Am so big on lighting and sound like a broken record too! Keep telling my friends that lighting can make or break a home. I never miss your videos since i discovered you🙂 Watching you from Kenya!
It's especially hard not to get cluttered as you get older. I am a born "collector" and always prefer lovely and interesting COHESIVE GROUPS of objects, but I turn 60 next month and have been amassing various collections since my teens. It's really time to start letting go of some the wonderful objects that are starting to overpopulate the visual aspects of my home.
Legit, I rewatched that just to be sure I caught it correctly and it wasn't my mind going where it shouldn't. That said, I can't see the ubiquitous beads as anything else now xD
Another terrific thought provoking video, TY! A personal note.. I work with Home Care and Hospice, visiting people in their home for professional care. Scent, as mentioned at the end of your video can be a real problem for some people! Firstly, allergies/sensitivities, I have left homes with a headache due to scented products and carried it on my clothes the rest of the day. Second, those living in a house get acclimated to a scent and tend to make it stronger over time so they can smell it… and it’s like walking into a wall when a visitor steps in… yuck. Third, many fragrance oils (vs essential oils) have dangerous chemical in them to one’s health. Good old fresh air, or natural citrus can be tolerated much better. Just my opinion!! 🌻
Agree... I love a good scent too especially in hotels and spas but for home, it's a bit more of a concern. I have cats, and I'm worried about what these will do to them too.
Thank you…I have a lot of chemical triggers for asthma…I actually sort of panic when I I walk into houses with scent…if it’s natural I am ok..if it’s spray, scented candles etc I can’t stay…
NEW to your videos, and what captured my attention is your "opinion first then the examples" right after! Everything is aways CLEARLY presented! They are helping me with valuable tweaks to some of my items and home!👌🏾 All w/out going against my likes/style!👍🏾🙌🏾
Amazing tips as always, thanks for sharing! I feel you're so good at actually articulating actionable advice, which is rare in the area of home decor that seems to follow so many vague, intuition-based rules
I love using musical instruments as decor! That cello in the corner looks so beautiful. A violin or sax or trumpet on a stand can look very high class in a room. Instruments are very expensive, but if you shop, you can find one that is not usable any longer but is still a beautiful piece of art.
So true! My dad had a bouzouki hanging on a family room wall. As a super musical kid, I could never understand why I wasn’t supposed to pick it up and play it.
I love your channel! I've learned so much from you, and over the past few weeks have started to incorporate your advice to my home and it looks better already. It's still an ongoing project and I was just so impatient before, wanting to see results immediately and didn't take the time to slowly add to my home that it looked a bit sterile. Now I'm taking my time and really put in the consideration of whether something works for my home or not.
Brilliant. Soon, I will move into a smaller home in Santa Dominica Talao, Italy. 🇮🇹 The interior was a total redo, electrical, plumbing, and floor plan. As I prepare to move, your advice is very helpful. My style is eclectic as I have collected art and memorabilia from a life well lived. I know it will all come together because I have an army of Italian craftsman helping me. However, I greatly appreciate your knowledge in helping me downsize, yet retain what is most memorable. Home design is an evolving process.
What an amazing video. Each of the images are so beautiful and carefully chosen! And of course the whole content and information is priceless. Thank you! Your voice is so calming too
I just found you and wish I could send you a picture of my living room. The layout...omygoodness. The corner fireplace makes it SO hard. Thank you for this great advice. New sub.
I had to rewind and relisten to a certain part... and then double checked the comments section. LOL! I love this video! Great job! Thank you for making these videos! They really helped me created my home!
I’m gonna look for these chord boxes thanks. We have a home theater and wow there are so many pieces and wires it has been hard to find a unit to hide them all. We do have the wires in the wall but the ends that connect to the devices still show and are puddled on floor. My current stand was meant to be temp it is a cool looking stand tho. (Tool bench on wheels from homedepot black rough coat metal with a wood look surface three drawers and industrial wheels) can’t tell it’s a tool piece at all. I even have a glass surface on it for protection. That me tho since they don’t make things like they used to ya know.
Thanks for great video learning so much. I just heard another designer say if I can SEE another room from one room that it should be the same paint color is this true. I just bought an expensive paint can to paint dining area/kitchen which separated by a casement from my Alabaster painted large living room. I have white cabinets so was wanting to break it up with lil neutral color. You can actually also see into another room too that is within my homes color pallet is deep grey/blue
What color temperature do you suggest for the lighting (between warm white vs. soft white) and should the temperature remain consistent for the various lamps / fixtures?
If you want to see good ways to hide cables look to gaming setups specifectly really clean ones as people get creative, for instance, there is a youtuber where on his setup he uses metal pipes as a speaker stand but the way he installed it the cables run through the pipes And into the desk so you cannot see them.
Hi Reynard, nice and clear tips thanks for sharing. Where do you get your inspiration from apart from Pinterest? You integrated some good quality images. Plus any special books on interior designers to recommend? Thank you ✌🏼
Unfortunately, you are correct. AI will take over all the skills we currently use our brains for. We won't have to think, or study, or learn the elements of Design. Design is a skill easily replaced by AI. G*d help us.
I do not need a home to look expensive. I want my home to be filled with love and laughter. A house is just a building. It’s the people and love inside it that makes it a home. Not the materialistic items you place in it.
Haha. That provoked a memory from close on 60 years ago. My school gave out deportment badges and I was pulled forward as an example of how not to win: untidy hair, collar and tie askew, inky fingers, rumpled stockings, bulging pockets etc etc. That’s before I attempted to move: apparently I ran like a chicken rather than glided gracefully into school!
@karenhansen It was an award for seemly and graceful appearance and behaviour! It was the 1960s so those nuns were fighting a losing battle. Yes, I should have been traumatised by the many horrors, but what doesn’t kill you makes you Stronger. 😉😵💫
Good suggestions, though I would not look to a high-end hotel for inspiration because it still looks "hotelish" and a hotel can afford to stay on trend with frequent renovations. I'd rather be less on trend so the look lasts a while. For example, flat black fixtures look good now, but in a few years, they will be dated.
If we happened to have too matchy-matchy furniture pieces, would accessorizing with small items enough to dilute the intensity of the ‘theme’? The challenge is the room is quite large as well.
My biggest tips, get genuine hardwood floors. No LVP. You can find affordable hardwood options. Just wait, look for sales and save up. Same with hardware, use genuine brass or other quality metals. These two things get a lot of wear and buying quality makes a big difference. Oh and big artwork! A gigantic, unique art piece can really make a room shine.
we don't Care About Our interior looking expensive we want it to feel like home and reflect who we are and definitely not to impress peope with fake stuff

It even sounded calming when he referenced "anal beads" at 8:34 lol

I use vinegar/ lemon juice as a space spray, aimed at the ceiling.
Even all natural fragrances can be irritating to the skin and lungs. We weren't made to breathe oil or perfume.
