Thank you! Could you possibly do a video on how to style bookshelves? I’ve had the same look for 2 years 😂
😂
There is a space between my kitchen cabinets and the sealing do you have any suggestions decorating idea to get better illusion for higher cabinets
Omg love the mugs but I’ve kept so many for sentimental reasons. What do you do with those?
Km
I have custom white curtains in my dining room that have grommets and they look gorgeous! So I disagree!! I think it is all personal preference.
I must fess up I have exactly the same white grommet headed curtains in my living room too. I like them but probably wouldn’t have them again. You’re right, it is personal preference. Not all top designers get it right - I’ve seen some absolute shockers!
Same. I have grommet curtains in our master bedroom and our kitchen and living room. Came from Pier One and they are beautiful!
I have some in my home office and I used cut pool noodles between the grommets for spacing...saw it in a video. Love them!
I also have white sheers with the grommets in my living room and they elevate my space. I don’t have anything against curtains without them (in fact, I have some without the grommets framing my bathtub and they look equally as nice) I just don’t feel the need to replace the panels I have because they look just fine . I like the way they hang and imo the still look luxurious. So I think it’s a personal preference as well. For me it just came down to the lengths that I needed and what was both available and cost effective at the time.
I have grommet curtains and they were high end store ( I splurged on this item) and costly but more importantly beautiful and I love them! I get compliments on them. So I think perhaps the ones you refer to are not the same and that generalization is off
I never realized how small changes could make a huge difference until I watched this video. Provides eye-opening advice and the before-and-after comparisons are incredibly motivating. It's a must-watch for anyone aiming to create a stylish and sophisticated living space without breaking the bank.
Well said 🙂
You should join Redecor if you haven’t already. I don’t play app games but this one has given me inspiration like no other!
I’ve had all white dishes and casserole dishes, tureens, ramekins forever, lol. I love them! Not only because they look nice, but because I love to cook. I want the focus to be on the food, its mix of colors and texture, not on the dishes with designs on them, which to me, distract and obscure the presentation of the food. Just my humble opinion and preference 😊
Exactly!! That’s why high end restaurants typically use all-white dinnerware, as do cooking shows.
My velvet Champagne curtains with grommet rings looks high end beautiful…
All good tips. I'm old and I have a lot of stuff. Plus my husband and I are both artists. So what to do with an overabundance of stuff we've created and collected? My solution is to change up the art and decor each season. This has really worked for us. This allows the art and decor to have some room to breath and shine. We gain a whole new appreciation of each piece. If you see the same stuff all the time you become blind to it. This way we don't have a cluttered space and we can still enjoy our treasures. ❤
Great advice! Seasonally is probably more frequent than I’ll ever do,but I do keep a tub of decor items to switch out when the mood strikes.
Awesome idea. I am an art collector myself and have so multiple precious pieces that do not necessarily go well together. I have been struggling to find a good art display solution. This one might work.
I like to switch out the art and decorations on my mantle for the seasons and holidays. Helps me feel more in the spirit of the seasons. Right now my mantle is done in brown, white, and a light olive green for the spring/summer
Brilliant.
And, dust doesn’t collect so thickly when changing things out regularly.
I personally miss matched all of my dishwear. They have eclectic patterns, but all coordinate in some ways. I love them. They are pretty and definitely not boring.
Patterned and colored plates are fine, but they just don’t look elegant or upscale, which is what this video is about. They look funky and “eclectic,” as you said. The reason upscale restaurants, hotels, and cooking shows typically use all-white dinnerware is that it keeps the focus on the food being served on them. Museum walls and frame mattings are white to keep the focus on the art itself - same principle.
Me too...almost every plate, cup or glass has it's own story..."Remember when we got these plates at that thrift store in Smoky Mountains?" I just love that ❤ Mix it up!
Apparently color is for the poors 😏
Those old mugs make great plant pot covers. They tend to make people smile when I give away starter plants I've rooted up for people.
What a lovely idea!!! ❤
Just trash everything you have to buy white/ beige, sad colors. You want your house to look exactly like your neighbor’s house after all.
I definitely agree with the no cupholders for furniture. I know that things look cleaner to have all white, matching, or glass for your dishes; however, unless you are planning on renting your home, I really like to have mismatched mugs. When I travel, I usually pick up a souvenir mug, and just using it in the morning gives me a feeling of nostalgia for that place I have visited. Great ideas.
