If you're looking for ways to update your dated home without doing a full remodel, I hope this gives you some DIY ideas that will make a huge impact for less!! What would you love to update in your home??
I would love to update my bedroom!
My staircase has carpet and that orange looking wood stain. I definitely plan to get to that.
Thank you. I just ordered the white shower curtain. I knew my bathroom needed something, so glad you had this idea!!! I went with the 96 inch all the way to the ceiling one!!!
Kristen, I just thought of something while watching you show moveable kitchen islands. It would make a great craft island for my craft room 😊
It's not a good idea to paint the brick outside one's home. It prevents it from 'breathing' and shortens its life. Staining them is a better choice.
Also, you said to paint the mullions on your windows. You may have meant 'muntins'.
Mullions are vertical shafts located in between windows. These elements offer structural support for the windows. Meanwhile, muntins are found on the window glass itself. They are vertical and horizontal elements that divide a window's glass into a grid.
I have a small, dated kicthen with upper cabinets and not much storage. I painted the top cabinets ivory which helped it blend into the walls and the lower cabinets sage green. Game changer
Two of my favorite çolour along with blue
We have a small kitchen and we added glass to our upper cabinets. Makes it look so much bigger!
I love how these tips prove that you don't need a massive remodel to transform your home. Budget-friendly updates can make a huge difference.
We had our old white PVC windows sprayed black. I wish I could upload a picture. It really made a massive difference and the exterior of the house looks so much more modern. Love black windows! It was surprisingly more affordable than we thought it would be and waaay less than getting new ones! It’s guaranteed for 10 years too. Would highly recommend.
Ceiling mounted shower rod with two shower curtains?!? Brilliant!
I loooove built-ins!! They’re one of my favorite permanent design features
If you don't have a light source inside your shower, raising the curtain to the ceiling will make it quite dark in there.
Mmmmm…never thought of that. Thanks.
I have an older bathroom, so I added some ceiling lights in the shower and it’s a huge difference🌟Check with an electrician.
Use a clear liner with white curtains
If you have a sheer shower curtain it will work 👍🏼
It would also cut off fresh air, so, if you should blow a big fart, you might not survive your own noxious gases!
I really like these ideas! WOW! I think the easiest for me would be swapping out my light fixtures and light switch panels as well as the outlets. Thank you for sharing!
I added lights to my shower ceiling and they were not expensive and it made such a big difference and it didn’t cost that much, check with an electrician, bright and happy now.
I was amazed at how these videos showcased creative and cost-effective solutions to breathe new life into an old home. From DIY projects to simple decor changes, these ideas have inspired me to tackle my own home improvement projects with confidence.
I love a house with ALL the rooms: Formal Living and dining, a study, and a combo family room/kitchen, plus a sunroom. I use them on the daily. I also love cream painted cased widows and doorways. My dream house has a staircase similar to your parents' home. I love hardwood floors, built ins and bay windows. I think it goes back to my twenties, when I was a realtor in Boston's Back Bay and Beacon Hill neighborhoods.
Me too!!😊👏🏼
Staircase runners are good ideas for my home. Thank you!!
I'm always on the lookout for cost-effective home improvement ideas and this video delivered. The down-to-earth approach and creative suggestions really made a huge impact.
Love the idea of repurposing kitchen cabinets to the garage!
I love the idea of painting the windows black.
So many great idea. I'm in the process of upgrading out 25 year old home and it's great to see so many inexpensive ideas to offset the more costly renos we are looking at.
Thank you for more great tips, Kristen. I have learned so much after finding your channel, and it was at the perfect time as we have been building our dream home. You have inspired me and given me so much information and it has made this whole process so much easier, and it's coming together so beautifully. Only a couple more months and we'll finally be living in it and I am just so excited to decorate with all that I've learned from you. Appreciate all of the content and your time into it, it is so incredibly helpful! Have a blessed day!
I discovered your channel about 2 years ago & totally love the cozy vibes of it 🥹 You’re such a kind, honest and outgoing person! Your videos are a breath of fresh air!
We did practically all of these in our 1970s house we had. All of your advice is sound especially fixture updates and removing the upper cabinets...that absolutely opened our small kitchen space up. It instantly felt so much larger. And the bathroom curtain rod being up high made a huge difference in our current home. Brings the eyes up.
Nonsense based on wishful thinking.
What did you do with all the stuff that was in the uppers?
