix on the corner peel n stick. So thrifty and clever! We (the person putting it up) will always know, because we did it. But literally no one else will EVER notice! I can just imagine the scene of VERY POLITE and euphemistic swearing that went on when you got to that point, though! 😂 Brilliant workaround to avoid another whole roll.
(Though as devils advocate, I might point out that the extra roll could have been used where you used the other light colored pattern, though. I’m sure you wouldn’t have wasted it in any way! But this definitely saved money, and looks FABULOUS.)
Bravo, Sherry! What an incredibly beautiful transformation. The warmth you added to this space is beyond belief. Great work! Terrific landlord, too. You added tremendous value to the property. Well done, YOU! xo
So stunning! Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉🎉
That is amazing transformation , the kitchen look beautiful I love🥰
The room is stunning ! Lucky "kids" to have such a capable and talented Mom !!
Oh, thank you! That’s a sweet comment!
I wish I had you here! Your ideas seem to just flow... this kitchen is warm and welcoming and classy! Just beautiful!!
Every update grows out of the one before, making a fluid, comfort giving space. Well done, again!❤
You're so right, the black hardware on the cupboards do make the wood appear much richer. Well done!
The Hardware change is phenomenal. I agree. The contrast is great.
The glass blue bird is called a Blue Bird of Happiness. They were made at Terra Studios in Durham, Arkansas by some friends of our family, Rita and Leo Ward, who have since passed on.
Wow, what a difference! I really like the paper under the bar. It doesn't even look like the same place.
Looks fantastic 😊
Wow Sherry you did a fantastic job. The kitchen now has a personality. I really think th7is is your super power. I am going to watch all your room makeovers again. ❤😊
This kitchen looks fabulous! You are truly talented, dear lady. I bet even Rocko approves that everything is sheer PURRfection lol....plus the kitty photo bombs are the best haha!
The wallpaper gave the kitchen a warm. And cozy feel. Great job!
This looks like a high dollar transformation but you spent less than $300. Amazing! You’ve done it again, Sherry - I love your makeover videos- and all your others too for that matter!❤
Thank you so much, Lisa! I’m so glad you liked this makeover!
This makeover is a stunning addition to their home. The tile and wallpaper bring charm and color to the previous bland room. You amaze me with your talent and creativity. They are truly blessed to have you in their lives. ❤
Yes to the wallpaper on the peninsula!
The whole space became cozy stylish and pretty, what a nice taste you have
Such a warm and inviting space!! You really knocked it out of the park, Sherry! The wallpaper is so beautiful and the lighting makes a big difference. Great video with lots of fantastic ideas. Thanks Sherry!
I think that the black hardware on the cabinets really does make the wood appear richer as you said. Love the green faux tiles
What a beautifully done traditional space. You were kind to help your daughter and beau make the home THEIR space. My fave part is the dark green backsplash, though the wallpaper on the feature wall is runner up
There is so much love in your decor. This is beautiful and heart-warming~
I think that landlord owes you big time. You have transformed this house beautifully.
Loved everything including the nuts and especially your hairdo! Thank you.
Oh thank you!
Spectacular!!!
What a blessing you have been to Madison!! What an improvement!
They should be thrilled to have you do this for them! It looks amazing Sherrie!
Thank you so much, Janet!
Absolutely beautiful!
Super cute update!! It doesn't look like a rental anymore!!
Oh, thank you! What a lovely compliment!
That cat is fabulous! And you are so talented!! That tray hack replacing with the wallpaper image was brilliant.
You are such good parents. The final project is stunning!
Beautiful. Absolutely stunning. I have never bought new furniture but repurposed. It is amazing what you can do with simple changes.
I love it!!!!! Look at all the warmth and, well, life you have added to their space! These young people are truly blessed to have you in their corner.....not many can have such a wonderful looking home.....and it is all done on a strict budget!!!! You win again!
You are so kind, Sharon! I love being able to help them out!
Love the black accent wall with gilt mirror, super lovely, and the black handles on the gorgeous blond wood cabinetry. Not crazy about some of the fussier bits, like the fake plants/little wreath - just collect dust, as will the twee little corner lamp, which is also quite impractical. Overall, really lovely, and it's great to work with thrifted, reused and repurposed things. Well done.
Looks really cute. Love the little touches. White pitcher with bunny on it. Little birds in the small frames.
That came out so well. It is warm and inviting. Now the kitchen cabinets look like they belong in this kitchen. What a great job you did.
It turned out great! It’s not my personal style but I love the warm and homey feeling. I love the cottage in the woods atmosphere of the wallpaper. You have many handy tips and are very talented with DIY Projects. I love to thrift and get joy from a bargain just like you do! I’d love to do these types of projects for my kids. Enjoyed this video and the others in this series 💚
You can also put fabric on walls, with a mixture of water and starch.
I really must try that sometime. Does it stay adhered a long time?
@@CanterburyCottage mine stayed up until the people that moved in took it down. About four years that I am for sure of.
I love how you find so many treasures. I live in a small town with a couple of meh thrift stores. Goodwill closed here a few years back and boy do I ever miss it! I love the traditional style and putting it together bit by bit but with little shopping available, it’s not easy here. Love your talent and videos!
As a new subscriber, I've been thoroughly enjoying the amazing makeovers you've been doing on your son & his girlfriend's new home. All I can say is, I sure wish I had someone you like to help me - or better yet, that I had your talent! We've lived in our home for 20+ years and not a single room is "finished" yet! And it sure doesn't look anywhere near as good! Ha ha! I especially appreciate that so much of what you used was thrifted and handmade. Great for the budget and the environment! Call me impressed, and I can't wait to check out the rest of your videos!