Me too I love the colour of variety I love the bohemian and boho style I don't really like the plain that much
Every mug I bought traveling, or my kids gave me as a gift has a memory attached to it.
yup me too! it gives my mug cupboard personality.
The all white is really boring imo, as are the all beige rooms.
I have Fiesta and intentionally chose a range of colors. The dishes are all the same style but different colors. I like it. Love Fiesta though.
Folks, remember she is telling us how to make our homes look luxurious and high end, not casually homey and lived in. She’s talking about designer high heels while most of us are happy with our sneakers or slip-on flats. Pick your style. Be happy. Do you.
And I love my mugs. Don’t get the matching white tumblers. Not all advice is for everyone I guess.
I love this comment jelkhorn, I know right..... it's like take a tip or don't, it's not a debate..lol. Some people just don't get it.
And I love the cup holders in my sofa😊
I think she offers lots of usefull key takeaways. Replace „luxury“ by „matching“ and look more on the concept behind it rather than the specific advice.
I agree with this. My living room looked like a picture in a magazine. So many compliments. The furniture was high end but uncomfortable after an hour or so. After several years I realized we needed to change it. The furniture we had held up very well and showed little wear and tear. But I was determined. A local store was going out of business so we
went " just to look" (😉).
We bought a large sectional . It's been a year and has endured much use but still looks new. We miss the pretty room but this suits our family much better.
It doesn't matter what a designer says it's what you love in your own home 🏡 ❤
Missing the point. The point is about harmony.
@@andreasdebeskruse9390not at all about harmony! nice try though 👍🏻
True...because you pay the cost to be the boss in your own home so it's all about what you want.
True! And it’s much easier to design “well” now than it was before social media. Everyone just copies Pinterest now :(
@@sirena11
It is for some of us...
Nice try tho
I have to agree that "less is more". Too much clutter detracts from your space and does make you feel overwhelmed. Cleaning out closets and shelves on a regular basis is a must around any house! I also admit that I no longer strive to achieve a designer look --the goal is to create warm, clean & tidy so that we & any guests may feel at ease & welcome in our home. Enjoy your videos and ideas to create interesting and beautiful areas in your home.
I agree with most, but I love to have what I picked out in my travels and I want it to be on a display area for ME to enjoy. I bought it because I loved it. I won't hide it because my house is lived in and comfortable to look at and enjoy. This is just ME. Thanks for your ideas.
You might try quartering the items and cycling them throughout the year. I have a lot of stuff I love but even the best things can lose luster if they’re up all year round or if things are crowded. You may find you can honor the items even more when you purposefully redesign your home with them for a season each year.
Love my grommet curtains because I'm sliding them open and closed many times daily. I also love them because when i moved from one house i was able to reuse them in my next house.
Lots of things are comfortable and practical but not necessarily high end or luxurious.
I have those hidden curtain hooks and they will come off if you pull too hard. It's a pain to climb up there and reattach them. Grommet curtains are sturdier if you have small children.
Yes turned off when she said that.. her style not for me.. to each their own. 😊
Me too.❤
Neither place looks "luxurious"! Do you understand the definition of the word? Not a fan.
Until you pointed out the curtains and showed examples side by side I never realized how much of a difference hanging curtains without grommets makes. Thank you!!
Also known as "drapes"
Me too!! I couldn’t quite pinpoint why my curtains looked different compared to the ones in the magazines .. but now it all makes sense. Lol
Its true!
Someone with an open mind! Bravo
How could anyone not see the difference. It’s huge. And short curtains are so hideous. Take some time to decorate your home and it will make you happier
Gonna have to disagree on you regarding curtains with grommets! I find them much easier to slide along the rod.
Yes but they kinda look like shower curtains with them 🥲
You could achieve that function with curtain rings.
I see the appeal, or have before, but now they just seem like they’re for a dorm or first apartment. Just my opinion. 😊
They're easier, but cheaper looking.
AGREE!! No grommets is total BS!
