If you're looking for ways to update your dated home without doing a full remodel, I hope this gives you some DIY ideas that will make a huge impact for less!! What would you love to update in your home??
Thank you. I just ordered the white shower curtain. I knew my bathroom needed something, so glad you had this idea!!! I went with the 96 inch all the way to the ceiling one!!!
It's not a good idea to paint the brick outside one's home. It prevents it from 'breathing' and shortens its life. Staining them is a better choice. Also, you said to paint the mullions on your windows. You may have meant 'muntins'. Mullions are vertical shafts located in between windows. These elements offer structural support for the windows. Meanwhile, muntins are found on the window glass itself. They are vertical and horizontal elements that divide a window's glass into a grid.
I have a small, dated kicthen with upper cabinets and not much storage. I painted the top cabinets ivory which helped it blend into the walls and the lower cabinets sage green. Game changer
I really like these ideas! WOW! I think the easiest for me would be swapping out my light fixtures and light switch panels as well as the outlets. Thank you for sharing!
My husband and I bought our house a year and a half ago and we have been trying to find a way to make it our own. Watching your videos are a HUGE motivation for me! I am now ready to go and see what I can do with my home. Thank you!!
I'm always on the lookout for cost-effective home improvement ideas and this video delivered. The down-to-earth approach and creative suggestions really made a huge impact.
I was amazed at how these videos showcased creative and cost-effective solutions to breathe new life into an old home. From DIY projects to simple decor changes, these ideas have inspired me to tackle my own home improvement projects with confidence.
I added lights to my shower ceiling and they were not expensive and it made such a big difference and it didn’t cost that much, check with an electrician, bright and happy now.
I love a house with ALL the rooms: Formal Living and dining, a study, and a combo family room/kitchen, plus a sunroom. I use them on the daily. I also love cream painted cased widows and doorways. My dream house has a staircase similar to your parents' home. I love hardwood floors, built ins and bay windows. I think it goes back to my twenties, when I was a realtor in Boston's Back Bay and Beacon Hill neighborhoods.
We had our old white PVC windows sprayed black. I wish I could upload a picture. It really made a massive difference and the exterior of the house looks so much more modern. Love black windows! It was surprisingly more affordable than we thought it would be and waaay less than getting new ones! It’s guaranteed for 10 years too. Would highly recommend.
So many great idea. I'm in the process of upgrading out 25 year old home and it's great to see so many inexpensive ideas to offset the more costly renos we are looking at.
We did practically all of these in our 1970s house we had. All of your advice is sound especially fixture updates and removing the upper cabinets...that absolutely opened our small kitchen space up. It instantly felt so much larger. And the bathroom curtain rod being up high made a huge difference in our current home. Brings the eyes up.
@@kathygreer2097 We had a pocket door pantry in the kitchen (in addition to an accordian door pantry) where I added a storage shelf to hold those items including our trash and recycle bin. I moved my spices to a drawer as well. I did some mental rearranging prior and utilized the space better that we already had. I hope that helps.
I discovered your channel about 2 years ago & totally love the cozy vibes of it 🥹 You’re such a kind, honest and outgoing person! Your videos are a breath of fresh air!
Hi Kristen! Met ya tonight at the Tarantula Hill as we were all leaving. You're a genuine sweetheart and deserve all of your success. Keep up the good hard work. God bless.
What a fabulous video! I am going to steal your idea. The new masking liquid in order to paint my huge 80s kitchen windows black. And updating old lighting fixtures in the bathroom! Thank you 😊
Thank you for more great tips, Kristen. I have learned so much after finding your channel, and it was at the perfect time as we have been building our dream home. You have inspired me and given me so much information and it has made this whole process so much easier, and it's coming together so beautifully. Only a couple more months and we'll finally be living in it and I am just so excited to decorate with all that I've learned from you. Appreciate all of the content and your time into it, it is so incredibly helpful! Have a blessed day!
It’s amazing how something as simple as making shower curtains fall from the roof completely changes the energy of the bathroom. I also loved those front room offices! Great video because the examples were excellent 👌
Thank you for these amazing tips! Would you please recommend a paint for the window trim (metal). I would love to paint my metal window frames that gorgeous black. Spray paint is out of the question. Thanks so much.
Really beautiful spaces. I'll start with ceiling, wall, and trim paint, faucets, light fixtures (all DIY)....but it is still an early 2000s builder tract home. Hard to overcome that without $$$
When we did our kitchen 5 years ago, we got rid of our upper kitchen cabinets and put in shelving. It looks great! We only replaced 2 of the upper cabinets over by the window and cooker. Glad we were ahead of the game 😂😂
Loved this..we have an apartment with older granite counter tops 😌..all of the other fixtures and cabinets are pretty modern but the countertops really date the place helppp!!
I love a ceiling fan but want something more modern. I have four rooms with them 3 beds and living room. Any idea for a way to use the fan but have a nice light
Hi there, your videos are full of great info, so handy and practical advice….just wanna say though these ideas dont really work unless u do the whole hog. For example changing light fittings isn’t going to look great if you still have an ugly outdated kitchen. Sprucing up your staircase isn’t gonna transform your home if the walls have ugly paint color and furniture and light fittings are horrid and need redoing too…sort of gotta do everything cos if you do one thing it can often look like popping on eye makeup and faux lashes and having gorgeous eyes but omitting lipstick foundation and walking out the house in tracksuit pants with glamorous eyes….
Great video! I absolutely love your content in your videos and your design choices! Your videos are always chock full of great inspiration and information.
I'm moving into a home built in the early 2000s. What can I do to the narrow fake oak woodwork and trim? I've thought of replacing it but I'm a modern traditional person and this home is really builder grade.
OK, so I really really like your idea and suggestion of making your living room possibly your office decorating it or making it the room that you need. I’m basically a single almost 60-year-old woman that lives in a house by herself and sometimes I feel like the living room is too much I don’t need it, so the suggestion that you made and showing some of the pictures I’m thinking wow that’s what I should do is I should flip-flop the small bedroom that I was going to make into an office into my living room with being able to leave a lot of my decor in the living room just moving my couch out of it in the TV out of it into my bedroom. Space, lol I really really like that idea! Thanks, Kristen
What isa flush mount alternative to the long ceiling fluorescent light. Need ideas. Can’t be pendant - ceiling is too short. Using eyeball lights is not great.
Hi Kristen, my kitchen cabinets have original wood finish. I wanted to paint them with black, but how do I treat the inside color, keep as it or paint all black, that means a lot of work, and a little bit overwhelming. Please advise 🙏
She's talking about homes with a formal living room in the front of the house AND a family room in the back. It's known as the room no one hangs out in because it is the nice room with the nice furniture that can't be ruined. You keep your day guests in there cuz it's the only constantly clean room in the house. It dates your house because people don't entertain that way anymore. We have our guests see our mess when we cook in the open to every room kitchen and the kids' toys everywhere in the family room because the hosts want to feel included in the party 😂 If you don't have both, this tip is not for you.
Thank You for not making me feel absolutely nuts..I literally have your entire video in my to do list , and have already done 5 of them 😂😂because I’ve been trying to save on my Reno ❤
Hi Kristen! I'm a new follower and have loved your videos! They have a very professional feel. I've started making home decor videos 🙈 and was wondering what lapel mic you use? Also is it the same one you use for voice overs? Thanks so much! -Ashlee
I aspired to become a lifestyle expert, but crowds who gathered to hear my great ideas for making decorative accessories from leftover pasta noodles looked at each other, laughed, shook their heads and walked away….
A friend of ours was moving and gave us his entire living room set, rug included. He has good, clean taste, so we got lucky. Cream white everything. Large rug, matching tables. It was amazing! It was so unexpected. But if you want something new, keep an open mind and be open to good stuff coming to you from unexpected sources. You don’t always need to buy brand new things if what you currently have doesn’t suit you. Just be clear about what you want, keep putting it out there and when the opportunity comes - jump on it!
It is common in some kitchen nowadays to not have an upper cabinets, I think it looks classic, modern and clean. Great tips Kristen, your channel is amazing.
I think that people will end up regretting storage. Small spaces in particular. Painting out with melamine white paint preferable if you can’t afford to update the space.
Vinyl also works really well and is really affordable. Just takes a bit of time and patience. We had dated kitchen cupboards but liked the layout and the cupboards were /are in good condition. I just took inspiration from pictures of modern kitchens and went from there. There’s so many lovely colours to choose from now as well. I’d definitely do it again!
Inspiring! I work from home ever since the pandemic so my work stuff and my home stuff are all together in my home offices, which has not been great. I’m going to use my dining room for my non work, home needs. It’ll be two home office spaces but mentally it’s better for me to have that division. I’m lucky to have a large home, now we’re empty nesters so I may as well use the space more efficiently for myself. Thanks for your advice
If you're looking for ways to update your dated home without doing a full remodel, I hope this gives you some DIY ideas that will make a huge impact for less!! What would you love to update in your home??
I would love to update my bedroom!
My staircase has carpet and that orange looking wood stain. I definitely plan to get to that.
Thank you. I just ordered the white shower curtain. I knew my bathroom needed something, so glad you had this idea!!! I went with the 96 inch all the way to the ceiling one!!!
Kristen, I just thought of something while watching you show moveable kitchen islands. It would make a great craft island for my craft room 😊

