      It's not a good idea to paint the brick outside one's home. It prevents it from 'breathing' and shortens its life. Staining them is a better choice.
      Also, you said to paint the mullions on your windows. You may have meant 'muntins'.
      Mullions are vertical shafts located in between windows. These elements offer structural support for the windows. Meanwhile, muntins are found on the window glass itself. They are vertical and horizontal elements that divide a window's glass into a grid.

    I love a house with ALL the rooms: Formal Living and dining, a study, and a combo family room/kitchen, plus a sunroom. I use them on the daily. I also love cream painted cased widows and doorways. My dream house has a staircase similar to your parents' home. I love hardwood floors, built ins and bay windows. I think it goes back to my twenties, when I was a realtor in Boston's Back Bay and Beacon Hill neighborhoods.

    We had our old white PVC windows sprayed black. I wish I could upload a picture. It really made a massive difference and the exterior of the house looks so much more modern. Love black windows! It was surprisingly more affordable than we thought it would be and waaay less than getting new ones! It’s guaranteed for 10 years too. Would highly recommend.

    We did practically all of these in our 1970s house we had. All of your advice is sound especially fixture updates and removing the upper cabinets...that absolutely opened our small kitchen space up. It instantly felt so much larger. And the bathroom curtain rod being up high made a huge difference in our current home. Brings the eyes up.

    Hi there, your videos are full of great info, so handy and practical advice….just wanna say though these ideas dont really work unless u do the whole hog. For example changing light fittings isn’t going to look great if you still have an ugly outdated kitchen. Sprucing up your staircase isn’t gonna transform your home if the walls have ugly paint color and furniture and light fittings are horrid and need redoing too…sort of gotta do everything cos if you do one thing it can often look like popping on eye makeup and faux lashes and having gorgeous eyes but omitting lipstick foundation and walking out the house in tracksuit pants with glamorous eyes….

    OK, so I really really like your idea and suggestion of making your living room possibly your office decorating it or making it the room that you need. I’m basically a single almost 60-year-old woman that lives in a house by herself and sometimes I feel like the living room is too much I don’t need it, so the suggestion that you made and showing some of the pictures I’m thinking wow that’s what I should do is I should flip-flop the small bedroom that I was going to make into an office into my living room with being able to leave a lot of my decor in the living room just moving my couch out of it in the TV out of it into my bedroom. Space, lol I really really like that idea! Thanks, Kristen

    • @lynnbabe678
      @lynnbabe678 Год назад +2

      She's talking about homes with a formal living room in the front of the house AND a family room in the back. It's known as the room no one hangs out in because it is the nice room with the nice furniture that can't be ruined. You keep your day guests in there cuz it's the only constantly clean room in the house. It dates your house because people don't entertain that way anymore. We have our guests see our mess when we cook in the open to every room kitchen and the kids' toys everywhere in the family room because the hosts want to feel included in the party 😂
      If you don't have both, this tip is not for you.

    A friend of ours was moving and gave us his entire living room set, rug included. He has good, clean taste, so we got lucky. Cream white everything. Large rug, matching tables. It was amazing!
    It was so unexpected. But if you want something new, keep an open mind and be open to good stuff coming to you from unexpected sources. You don’t always need to buy brand new things if what you currently have doesn’t suit you. Just be clear about what you want, keep putting it out there and when the opportunity comes - jump on it!

I’m going to use my dining room for my non work, home needs. It’ll be two home office spaces but mentally it’s better for me to have that division. I’m lucky to have a large home, now we’re empty nesters so I may as well use the space more efficiently for myself. Thanks for your advice