I reno houses so I am constantly reviewing homes for sale online. It’s amazing how much junk people collect and how cluttered most people’s homes are that you see in the photos. Most of that stuff looks like overspending habits and not there because of a lack of space. The clutter deters from the sale. If you’re interested in selling, box that stuff up and remove it. Just a few of the tips offered in this video will increase the speed of sale and/or the sale price. We are a society of collectors, and that’s not necessarily a good thing.
Very true. I’m about to list my house and I can’t believe all the junk I collected for the years as I’m cleaning everything out
Disagree on the coffee mugs!!! We have a lot of out of town company and i never use my all white mugs because its too confusing. When the mugs are different we can keep track of our drinks and occasionally when I'm gifted a mug i will look in my "collection " and decide what to donate. Otherwise i think all your tips are great!
Agree I have a collection of shaped mugs only but my other dishes do match .. they’re all pink including clear glasses
@@johnnyboii47 yes same with me!!!
Matching cups and bowls give the impression of a hotel breakfast buffet. I prefer cups which show a little personality, like that Irish sheep.
Her look is very generic.
@@jasonbabyfaceyes, generic, sterile & boring
I’ve slept in a double bed with a king size blanket and it was NOT comfortable. It was too much blanket and pulled down on my body all night because it was too much weight on me and dragged on the floor a lot. I think a double bed should have a queen size blanket at the most. Just a voice of experience! I liked some of the other tips for sure.
I don't have to do this to know its true, a better solution to a king bed is separate single duvets as the Europeans do
Agree. Only go up one size.
I think she just mis-spoke and meant to say size up by one.. She did leave out the queen size~
I think you are suppose to upsize one
But she said only to size up once…. I would have felt the same way with a king on a double 😅😮
We have grommet curtains in our dining area. We specifically chose grommet as opposed to custom because we wanted the space to feel more contemporary and not too formal. The grommet option tended to do that for us, whereas the custom option would have been a tad too elevated - at least that was our thought process.
Exactly certain styles can work really well with grommet curtains
Great choice. Styles, whatever type they may be, need to reflect the lives and personalities of the owners or guest.
I agree... I specifically steered away from the pinch pleat look. I had custom drapes made WITH grommets and they're beautiful!
Grommets give a slight industrial look and go with metal leg tables.
Yes, grommets CAN work well with certain decor & personal preferences. Disagree with this sweeping, generalized assessment.
I've started using my king comforters on my queen size bed. It drapes better, covers the bed frame, and gives me plenty of room when the dogs sleep on the bed. Also, it keeps fur off the bed, which was a problem with the original queen size.
How does it keep fur off the bed? I’m intrigued.
@@brendatomlinson i should say it keeps fur off the sheets, or maybe 'out' of the bed. Since it completely covers the sheets and drapes over the sides, I don't have to deal with the dogs ever leaving fur on the sheets. I can go a week or two without washing them. With the smaller comforter, it folds over and they get fur everywhere.
@@klamaire Smart
I wish I had seen this before I just bought a new duvet!
How do you wash these huge duvets tho???
I've been buying bigger size duvets for years for the extra fit. I like that it makes everything look more size appropriate and not shorten to size.
I am with you on the "No TV in the corner", however I'm not a fan of TVs mounted on the fireplace. I would much prefer a nice piece of art, or a mirror. Plus I love to decorate a mantel. We have our TV in a very nice entertainment center in the family room, and on the wall opposite our bed (above a TV credenza) in the bedroom. My husband has a small TV in the corner adjacent to his bar, and that case specifically, I think it looks okay.
Yes…it is hard if you have a rectangle family room with a fireplace and an opening to a formal LR. We have our tv in the corner on a tv stand. TV over the fireplace is too close and don’t love it there. There are situations where you don’t have a choice.
I too don’t like TVs above fireplaces - it just seems tacky. Making the television the focal point of a room gives the impression that this is what you value in life.
They’ve now come out with televisions that display art when not in use - and they’re quite attractive when paired with a wide frame. It seems the perfect solution to the television conundrum.
Some of us have little choice where to put the TV due to where the cable outlet is. If I put it on a wall (vs on a credenza in the corner) people will have to turn their heads to watch it. Not very comfortable.
@@A2D4 You can have the cable company come and relocate the outlet. I don't let the cable company dictate how I decorate my home.