@@kathygreer2097 We had a pocket door pantry in the kitchen (in addition to an accordian door pantry) where I added a storage shelf to hold those items including our trash and recycle bin. I moved my spices to a drawer as well. I did some mental rearranging prior and utilized the space better that we already had. I hope that helps.
A friend of ours was moving and gave us his entire living room set, rug included. He has good, clean taste, so we got lucky. Cream white everything. Large rug, matching tables. It was amazing!
It was so unexpected. But if you want something new, keep an open mind and be open to good stuff coming to you from unexpected sources. You don’t always need to buy brand new things if what you currently have doesn’t suit you. Just be clear about what you want, keep putting it out there and when the opportunity comes - jump on it!
Such advanced thinking! Waaay beyond typical clueless YT viewers like hers.
OK, so I really really like your idea and suggestion of making your living room possibly your office decorating it or making it the room that you need. I’m basically a single almost 60-year-old woman that lives in a house by herself and sometimes I feel like the living room is too much I don’t need it, so the suggestion that you made and showing some of the pictures I’m thinking wow that’s what I should do is I should flip-flop the small bedroom that I was going to make into an office into my living room with being able to leave a lot of my decor in the living room just moving my couch out of it in the TV out of it into my bedroom. Space, lol I really really like that idea! Thanks, Kristen
Controversial kitchen cabinets 😅
Yes, I LOVE kitchen storage!
Love too but smaller houses do not have an option for a mud room
You always give great ideas when there is a smaller budget. Thanks😊❤
It’s amazing how something as simple as making shower curtains fall from the roof completely changes the energy of the bathroom. I also loved those front room offices! Great video because the examples were excellent 👌
You are fabulous with very educational information. You are a delight! Thank you.
Thank u for all your lovely n sustainable ideas , lots of luv n bestest wishes for u dear Kristen , from Mumbai, India ❤❤
Hi Kristen! Met ya tonight at the Tarantula Hill as we were all leaving. You're a genuine sweetheart and deserve all of your success. Keep up the good hard work. God bless.
Great ideas! Thank you!
I was so happy to learn that the windows could be painted and I will certainly give it a try! thank you for such a cost effective idea!
When we did our kitchen 5 years ago, we got rid of our upper kitchen cabinets and put in shelving. It looks great! We only replaced 2 of the upper cabinets over by the window and cooker. Glad we were ahead of the game 😂😂
I have no desire to have open shelves in my kitchen. I use my upper cabinets, and a closed door keeps things in them cleaner.
And you're telling me this because? @@sharons5714
Hi Kristen. Love your ideas. I love the reading nook the best. ❤
Any tips on upgrading patio door vertical blinds?
Love your videos, Kristen. Can you do more room makeovers?
I agree! I have to do everything myself and everything on a budget. This was a great video with great before and afters.
Can you make this into a series?
I love the idea to paint the windows black
I agree to remove those upper cabinets that are a visual block but not the wall mounted ones.. impractical.
….a glass door on some upper cabinets and painting them the colour of the wall is a good idea tho’…☺️
Great ideas❤Thank you ❤
I love all your decoration tips, and definitely I can use a few of this ❤, thank you 🙏
Kristen you know sooo much about decor n I love your chnl. Love to watch! So many great tips!! Thank you.
You are loaded with brilliant ideas. I really enjoy your videos.
Such great ideas, Kristen! Your videos are so beautiful and fun to watch.
The thing about taking your shower curtain up to the ceiling is you lose light unless there’s one in the shower it’s too dark
What a fabulous video! I am going to steal your idea. The new masking liquid in order to paint my huge 80s kitchen windows black. And updating old lighting fixtures in the bathroom! Thank you 😊
Great tips.
Black windows are a passing fad…like open shelving in a kitchen.
Yes, only few houses can look timeless with black casing, besides it is ruining very nice looking wood
But if you like it, why not?
And PLEASE do not paint over wood window casings.
@@123Rockchild…becos it is a “fad” ?…☺️
Always great ideas from you. Huge fan 😊
Thank you all I can tell you because I have learned so much inches our watching your videos. Thank you so much.
These tips are amazing. Thank you. I never know where to start with my home and you've helped so much!
Great tip…window masking paint had never heard of it!
Thanks, always enjoy your videos.
Handy and generous, Thanks Kristen!
i switched out the dining room 90s chandelier for a ceiling fan here in florida lol
So helpful! Especially the shower curtain hack 🚿 ❤ 🏠
I’m so glad💗
Great video! I absolutely love your content in your videos and your design choices! Your videos are always chock full of great inspiration and information.