Two of my favorite çolour along with blue
We have a small kitchen and we added glass to our upper cabinets. Makes it look so much bigger!
I loooove built-ins!! They’re one of my favorite permanent design features

I love how these tips prove that you don't need a massive remodel to transform your home. Budget-friendly updates can make a huge difference.
but every after picture she showed is a completely renovated room. kind of defeat the purpose
Ceiling mounted shower rod with two shower curtains?!? Brilliant!
I'm always on the lookout for cost-effective home improvement ideas and this video delivered. The down-to-earth approach and creative suggestions really made a huge impact.
If you don't have a light source inside your shower, raising the curtain to the ceiling will make it quite dark in there.
Mmmmm…never thought of that. Thanks.
I have an older bathroom, so I added some ceiling lights in the shower and it’s a huge difference🌟Check with an electrician.
Use a clear liner with white curtains
If you have a sheer shower curtain it will work 👍🏼
It would also cut off fresh air, so, if you should blow a big fart, you might not survive your own noxious gases!

Nonsense based on wishful thinking.
What did you do with all the stuff that was in the uppers?

Love the idea of repurposing kitchen cabinets to the garage!
I love the idea of painting the windows black.
Staircase runners are good ideas for my home. Thank you!!

Hi. Can I get info on the wall paintings/art shown? ( in the home offices)
Is it practical to paint old aluminum sliding door frames and windows?
Great points to consider! 👍
I agree to remove those upper cabinets that are a visual block but not the wall mounted ones.. impractical.
….a glass door on some upper cabinets and painting them the colour of the wall is a good idea tho’…☺️
What do you recommend on using to paint the windows. I can't find anything that works.