Good advice , so happy without a TV tidy wardrobes. Is a no brainer
You have some good ideas… I just hope that those who have some of the items in their homes and think they look good don’t feel their homes are not inviting or comfortable
When my sister’s 4 girls were growing up she had a hard time keeping everything neat all the time. She’d apologize about it when I’d visit but I’d say I’ve come to see you not your house. Now they’re all grown and moved out, looking back I remember the great times we had but I don’t remember what the house looked like.
I like curtains with grommets because I can open and close them without a cord or wand, but I understand they dont look lux or high-end. Thanks for the tips!
They look a lot more lux than curtains bunched together at the top!
I had to figure out how to use the rings and hiddenclips (bc if you do not use them right, the curtains come off if you pull to hard at closing them) but after all my new very heavy curtains came down a few times i found out how to do it (lone fox video helped me :) and really it looks so much better now
Wao! I love curtains with those metal holes! 2:02
A person should do what makes them happy. Good tips if someone wants that high end look, otherwise, does it really make a difference what others think?
Yes, it does.
i think the point of this video is that we can enjoy lux w/o spending too much. i didn't hear her say anything about comparing to others.
@@jmsl_910 She is the other! LOL.
It’s about feeling comfort in your home. Makes a difference when you come home from a long day at work 😊
@@stevenester3374😂😂😂
Regarding having too much on display, I've solved that issue by having an Ikea Kallax shelving unit in my basement that I use for storing decorative items, throw pillows, etc. that I'm not currently displaying. I tend to change things out when the seasons change, and the shelving unit brightens up the basement.
Awesome idea! I am going to steal it if you are ok with that 😊
Curtains with grommets work great when staging. I’ve used them for my clients and every time the seller ask for the curtains.
nice!
Maybe so, but you'd get a better offer with better curtains. 😁
@@Toni_SnarkBS!!! Stop it...
@@Toni_Snark That client had 16 offers over a weekend and sold for $60k over list. The curtains with grommets didn’t hurt the sale.😂 I’ve been a designer for over 25 years. Do what works for you.
@@cpowell6070it’s not that serious lol
I totally agree with the Grommet curtain topic, and the sofa’s cup holder. I stay away from them.
When I started watching, I thought it would be one of this videos on how to make your home look grey and depersonalized, and I was happily surprised! Loved your contents. I am personally drawn to Bohemian style- which has many nuances- and I could see adding some of your suggestions. Thank you for the video.
This video is really a game-changer. The insights into common design mistakes and how to avoid them have already inspired me to make some simple yet effective changes in my own home. A must-watch for anyone aiming to elevate their interior decor on a budget!
The video's breakdown of interior design mistakes is incredibly helpful - from mismatched colors to neglecting lighting, it pointed out issues I never thought about. I'm already implementing some of the suggestions, and my home looks more put together and stylish.
I really have to disagree with the grommet curtains tip. I feel they are more custom because curtain rods are pricey people tend to avoid them. Im the only one who has grommet curtain in my family and friend group. It looks really high end if done properly. Love all the tips❤
Yes it also depends on the fabric
I agree that Grommets are okay to use. I hired an interior decorator & she used curtains with Grommets in my family room & they look really nice.
@@Prieze868 It does, but that pertains to any style curtain.
@@Prieze868 Yes, and how much fabric there is. Grommet-style curtains tend to have big waves and less of them, so they tend to look sparse...like if you pulled them closed, there wouldn't be enough fabric to cover the window...or they would be stretched out flat so it would look like you hung a sheet over the window lol.
That's the ones I've seen in people's homes. More of a decoration than an actual functional curtain.
I think if they're done right--with plenty of fabric, they can look lovely, but your average person doesn't seem to do that.
I agree. Grommets with the right curtain rod adds interest. It took me a long time to try them. Once I did I love them. I do tend to buy more than needed because I love the fullness of any curtain.
Sorry I buy curtains all the time with grommets. And I get compliments. What’s the difference using a grommet or the hooks with those rings on them. Just my opinion and it’s actually the first time I have disagreed with your suggestion but still respect them and love your style.
They can look like shower curtains.
I bought the exact same glass mugs and notice that my coffee looked as if it was exploding like a volcano, The glass inside the bottom broke so I no longer use these double wall glasses I threw all of them away thank goodness I had realized that before I took a drink of my coffee and swallowed glass , what a shame because these glasses are so beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
This is like the comment that should be pinned! Good heavens, you avoided a major accident, potentially death.