I love the idea of the double shower curtains
My husband and I bought our house a year and a half ago and we have been trying to find a way to make it our own. Watching your videos are a HUGE motivation for me! I am now ready to go and see what I can do with my home. Thank you!!
Really beautiful spaces. I'll start with ceiling, wall, and trim paint, faucets, light fixtures (all DIY)....but it is still an early 2000s builder tract home. Hard to overcome that without $$$
Great points to consider! 👍
Thank You for not making me feel absolutely nuts..I literally have your entire video in my to do list , and have already done 5 of them 😂😂because I’ve been trying to save on my Reno ❤
Kristen you are the best
Window seat built ins
Floor to ceiling, install it on the ceiling w a thin track and use a long liner with a long sheer window panel ❤
I love your ideas! These are exaclyt what I need right now! thank you!
I do not like open shelving. I have too many dishes. Plus the items on the open shelves will get dusty. But I love the shower curtain idea.
Smart. Exactly right. She’s clueless. Steals others’ ideas. Loser.
Same
Agree. I am definitely going to look at a new more subtle shower curtain as mine is a loud color with geometric patterns.
Yay! I'm here for it!
Great tips, as always. Thanks so much!
It is common in some kitchen nowadays to not have an upper cabinets, I think it looks classic, modern and clean. Great tips Kristen, your channel is amazing.
But what do you do with all the stuff that was in them?
Kristen another fabulous video with excellent, inexpensive decorating ideas. Thank you!
Happy Sunday Kris✌
Thank you for these amazing tips! Would you please recommend a paint for the window trim (metal). I would love to paint my metal window frames that gorgeous black. Spray paint is out of the question. Thanks so much.
Thank you, Kristen. Very helpful ideas .
Agree with EVERYTHING you said, you’re a great interior designer. Thank you for your advice.😊
Especially remove the upper cabinets over the bar or the peninsula whatever that is
Thank you! What great ideas.
Great ideas! ❤
Great ideas
This video not only provided cost-effective solutions but also inspired me to get started on refreshing my home; it's a must-watch for anyone looking to give their living space a modern touch without the hassle of a full-blown remodel.
I enjoyed very much this video.
Very helpful.
Fantastic vid so helpful and informative Aldo inspiring loved it . Will be using some of them for sure 😍😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Curtain panels with grommets
Make good shower curtains and they are a whole lot cheaper then buying 2 shower curtains
You are amazing!
Thank you, Kristen for the video. Love your suggestions for the bathroom.
I would like to see your makeover on a one bedroom apartment.
Fantastic 😀👍
I'm moving into a home built in the early 2000s. What can I do to the narrow fake oak woodwork and trim? I've thought of replacing it but I'm a modern traditional person and this home is really builder grade.
Hi Kristen, what are your thoughts of a shower curtain vs a shower door for showers?
…interesting!…did u do it?…☺️
❤❤❤thank you - you are the best. My safe card !!!!
Great update ideas .
If space is limited, opt for a bar cart over a kitchen island. I did this, and it really modernized my kitchen for under $100. I was even able to switch out the bar cart's handles for handles that match my kitchen cabinet handles.
I’ve seen this done! Looks ridiculous and silly. Makeshift workaround.
Great video ❤❤❤❤😊
Most people front room is the TV/ living room ,what happens to it if you transform the room in an office ?
She's talking about homes with a formal living room in the front of the house AND a family room in the back. It's known as the room no one hangs out in because it is the nice room with the nice furniture that can't be ruined. You keep your day guests in there cuz it's the only constantly clean room in the house. It dates your house because people don't entertain that way anymore. We have our guests see our mess when we cook in the open to every room kitchen and the kids' toys everywhere in the family room because the hosts want to feel included in the party 😂
If you don't have both, this tip is not for you.
Great ideals
Great ideas!
This was very helpful🙏🤍do you have any recommendations for affordable large and neutral rugs?
Is it practical to paint old aluminum sliding door frames and windows?
Great tips 😊
Great vid. Ty
Thanks 🙏🏼
Hi, Kristen! Can you please share how you are connected to the home at the 6 minute mark? Is this one you were involved with? My mouth dropped when I saw it, as I have a connection to that home. A really close one! I have never known about your account until today so I am a bit freaked out with this uncanny incident! thank you!
Always good ideas! Thank you Kristen 😎🐈⬛🐕🦺
She just copies stuff off of other sites. Not original.
@@FrankGutowski-ls8jt well than, go and watch those channels and don’t look here. I don’t understand.