@@brendatomlinson yes indeed !
good sturdy pieces shouldn’t do that .. I’ve used glass for for 14+ years and this has never happened with hot liquid
I really appreciated how this video breaks down each design mistake with clarity, offering viewers valuable insights into creating a more polished and sophisticated living space. The before-and-after examples drive home the impact of avoiding these pitfalls.
I disagree with you about the curtains.I love these curtain with the silver rings in them.match dishes is a great idea.My next chair setting will be cup holders.
Omg, why does it seem like we've reached a place in society where no one can give advise, instruction, critique, or correction with out a bunch of push back? It so annoying! Like everything isnt a personal attack! Thats the problem with this society today, ppl are so full of themselves, no body can just receive instructions or advise or correction without all the buts and " dont judge me" over tones.
That's because everyone 's an expert. Whether it's your furniture, food, health, to the gym and carbs etc etc. We are bombarded, it undermines our confidence, so l get it.
@valerieb5718 so true, no body can humble themselves these days and just hear and receive something.
This woman is right on about all of her advice. Most Home makeover/design shows stopped teaching any sort of real life design principals many years ago. Most shows are nothing but reno porn. Ms. McGowan gave more practical design tips in a 12 minute video than a month's worth of programming on the waco network.
I was amazed at how this video pinpointed the subtle design errors that can make a home feel less expensive. The practical advice and examples make it easy to understand and implement these valuable tips. A must-watch for anyone seeking a more polished and high-end home interior.
Great tips! 👌
Thanks. A newly divorced dude here trying who's refurbing an old house. I can do the grunt work but design work... well, that was her rhelm! Thanks for helping this old dog learn a new trick!
I love your content but this one strikes me as creating a show home. Imo a house is a home, a personal space curated over time. If it’s too uniform (clothes arranged for others to show space) then it can border on soulless.
Yeah I could care less about what people think when I open my kitchen cupboards or pantry. As long as they’re clean and organized that’s all that matters.
Yep. No personality allowed, even in your mugs. "Rich" seems to be interpreted here as hyper matchy curated blandness...
@@starveartisttextbook nouveau riche
Same conclusion I came to - this is how to get homes that look like a corporate lobby or hotel room - pretty and expensive to look at, probably photographs nicely for the gram, but with 0 personal style 😅
@@starveartist yeah the "clear glass mugs only and all-white dishes so the cupboards look good to your guests" part was where things officially went too far into The Land of No Colour that youtube interior designers love so much.
Your kitchen cabinets look great, but I just can't give up my fun mugs. I do have some simple white ones for guests, but I never really use them.
Sorry, I love my grommet bedroom curtains. They open and close nicely and hang perfectly.
💯
Try a shower curtain instead next time
SRSLY? Just put down few thousand on custom curtains with a designer and they have grommets! 🥴🥴
@@janebreaux3530I did too with custom made side panels and they look beautiful 😊
I hired an interior decorator and she used curtains with Grommets in my family room & I think they look really nice. Sorry , i disagree with that tip.
I totally disagree with her too. I worked for a famous NYC interior designer and I have seen her use grommet drapes with her high end clients too.
Hooks on curtains look dated. I love the grommets and so easy to put up.
Mev too i disagree i have them in my living room they look amazing
I am a full qualified Interior Decorator and I use grommet curtains occasionally too. It depends on the style.
I too disagree. Hooks are outdated and difficult to manipulate. I have gromates in bedrooms..and they look great.
In the drawing room of course I have expensive rollers with magnets.
Gromates are fine though.
I actually like the grommet curtains. They are easy to open and close. And I like the way they look.
They’re great for a casual environment, but definitely not lux!!
I like them too!
I think she has a point, about the my grommet curtains, but I agree with you. I am keeping them.
I always buy grommet curtains and pretty much disagree with this video on that point. I like a curtain that can quickly and easily be closed.
@@brianh9358 Yeah I like that about them too. I am wondering if something similar to open and close.
People who need to be told not to buy furniture with cupholders...may not be your audience.
🤣 you never know!
Its not personal,I am pretty sure.🙄
Lol 😂
Hahaha
Many people have large home theaters like me who have a lot of theater recliners w cup holders but if someone chooses to have one in their living room so be it lol
There are a lot of good ideas here even for those of us who might enjoy a more "cluttered" and "cozy" feel. 😊
Great video, Kristen. I have organized my dishes to be matchy and look nice through glass cabinet doors. However, I have a collection of four unmatched mugs proudly displayed on a tray on my kitchen counter as an homage to thrift stores (and I use them daily). It represents a transitional time in my life that I am happy to share if asked. Don’t be afraid to be creative with mismatched items that are meaningful to you. And you can probably guess that I like those pesky grommet curtains.😊
I agree. I have a few very special mugs I would never give up even though they don’t perfectly match.
I agree. I would rather have mugs gifted by friends or purchased during travel or something with university logo than just plain glass ones. It seems more meaningful to me.
OMG - I like those pesky grommet curtains too! 😂
So glad you posted this. Mugs are the one item I collect so I actually have a large collection that i do not wish to part with. Love the idea of intentionally displaying some of my favorites. I do have a matching plate and bowl set and wll probably invest in matching mugs for that, but I definitely plan to hold on to my special non matchy mugs because they make me happy and hold lots of memories.
I like my mismatched mugs as well.
Thank you Kristen for the tips...... king size duvet on a queen size bed and I decluttered my bedroom and walls..... I also cleared out my closet and you gave me a lot of inspiration to do that! Thank you so much everything looks better!❤
I think not having a tv in the corner of a room might be difficult for a lot of UK homes! 😁 I don't do any of the other stuff & it's good to reiterate the need for having different tones of a colour, or palette - much more pleasing than one colour repeated as an accent x
I agree with you I'm from Ireland and was thinking the very same about the tv. 85% of people have the tv in the corner because of space etc.
Great ideas; I especially agree with not just using one, bold color in decorating. I have always decorated over the years with color, often very strong colors like hunter green, burgundy, and plum. You are right on target when you noted it was best to work in lighter shades of those strong colors, or using other complementary colors. That creates an attractive flow and balance. Just using one, bold color as an accent and nothing else is too harsh; it lacks sophistication. 😂
I've always found the ”no tv" thing an interesting turn in the design world. Most people have a TV in their space. It's not that off putting. Its literally expected lol
Mounting a TV seems actually more limiting to me.
@@reneeburich9497haven’t finished watching this but I’m having to put my tv on the wall but I’m definitely keeping my stand for cute underneath decor.. I’m moving the tv for my small child but I’m sure she’ll wreck my decor.. it’s lose lose at this point
I keep my TV hidden I like the look of no TV plus I don't watch a lot of TV anyways
I have a tv in my living room and i haven't watched tv in over 10 years, at least. I think i can do without it now. lol
I have a 77 inches TV and I use it everyday for movies and videogames.
It is also followed by a soundbar with a subwoofer and two rear speakers.
Cannot even begin to imagine how I would “hide it” from sight.
😮I didn’t know furnitures with cup holders existed. Now you are giving me ideas I shouldn’t be having 😄

Great vlog Kristen. We call Grommet curtains eyelet curtains in the UK. The eyelet and pole metals should at least match! My dinnerware is all white and I love how it looks when I open the drawer.
It’s getting harder to buy curtains which are not eyelet in the Uk now. There are now curtain hooks which you can hang other styles over the pole in the same way, which is a game changer.🥰
I've watched this video and it was eye-opening! The tips on avoiding common design mistakes are so practical, and I immediately identified a few things in my home to fix. The host's friendly explanations make interior design feel approachable for anyone.
I love your videos, and always agree with your tips, however, I have to draw the line at the TV placement advice. Projectors and easels are in my opinion not only impractical and hard to achieve for most people, but they just don’t look that great. I think there are more stylish solutions for use as TV stands, such as using antique stands or small carved shelves.
Unfortunately I have curtains with grommets and I really like them. Since I moved across the ocean I am using what I had purchased awhile ago. I have Pier 1 curtains I purchased on clearance that fits my decor. I also have blackout curtains but I added patterned sheers behind them. I do like the idea of pedestals and will incorporate later on in the living room.
My curtains are grommet and I love the look and ease of use
I love your way of sharing your advice- Well explained with pictures and not rambling half the video away. You are showing very practical ways of making a home look better without spending much. Thank you very much. I am a pensioner and follow advice like this, and everyone loves my flat and wonder why it looks so homely and expensive. This is great advice, people. Hats off.
My quick fix for the curtains with grommets is to hang them upside down, so the curtain rod goes through it. It looks much better already. I still need to trim off the grommets and re-hem them, but for now the grommets are acting as weights, and helping them hang very nicely. Eventually I need to replace them because they are not hung high enough, but thanks for the suggestion!
I do the same thing. I only buy grommet curtains for the yardage to remake them without the grommets.
I love to get helpful design tips and choose a design that fits my style and comfort. I think that’s the most important thing.
2:42. I LOVE the cantaloupe walls with soft emerald green furnishings.
Thank you Kristen! My daughters have asked me to de-clutter, open up my space, pass on and donate what I do not use. I enjoyed your video and it hit home. I look forward to more inspiring design tips.
I just see the majority of these interiors have the exact same decorating style, same finishes everywhere. I haven't seen a RUclipsr's home yet that's really individual. I love the choices I've made in my home, I think its pretty pretentious when Im told of all the mistakes I've made.
Then don't watch.
It’s truly amazing how chic everything looks without too much stuff and clutter and the peace you gain. I’ve recently downsized to 1/4 of space and Im older, I will not integrate my previous items and will not save for my children to dispose of. I follow Kristen and love the upgraded look of my new space. Thanks Kristen, you are a dream and blessing to watch.
In YOUR home, the only mistake you make, is not putting in the items that YOU want. Your house should be what you want it to be, not a certain style someone else thinks it should be. If you prefer shorter curtains, put them in. You are the one who needs to be happy with your choices. It might be ugly as all get-out to others. But, if you love it, THAT'S what matters! It's only when you try to please others and NOT yourself, that a mistake happens!
Totally agree 👍🏽
This video is truly revolutionary. The insights into common design blunders and how to avoid them have already encouraged me to make some basic yet effective modifications in my own home. A must-watch for anyone wanting to upgrade their interior decor on a budget!
If you have a budget and you absolutely love your grommet curtains, A valence can hide the tops.
Yes, I love this!
That's right. No wonder, yes we do have valence and Grommet curtains. Love Grommet for its ease.
I’m not a fan of recliners or cup holders but when I purchased my steel blue leather recline sofa with matching loveseat (that has cup holders), I feel in love. It’s the most used piece of furniture in my home and it’s functional and looks great.
I feel personally attacked about my grommet curtains :-P
I’ve got them too! Don’t stress it’s personal taste - if you’re happy that’s all that counts.
🤣🤣🤣 me too.
I like my grommets…oh well I still like my skinny jeans
I def. Agree no grommets. She’s talking looking elegant design. If that’s not your vibe-no worries. Transfer to garage window :)
get out of denial they are super tacky
I found this video so useful! currently simplifying, yet making my rental more elegant with less clutter. I especially appreciated the part about using different tones of one colour to unify the space, as it has been my challenge. Thank you 🙏🏻
TVs over fireplaces are always too high.
Yes , I agree! I never think they look pretty. Might be convenient but takes away from a beautiful fireplace!
I agree. That’s why they make the mounts that tilt which is what I have. I’m thinking about building a whole recessed area to mount the tv into though
I like the suggestion of sizing up on the bedding.
I agree with the grommets... I don't like them lol. And it seems they are all that way in stores. I've started buying extra panels and cutting them off and adding rod pockets with the extra panels..
Wow this video is a concise and informative guide that addresses common pitfalls in home decor, offering valuable insights to elevate interior design. The presenter's keen observations and practical tips make the video not only eye-opening but also actionable for viewers looking to enhance the aesthetics of their living spaces. I am wondering what did you do with your old mugs?
I’d take a corner tv over having it over the fireplace
Never heard them called grommets - in the UK they're called eyelets. Not a favourite of mine because I feel they let in too much light in bedrooms but there's more choice for readymade curtains in this style.
I've been purchasing Dowan products for years and have several of their bowls. My favorite is the ribbed bowls (2/pk) but i don't think i've purchased anything from them that i don't love. Their white dishes are all consistent in color and are neutral. There's no OBVIOUS blue, yellow, or gray undertones...more like a creamy white. Think BM Simply White which has a very very slight undertone of yellow but reads white. Hope this description helps.
Hello, do you have a link for the sectional? Thanks.
Don’t throw away your other mugs. The glass one break easily.
I was wondering if that’s why she bought so many. 😂
Vintage glass mugs are more durable. I had a new glass mug and it broke within months. I dislike our throw away culture and try to thrift shop for items with more personal style than I could find on an endcap.
@@kylieames2774 my daughter does that. Just throws stuff out, even if she hasn’t used it. Don’t get that. She was trying to give me a marble tray and when I said sit a candle on top or something. She said, I’ll keep it. lol
What fantastic options, I especially love your final comment about personal style. My favorite way to integrate personal style, and to help create that more cohesive color scheme, is using fine art! It's amazing what you can find at almost every budget that will speak to your individual tastes, AND create an elevated environment.
I love curtains with grommets
I really liked your suggestions for making changes to the window curtains, the kitchen cabinets, and the display of items!! You are really a "fresh of breath of fresh air for this "elderly" lady😍 Thanks for sharing
I hung curtains with grommets in 2014, and they looked nice for that point in time. Now I have no curtains/drapes in any of my windows. My bedrooms and bathrooms have Hunter Douglas pleated shades. My windows are trimmed in very nice millwork framing, so it looks complete.
custom made 'grommet' looks far better than pleat tucks. Maybe just in the UK?
hi Kristen
I feel the same way.
Me too
I semi- agree with the matching cups/plates for a seemless look. But, I wouldn't say they ALL have to match. Ex: all white. I think that's nice, and I agree having a bunch of miss matched pieces is not great..but, I like the idea of having one or two styles that go together, rather than just one. I feel it gives both the look of being put together, but not boring.
My interior designer installed those curtains from your first tip of “not” to use tho. It looks nice and luxurious depends on how you install it.
I fail on just about every point. I don’t know how I can continue to show my face in polite society. 🙄
It’s ok just do what you love!
LOL! You are so funny!
You are the BEST!!!!
ikr 😅
You are hilarious! 😂
Love all ideas! Only one problem my husband had some really ugly coffee cups he would never let them go lol ! Keep giving us ideas although we all can’t apply them to our homes , but some will!
The idea of the king sized duvet that hangs over the edge of the bed is a great idea. That's my favorite part of staying at a fancy resort.. the big, comfy beds! I love a mounted tv over a beautiful fireplace mantle.. they even have tvs now that look like mirrors until you turn them on. I rarely use the tv, but when I do I set a YT scenescape/wallpaper for ambiance/art. Another way to class up your bathroom is to use 2 long curtains on your shower.. gives it that luxurious spa vibe. And fresh plants vs faux makes a big difference imo.
Curtains adorned with elegant grommets prove to be a masterful touch, infusing a sense of sophistication and refinement into any staging endeavor. The interplay of functionality and aesthetics elevates the ambiance, gracefully draping the surroundings with timeless allure, making it an enchanting sight that captivates every eye that beholds its charm! ❤
YAY, you just elevated grommets!
Hi Kristen, another great video. I’ve watched all of them, I’m addicted 😂 I’ve always wondered… do you leave the guest bed made up or only make it up when guests stay? It looks nice being made up all the time but then do the sheets lose their freshness? I don’t actually have a guest room so haven’t been able to test it out.
Mine is always made but you do have a point to this and am making me question my decision hahah but I love the way it pulls the room together so I’d rather have it made all the time!
I use a giant blanket that matches the room and cover the whole bed. I removed before my guests arrive.
I search out grommet curtains. They are contemporary and pretty. They slide easily and hang well.
Pleated curtains are too old fashion looking for my taste. They remind me of some thing my mother or grandmother would hang. I avoid them like the plague.
To each his own, however. That’s the joy of having your own space. :-)
Thank you Kirsten, so glad colour & textures & a bit of pattern are back. The grey white theme has never been my thing. Need to clear the bedroom closet!
Aww all my curtains are grommet curtains lol 🤣🙈 but I like them and they look nice to me but now I’m curious how my spaces will look if I change them up.
Me too😂
I really like grommets, they pull over easily and look modern.
